I wonder if there were just too many shirts in the pot at once, so that's why the dye wasn't even? From the footage the pot looked too full to really properly stir it well to distribute the dye.
I feel you on the sadness about finding a piece that you love and you have to let it go because your body has changed. I’m going through menopause and I’m having to give up items I have had over a decade
i LOVE how you showed the yearly trying on of last years summer clothes. It's a process we all go through and never get's talked about. Made me feel much better about letting go of things that no longer fit.
It’s about time someone creates a style of jeans that you can change the size at the waist, let’s be honest, our belly fluctuates depending on our periods, hormones or even throughout the day, so there should be a design out there that lets us determine the tightness at the waist (without being sweatpants, like more outwear), I bet a lot of us wouldn’t throw out as many jeans with something like that
This used to be more common! An older woman in my sewing circle was wearing a pair of pants with buttons on the sides of the waist and tabs where you could make them tighter or loser
Not jeans, but you should look into Thai wrap pants, which are an adaptation of Thai fisherman pants. They're super adjustable and easily compensate for weight fluctuations
I have maternity jeans and trousers for this exact reason. Also bra extenders for $6 spared me buying a whole new wardrobe of bras. A health condition had me fluctuating weight 2 sizes frequently. Skater and peasant dresses that drape well at a large size and belt in easily on trimmer days. So I have some outfits that are photogenic regardless of fluctuations.
I keep a spreadsheet of every item in my wardrobe that isn't underwear/pajamas/black leggings. It is GAME CHANGING. I know how often everything gets used (I track it!) and if something needs repair. This is making me think I could start doing that with some kitchen and garden items too!
I do this too! The spreadsheet completely changed my wardrobe for the better! I got my spread sheet from Christina Mychas and just edited it it a bit for my needs. I’m in my third year tracking! 😊
@@nicolebetterley9506 that's awesome! I've only been tracking for six months (I moved and decided to declutter, log everything and start tracking then) and it's already been game changing. It's so easy to identify items you love and might need a duplicate of or items you just don't vibe with. I work in data and analytics so I just built out my own sheet in Excel.
I do this too, though maybe not to the same extent as you. I keep track of what I have, how much it cost, how many years it lasts in my wardrobe. My goal is to keep using items until they are rags. There hasn't been that many items that have made it that far since I gained weight over the past four years. But I'm hoping to repurpose my too small clothes by making other items out of the fabric. I also hope to learn to sew my own clothing which can be made with extra room to adjust from weight gain or loss
I like how you show everything on and explain in detail the thought process. I miss that in a lot of other decluttering videos. I'm also the type that constantly wants to inventory everything, but I find that I never keep up with the changes and it's too stressful.
it's always been a habit in my family to demote clothes that are no longer 'presentable' for outside world to the category of sportswear/working in the garden. to the point that now i have more clothes for weeding and cycling than for formal occasions at work :D
I also hate when things I love no longer fit. That’s why I’ve started making my own clothes and altering ones I have. I’m focused on looser styles so my body can change and the clothes still look good. In winter I wear wool leggings under everything so I’ve gotten rid of all tight cut pants (sometimes even buying a size larger and using a belt). I’ve made several shorts and pants that I love now with elastic waists so they can change with me. Maybe more wrap skirts and I’ve even seen wrap pants would be a good investment!
Since you said you’re experimenting with your style, you might enjoy getting a color analysis done, which tells you your ideal color palette for your skin tone (warm, cool) and whether you look best in muted or bold colors. If I had to guess, I’d say you’re a Deep Winter- cool toned skin, high contrast. You look fantastic in black, white, and deep cool colors like burgundy and navy.
I have messed up a thing or two with rit dye. For best results in that pot, 1/2-1 bottle of dye per shirt and 1 at a time. The colors out of the rit bottles are not the best and often not true to color. Rit does have a formula guide for color inspiration and recipes. I do like jacquard idye as a better product. It basically just a tab of dye so not as flexible in mixing colors as a rit. When things get splotchy, it is kinda fixable. I suggest air drying a project after a dye. If it’s splotchy, you can keep washing out the dye or boiling the project again to try to pull out as much dye as possible. After it’s evened out a little, another round of dye may help reach the desired look. Hope that helps on future projects!
