    I've been listening to KISS since I was 10 years old in 1976, so to watch these kids listening to KISS like turning over a rock and seeing a bug for the first time cracks me up. "What is it? I don't know." Lol

      I just recently heard the remixed version on “Smashes, Thrashes, and Hits” and I have to admit, I like the drums better on that version. The drums aren’t as overpowering, not as much reverb or whatever is on this one. Still a kick ass song in every way, shape, or form though.

    KISS songs are good. When you listen to KISS performing them live, they are AMAZING. --- I liked them. Then I went to see them in concert, and I was knocked out of this realm in wonder. They are tops or right at the top of any band live.

  • @ChicagoTRS

    I feel Kiss is a very important band in the grand scheme of metal. They inspired 80s metal, especially glam, hair rock, extreme live stage shows, and then probably indirectly all of the extreme metal that would come after. Kiss was a phenomenon there was nothing else like them at the time.

    First concert I ever went to was KISS in 1978. I have been to well over 100 concerts in my time and by the way, have seen them 4 times. By far they were the loudest ever. Ears would ring for a day after the show.

    FINALLY!!! More KISS! You're gonna hear this a lot but you need to check them out LIVE! The best performances are from the early days with the original 4 members but any good quality live version video is worth checking out. They have albums spanning like 5 decades the library is huge, their style evolved with the times and because of this and the different member line-ups each era of KISS has a different sound/vibe. They are almost a different band from album to album. Check out - I Stole Your Love (Live), Black Diamond, (Live), Cold Gin (Live), Parasite (Live), Dirty Livin (Studio)...sooo many others! For the most part you want live from like 75-79...when they were on top of the world!

Anything from that set, but Nothing to Lose and Rock n Roll All Nite from Unplugged features the original members + the current members at that time Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer, 6 man band awesome! Also they put out an album of covers called KISS My A** featuring some interesting acts you wouldn't associate with KISS! (Lenny Kravitz, Garth Brooks)

    • @s.mcpherson6354
      @s.mcpherson6354 2 роки тому +3

      Yeah, there is no way to 'get' KISS without seeing them perform live. Half of what's going on is missing. That's why I prefer it when reactors use the videos, but conceal them from us so they don't have copyright issues. Especially for them, looking from another era's perspective, that added context is pretty huge. Hearing Janis Joplin without seeing her loses a lot of what people loved about Janis. Same here.

    • @s.mcpherson6354
      @s.mcpherson6354 2 роки тому +2

      @Chief10 Beers I believe it's reasonable to assume that KISS did not wear makeup and costumes because they perceived their act didn't have an important visual element. I love them, but they aren't known as great composers, just solid players with a great act. We can listen to those kinds of bands on the radio and bop along and have fun, agreed. But for people who've seen them in makeup, the songs exist in a different context, and the truth is made of both a fact and its context. So agreed, on the radio they fact is that they are still legit. But that does not mean the version with the visual layer added is not what the radio is, plus a whole other sense. That too is legit, without taking anything away from your valid point.

    • @feldspar3858
      @feldspar3858 2 роки тому

      No the current KISS… Lyp syncing and not really playing their instruments. What a hollow band they’ve become. At least Ace still tours and plays live.

    • @willhorting5317
      @willhorting5317 2 роки тому +1

      While I would agree that to get the "ultimate, complete" KISS experience, then yes see the stage show. But if you are going to do that, male sure to watch both a show during the makeup years AND a show during the non-makeup years.......That being said, I actually disagree that you need to see the show in order to understand and relate to the songs. Admittedly, I became more of a fan after seeing them on the Paul Lynde Halloween special in 1976. But they were already my favorite group before I ever seen that. Heck, the only time I seen them in person was in '85 or '86. And my seat was so far from the stage that I could barely see it..... So, in my unasked for opinion, no a person doesn't need to experience the stage show. All is needed is to immerse (sp) yourself in the music and lyrics. Let your brain do the rest.😎

    • @s.mcpherson6354
      @s.mcpherson6354 2 роки тому +1

      @Chief10 Beers Yeah, agreed, it's hard for people today to imagine that, before recorded video, we might never have seen a major performer we listened to a lot. But even then, even when it was just live, there were still bands in that Glam Rock style--which KISS saw the tail end of --.where the visuals were considered a major component of being a fan of that band. Not seeing Neil Young live I could live with. But not seeing Pink Floyd or Kiss live is, to me and many others, an additional experience. So I do think if they saw them live, they would 'get' them better than just hearing the songs.

