This was the last music video shot with Eric Carr before he passed. He was already at a late stage in his illness and begged Paul and Gene to be in the video even though they told him he was too sick to play. We sat three rows back from the stage in front of Gene which is my favorite. I came home with a Gene pic and a microphone cover Gene and Paul used to sing that evening. Greatest show ever.
@johnsmith6251 I have mixed thoughts about this 🧐. They still did this, live, for a few years during the 1990s. After 2003, KISS lineup, of Gene, Paul, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, stopped playing this. It's strange. Don't know if was out of respect to Eric Carr or just, simply, because the octave is too high and Paul could no longer sing it. 🤷🤔

Written by Russ Ballard and recorded by Argent (Rod Argent formerly of The Zombies).Russ was guitarist and lead singer for most of Argent's career. He was also a prolific songwriter for others.
I love KISS, like the song, but "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" is a song originally written and recorded by the British band Argent in 1973. The song gained even greater popularity when it was covered by the Christian rock band Petra in their album “Beat the System” released in 1984. The song was later covered by Kiss as "God Gave Rock 'N' Roll To You II" in 1991, with modified lyrics.

Great song from Kiss. Hey Night Ranger is a great 80s rock band. "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" or "You Can Still Rock In America" are two rockers you can start with
This is a cover song. It’s not a KISS song, but they did a great job with it. Eric Carr’s last video. He died shortly after this, the same day Freddie Mercury past.
KISS was my go to band as I was growing up. I discovered them real young and saw them on a TV show called the Midnight Special. I was hooked. Paul Stanley had always been my favorite but I admired the others as well. They were something very different and that's what attracted me. I collected all kinds of KISS memorabilia and sadly lost most of it not long after I got out of high school because of moving to different places. I used to have the dolls, a lunch box, a KISS Army patch, and I even won a one side LP from a local radio station for answering a KISS question correctly. I lost interest slowly after Ace and Peter left. I still listen to their music but its mostly older stuff. Unfortunately, I have never seen them in concert. Please do some more KISS!!!
I finally heard this live in 2004 when they changed up the set list. I’ve always enjoyed this song. It was different though, at the end of their final Nashville show when this played over the speakers with the big “NASHVILLE, KISS LOVES YOU” on the screen I had such a lump in my throat. My daughters were with me and they both started cryin saying “I don’t want KISS to retire!” Non kiss fans will never understand, but this band has meant so much to my life. And now I’m getting choked up again.
I know the guy who originally wrote this song. This is a cover of an Argent song from the early 70s. My ex-girlfriend's grandad was in the band and I've met Rod Argent many times. He's such a cool dude.
I started going to KISS concerts in 2012. Went on to see them 9 times. This song always plays on the loudspeakers at the end of their shows presumably since it came out in 1991. They play it on high as the lights come on just after they get done playing "Rock 'n' Roll All Night. Saw their last show ever in So Cal at the Hollywood Bowl in Nov. 2023. It was perfect, they still had it. Glad you found them. Next up: "Are You Serious" by C.C. Catch from 1988.
As a KISS fan, you should definitely check out the movie Detroit Rock City, about 4 high school kids in a KISS tribute band and their wild adventures on their way to see KISS in Detroit. A classic.
It's already been mentioned in the comments that this is a cover of the band Ardent but another excellent cover was done by the iconic Christian rock band Petra. You should check it out. This Kiss version was used in the 90's movie Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. This is the song Bill & Ted first played when they returned from the future after they finally learned how to play their instruments.
