These guys aren't joking when they say they look out for their neighbors. My dad's house burned down last year, and since he was such good friends with many of them, they offered to rebuild his home, free of charge, and he's not even Amish.
Agreed. I highly recommend people looking up stories of how the Amish have responded to people affected by natural disasters. I'm Christian but not Amish, but they have other denominations beat when it comes to demonstrating compassion and forgiveness.
That’s so true, my aunts house burned down and she has been helping out others so much and is so caring that they gave her some of their land and build a house for them for free. They also gave them some clothes and things to help them get back on track
My grandpa was a farmer and helped many Amish with their farms, buy seeds and other goods. When he passed, three men worked on his casket made of walnut. And they said it was because they appreciated him. They also catered the food for the funeral-just the kindest people.
@@randyjenkins8896 Yeah their culture seems pretty great but why not just use cars and refrigerators? But in the end they believe that those things lead to many of the problems in our societies and they have every right to do what they want with their beliefs. If you truly think that using a tractor will eventually lead to hookup culture then by all means use horse and plow.
@@avlinrbdig5715 The irony is in us knowing that and not caring one bit. It’s like playing dead with a grizzly bear, sure it’s the best way to survive but I’m definitely running. The internet may be the bane of common decency but I’m sure not giving up my phone.
My gramma was Amish. She was born in Indiana in 1888 and died in 1969. She was the kindest, holiest and sweetest person ever. I never heard her say anything bad about anybody, ever. She read her Bible everyday. I still have her big Bible in old German Amish script. It has all of her ancestors listed in front with birth and death dates. I was privileged to know her.
My Grandma was born in Indiana in 1888. She died in 1970. She was not Amish. She was a sweet, kind, very gentle lady. She had many, many friends. Her stepfather was a pastor. She had his huge old Bible with his name embossed on the front cover. I miss her very much, still.
So are you also an Amish or did your grandmother abandon her Amish lifestyle? I guess she abandoned her Amish lifestyle because you are using Internet, something that I don't expect to see from an Amish.
@@commanderiosifstalin4938 She left the church when she married my non-Amish Grandfather. All her life she wore the bonnet and read her Bible everyday. Nicest person I ever met. I never heard her say a bad thing about anyone. She did not drive a car and always took the train when visiting us. Never took an airplane.
@@incog99skd11 So that means she left her Amish community but never abandoned her Amish lifestyle. And yes, I learnt that Amish people never take an airplane nor ever directly drive a car, but they can accept to be passengers of a car if someone else drive the car.
Kindness and respect are the main Amish beliefs. My motorcycle had broken down in the middle of a northern Amish settlement about 50 miles from my home. I got stuck at around 8:30pm with no cell signal and was expecting to put up camp when I see a lantern off in the distance. There was a kind grey haired Amish man wearing a black trenchcoat and glasses asking if I needed help. He took me to his farm where he said he had a neighbor who was a motorcycle mechanic that owed him a favor. I visit Hamish and his family every year for their kindness and respect and have gotten to know their small community of less than 200 people.
that's amazing and must be a really awesome friendship, in some of our rural areas in SA the people are also salt of the earth and will help with whatever is needed without wanting anything back. There is some really good people on this earth. Glad you were helped instead of camping next to the road.
I wish they could take people in for a week or so, just so we can disconnect from our crazy lives and be reminded of what it is to be a kind human being with traditional values!
This is actually groundbreaking documentary making. I've never even heard of someone having this much access to an authentic Amish community to represent them in this way. This should 100% have gone on the main channel.
Look up Peter santenello. He made a whole documentary series about the Amish community. Not to discredit yes theory, but he did a way better job in my opinion. It’s very interesting.
Peter santenellos videos are great. I think the difference is yes theory is going for an experience for themselves, Peter is looking to learn and inform others about the places he visits
This man is to be commended. He opened up his home to two complete strangers and in doing so he didn’t just give them a glimpse inside the daily lives of the Amish community, he gave the entire world a gift without measure. May God give each and every one them special blessings!
Well said! Except God has already given them special blessings - happiness from within, intact marriages and families and no crime. The Amish are actually the richest people in this country.
When I drove a truck, I used to love delivering to Amish communities. They were always super nice, offered food and coffee, and unloaded my truck by hand faster than most forklifts or cranes. Heil Orbán!
You found an incredibly rare Amish family. Most wouldn’t be so open to strangers. They are good people, your host family. I hope you give them an experience in return, if it wouldn’t cause trouble with the church and the community. I was honestly surprised that your visit was so well received. Hopefully, the Amish communities are beginning to become more open.
More open to what though? I don't think u guys have anything they want. And if you're talking about human connections, the amish community in lancaster and Ohio have yearly visits to and from the hasidics of New York. They probably share baby tips 😂. Just kidding, they mostly just talk about farming
Hopefully they don't invite modern day living and culture into their community. It would ruin them within a matter of days. Look how it's working for us worldly people. I got a high respect for the Amish community because they work hard, are humble, stay true to their beliefs and roots and will help each other out when they can. Living off the grid and such...seems like peace to me
Why would they ? I mean no offense to nobody but if 2 strangers knock at my door and say can I stay with you and your family for few days I would say no.
I've lived in this area (Lancaster, PA) my whole life and have seen tourists be super disrespectful of Amish privacy and culture. You two took an excellent and humble approach and genuinely wanted to learn more about their culture. I learned a thing or two myself. Thanks for the wholesome content!
Oh it physically hurts to see them ripping the perfectly good wiring out a house, but they bought it so they can do whatever they want with it. Still hurts though…
Lived in Ephrata for 26 years. Now in berks county area. No one I respect more than the Amish. Everything about them is surrounded with discipline. Many of the businesses I frequent are Amish or Mennonite because I know I am going to receive a fantastic product and service to come with it.
I've lived in Pennsylvania my whole life and am surrounded by Amish people. They are the hardest working people you'll ever meet. They work from sun up to sundown and are some of the best carpenters, roofers, and craftsman ever. And they're always pleasant.
Don't forget the baked goods that you can often find them selling! Coming back to PA after living in LA for 3 years was crazy refreshing for that alone.
@@qrowing Yes I also live in an Amish area in Michigan and there are a few local bakeries run by them and it is some of the best baked goods anywhere ❤️. And very popular with the tourists and hunters that come to the area. Cash or check only but very reasonable prices 👍

