Destiny 2 Lore - Did we just forget about Oryx's Dreadnaught? If Xivu claims it, we could be screwed

  • Destiny 2's Lore and Story is coming to a climax with the upcoming Final Shape expansion, but there are some story elements like the Dreadnaught from all the way back in the Taken King that have somewhat fallen by the wayside. Today I wanted to present the idea that we should really care more about The Dreadnaught because it represents a series of missed story opportunities for Bungie and the universe of Destiny.

I love how this guy thinks about lore more logically than devs themselves… it’s even worrying lmao

  • @Salemander5000

"That doesn't sound bad, until you remember the hive don't wear socks." is potentially the funniest thing you've ever said when heard without context.

Byf: half hour rant on taking the Dreadnaught

  • @ianhinsley8140

I was thinking about this earlier today! Xivu is cut off from her throne world… an abandoned throne world is just sitting there… the hive episode is called heresy - my theory is that Xivu commits heresy by breaking the sword logic and taking the Dreadnaught for herself in desperation

The entrance to the dreadnaught felt more like dropping into a war in progress than neomuna ever did. Watching the cabal and hive battle it out only for the Primus to be taken right in front of us was awesome. Also, how many other Cabal have we met that are on that same level as that guy? Ghaul, Caiatl, Calus, all them were technically above that Primus in rank but still, at that time he was one of the most high ranking cabal we had ever seen and Oryx just... Took him, in one moment. So much cooler of a moment than that Tormentor jumpscare in lightfall lmao.

Toland after the Worm Gods makes a pact with him as he takes the Dreadnuaght: “It’s free real estate”.

Maybe no one is able to command it because it responded to Oryx alone so it's essentially dead in space and just floating there? I figured at most, it was just securing potential threats within it, like it's power core to prevent it from being destroyed.

Man seeing this D1 gameplay makes me so nostalgic. Spent many many hours just running around exploring different areas of the the Dreadnaught. Good times. Would love to see it come back in D2.

I think a fantastic story thread would be if you had Nokris try to claim the Dreadnought as a means of claiming his father's throne and legacy as the next Taken King, with Savathun and Xivu Arath trying to contest his claim. Then you could actually explore Nokris' character and his relationship with his deceased father.

With Kelgorath having a shard of Willbreaker, I wonder if he could activate the weapon on the Dreadnaught?

I wish we had strikes on Pyramid Ships/key points of interest. The Witness is inside the Traveler and the rest of the Pyramid Fleet is just sitting inside Sol doing nothing. We should be launching offensives on these ships to cripple the enemy, but instead we're sitting idly by doing nothing. Same thing with the Dreadnaught! It's just sitting there doing nothing when we, the Vanguard, should be actively working to secure it so it doesn't fall into enemy hands.

I always figured that - as Oryx's throne world - the Dreadnaught's power would be extremely diminished after his maker's death. Perhaps it's mostly a husk now. Sure, filled with hundreds of thousands of Hive, but in essence inert. I don't know if Xivu could simply take it over since it's not of her making. Maybe Bungie sees it that way, which is why it's been left alone for years now.

One thing I still find really scary:

  • @sandforthesoul5686

I love the Dreadnought as both a location and part of the lore. It would be pretty cool to have some kind of narrative event tied to securing it and keeping it from the claws of the Hive.

  • @ZaliaChimera

There is lore (Immolant Part 2) that confirms the status of the Dreadnaught as damaged beyond repair, with Akka dying, connections failing, systems fading.

  • @moralybankrupt3653

Xivu would have to fix the weapons we disabled....but a return to the Dreadnaught would be amazing

  • @bradleyvarcoe1515

    Has a bad day

  • @Ave_Echidna

I mean, we just left the Almighty floating around out in space unattended...

It's kind of amazing how the loss of Sagira has impacted humanity as a whole. It's inarguable she GREATLY enhanced the results Osiris would get, and working with her he was easily 10 times as effective. Her loss is a far bigger impact than most even realize. She was truly incredible.