I dropped a few sizes during the pandemic and am now at my starting size again too!! I was feeling weird about it so thank you for posting this video! I think this is a common situation for people. I’ve been working hard to not feel bad about it. 💕
THANK YOU for normalising needing to declutter some clothing after you’ve gained weight ❤️❤️ I try my best to be sustainable in all aspects of life but my health means that my weight fluctuates often and hence I’m kind of stuck in a two yearly cycle of buying and decluttering jeans and other tighter fitting garments. I beat myself up for not being sustainable and over consuming but your video helped me to be more realistic and kinder to myself 🥰
I’ve decluttered a lot of clothes this year as I’ve lost a lot of weight. It is tough for me that most of my favourite pieces don’t fit and I have to find new ones. I try to thrift most of them but it is not easy to find something that I truly love while I still have to wear something😅 When I was watching your video I wanted to share with you one of the things that I’ve realised recently - it DOES matter if the clothes that we wear are flattering even if we use them only in our own houses. I don’t know about you but when I’m wearing something that I feel is not flattering, even only for a workout, it influences my mood and I perform worse or I don’t feel like doing something at all. I’ve had some pieces like your „comfy yet unflattering” shorts and I got rid of all of them. I’d rather have only one pair but one that I feel most comfortable in, not only in terms of fit :))
Firstly, I love your channel and I’m happy to see that you’re doing well and seem to have a new found energy! Proud of you for that. Secondly, Orange looks amazing on you! Like wow!
I think the skirts you felt were too tight would be fine with a different top - this was a good blog -you look terrific and only you can decide what’s right for you!
I love decluttering, have been doing it for at least a decade or more. I do it about once a season, I think? We live in a 4 season area, so it helps me decide what to wear and also what isn't working anymore. Also, it's like shopping your closet at the same time!
Great video! I'm easily inspired to go through my wardrobe and declutter, but sometimes I'm TOO inspired and end up giving away things that I later wish I kept. It's tough😂
Brilliant, well done, I seem to go through my wardrobe seasonally, it *is* exhausting! How about dyeing in the washing machine, it usually comes out pretty even. Looking forward to part 2 :)
In terms of dyeing, I have done lots, and for 100% cotton items I find the Dylon (or Rit, if easier for you to get in the US) machine dyes work the best and give really even coverage. If you wished, you could overdye the t shirts using a darker brown machine dye. Good luck!
I know I need to do a major whole-house decluttering because lately all my stuff has been making me feel a bit CLUTTERPHOBIC!! I live in the wilderness of northern 🇨🇦 and I love my hobbies… so much of what I have I do use, and it saves me from having to drive to town to get more stuff. Like everything in life, it’s such a delicate balance!! I defo can use some of your tips and inspiration I got from this video. TYSM, Immy!! Ⓜary💕
When a person declutters, this shows the mind is healing. I have been Vegan for years too but the last 15 months, I have been %100 Organic too. Not only has what I consume been Organic, products I wash with and put on my skin are Organic too. This has brought me great healing in my body and mind, but also my home does not have issues with insects. My cat only eats Organic food too and he is a lot more active and loving. Thought this may inspire you.
A lovely video, not that this is super important , however I wanted to mention it haha, I think you are an autumn for colour season for your skin tones and undertones🙂 meaning, your most complimentary colours are autumn colour pallet...so I think anyway 😀A great job with your video and decluttering! I agree, it's hard to move things on when you spend so much time and money acquiring them and you love them...Im similar in that way too! God bless you abundantly !
I have a suggestion on what may have caused the staining around the collar of the white shirts. Sunscreen? In the past I have experienced a weird faint discoloring stair around the collar and arm holes of my shirts and found out it was from sunscreen. Only specific sunscreens do it I think. But maybe do a Google and look into it. It may be the culprit?