@@inactiveuser555 god is everything, from the most minute atom to the vastness of space, how should all of existence ever fit into a single body and why, why limit god?! Jesus indeed was carrying a for earth humans huge portion of that energy called god, but not all of it, thats impossible, neither the human body could house that nor would it make any sense for such a high energy to operate solely from the very very limited 3rd dimension. Jesus perhaps was the most sacred being in history carrying the most amount of love any human has ever done but believing he solely would be god is just not right. He doesnt want to prayed at, his mission was merely to spread love and to awaken real love within every human, nothing more.
@Smokey Mcb neither is he the only one nor is anyone only saved by him he can help and assist but there is nothing exklusive about him, there are billions of light beings, so called angels which are all just as powerful and just as loving and just as helpful. Its just a juvenile idea of mankind that only one person can do things, only one person is sacred, only one person can save you, only one person is divine, believing this will lead to a path of darkness, just as christianity has demonstrated for hundreds of years by killiing MILLIONS of innocent people. Jesus himself said that you "will recognize them by their fruits". Yea well look at the fruits christanity for the majority of people, even today a single ring of the pope could feed thousands of people, not to forget that the vatican is one of the richest countries of earth and they do nothing to make this planet and society a better place. Its still like in the middleage they pretend to be good, but minors are still raped by some of their members, the robbed wealth is still not returned, ... and so on. Why you think jesus would say anything different today then he did 2000 years ago, "nothing but man made religions/prayers/laws" and this is also true for christianity it has been established after jesus was dead for a long time, he never wanted that people pray at him, he never wanted that millions are tortured and killed in his name.... No Lightbeing ever wanted that... killing and torture is never in tune with god. May the light of the existence enlighten your spirit.
@Smokey Mcb he never said that, its a completly made up believe by humans who never had any contact to jesus repeating lies does not make them true, this is a way how the dark side operates by the way, but believe what ever you want, pray to god or jesus and ask them if that guy on youtube is perhaps right or if he isnt, they will answer as usal, but give it time, and keep in mind when they answer you will feel it in your heart and soul and not as a thought in your rational head 💙

