Man I've learned so much from watching your videos. I can't pick this one at full speed unless I use legato but I'll get there. But your videos are perfect for the intermediate player and up. Other tutorials are too slow paced and they take forever to get through (If it takes 5 minutes to learn 5 notes, you shouldn't be trying to play Slipknot anyway). But yours are straight to the point and easy to follow. And your intro covers are flawlessly played. Also, you seem like the nicest person ever.
Because it's above your skill level that make Chris a Chad? Hopefully by now you've either gotten to the point through practice to play this or just given up on guitar altogether. I honestly don't care which 😂😂
It's such a mean solo, and this video is still paying for itself almost a decade later. Been breaking it down for the past week or so. The first 48 notes (2 bars) are done in about 6 seconds. I've hit a speed of maybe 7-9 seconds, but am finding it harder to break the 6 second mark. Much easier to play when I'm not looking though. This video was done so well, as are all of your videos. TY so much for this.
hey chris, i love how you engage with your viewers, really makes this a even better channel, anyways thanks man, HUGE slipknot fan (as you can tell by my picture) absolutely gonna try to learn this!
...So i'm 14, and i'm learning this solo (Yeah, sounds crazy, i know). But these scales have helped me so much, they're good exercises if anyone wants to shred. Either way, Thank you for this lesson! Cheers from Argentina!
You’re literally mental if you think my fingers move that fast, mayyyybe the middle break for Jim Root, but not Mick’s opening arpeggio or Jim’s closing arpeggio
Hello Chris! I'm a huge fan of your work and i really appreciate it! Your tutorials have helped me a lot. And I wonder if you could please make a tutorial on how to play the solo of 'In My Darkest Hour' by Megadeth. If you do, i'd be really grateful!
biggest trouble for me in a lot of songs is playing all 3 notes on the scale going from 3rd to 2nd string in a case where the all the notes go up one fret like at 3:42 (I didn't explain very well, I know) but does anyone have any tips?
Hey Chris thanks so much for everything you've done. you've made me a way better guitar player just by watching your videos. Do you think you could maybe do some of Slash's new stuff? Preferably "Beneath The Savage Sun" of the World on Fire record. also i tried to do what you did with audacity (slowing the song down and learning by ear) but the quality gets so bad when i slow it down i can't quite hear what i'm trying to learn if you had any tips it would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Chris, I've been a big fan of your videos. I just have one request. Is there anyway you could send the output of your amp directly to the mix? That way all the "room" gets out of the way. Thanks.
Don't wanna imply that you sound bad. Your tone is one of the best on the internet. Just saying that you'd be doing it a hell lot of justice by running it through a mixer or audio interface directly into your PC/Mac. So you'd have one channel for your voice microphone and one for your amp/signal chain output. Anyway carry on the great work you're doing. Peace..
Great job Chris, this is amazing, actually all of your lessons are outstanding, I just want to appreciate your hard work. But I know your extremely busy right now, but coul you do a lesson on demon(s) by darkest hour?
For the first part of the solo, is there a certain technique I need to work on to play fast enough, or is it a matter of practicing for ages to get fast.
I'm very thankfully to have a teacher like u sir Chris... Its been eight years I started playing guitar... I know most of the techniques, I even play metal songs.. BT when it comes about scales or composing own solo I'm at zero..the on guitar becomes as unknown for me... So what would you suggest for me
Chris, please, can you tell how many years of practice did you have? and what kind of practice? slow playing? what exercises did you use? how many hours a day, how many days per week? i play nearly a year, and it was hard, for example, to learn first part of Symphony of destruction i spent on it last few days, so i can't understand or esteem am i playing good or not, maybe i need more practice? in my country it is hard to find a good teacher or educated listener, so i ask you. thanks for attention
I know, it's boring, but you have to play ever note of that shred section slowly, very slowly. Once you can play it eye closed, you start speeding up, until you reach the song speed! PS: It's my second guitar playing year, i'm a beginner, but with that method i can play every solo I want ;)
Yes . Some people are comfortable with lagato while some are with alternate picking like me. Cole rolland chose lagato . Suit your self , i mostly prefer alt picking or u can try mixing them up like i did
My guitar teacher says I shouldn't try to play fast because I'll end up hurting myself. When will I be able to do this solo that fast? I've been playing for four years.
4 years is a bit early, but not impossible. i know you hear this all the time but practice slowly and steadily increase the tempo with a metronome. check out John petruccis rock discipline dvd and excersises, thats what helped me a lot, wouldnt be where i am now without him
I've been playing for 4 years. The first fast shreddy solo was the solo in Alone by B4MV. It took a long time to get down, but now people walk by my room and say I shred. Your guitar instructor is an ass hat. I'd recommend finding a shreddy solo that is higher up on the fretboard so that you only have to use ring middle pinky, or at least not stretch your hand out.
Daniel Chachanashvili Yeah, I have no idea how to play with a metronome. Most teachers online only teach how to play scales (including my own teacher) and others do extremely basic stuff. They never teach solos with a metronome.
Hey Chris would mind doing a lesson on ``World on Fire`` by Slash? Or if you wanna up the ante do ``Beneath the Savage Sun`` by Slash? If so thank you so much.
I've played piano for 7 years (I play heavy metal stuff) and now I play guitar for 8 months now. I've tried this solo today, it seems I can play the first section well and fast. I was like LOL. but somethimes is my alternete picking not synchronised with my fingers on the fredboard, can somebody give me some tips
using a metronome is the best way to build speed for shred-y scale-y type stuff. start the metronome off slow and play at that speed until you can play it very well and comfortably. then turn the metronome up 5-10 bpms. repeat. repeat. repeat until you are a legendary guitarist that every young player aspires to!