Kiss was truly a product of an era when rock bands could dream of making it big and playing arenas... Currently, there r no new bands in the scene that can fill arenas and appeal to generations the way Kiss did... Paul, Gene, Ace and Peter worked the touring scene w/ their idea of Kiss and did not stop until they were selling millions of records and filling arenas... And the great part is that when Kiss made it big, they gave the opportunity for other bands to open for them to get exposure - some of them even surpassed Kiss (AC/DC, Rush, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Judas Priest, Queensryche, Slaughter, Alice in Chains, 311, etc.) When Kiss was asked to record "God gave rock n' roll to you II" in 1991 for a movie soundtrack, it came at a bad time... Eric Carr (drums) who had been in Kiss since 1980, was diagnosed w/ cancer and was undergoing treatment... Paul & Gene told Eric that Kiss was going back into the studio to work on the track and new album w/ session drummer Eric Singer... They wanted him to focus on recovering. Of course, Eric Carr was devastated... he wanted to play but he was too weak and frail at the time... When the time came to shoot the music video, Eric begged the band to have him in it... and they agreed. Eric had no hair and had to be fitted w/ a wig and clothes to hide his frame... but he played the best he could on a track he did not record. It was the last time he performed w/ Kiss. According to the band, Eric Carr stopped communicating w/ Kiss shortly after (He was under the impression that he needed to join a new band - Paul and Gene insisted he had not been fired... merely substituted on the upcoming Kiss album 'Revenge' ) and was soon found unconscious at his home... Eric Carr slipped into a coma a passed away in late 1991... All 4 original Kiss members attended his funeral. Eric Carr is definitely remembered by Kiss fans as their best drummer... His thundering beats and animated personality was a huge part of the non-makeup era of Kiss.
There are a few new rock bands that can fill arenas. But one in particular is headed that way. The Warning. They've done stadium and arena shows supporting other bands and have been a big hit on the festival circuit. They'll be headlining clubs to support their fourth album starting in July in Europe. I'm not saying they're a new embodiment of KISS (though Ale on bass has clearly watched Gene on stage). But they certainly do rock out hard. Love Bruce Kulick with KISS, guitarist at that time. So good, should I say he was my favorite KISS guitarist? Never got the respect he deserved. Also played with Meatloaf and Michael Bolton (Band: Blackjack). Plus, Eric Carr was my favorite drummer.
Bruce was the best KISS guitarist. Not only is he remarkably talented, he is also a very nice man. I've had the chance to meet him several times and every time was even more enjoyable than the last.
@@cbarton537 He seemed likeable, his guitar wok has always been great. I wish they could have had him over Tommy Thayer; not sure why he wasn't brought back in the later years. Did he have a problem with face paint?
@jeremiahrose4681 I never asked, but I did read somewhere that he wasn't asked and he would never have considered putting on Ace's makeup. We went backstage once when he was playing with Grand Funk and he was so kind to my daughter and my niece. He was their very first celebrity meet. He answered every one of their questions, told them a few jokes, and even made us take pictures of them with him and send them to him. You don't find a whole lot of celebrities who would do that.
I was fortunate enough to have seen Eric Carr live on drums with kiss during their hot in the shade tour before he passed away. It was the day before my 18th birthday June 7th 1990 in Columbus Ohio. Slaughter opened for them and a smaller band by the name of Little Caesar played before slaughter. It was a great show all the way around. 🤘🏼
I’m really surprised that this song hasn’t seen an off-the-charts resurgence in popularity on TikTok yet… It’s great to be reminded that this is top notch rock and roll.
This is a cover a good one of the original by ARGENT. I think I still like the original better though. They recorded this in one of their comeback periods when for a while they didn't wear the masks. Check out the original please
This song is originally from early 70s glam band Argent, i think it was in 1973 they were from England, at the time i lived in East Camden New Jersey. Wow time flyes!!
God Gave Rock 'N Roll To You II is one of my top best songs growing up from my childhood. Kiss wrote it the same year I was born; 1991, but a month after and is also as a great ending music for Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. Most Excellent, dudes and babes. Be excellent to each other and Party On, Dudes!
I saw them live in 2003-04. It was such a great show it was in Knoxville TN at the Thompson Bolling Arena. It had the original members in makeup too. It's something I'll never forget. I want to request again something relativity new. AC/DC Demon Fire its from their 2020 album. Such a banger!!! Much love from Virginia 💙🙏💙🙏
As others have said, this was written by Rod Argent, who was in The Zombies with your recent interviewee, Colin Blundstone before forming his own band who had a hit with this song.
