As always, Tom does the best review out there of this car. Knowledgeable of the product itself and insightful of what the actual customer of this car would be concerned with, such as the point about the trunk hinges. I really like how the shots of the car moving on roads dominate the video. I love this car and to be honest I'm warming to its high price- if it was $59,900 it'd be flying out the door of dealers. GM isn't GM if it doesn't botch something on its best cars.
I sat in a XTS at a dealership and fooled around with the touch interface. I guess it's just me being a younger person (22) and I didn't find a problem with the response of the touch. I guess it's a different story while driving, but it's nothing steering wheel buttons can't handle (as far as the radio goes).
The amount of time I look *at* my car? Single-digit minutes per day. The amount of time I look *out* of my car? Orders of magnitude more. High beltline? Tall hood and dash? Slit windows? No thanks.
Hi Tom! I'm looking to buy myself a new car. What website did you use to buy your ELR? I remember you bought it from a far away dealer because they gave you a great deal. I cant seem to find the video where you mentioned all this info. Thanks for all your great reviews!
+bigwillchill It was at the end of the new Volt piece. All I did was go to cars.com. I found six ELRs equipped EXACTLY the way I wanted them and sent out a form letter asking for their lowest price. I ended up going with the second lowest price ($44,500 before tax credits) because the WI location was closer than NY so transportation costs were lower and it was physically easier on the car. I also liked the HOLZ dealership, they were very straightforward. FYI, I had very good luck with www.centriccarriers.com. Ask for Jonathan. Does that help? Best of luck. I have still to put the first tank of gas in my car.
That's funny! Especially since its the Tesla that ignites and burns to a crisp if road debris pierces the belly pan. GMs are more likely to have wheels fall off or something stupid.
Most people got them for under 60K. I bought a brand new one for about 35K after federal tax credits, There's a lot more than leather and a different body going on with ELR. Also, there were 2,800 made.
Just thought I would contribute to say that I find this car hideous looking. Looks like a normal car that got stepped on, then drawn by someone who doesn't know how to make a curve. Boxy cars were all the rage.. in the 70s.
Boy are you gonna hate the way 90% of the cars look in the next few years. Every carmaker is raking back the windshields and sloping the roof into the trunk. They figure everyone who needs space is buying a crossover anyway.
J Segal I disagree. Cars aren't all going to look this ugly. Most cars aren't boxy and fugly. I follow the auto industry very closely, and Cadillac is the only brand that is putting out cars like this.
It definitely has pronounced creases, I'll grant ya that. That's Cadillac's aesthetic, and it actually saved the company from going under. But ugly is in the eye of the beholder, and there are other cars you can surely buy and enjoy. Or were you so desperate for this car that you need Cadillac to entirely restyle it to suit you? Press Release:" We've Let Ol' Kev Down on Styling," GM Execs Lament.

Tom, you never let me down
Lol at the end
I'll get one 2019
1979irock you get one?
2020!
@Driven Car when braking with the paddles do the brake lights comes on? I test drove an ELR and I loved it.
PS noticed the Bolt has those paddles too.
Tom, was that driver of that Mercedes about ready to knock out your camera, "Evil Twin"?
Now you understand why I fired him.

Haha, Tom. Nice blooper.

Wow GM need a whole new value-proposition team. I mean seriously, what value does this car bring over other hybrid/electric vehicle out there?
$76k is stupid expensive for a less useful Chevy volt in a tux
Don't trust GM to build something like this without it exploding
That's funny! Especially since its the Tesla that ignites and burns to a crisp if road debris pierces the belly pan. GMs are more likely to have wheels fall off or something stupid.
When your camera costs more than that Merc that almost hit it!
wtf
ELR… EL Dorado?
Electric Long Range actually
If it only had some guts in the power dept.
A gasoline only powered version of this model would be nice.
Why reject instant torque of electric - 295 ft*lbs right off the line
Their will probably be recalls galore that might kill u in the future as usual with gm
so that's how first world look. shooting a review with a $1000 camera of a $80K car when a $70K Mercedes almost take down the camera
So... you pay $82,000! For a Chevy volt that's less practical, has 2 less doors, a body kit and some leather. No wonder they only built 260.

No. There's a few on eBay for $28,000 and less. That's a $60,000 price drop.
Why buy this over a tesla? This is wayyyy overpriced
Considering it can be had in the $20,000 dollar range. Not anymore.
For those that don't want to mess around with the supercharger on trips
Beautiful car, awful colour interior.