I ended up standing in front of the speaker, my nose inches from it with my eyes closed just loving it. If you have a large loud speaker. Put on something you can get into. Turn it up loud. Put your face and inch or two from it. And feel the music right between your eyes. I've done this sober as well.

    This is KISS's version of AC/DC's "For Those About To Rock". It's a Rock anthem. I love KISS. But of the two, I'd put For Those About To Rock ahead of I Love It Loud. It's all about feeling the full force of the music. He wants the sound to hit him right between the eyes like a real punch in the face.

    Creatures of the Night is such a beast of a record - and Eric Carr's finest hour with Kiss. You might be surprised to know that 80's rocker Bryan Adams and his co-writer Jim Vallance actually co-wrote songs on the album including arguably the heaviest song on the album "War Machine" - though "I Love It Loud" was written by Gene Simmons and Vinnie Vincent.

    Since it's usually associated with being shot / blown away violently with a bullet, "right between the eyes" is just a reference to EXTREME, in-your-face loudness. Check more Kiss or you're missing out. Mr. Speed, Reason To Live, Strutter, or anything from their early days would be good.

    • @Deathbird_Mitch
      @Deathbird_Mitch 2 роки тому

      "Right between the eyes" is also a reference to a punch in the face. The ideal punch (sudden, hard, and square in your face) that knocks you back on your A$$.

    I'm glad to see you do Kiss. In the early 70's - I was in the Kiss Army - which was just a clever marketing scheme - this is a 'mediocre' rock band that was brilliant at marketing themselves - they earned millions in royalties by putting their image on everything from keychains to kids' lunch pails. They even had a famous made-for-TV movie in the 70's. My personal favorite Kiss song is Strutter. Thanks for you reactions.

      The kiss army was not a marketing scheme, but a grass roots movement by a guy named bill starkey in Indiana to get the local radio station to play KISS songs in honor of an upcoming sold out concert. Starkey promised an "army" of fans would show up outside the radio station and they did. Kiss was so impressed by this that, from then on the fan club would be called the KISS army!

    Eric Carr (R.I.P. 😪) on drums. He joined Kiss in 1980 for the 'Unmasked' tour... he assumed the 'Fox' character on stage. He played on Kiss' 1981 album, but it was this 1982 Kiss album 'Creatures of the night' where his thunderous drumming skills were felt on a record - it was Kiss' heaviest album. Unfortunately, Kiss had original members Ace Frehley (lead guitar) and Peter Criss (drums) out of the band, so they were not selling well in 1981 to 1983... Eric Carr and lead guitarist Vinnie Vincent wore makeup for that tour, but Kiss opted to remove the makeup in 1983. The non-makeup Kiss was a rebirth and the band surged in popularity in the 80's.
    Eric Carr is considered Kiss' best drummer by the fans... his explosive drumming was a big component during the non-makeup era of Kiss. He played in Kiss from 1980 until his death from cancer in 1991... Kiss released the track 'Carr jam' in 1992 which had a great drum solo by Eric Carr. U can check out his live drum solos on UA-cam.
    'I love it loud' is one of Gene Simmons'😝 (bass/vocals) best Kiss songs... along with 'War machine' ... 'Unholy' ... 'Fits like a glove' ... 'Rock and roll all nite' 🤘🤘🔥🔥

    As others have said KISS is a show band and just hearing the song is only half the experience. I know it’s not always practical to do videos but maybe you can watch the video on your own time to see the rest of the presentation. Queen is another one that really benefits from watching the whole show to get the experience.
