Gene and Paul rarely ever used substances at all. To quote Paul, "You know that phrase sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll? Well, you can keep the drugs." But, yeah, they definitely enjoyed the other two things. And, Gene was actually born with that tongue. He used to freak people out with it in grade school.

The audio track is the original Kiss from their 1975 live album 'Alive!'
"Rock and roll all nite" was released as a single from their 3rd album 'Dresserd to kill' in '75, but didn't do much... But when the double live album was released months later, the live version of "Rock and roll all nite" became a huge hit and gave Kiss their first platinum record in the US.
FYI - Gene Simmons (bass & vocals) has a naturally long tongue... his son Nick Simmons has the same long tongue, as revealed in their reality TV show "Gene Simmons' Family Jewels"... w/ his daughter Sophie, and his partner (later wife) actress and former Playboy model Shannon Tweed. It really ended the myth that Gene Simmons was this wild life rock star 😂😂He came across like a geek who loves comic books... always works to make business deals... and he's always hustling for business opportunities to make money 🤑
Shannon Tweed is 65 years old now, and is still gorgeous... She and Gene have been together since 1984... and she comes across as an orderly mom who always likes to tease and burst Gene's bubble.
Paul Stanley (vocals & guitar) is a lot more private in real life, being the main leader of Kiss... Although very different from Gene personality-wise, he also works hard to make Kiss a success... managing all aspects of Kiss' business and image. What brought him and Gene together was that they both shared a work ethic and were equally driven to succeed in music.
A lot of the images used in the video here were highlights from their career from 1974 until 1989. Some 80's cheesy footage was included, but it's a good visual representation of Kiss.

Paul Stanley (b.Stanley Eisen) and Gene Simmons (b.Chaim Witz) formed KISS because they wanted to create the sort of band they themselves never saw live - with energetic performances, theatrics and bombast.
Beyond that, they simply wanted to achieve two major life goals:
    1) Get rich
    2) Get laid.
    They succeeded.
Today, KISS is not simply a band, it's a brand.

No Uppers! Gene and Paul didn't care for drugs. Gene's wife, Shannon Tweed, famously said that when she met Gene she had to give up recreational drugs as he didn't drink or do drugs. This video might be a little confusing for those not familiar with Kiss, it's a montage covering many years and events, videos, and film. Gene barfing blood is featured when he sings God of Thunder and goes full on demon, lol.
I saw original Kiss at Olympia stadium in Detroit, early 1978, at 13 years old. Flipping amazing, and it warped me forever, hahaha! Back then you had to line up at the ticket office at the venue, no ticketmasters. First in line got the first seat, front row, and some artists didn't honor box seat purchases. Kids would camp out all night in line. Lots turned up the next morning, dressed and painted up like Kiss, to get their tickets. It was great!

Even back in HS when they exploded on the scene I thought of them as a product (referred to as Brand these days) rather than a band. Never got into them at all. Thought they were bubblegum rock, but was in awe of the originality. I was right even at my young age. Gene Simmons was/is a marketing genius! He knew exactly what he was doing. Running a profitable business! Before I get clobbered for not liking this band, I saw them in concert back then and it was truly amazing! Their shows were phenomenal!

@Patch15 Agree. KISS came on the scene when I wax in my mid 20's. I went to see the band Argent (Hold You Head Up) down in St. Louis May 3, 1974 at The Ambassador Theater. The opening band was KISS and it was their first major tour. I had no idea who they were but a vast majority of the crowd was younger and definitely there to see their newest rock gods. I didn't care for the music but I couldn't take anything away from their energy and showmanship. I'll never forget seeing Gene Simmons standing about 15 foot tall on those outrageous leather studded boots, dripping fake blood and flicking that incredibly long tongue. My date was very impressed with that...lol

There is nothing wrong with making a product that pleases the customer. You want a computer that runs fast - free markets provide them because the businesses that make them want to please the customer because that is what ships units. You want high quality sound systems, same thing. You want a variety of foods available all times of the year - free markets provide. Socialism/marxism instead gives you only what the rulers want you to have, in poor quality and quantity, because while they claim to be 'for the people' they are the rulers and they do not give a flip about you.
Artistically, Kiss is/was middle of the road, shallow rock. If you want artistic listen to King Crimson or Yes or a bunch of others that were artistic. There is a place for both styles. Sometimes you just want to party down and not listen to a lot of nuance or contemplate esoteric lyrics. Sometimes you do. There are bands that provide for just about any taste you might have because they are free to do so. And this is a good thing.