This was filmed before the farewell tour, that's why they had those old footage of them back in the 70s, cuz' this was supposed to be the last time we saw them, but they always came back😂🤘
As mentioned earlier this was a song originally done by the band Argent. I would encourage you to check out the cover version by a band called Petra, they were a pioneer band in what was called Jesus Rock which started around the 1960's.
I love that they're wearing no makeup. No need for the schtick, however fun & glamish it was. This one & I Was Made For Loving You are my faves, maybe Detroit Rock City, too. Great reaction. Blessings ❤
Hey, Jay and Amber, the music video for this song was the last one that Kiss had done with Eric Carr appearing in the video, before succumbing to heart cancer. They'd originally wanted to have him record the song for the album that it appeared on, but he'd been unable to, so Eric Singer, who would later replace Eric Carr on drums, played it when the song was recorded
Lots of Kiss "Purists" only listen to the original band albums (70's), and although I agree that was their best period, there are three great albums that they put out in the 80s and 90's (Creatures Of the Night in '82, Lick It Up in '83 and Revenge in '92. Regardless of your preference for which lineup you like the most, you owe it to yourself to check out those three albums. You won't be disappointed! Thanks for reacting to this one and Amber, you absolutely have to hear Paul's singing on "I Still Love You" from the Unplugged show! It is his absolutely finest moment!

So glad you did this one, I recommend it a couple times, and I KNEW you two would love it!!!!
Finally they get this song on here. Love this song.
Love your reaction. When you get time do a reaction to a kiss song..TURN ON THE NIGHT. Thanks . ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great reaction!!! I haven't heard that song in a while, another KISS kick ass song!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Rock on! ❤✝☮
Speaking of the drums Kiss has been blessed with three of the best ever Peter,Eric and Eric! Amazing
All the great gifts God had given us,he gave us rock and roll and the rob squad. Thank you God.
This song is originally from early 70s glam band Argent, i think it was in 1973 they were from England, at the time i lived in East Camden New Jersey. Wow time flyes!!
This song is one of my granddaughter’s lullabies. She loves this song. She tells me “Grams, sing Rock & Roll” ❤ She is 5.
I seen the same concert! I am from Tennessee.
As others have said, this was written by Rod Argent, who was in The Zombies with your recent interviewee, Colin Blundstone before forming his own band who had a hit with this song.
This was Kiss' joint-biggest hit in the UK reaching no. 4 in 1991-2. It's a cover.
This was filmed before the farewell tour, that's why they had those old footage of them back in the 70s, cuz' this was supposed to be the last time we saw them, but they always came back😂🤘
I grew up with this song. I’m glad to see it make your list! I’m a big Rush fan too cover the necromancer sometime. Great guitar solos! Thanks!
🔥🔥🔥Ace Frehley wrote the song "Parasite" for the Hotter Than Hell album. ....and it's an absolute banger!! Please hit that one!🤘🇺🇲
This songs always give me the chills
This is a song by Argent, feel free to check out their version.
Haven't heard this song is a long time. Nice anthem. I feel this one can be in a lot of movies.
Kiss is incredible!
I'm a Christian and I LOVE KISS. This song makes me believe MORE that God cteated EVERYTHING and not just ROCK 'n' Roll. 🙏🎸🥁
I learned that Paul Stanley played The Phantom in the huge musical, The Phantom of the Opera in New York. Who knew he had such a great voice?
Lots of Kiss "Purists" only listen to the original band albums (70's), and although I agree that was their best period, there are three great albums that they put out in the 80s and 90's (Creatures Of the Night in '82, Lick It Up in '83 and Revenge in '92. Regardless of your preference for which lineup you like the most, you owe it to yourself to check out those three albums. You won't be disappointed! Thanks for reacting to this one and Amber, you absolutely have to hear Paul's singing on "I Still Love You" from the Unplugged show! It is his absolutely finest moment!
This was when KISS was unmasked, no makeup and it was a song in the 2nd BILL & TED movie BILL & TED'S BOGUS JOURNEY..... It is a great song..... You got to react to their Ballad that MCHAEL BOLTON written song FOREVER which is a great song.....