The Amish are very kind and sweet people, here is central Illinois we have a large Amish community in the town of Auther and me and my family have been buying milk and eggs from them for years now. They are some of the nicest people I have ever met in my life.
I had the privilege of having dinner with an Amish family back in college. They definitely aren't as removed from the world as people think they are. The couple I visited had electricity in their home, their buggies used blinkers (because they learned it helped to reduce accidents with cars), and they had sailed all over the world. Every family is different and every person has their own rules they follow and others they are more flexible on, but the same can be said for all religions. The experience gave me such a different perspective. I love that Yes Theory made this.
lol no they don’t, I can guarantee you didn’t eat with an Amish couple but rather ate with a shunned Amish family as they “don’t all have different rules” because that’s…..literally the dumbest Amish comment I’ve ever heard as that’s why they are Amish because they follow the communities guidelines and laws. Lmao I live in the most densely populated Amish area in the continental United States and interact with them on a daily basis and your comment couldn’t be anymore profoundly ignorant. Lol
Ps. The Amish do not have electricity in their homes, they are allowed to use generators and may of had standalone lighting (which they only use for English visitors and special occasions) but they will not and cannot be connect to the power grid in accordance with their religious beliefs.
Lived in Indiana 12 years. I have so much love for the Amish. I’m envious of their lifestyle. They grow & eat healthy food, build their own homes & furniture. They work so hard and just enjoy the earth as they should.
Indiana born & raised & still living here. You're so right. I have Amish neighbors & they are the 1st to offer a hand in need. The most kind, caring, loving neighbors I've ever had.
@@jamesbowring9528 ok and? Why do you all assume it's hip and progressive to be slaves to the capitalist system or always have the same roles as men instead of living in a community where everyone has their own roles in maintaining it. In Amish communities, the men do the manual labour while women do the maintenance, nothig wrong with that
Amish have their own insurance policy, each household in their community gives a certain percent of their income to a insurance cash pool. If someone has an emergency they are given what they need. They are a very friendly community. Just imagine how nice a world it would be if everyone was amish/ Mennonite, or just acted the same. You just had a tree fall on your car and your neighbor immediately offers to help. Thanks for the likes!!
That's how Insurance is actually supposed to work. Where Insurance companies for things like Cars and Health just take everyone's money, and they try as hard as possible to cheat you out care you need when you need the insurance. That's not even insurance, that's fraud.
This video is probably the best one and most informative video I’ve seen in a long, long time. This video just screams the fact that it was made in good faith, to connect people, and to get a glance into something that might not be well represented. We need more like this.
My dad was born and raised here! I saw my grandparent's old house in this video. I grew up in Tokyo, Japan and they could not be more different worlds. Thank you for showing the Amish in a positive way.
That’s an interesting path your Dad took. I wouldn’t imagine finding an ex-Amish person raising a family in Tokyo. But I guess life can lead us anywhere. There’s not many non-Japanese people raising a family in Japan and there’s not many Amish people so it’s interesting that one person got to experience both. But I guess he’s just a normal person who got an interest in Japan or something and just ended up moving there. That’s pretty cool.
idk, tokyo is quite similar. it's a mix of old meets new. walking through tokyo u might see glitzy lights everywhere and a traditional geisha shuffling along.
@@minigiant8998 have you actually been to Tokyo? You don’t just see geisha walking around. You only really see that in Kyoto or in small historical areas. And like everywhere is a mix of old meets new. Tokyo is actually quite modern. Except for a random temple, nothing is really older than 100 years old.
I actually worked for an Amish company called J&J Silo for 3 years, right outside Intercourse, Pa and it was a good experience. There are different kinds of Amish communities, there are these kinds which are much more forgiving and just choose to live without technology. Then there are the hardcore technology is a sin against God kind of Amish. They forbid all types of technology and shun those who use it.
I recently bought a dog from a young Amish family, and they were so nice and kind and wholesome, and I found myself suddenly wanting to know more about them, and their culture, so I'm glad I stumbled upon your video, it answered some of my questions.
Elam and his family represent everything a Christian should be. He is truly free in mind, body, and spirit. May God bless that family until the end of time.