This song is what launched me on my quest to be a professional musician. Late 1075 and a kid in my class brought the single to school. We wore that record out on the library's record player. We had to where crappy headphones but that didn't matter. I was a professional musicina for 18 years. I gave it all up to get married and raise her children. I didn't think any woman should be forced to put up with what happens with fans and musicians. I had a couple bands that had near misses with the big time but it didn't happen. But it was so great. And this song started me down that path. I have played this song in virtually every band I have been in. I played it on bass and on drums and I sometimes handed off my bass and fronted the band. I will always be a Kiss fan.

"Detroit Rock City" s a real rave-up, while "Beth" is a bittersweet ballad, sung by Peter Criss, about his wife and the life of a rock n roll drummer. "Beth" was the B-side of the single with "Detroit Rock City" as the A-side. "Beth" became their biggest hit, in the fall of 1976.

This is a retrospective video with clips of various band configurations from the original line up in the early 70s to the 80s with various clips from their concerts and music videos. Cool montage. They were the best at self promotion in the business. They set the standard for merchandise with the KISS Army fan club and all kinds of products from lunch boxes, to action figures, and everything in between. Before the internet and the papparzzi really took off, they were able to go years without anyone recognizing them in public without their trademark face paint. 4 distinct characters, the demon, the lover, the cat and the spaceman. Kids ate it up. They were the definitive rock and roll party band of the 70s.

@@jonlate4581 Hmm. This is where I based them both being fired from. It's a direct quote from Gene with Guitar world in 2019.
"But Ace and Peter have gotten three chances. They were in and out of the band - fired - three times. For drugs, alcohol, bad behavior, being unprofessional… all the clichés are clichés. Even suicide is overrated. It’s been done many times. So the only reason Ace and Peter were let go the first time, and then the second time and then the third time, is that they weren’t carrying their load. You can’t be in a car with two flat tires. It’s not going to go anywhere." - Gene Simmons.

They even got an animated whats new scooby doo movie all about the gang visiting a kiss themed theme park. You may have heard it there if you watched whats new scooby doo movies growing up. They still have some of their more famous songs like this one on the radio from time to time if you get on the right station. The one with the long tongue is Gene Simmons. His tongue is 7 inches and suprisingly real. There is a lot of speculation of him getting surgery enhancements but anywhere you look it will say thats only speculation and his tongue is the real deal.

KISS is widely regarded as four of the best musical talents in a single band. Top three bass players: Entwistle (The Who), Carol Kaye (Wrecking Crew) and Gene Simmons (Kiss). Greatest guitarist ever: Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman, and Ace Frehley (KISS). Greatest drummer: Keith Moon (The Who), Neal Peart (RUSH) and Peter Criss ( KISS). Their songs were modern day masterpieces: Lick it Up, I Wanna Rock n Roll All Night, and Calling Dr Love. Musical prodigies is not too strong a phrase to use when describing these guys who were part Mozart and part Beatles. I’m lucky to have lived when they have been making musical history.

