Very Rare #6 Parker Vise Repair. Hand fitting the new Jaws!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 кві 2023
- This old number 6 Parker vise is the biggest one I have every seen. This big guy needed a new set of jaws cut and hand fitted and I took the job. In this video I finish up the fitting on the metal shaper and show some new tools that I recently picked up for the shop.

Great to see you my friend. Shapers are our lost machines that sit colecting dust and that is a true shame. That is one fine fit Steve.
I for one loves the variety of projects, buildings, machining, cars, dogs and squirrels.
Son! You gotta showcase Ms. Elizabeth’s truck build!!!!! That’s a great truck, she definitely made the right choice.
When Steve said Elizabeth picked out a truck, I thought crew cab dully. When Steve showed the truck I fell out of my chair. Well done girl.
That is just the kind of lady's wee runabout I was imagining Elizabeth in..............Best to your Mother with her recovery. Thanks for posting.
I prayed for you, your mother and your family.
God bless you all!
This is Bill using my wife's phone.
Love the new truck. Can't wait to see the progress.
Will keep your mother in my prayers.
Love your channel and the content!!!!
Also can't wait to see more of the DoAll saw.
Seeing the big horisontal saw is going to be a blast. Your girl has always been really supportive. You are taking things along that are needed in your world so keep on keeping on my friend. Take care eh.
I love the variety of your channel Steve! Between building trucks, metal work, and deconstruction and reconstruction, you got on all the topics that interest me. And along the way, I’m learning new things from you. Keep up the hard work, I appreciate all your effort.
Glad to hear your mom is going to be OK. That can be a devastating injury for a older person. Tell her to take it easy and have a speedy recovery.
Great job on the vice jaws, and wow I am so looking forward to the work on Elizabeth's truck. She has great taste!
I smiled when you said about a truck for Elizabeth. Got that impression one would be on the horizon as Elizabeth was so taken with your truck Steve. Lots of interesting videos to look forward to with the Doall bandsaw as well. Thank you for all the great content.
So excited to hear that the Do-All bandsaw is back on the agenda - it was that project that first hooked me on your channel. It'll be interesting to see how the time spent under a tarp has affected the work you did back then.
Great to hear your Mom is doing so much better. Praying for a speedy recovery.
Was very impressed with those blocks😮.
Nice buy.
Can't wait to see the progress on the new truck. Keep up the great work.
As a motor/gear head, I really enjoy when your videos are mechanical in nature. As a retired mason/ construction worker, I really enjoy the videos that are construction related. As a retiree, I’m enjoying learning a new craft of machining, so that part is alright too. So whatever you decide to share with us is going to go along great with my Saturday morning coffee. I’m looking forward to seeing a new series on how to rebuild a square body 1 ton crew cab hauler.
Keep em coming. Glad to hear that your mother is doing well
Hope mom is doing good. Thanks for inviting us along. Always a great Saturday starting off with another great video. Thanks.
Whish your mum well and I hope she has a speedy recovery, looking forward to seeing the Dollall saw being finished and don't mind the truck content at all.
Hey, Steve! Also glad to hear that your Mom is on the mend! I have to say that your content rebuilding the shop, and rebuilding the truck were the most enjoyable for both my wife and I to watch; I've never seen you smile so big, or so often! Please, please, please consider taking Elizabeth's truck to a level of restoration that makes you both happy, and please, please, please film every moment, like you did with yours - it's the best way to guarantee that my wife will watch with me! 😍
Great to see you back. Very sad to hear about your Mom but glad to hear that she is back on her feet. Looking forward to seeing anything on that new Chevy beast!
Congrats to Elizabeth on the new truck, I'd like to see as much as you're willing to share
Love the dually! It's going to be a great build. Please chare what you can when you can! Thank you.
Glad to hear your Mom is back up and about, that must have been painful. My dad passed 5 years ago. He was in auto parts in the 1960's, I think he would have been impressed by your pickup rebuild, especially the attention put into getting the engine assembly just right, it would have made for some good conversation. My mum is 79 this year, and slowing down quickly. I guess my point is: make the most of the time you have left. Greetings from down under (Adelaide, Australia).
Elizabeth picked a great truck. I would love to find one just like that and is complete. It would make a perfect shop truck. I also bought a bottle of your buddy's hot sauce. I put some on my tacos. The tacos immediately caught fire, the plate melted and I now have a hole in my kitchen counter. That stuff is hot!
Family first, no question about that. Glad to hear your mom is recovering well. That will be quite the truck when you are done with it.
Best wishes to Mamma Summers for a quick recovery.
A variety of topics is a good thing. Especially if it keeps you excited and enthusiastic. After all, that is what makes the show.
We fully understand that family comes first, Steve. Great to see some old iron (both the vise and the "new" truck) being taken care of. And thank you for spending the time to make the Saturday morning machining videos. Best from Norway.