Hi Immy, regarding your white tops, I couldn't tell what the stains looked like, but since you mentioned they're in the collar area, if they're yellowish or pinkish, it could be from sunscreen. I had that happen with all my white tops last year, and it was devastating because white tops are my favorite in summer. They all got stained yellow around the collar/collarbone area and on the sleeves, and after trying different methods to get the stains out, some of them turned light pink 😂
i love that you're wearing spf hoodies. would you mind sharing your optionon/experience? hard to imagine for me, that 100 % plastic frabric is wearable in hot summer weather but i hate (re)applying sunscreen all over my body. just too much work ^^ did you wear them during hot days? we had 34° C in my city yesterday :/ and of course - fair made ones are harder to find
The dye pan was overfull! I would try again, but maybe only 1 or 2 tops in a pan that size. It's all about how much the fabric can move throughout the solution - they were quite tightly bundled together, so weren't free moving
Honestly, I've learned that I shouldn't get rid of things that don't fit, as women it is very normal for our weight to fluctuate, and I've regretted some declutters, now I always keep my favorites and it is nice to have some backup clothes for when my weight fluctuates and I don't have to buy a whole new wardrobe. Especially when buying second hand since I find it hard to find things I love, so I when I buy them I will keep them forever. (obviously as long as you have the storage, I limit myself to a box)
Same here! I have fluctuated as much as 4 sizes in my life, and it's just easier to keep clothes at different sizes so you're not buying (what feels like) a whole new wardrobe every time.
Hi Immy! I am an environmental journalist based in Boulder, and have been watching your channel forever! I have a pair of size 6 REI overalls that I embroidered little flowers into to cover an ink stain. They don’t fit me anymore and Ive been trying to get rid of them. If you think they would fit you and your style, I’d love to give them to you! Also no pressure ❤
Do you have a local clothes closet for those in need? We have one for students and one for adults - they get the items for free. It makes it easier to let things go when it's for a good cause.
I have a question imy… how do you « straighten » your hair with soft curls ?? that’s really beautiful I have very curly hair, like you, and I’d like a change frome time to time :))
I'm also an androgynous winter and floral floaty summer gal. I was also so sad when i didn't fit my vintage shorts, but made a faded pair of jeans into shorts for this season. maybe you could do the same with one of your jeans?
Would you ever consider selling the excel template you use or do a video on how you set it up? I would love something like thins but am not grate at setting them up in a useful way :)
honestly the first jumper looks like you wanted it to look that way, the second though... Have you tried Simplicol? You just throw them into the washing machine and it always works splendidly
Really liked this video. Reminds me that I need to declutter but I have so much clothes it's a bit daunting. But nevertheless is was nice seeing your video😊
Keisha... maybe try decluttering just one clothing category per weekend? For example, pants or short sleeved tops. That way you don't get overwhelmed, but you make progress.
I gained a Little weight the last few months, and I hate how jeans immediatly feel too tight if that happens. Luckily I like to wear Wide pants so in a few pairs I have much leeway and wear them with a belt, but my favorite cord pants strangle my thighs now😢
I've had a bad time with rit dye too. My friend works in costumes and says there's better profesh stuff to use. If I ever find the name I'll come back here and post it.
Hi Immy, I would like to see where you sell your clothes online and I love thrifting videos if you are so inclined to replace some of your summer things. If you aren't comfortable filming and talking, you can do a voice over!
Oh my, you seem to have 3times more clothes then I do, and I don't call myself a minimalist... But way to go, thank you for sharing the method you use, and I am so sorry for those brown tshirts not coming out perfect, but they look interesting... you could get one of those textile pens, and try to make some art on them, or just some lines etc.... Good job, anyhow... Hope u'r feeling better after a cold ❤
@@SustainablyVegan if I'm understanding right, Roger Dean is your uncle?? That's crazy! I've been a fan of his art since I found the band about 10 years ago
A busy day like this you need more than a cup of tea. You need to start it with lots of fruit and something sweet and lots of water too otherwise by the end of the day you’re gonna be craving, something really fatty and unhealthy to eat, Carbs FTW!! 💪💪💪
Your body is beautiful, those skirts are not problematic in any way, i find they suit you so well! I do however understand, that you want to get rid of them. Just sometimes we have a very harsh view on ourselves and i just want to give you an outside view of how pretty you really are Immy!!! And please don‘t stop wearing those beautiful tops! Your arms are 100% NORMAL! Lots of love ❤❤❤
My opinion: you look very good in white, but also in black. Warm colors (dark red, orange) seem to suit you more than cold colors. The first pair of white shorts looked very good on you, so did the white long trousers. I would give away / sell a lot of the shorts you have. The second pair of jeans you tried looks very good. I would avoid tops with Disney-like prints or those with words like 'Michigan). Also grey si not giving you anything. I liked the items you have from your mom. PS - as an ACER employee, I' m happy you like the Aspire Vero. Vero is the Green line with several types of products for different needs. Cheers!