Per Songfacts Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of Kiss wrote this track, which became their signature song and was usually played as the last song in their encores. Stanley told Bruce Pollock: "Originally Gene and I would tend to help each other fill in the gaps. 'Rock and Roll All Night' came about because we felt we needed an anthem, a song that could be the rallying cry for all of our fans. So I went back to the hotel and came up with the chorus and the melody. Then I went down to see Gene and he came up with the verses. We used to write a lot like that. As Gene and I became better writers we became either less willing to bend on our individual ideas, or it may have been that we both figured our songs would be stronger if developed by the person who wrote them."
In the book Music, Lyrics, and Life, Stanley says Bogart asked them to write "A song that your fans can rally behind. A song that says what you stand for and what the manifesto is."
The plan worked, but not right away. The studio version, released on April 2, 1975 and included on their third album, Dressed To Kill peaked at #68 on the Hot 100. But the song is best experienced live, fueled with the energy from the crowd. To capture this energy, Casablanca released a live version, recorded at Cobo Hall, Detroit, on May 16, 1975, as a single later that year. This version reached #12 in early 1976, giving Kiss their first substantial hit. It also anchored Alive!, their first of many Gold-certified albums.

This particular video was made specifically to be near the end of their KISS Exposed video, which I have on VHS. I got into KISS in 1978, but was too young to go to see them then (especially since my father HATED that I liked them, and spouted the whole Kings/Knights In Service to Satan crap.) Eventually, I did get to see them 5 or 6 times, and Gene Simmons pointed at me and my sister during "God of Thunder" at one show, when he was atop the lighting rig. He loves when fans really get into the show, and we were going nuts, and singing every little creepy part of the song. They will always be one of my favorite bands, because they saved my life. Listening to them was a great way to get back at my a$$hole father. 😁🤘💖

@4:59 THAT was the rumor in the 70s (none of which are true) he had it cut BUT that's Gene Simmons natural tongue! & there were LOTS of other rumors ,the blood was real that he spits, the acronym for KISS was supposed to be Knight's In Satan's Service, just hyped up the image of them.
Out of the OG members (there's been 10 members over the years) Gene(Bass,Vocals, doesn't & never has done drugs he even did a DARE commercial in the 80s) has been with Shannon Tweed for 28 years, two kids:
Paul Stanley Guitar/Vocals) has been married 17 years to wife Erin 3 kids:
Peter Criss Drums/Vocals) been married 3 times he's been with wife Gigi since '98 1 kid:
Ace Frehley girlfriend Lara, divorced 1 kid.
    Although the 70s & 80's who knows!😁
There are SOOO many great songs from them! Here are just a few (in no order from throughout their Career), "Black Diamond", "Beth", "I Love it Loud" ,"Heaven's on Fire", "Hard Luck Women", "Strutter", "Tears Are Falling", "Deuce", "Shock Me", "War Machine" , "Hide your Heart" , "Unholy" 😃

Not the hugest Kiss fan, but did see them in the 70s with Rush opening. This was before Kiss Alive! broke them HUGE. It was one of the best concerts I ever attended. They were definitely entertaining, graphic and a lot of fun to watch. Paul once said that when he and Gene put the act together, they wanted to put on the show they always wanted to see as fans but nobody ever did. They succeeded. Personally, their self titled first album and the follow up Hotter Than Hell are my favorite studio LPs from them. You should check out Strutter and Deuce from the first album and the title track and Goin' Blind from the second. Hmmm, maybe I'm a bigger fan than I'm letting on.

gene simmons, married to Shannon Tweed, has never touched drugs or alcohol...he's of Jewish decent, and was very devoted to his mother, a holocaust survivor, paul stanley as far as I know was "relatively" straight, Peter Criss, was married to Lydia Criss, the song BETH, is actually her, Ace, on the other hand, had lots of trouble, and eventually was out of the band, even having to dub his lines in the movie "KISS meets the Phantom", he was so high on who knows what and couldn't speak his lines, lol, So I've been a KISS fan since they came on the music scene, way back in the 70's, and spent 30 plus years as a radio DJ for classic rock and rock radio, the used to be a favorite of mine, and though I still pull out an old LP, on occasion, I rarely listen to them, in lieu of something a bit "headier"...such as The Floyd! Rock ON!!!

The song itself is a classic anthem because of a simple structure, powerful chorus, and positive message. When the first live album KISS ALIVE! was released in September of 75, this song put the band on the map.