Take Care of Your Family First. Mom will be in our prayers also. I’m looking forward to your next time. Prayers and blessings
Unreal craftsmanship!!! Great work 👍 thanks for sharing
Best wishes to your mom for a speedy recovery (been on that page) .......cheers
How do you spell satisfied, , , , , "Lets go to Steve's Shop" LOL. I sure agree on weathering these jaws. They draw the eye away and just look out of place or an afterthought. I am sure looking forward to seeing the big saw come back to life. I have been wondering about it for some time now. Elizabeth chose a couple fine things. That new truck is common sense for you folks and she got herself a fine fella too boot. I am a real fan of these digital mic's. I bought my first one when I left machining school to my very first job as a machinist back in the late 70's. You chose these new tools very well. Sorry to hear about your mom. I have really bad osteoporosis and have broken both legs in short falls transferring from recliner to my wheelchair. These old bones just haven't got what it takes anymore. Awesome post Steve. Watching you fit those vice jaws was a real pleasure. That is being a machinist. Take care and hope to see you soon my friend.
My Grandma(96) is going through the same thing right now. Also, the majority of us will stick around no matter the content. That new project truck is killer!
Good to see another great video. Yes, family is first! Good choice on the new truck ❤. Shop work is STRESS RELIEF**** George from Indiana
BROTHER!!!!!! Super excited about the Crew Cab project! I'll be doing the HRPT again this year. Hopefully you'll be able to get out to one of the events. Bristol isn't tooo terribly far.
Good to hear she's OK, it is not easy to breake anything when you have a few years behind you. Wishing her a speedy recovery! Sweet truck! I have to say, Elizabeth has a really good taste when it comes to trucks! Good to hear from you as well, thanks for sharing and take care!!
Morning Steve! Thanks for using the shaper 😅
This little series of vice jaw videos made me realize that a shaper does have a place in todays hobby machine shop. I've had a lathe , and a milling machine, for over a decade now and never saw the usefulness of a shaper...but finally, I've seen the light. There are certain things that a shaper can do fairly easily that no modern machine can do without some serious working around. If the right. lightly used, shaper appeared into my life, I'd just have to buy it.
I have a 16 inch heavy duty Cincinnati shaper with the vise, and the universal table, that is for sale. I’m located about an hour east of Amarillo, Texas. If you’re interested just respond to me here on UA-cam. We can go from there.
@@ssmt2 It's a bit too far for me. I'm in east TN.
@@marcellemay7721 That would be a bit of a drive for one machine. Hopefully you’ll find one closer to home.
I will enjoy following along with the truck build. It'll be a great machine
I am super excited to see that horizontal do all band saw build come back. That was the series that got me into this channel.
I, for one, am looking forward to Elizabeth's truck build.
Nice work on the Parker…I have two Parker vises…awesome new truck congrats, family first!
Best wishes to your mother Steve. Looking forward to the new truck restoration!
Love the old vice. They are sure bring high dollar values these days. The blocks were impressive. I had not expected that degree of precision. Thanks for sharing.
Count me in as interested in the new truck!
Gotta love LS swaps. I'm working on number 43 right now. I have done 5 or 6 square body swaps. Get well soon to your mother.
Life and family always comes first.
Our very best to your Momma for a rapid recovery, Steve.
Enjoyed this episode very much, can't wait for more on the bandsaw, and Elizabeth's new truck (awesome).
That's a lovely old vice. Looking forward to finally seeing the DoAll bandsaw being finished.
I can’t speak for anyone else but I would love to see the details on Elizebeth’s truck being restored.🌴👍👍😎🌴
I did not see that choice of a truck coming. Its awesome i cant wait to see you guys tear into it
My dad had a 3+3 1 ton two wheel drive 1979 GMC Crew cab. Bought it new for around 13500$ new. It had a 454 / 4 barrel. Great working truck. It had two fuel tanks gas.
All the best for your mother. Greetings from germany.
I defiantly think you should post a once month video maybe mid week or something with the truck updates and work on it. I really enjoyed the truck videos because it brought back many me memories of doing the same in the past. But I also feel many many people feel the same about all your videos not just the machining.
I’m looking forward to the truck content. Looks like a great project
I would be happy to see you doing some work on the new truck.
Happy Saturday Steve, Cora and Grits! Glad your Mom is OK,we can al relate to ageing parents. Good job on the vise jaws, your skill level grows with each different project. Thanks for bringing us along. You'll is gonna have fun with that dually, Elizabeth will be proud as punch when pulling up to a happening. Thanks for taking the time to share, God bless!
Really cool she got her truck can't wait to see what all u guys do to it
I would love to see the full out restoration on the new truck. That is my dream truck, full size HD. I have a full size Supper Cab F150 But I would love a Full Size F350 or a Chev/GMC K3500 Your wife chose an awesome ride, she has you beat.
She 100% has me beat😁.
I did whisper in her ear how cool a crew cab dually would be. 😎
@@SteveSummers 😂
@@SteveSummers so that's what pillow talk is about 😎
That shaper sounded like a well tuned string section playing a waltz.
Looking forward to the DoAll bansaw project hitting the shop again.
Would happily watch you rebuild the Silverado.
I just love the sound of that very light cut on that shaper.
Best wishes for Mom. Take care.
A fun one to watch, thanks for sharing!
DoAll Bandsaw FTW!
Been hanging on, waiting...
I was surprised that you didn't close the vise to see how the faces mated after you fitted the new jaws.