You made a lot of viewers happy with your comment, Sir
life saver
yea i lost you at 6th fret of the 5th string.... directions unclear i broke my violin
LMAOOOOO
bruv
This guy 😭
🤣🤣
This comment made me laugh out loud hahahaha! 😂
can't fathom WHY you are NOT a household name...any band would be grateful for your talent!
Technically, the whole thing is two solo's: first half is Mick Thompson's then the second half is Jim Root's
Christopher Hargreaves I hope you can deal with the tidal wave of thumbs up to follow that gem.
I'm just saying is all. Mainly because, while I appreciate Thompson's solo, I just think Jim Root's effort blows it out the water on this song.

Yes they split it

He also gives tough solo tutorials which many can't afford teaching
The guy is acting like he's teaching Smoke on Water. Absolute chad
Or Tyrone

This is a good shredding exercise
micks tone - gain 10!! Treble 8 mid 4 bass 10. lol that's what I use
I cant wait until I'm actually fast enough to play this awesome solo!
Did you make it?
Did you make it?
Did you make it?
did you make it?
Did you play it??
After i learn many wrong version of this solo, finally i find a good version. Thank you so much!!
The amount of times I had to play it back!!!
Well yeah I can't move my fingers that fast
if you play it slow, and slowly pick up speed you should be gine :)
Kristian Harris Totally. It's pretty simple ideas played stupidly fast!
Chris Zoupa Congrats for your engagement :)
+let's lmao
i always use lots of treble
hey chris, i love how you engage with your viewers, really makes this a even better channel, anyways thanks man, HUGE slipknot fan (as you can tell by my picture) absolutely gonna try to learn this!
Thanks so much for this (even though it was 6 years ago)! Have been building up speed this week and pretty much there now. Great solo!
10:27 is jim roots part for anyone trying to do that
Congrats on your engagement! Great lesson as always :)
I have learnt this... Now build up speed
Learnt
Learnt
congrats on the engagement man !
finally ,someone who doesn't butcher that solo !! good job man :D
This is the only right tutorial, thanks man, you are amazing
...So i'm 14, and i'm learning this solo (Yeah, sounds crazy, i know). But these scales have helped me so much, they're good exercises if anyone wants to shred. Either way, Thank you for this lesson! Cheers from Argentina!
nobody cares lmao
Watch'o nobody asked you asshole
I'm 14 and learning it, doesn't sound THAT crazy lol
Chris! You’re not only a good teacher, a killer player also!
To sum up. I just need to start, for istance from twice slower tempo and increase the speed gradually in order to play this solo in normal tempo?
congrats on the engagement man!!! sorry if im late but yeah i mean it bro.. !!!! :D
You’re literally mental if you think my fingers move that fast, mayyyybe the middle break for Jim Root, but not Mick’s opening arpeggio or Jim’s closing arpeggio
Not arpeggios, just scales, very easy to play quickly once you get the patterns down and muscle memoried
Hahaha, not every fast shred is arpeggio. This is just alternate picking.
Congrats on your engagement! Hope you don't stop doing this:D Coming to the matter, how do we play it this fast? Damn.
Simply... Outstanding, thank you! Also, Disturbed The Night solo, would be awesome to have happen.
Thank you Chris. This sounds just about perfect!
Man,thank you so much! Great lesson)
Hey could u show us how to play sulfur by slipknot the solo looks very wacky
Congratulations Chris!!!
The one that kills the least by slipknot plz
Lol I’m so late to this vid but it’s the best cover and lesson I’ve seen

damn how does your right hand stay so relaxed?
Minimize wrist movements as much as possible. The calmer, the faster.

