Iirc, when a unit attacks, it rolls 1d(basic damage) then subtracts the enemy armor value. If it has piercing damage, it adds that result in without subtracting armor. Many melee units in War1 have no piercing damage, this is why they can 'miss'; they rolled below the enemy's armor value on their basic damage and it got reduced to zero. This is part of why all units in War2 have piercing damage, and why archers are so dangerous; piercing damage is guaranteed to take.
Ah didnt know that but it makes sense! Still annoying as heck, Id say you should always do at the very minimum one damage. The ai rng always seems favoured too even though it probably isnt haha
Six. Teen. Catapults. I would expect this to just be a command fail, one of the catapults got blocked when being sent to attack and thus created a bottleneck as the game keeps trying to send that one catapult without success. That said, these usually get fixed when you attack and trigger the afk unit, which would have caused all the catapults to charge your base. It looks like whatever happened caused a permanent stall. Not sure if that made things easier or harder though, as constant catapult attacks during demon dances would be miserable.
I often think about that, would i have rathered catapult attacks while demon dancing? Not sure but i couldnt think of any other way to break all those doom machines haha dirty campers!
As someone who has played warcraft his whole life I am really enjoying your content on this. Also, as a current member of the RCAF thank you for your service.
The origin of the word Footman isn't really all that complicated. It's a man. On foot. As opposed to a man on a Horse. Something we also know as Horseman. I know, it's mind-blowing. Man-at-arms is specific to the High Medieval and Renaissance era and actually refers to a type of Cavalry soldier. As in Horsemen. I hope the irony isn't lost on you. :p
Had to do it twice because evidently the michigan band has copyright on the specific version of the song i used the first time haha so had to redo the explosion sounds to match the deaths haha
Perks of being newly unemployed! haha This should hopefully give me more time and energy to do more youtubin. I am trying to stream a few more times a week as well before school starts :)
Thanks to a quirk of my native langue my brain goes to calling them "Conscripts" (from the word "Strelet" meaning to be summoned out of civilian life and placed into a combat role) but I don't know enough about how the Human faction in Warcraft source their military to know if this is accurate. Alternative English words might be "Partisans", "Zealots", "Contractors", "Mercenaries" depending on the motivation. Still, congratulations on your discharge and thanks for your work for the alliance.
Also, Militia. In my language, the English Militia translates to Domobrana, which is exactly what you are describing. It's probably archaic Slavic for a combination of the modern Czech Dům and Obrana (meaning House and Defense respectively). Or something like that. :>
@@Templayer That would also sound like a good option to, especially as the unit called militia doesn't come about until Warcraft III I think, Domobrana would certainly match the in universe idea of the Human Alliance hurriedly formed to protect their lands from Orkish Horde literally emerging from another world (which the Alliance think is an invasion even though its more of a migration).
Just stumbled upon your channel through the deathless videos, probably recommended to me because I watched the Giant grant videos before. Really cool to see some love for WC1 and WC2!
Thanks a lot bro! He definitely was an inspiration and im happy to have the community that is growing here! You should pop into a stream sometime last week we played war 1 and 2 multiplayer 😁 was lots of fun
Lol, i recently tried playing the first Warcraft game. I didn't realize that you could control multiple units at once. Thought it was all single unit. It's extremely difficult to control on the laptop I'm using to play. Oh, qnd to answer your question, i bought the version on Battlenet
How does it play on battlenet? I used a mouse plugin which allowed for right clicking and easy drag selection on units a major gamechanger ... Bit buggy but huge quality of life
Nice work! Fighting the warcraft 1 controls looks so painful! I wonder what caused the enemy to stockpile so many catapults. Is that something that's happened other times you've played this level, or does the enemy usually attack with them?
been wondering that myself, they typically attack with catapults often but usually leave 1 or 2 at home. I wonder maybe since I had no archers? or spellcasters for a while like maybe catas are triggered by groups of certain units? No idea but it was almost like a save glitch in War1 ahah im sure if they didnt camp their spawn I could have potentially wore them down without invis
Love the videos man great stuff, i absolutely love you being completely unfiltered honesty a breath of fresh air. BUT it's absolutely destroying your algorithm exposure so keep that in mind , but i assume you couldn't give less of a donkies ass about that so just have fun
Thanks for the support! Oh yeah it definitely does but I am glad that I still have a community that found and appreciates me for being me! Separates me from others in the field too haha. Thanks for watching!
At a glance i doubt it, having said that you never really know! I think the hardest part would be getting enough trained Id have to have multiple town halls and money could be tight on some maps.
A question I've often asked myself. Can't wait to see if the answer is Yes, Yes!, or Yes my lord.
Damn, you just keep coming. At this rate you'll complete the Warcraft franchise with literally every challenge at once!

0:36 To be fair, someone who knew about etymology would probably know that "entomology" is the study of insects. ;)
Dammit spellcheck tricked me again! Haha
Iddy: can I beat this game with only footmen?
The 16 Catapults at Blackrock Spire: what did you say, you little punk?
Catapults be like, "do you feel lucky? Go ahead make my day" should have a picture of clint eastwood with green skin ahah
I saw this man descent into darkness live.
Still yu da mvp for trying it D:
Thank you for making these videos. I can only imagine the pain you go through!
My pain brings the community pleasure haha so its worth it in the end 😁

Uhm, dude, I think it's obvious that Iddy was making a joke there.
That music + those explosion sounds... very Spoony of you.

Or you could call them swordsmen.
@@Spellweaver5 That to would work, and be distinct from the archers.
Stayed for the warcraft I content, came for the feet men, wait what.
Awesome content Iddy, I really like your strategy game content, leaving this humble comment for the UA-cam engagement gods here.
Thanks so much bro! Appreciate the support 😀 the community is what keeps me goin

Thanks so much! Random comment or no its nice to know people are enjoying my stuff 😁

How about an Earthshaker?
Also yay! My art's there!
Footmen only? You mean the go to tactic for 10 year old me
and now try grunts only.
This foot joke gets old quickly.
In Polish language footman equivalent is just "Piechór" so Soldier that walks.
You might be able to do it with only knights and footman
I thiught about a goody challenge being moustaches only, so knights footman would fit...archers too but they are too good

Are you changing the channel name to Admiral (Ret'd) Iddy? Thanks for keeping our shores safe.
I look at it more like being batman ahah The Admiral shall maintain vigilance! Thanks for the comment 😊
Can you beat Warcraft II with only Peasants and Peons?
At a glance i doubt it, having said that you never really know! I think the hardest part would be getting enough trained Id have to have multiple town halls and money could be tight on some maps.
@@Admiral_Iddy It'd probably be easier in Warcraft III because Peasants can get turned into militia for extra damage and armor.
Yes, possibly with ease. I may post a video or several of myself doing so.
First for alliance supremacy
Too bad there weren't any Assmen in the Stormwind Army :(
haha they werent allowed to enlist because of the ogres in the second war ;) too many cheeks out!
this aint war1gus man is it
@@martind5653 nope! I have tried war1gus its pretty cool but this is classic war1 horrible controls and all 😁
@@Admiral_Iddy I am allowing you to do grunts only in war1gus