Great video 👍 Elizabeth struck gold on the truck gotta put some rust treatment in the doors and cavities etc.
Hi Steve, hope your mom heals quickly. That has to be a terrible experience, but a real concern as we get older. Elizabeth's truck is a beauty! Should run great and give you good service with the powerplant you've chosen. I would like see updates periodically as you bring it back to life. Thanks for the video!
Next project, even before the pick up, is to have a front canopy over the shop, so that you can park both vehicles there, sort of sheltered, and strong enough to walk on and to shed snow creek side. Best regards to your mother, those wounds do not heal easy, and she will need a little TLC even more so now.
With a concrete apron so you can work on vehicles and not laying on your back in stones. It would make a nice wash area too.
Well done Steve and I’m so glad your mum is on the mend. At her age those sort of accidents can be very dangerous. Go Elizabeth, I would never have pick her a dually girl. A lot of people are intimidated to drive them so her choice did surprise me. I can’t wait to see the videos of the progress you two make just like I really enjoyed watching Steve build his truck. I hope you paint it, even if it’s with just a roller, as that would improve the look heaps. Cheers guys, Stuart 🇦🇺
Don’t forget cruising the coast in Mississippi!
So good to see you! You've been missed. I *totally* relate to the chaos as well as having MOM in trouble!! Glad she's already up and around - she sounds tough like my mom was. LOVE that new truck - WTG Elizabeth! I look forward to seeing your direction on it! Fun to see the shaper in use - brings back a LOT of old memories. The new 2/4/6 blocks ARE impressive! We live in an age of wonder. Seeing you interacting with Cora is always sweet. Def some quality content. Thanks for making my morning> 😃
My 2001 2500 Suburban has the same engine transmission combo and it pulls great. The old girl has well over 250000 miles on it. Still kickn'. I'm replacing the control arms this year and maybe body mounts.
They were great engines . 4.8 5.3 6.0 lasted really well and were capable of handling power adders without much or any changes to the bottom end. 200k miles + is not uncommon at all if they had a oil change or two
Thank you for sharing. 👍
Great to hear things are better for your Mom and family. I hope she has a speedy recovery. I think that will be a cool truck! Everybody needs a 3/4 to 1 ton. I hate having to borrow stuff. It's nice that you are getting back to the Do-All Band saw. I wasn't sure that was ever coming back. Great to see you getting all the projects done. I wish I could do that! Keep up the great work!
good lord glad to hear your mom is doing okay
look forward to the truck build and finishing the band saw
I would love to see the progress and some of the work on the truck as I'm sure lots of others would.
You need to do videos on that truck, looks really cool.
SOO HAPPY 😊 I was just rewatching those bandsaw videos a second time cuz i was wondering what happened with it. Even recently left some encouragement to continue the project so I think it would be great to see you pick it up again .
While I was also one of the many who voiced in favor of rebuilding your truck, I believe you have a great talent for rebuilding machines & the necessary video sense to film + edit the work you do in a way that both show cases it and makes viewers feel like they are along for the ride.
Hello Steve, can’t wait to see the bandsaw come back together. The truck that Elisabeth picked out is going to be awesome. Can’t wait for all your future content!
the Do-All bandsaw was the first video I watched on this channel years ago.
I'm glad you mom is on the way to recovery UA-cam 2nd place in my books Ace video best wishes to all :-)
Steve, E's new truck is awesome! Loved seeing you fit the vise jaws to the vise with the shaper. Hope your mom recovers quickly.
I was wonder about that bandsaw for awhile good to hear its coming back. My experiance with cheap 1,2,3 and 2,4,6 blocks is they are pretty accurate. I dont even bother with the more exspensive ones. Not that i have a need for the more exspensive ones anyway.
I am very interested in the truck stuff as well as the machining vids. Your truck rebuild helped me start my 1991 GMC Jimmy rebuild. I am in Maine rust is part of every vehicle older than 3 years old
I found one of those in a steel recycling yard. They gave it to me I completely refurbished it
I would not have guessed that Elizabeth would want a dually crew cab, but it looks like you found a real cherry of a truck! Looking forward to seeing the progress of this project.
very good job Steve
Excited to see the pick up project. Hope your mum gets better soon.👍
Sorry to hear that your Mum had taken a fall, hope she gets well soon. Awesome pick-up truck.
You better do the dually as good if not better than with you did on your truck your wife deserves it she was right there supporting you with your truck
Would love to see you do the complete truck, like you did to yours!
I like that very much that you plan to continue on the bandsaw. 👍
But I fully understand that the shop took precedence over that. Looking forward to that!
Omg the DoAll saw is still around! I was thinking you must have swapped it for another machine at some stage, Im looking forward to seeing you work on that beast again.
Steve, given time those jaws will “weather” just fine !
I have a Mitutoyo vernier gauge, just adds a little class to guessing !
You need to hook up with Vice Grip Garage to bring that crew cab back to show condition.
Tejas steelworks for the ls engine/transmission mounts……switch suspensions 6/8 bolt in kit for the drop…..lowboy motorsports for the 22” alcoa tuck wheel setup