Hi Chris, big fan of your work dude \m/. Do you think you could do a lesson for the solo in Thoughts Without Words by Shadows Fall?
biggest trouble for me in a lot of songs is playing all 3 notes on the scale going from 3rd to 2nd string in a case where the all the notes go up one fret like at 3:42 (I didn't explain very well, I know) but does anyone have any tips?
I stopped around 2:30 and said to myself “why doesn’t this sound right” skipped back to the intro at 0:20 and said “oh”
what ?
😂😂😂😂😂
How many steps down is drop a
I believe it's 7 half steps, could be wrong
Its B standard and the 6 string is tuned down a whole step to a A
Can't wait till u upload your new song Chris. I bet its killer.
Hey Chris thanks so much for everything you've done. you've made me a way better guitar player just by watching your videos.

Email me at learnthatsolo@gmail.com and I'll hook you up
Congrats on the engagement, man. ...And, uh... *ahem*, *whispers* can you do Am I Evil by Diamond Head?
Damn! drop a!!! Do you play this on the neck pick up?
Yep. It's the best way to get the cleanest shred.
Chris Zoupa Awesome thanks! Congrats on your engagement btw!! I can't wait to buy your new album!!!
Hi Chris, I've been a big fan of your videos. I just have one request. Is there anyway you could send the output of your amp directly to the mix? That way all the "room" gets out of the way. Thanks.
Dude I've got a contender and sound has been reduced but I think I need to just get some sound boards. Doing the best I can ATM. :(

practice with a metronome
+Grizz Tune's I'll try it thanks, I have gotten to about 90bpm since I posted that comment but i see a metronome helping a lot
i just learned it yesterday iv been doing it on 195 bpm helps alot
+Grizz Tune's how long have u been playing, I've been playing (properly) for just over 4 years
1 year
nice video, you play it so perfect
Hey good lesson you've earned a sub
Tremendo video 😎🤙 thanks

It would be great if you do the solo for "don't tread on me" by metallica
Thanks for the lesson!!

Hey Chris, again, I want to request the solo from Burden by Opeth. You are the best, keep it up and congrats.
Very good tutorial!
I did it! I’ve been playing for one year and I did it.
I know this is an old video but that is one sexy guitar
Hey Chris, any chance of the intro solo to The Trend by Annihilator?
Thx Chris
Nice tutorial
Awesome video. Thank you! :D

Can you do a lesson for alexander the great by iron madian there are no lessons for that song on youtube and I relly want to know how to play it
great video!
Awesome video as always man! thanks for the lesson. Can you do next the solo of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath ??
I can't initiate the solo, I mean the starting shredding part, everytime I miss the beat or something. can you please tell me what to do
I know, it's boring, but you have to play ever note of that shred section slowly, very slowly. Once you can play it eye closed, you start speeding up, until you reach the song speed!
PS: It's my second guitar playing year, i'm a beginner, but with that method i can play every solo I want ;)
Please do a lesson of Burden by Opeth. love your lessons
Wish me luck... 2020 yo.
Done it yet??
awesome! good job:)
Is he picking every single note at the beginning shred part?
Yes . Some people are comfortable with lagato while some are with alternate picking like me. Cole rolland chose lagato . Suit your self , i mostly prefer alt picking or u can try mixing them up like i did
Holy shit....he's using his fingernail.
How do your thing that makes the string tone
what strings size do you use for drop A mate?
My guitar teacher says I shouldn't try to play fast because I'll end up hurting myself.
When will I be able to do this solo that fast?
I've been playing for four years.
4 years! That's enough. Don't limit yourself. If your guitar teacher doesn't shred they're sussing out of teaching you hard stuff!
Chris Zoupa i've been trying to play that fast for years but i haven't been able to :(

What scale is that?
any tips on tuning that ridiculously low? what size strings should i use
Use .12 gauge strings mate
Might I suggest 11-54 strings
Something id sugest is to either play it in standard or drop the top string of a 7 string down to a, this tuning is ridiculous and unneeded
I just misspelled suggest lol
Nice lesson! (I was the 666th like! x-x)
OMFG OMFG YES! Thank You XD :D :) Chris rules like a beast that rules on a beastly day XD
Beautiful PRS. What model is it?
Hey Chris would mind doing a lesson on ``World on Fire`` by Slash? Or if you wanna up the ante do ``Beneath the Savage Sun`` by Slash? If so thank you so much.
5:25 don't mind me, just saving my spot
What model of PRS is that?
P.S. Amazing video!!!
A sevenstring is so useful for this :D.
I've played piano for 7 years (I play heavy metal stuff) and now I play guitar for 8 months now. I've tried this solo today, it seems I can play the first section well and fast. What are your settings on your amp?
Can you teach the solo to Not Ready to Die please

You have the same prs se clint lowery as me!
Bridges will burn - Rise to remain!
I kinda confusing if there any palm muting during the first section. Those scale runs. The CD sounds like muted.
Could you please do a lesson for angry again by megadeth? There are no lessons for it on UA-cam
I haven't forgotten you man. I think I might start work on that when I get a chance!
Please please do "Eight of Swords" by Huntress
