  • The Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit is a full-size luxury car produced by Rolls-Royce Motors, in Crewe, England, from 1980 to 1997. It was the first model in the SZ series. The Silver Spur is a long-wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit, produced from 1980 to 2000. It was the first car to feature a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy: the spring-loaded mascot sank into the radiator shell if dislodged from its position.
The Silver Spirit was introduced by Rolls-Royce in 1980 as the first of a new generation of company models. It formed the basis for the Flying Spur, Silver Dawn, Touring Limousine, Park Ward, and Bentley Mulsanne/Eight series. The Spirit/Spur carried over the basic design of the Silver Shadow, its 6.75 L L410 V8 engine and GM-sourced THM400 3-speed automatic gearbox, and unitary bodywork manufactured at Pressed Steel, which followed the styling of the #w1rrp #bentley #bentleyreview #rollsroyce #podcast #bdc #austin #batur #bently Pininfarina designed Camargue.
The Spur/Spirit continued the Silver Shadow's emphasis on ride quality by utilising its hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension, modified with Girling automatic hydraulic ride height control system and gas-charged shock absorbers. Sealed beam headlamps were fitted in the United States due to longstanding regulations, while European laws allowed for the fitment of more modern composite units.

Splendid, keep them coming, a very good idea for such a format. I love your channel.

This video is a welcome reprieve from what we mostly here about in the US. Buy a low mileage car that was parked indoors and never driven. But as this video states so wisely those cars could be more of a nightmare than one that was actually used. I want to buy one of these older RR or Bentley's but i'm so scared that i will have a catastrophic repair bill after purchase. I'm not rich so if i buy a car for $15,000 to $20,000 and have to invest another $15,000 in repairs i won't be happy.

I have heard it said that you should have $5000 set aside each year on maintenance if you buy one. And if you have to question the fuel cost, don't even consider buying one. But I hear from people that once all the repairs are ironed out, they cost very little in repairs from then on, SO LONG AS you do at least 25 miles every 2 weeks in it.

@@OffGridInvestor Your statement seems correct. I have heard similar comments. You DEFINITELY have to drive it atleast once a week minimum for 45 minutes on open roads.

I would add to that, you need a good local (ish) specialist. They might cost more per hour but can fix things properly and in a much shorter time. The estimates are $4k per year for Silver Shadows (SY cars) and $2k per year for Silver Spirits (any SZ cars). Plan on owning the car for 10 years, then you'll buy a good one and the money spent on it will be a good investment rather than a waste. Spending money on a car also helps when selling it! Thanks

Thank you for creating this series and please try to look at it through the eyes of people that are NEW to the brand. People want to buy these cars because they finally have become somewhat attainable but we don't know very much about what to look for or how to approach the purchase of a good car. This is a great start video to the series.

👍 I just wished that you could have covered this subject before much earlier than this video. Because this is exactly what I use to look for when buying a second -hand Rolls_Royce or Bentley vehicle. Always the lowest mileage excaple I could find. What a huge mistake that was !⚠..

INTERESTING. I will keep that in mind. I don't think they're a "planned obsolescence due to mileage" type car like fords are. Coz they're built to be QUALITY and I have heard before that they're not a car that should be just sitting there.