@@ethrboy im also holding to a statement that god was actually made up answer and also that if there was no religion we'd be like 400 years ahead in terms of technology and I am looking for answer, "why?"
@Daan Sonneveld Hey, thank you for your answer and effort you put in it! But I will have another one. Fact you stated that you believe in God is fine actually it is more of a perspective or phylosophical view but why Christianity? In my eyes Church is rather an institution rather than actual representation of heaven. So can I please go deeper into your understanding?
I remember going to an Amish farmers market and asking if they had a restroom expecting some sort of outhouse since they sell produce to a lot of people regularly. But this little girl led me into their house instead and just left me there. It was really odd for me but it was a very kind and trusting gesture. I would never hesitate to interact with the Amish.

Oneday in church as a boy, i remember hearing about how, after an Amish school massacre, the families of the victims actually forgave the shooter and did all the funeral arrangements because that was "practising true Christian love". That was the first time most of us even heard of the Amish. After that ive seen them depicted in American movies and shows, like Banshee. Thanku for this video. My dad an i watched this together and at the lunch table my family recounted the story we heard in church all those years ago. Thankyou and immense love to the Amish, all the way from a small town in Sri Lanka ❤
Yes that was the West Nickel Mines shooting back in 2006. The shooter committed suicide, and members of the Amish community actually went and offered comfort to his family members. They gained an enormous amount of respect for their actions during those terrible times
Amish perception in life is what I admire, simple, don’t hold grudges, help someone in need and just be happy. Amazing that you have found a good Amish family who gave you that unforgettable experience in life.
Crazy how "breaking Amish" was all about their family holding grudges for leaving their religion and disowning their children. wonder where this family crosses the line
I appreciated that you were respectful to the family, didn't react like their ways were weird. You look like you enjoyed yourselves, and I believed you when you said you wanted to return. Great job, guys.
Some of the sweetest folks i've met in my life were the amish living down in Indiana, and the ones way up here in super northern NY. They'd help you any way they can if you're genuine, and are just honest, lovely accepting people

Back in the 1970's an Amish couple bought the house my grandfather grew up in, so my mom decided to get to know the family on a personal level. She'd regularly write letters to the woman of the house and on occasions we'd personally visit them in Southeast Minnesota. They must have been ultra-conservative because their house was pretty primitive, lacking anything that resembled a "modern" comfort. Everything looked as it did back in the 1800's. Before visiting, I was instructed by my mom to choose clothes that weren't too colorful. She'd always bring the kids (at lest 8 of them) candy to enjoy as a gesture of a gracious guest. I recall once being asked to accompany the girls (who were the oldest of the kids) to bring in the cows from the pasture, but I stepped in a muddy area, so my mom had me clean off my shoes at their water pump while the girls were snickering at my misfortune. We lived in the suburbs of Minneapolis and we once hosted the mother and father at our house because the father needed his remaining teeth pulled so that he could get dentures. They asked my parents to have a basin of water in the guest room so that they could avoid using the sink. It's funny though, because they relied on my parents to drive them and they took advantage of modern dental technology. Regardless, they were very nice people and I'm glad to have had such a unique perspective of such a reclusive people.
It's as if we live in an additive world, where we crave more and more and are never satiated, whilst the Amish are in a subtractive world, requiring only the minimum of things to foster happiness and well-being
ye it really depends on the group for how much technology they use. Like the Amish I've talked to didn't allow cell phones like seen here but they did allow running water and lights on bikes and their wagons for safety.
Coming into these communities with such open arms and genuine curiosity really allows you to make strong, meaningful connections with the people that you meet along the way
I live in Lancaster PA. The Amish you saw are new age Amish. They have mostly the same values but as you experienced, they also use some technology. Old age Amish are the ones who do not use any technology. These are the type of Amish people consider “cult” like. Yes dealing with the Amish horse and buggies can be annoying, but I would never disrespect the Amish because their culture is genuine and they’re super nice people trying to live a simple meaningful life.