So much stuff in my house… it is STUFFOCATING!! I’m just curious to know how you are managing your hobby stuff, Immy, now that you’re into DIYs, repairs, and fabric and fibre hobbies? I have promised myself I will not buy any more storage totes. If my totes are full, then something has to go. AND, of course… I shop my own totes first before buying anything new. Also, I live in the wilderness of northern 🇨🇦 and I have to dress for -40ºc and +40ºc. This means I have a lot of seasonal outdoor clothing in totes, such is the life of a wilderness dweller. Thanks for sharing all your ideas here, I love this community. Ⓜary💕
Dear Immy! I think no one is here to yell at you and say: I though you would never declutter again! :D :D How dare you! Actually I feel a bit like you do about my waredrobe. Du to an cronic illness, the medication I need to fight it back and pure laziness I gained alot of weight in one year. And that never happened to me before. I really love every single item in my wardroabe and it hurts to let half of it go. I feel more insecure now in my body. It's just the way it is.
I wonder if there were just too many shirts in the pot at once, so that's why the dye wasn't even? From the footage the pot looked too full to really properly stir it well to distribute the dye.

I need to do this
I love your necklace, where is it from?
Your arms are so gorgeous though! You look so strong
The checkered overalls that were too short …you could have hemmed them into short length. That would have been adorable.
I wonder if the stains are from sunscreen, I believe that can cause yellowing.
That was a great video!❤
I think that you looked especially lovely in the pinkish floral dress!
I've had a bad time with rit dye too. My friend works in costumes and says there's better profesh stuff to use. If I ever find the name I'll come back here and post it.
For my sentimental tops I cut the design out and put it on a different, bigger, shirt!
That's brilliant!
Hope u'r feeling better after a cold ❤
that blue and white dress is divine on you
Hi from 🇬🇧. I only buy a few things once a year if needed. Most of my clothes are from charity shops. I can get some really good Bargains from there.
Do you sell your decluttered clothes on Poshmark or Depop at all?
peep that Yes mirror to the sky shirt 👀🧡
My uncle designed their logo!
@@SustainablyVegan if I'm understanding right, Roger Dean is your uncle?? That's crazy! I've been a fan of his art since I found the band about 10 years ago
@@blurred-anticsyes! That’s awesome! I love his art too, I’m always in awe of his work
I organically declutter as I see items no longer serve me at home. I am redoing my art section and I have yet to find my vibe yet
A busy day like this you need more than a cup of tea. You need to start it with lots of fruit and something sweet and lots of water too otherwise by the end of the day you’re gonna be craving, something really fatty and unhealthy to eat, Carbs FTW!! 💪💪💪
The first two dresses on you are gorgeous! You suit blue
Where are they from?
Cheers!
Not enough space for the dye. You had a lot of shirts in there the size of the pot really should be for only one shirt.
I've never found a closet or inventory app that does what I want, so I end up doing a spreadsheet instead
😢 Your arms are beautiful. I have same thoughts but when I hear someone else say it with their beautiful arms, it makes me very sad
Love the blue skirt 🥰
I only have one wardrobe I don’t have summer and winter wardrobe so I don’t need to put away or bring out
Wheres your necklace from please 🙏🏻🙏🏻
high five from another comfy/genderless winter and girly/floral summer wardrobe person! ✋
🥰👋🏻
Ⓜary💕
I recently counted all my dresses. There were 50.
Wish there wasn’t music as you speak but I understand people love to have it on 24/7.
Stop rubbing it in that it's warm over there :D *looks out of UK window at pouring rain whilst under a blanket*
Your accent is a tiny bit more American now 😁