@Smokey Mcb he never said that, its a completly made up believe by humans who never had any contact to jesus

@@anaya6029 just family members!
The world works in mysterious ways. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful comment 🙏
idk, tokyo is quite similar. it's a mix of old meets new. walking through tokyo u might see glitzy lights everywhere and a traditional geisha shuffling along.

I worked with Amish guys 90% of the time, on different farms fixing and installing farm equipment, and you do learn alot about them, pretty much exactly like you guys did. They're very humble people, who don't hold grudges and work hard and play hard. I worked 50-70 hour weeks every week and learned so much, and oddly enough I've worked on the farm you guys stayed at lol. Small world!
I wonder if they have to pay land tax to the US government?
@@ariesred777 Yes they pay taxes for land they own, but they don't pay into social security or anything like that, so for taxes they usually owe more than the average person

it’s great to see more accurate representation and an inside look into the amish community ! i grew up in lancaster PA so i’ve always been surrounded by the amish. i’ve never had a bad encounter with anyone in the community and i’m glad you guys got to show how cool it is !

Is there a lot of wood work and soap molds I. The shops near you Sir ?

Indeed. I’m in Amish country in SE KY and they are the sweetest! I mentioned wanting a comfrey plant and this lady dug me up one from her own garden 🥰
They didn't come from our society. They came from their own. Is that what you meant?

The pain of leaving this loving family must of been hard, they looked so kind and full of positivity.
JESUS CHRIST is LORD; He alone is God. turn away from your sins, seek the LORD God with all your heart and your soul and believe in the Gospel: for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son [to die a horrible death of crucifixion so that, if saved, His death would be the Atoning Sacrifice necessary for our salvation.]

Most people leave Amish living because of mistreatment and polygamy but it’s still a beauty of cult we
@@minecraftchickable its not a cult, and polygamy is normal in many parts of the world. Plus, mistreatment happens everywhere... you just dont see "I left society because I lost my job, got taxed to shit, became homeless and then unemployable, and then became a drug addict to cope with it" or "I came back from the middle-east after serving my country, got zero benefits from the government and couldnt cope with my PTSD, turned to alcoholism, lost my job and family, became homelss, then left society" videos on youtube, because those things are a normal part of 'our' lives as 'modern people', you cant just "leave" when bad things happen to you unlike what some amish folk do when they fall on rough times.
The Amish are constantly misunderstood. They are honestly some of the most honest and kind people.
There are different kinds of Amish communities, there are these kinds which are much more forgiving and just choose to live without technology. Then there are the hardcore technology is a sin against God kind of Amish. They forbid all types of technology and shun those who use it.

Elam and his family represent everything a Christian should be. He is truly free in mind, body, and spirit. May God bless that family until the end of time.

Hello, not like I am denying anything but I just want to know, what makes you believe in God I simply don't see a point and I think there is way more proof that any God doesn't exist rather than he does

They was effing
they probably swinging
Coming into these communities with such open arms and genuine curiosity really allows you to make strong, meaningful connections with the people that you meet along the way
I live in Lancaster PA. The Amish you saw are new age Amish. They have mostly the same values but as you experienced, they also use some technology. Old age Amish are the ones who do not use any technology. These are the type of Amish people consider “cult” like. Yes dealing with the Amish horse and buggies can be annoying, but I would never disrespect the Amish because their culture is genuine and they’re super nice people trying to live a simple meaningful life.
You two young men are incredible. God bless you. Keep making awesome stuff from your hearts and ALWAYS stay different.
