- Aaron shows you how to use the memory recall function for video on the: Sony RX100 IV, RX100 V, RX100 VA, RX100 VI, RX100 VII. This also applies to the Sony Alpha A6400 and A6600.
The Memory Recall function is a very powerful function for videographers. However, it isn't explained well in the manual and can be confusing. Aaron explains it completely for you, including the mysterious M1, M2, M3, etc. settings.

Your work on this video has a great sense, very useful to see it explained so deeply here. As a new owner of RX-100 I found out that is impossible to preset the camera from setting to shoot static scene (low iso, single shoot drive, AF-S, ...) to dynamic scene (short time, AF-C, high iso, continuous shoot drive, ...) fast enough to be able to catch the unexpected moment (like running animal in the forest, ....). I tried to use the MR functionality and intuitive found some ways, but this your complete coverage helped me to understand it completely and fast.
Thanks for the vid! It was a little confusing before watching your video. This will make it a lot easier so my gf can switch back and forth from stills to video (since the settings are saved independently for each mode like my Canon is).
Many thanks, Aaron. Sony should employ you to explain what they don't.
This is going to revolutionise how I use this camera. Thank you so much!!!
Many thanks! Really excellent, clear, seemingly complete explanation of the memory save/recall function in these cams. Much appreciated, and keep it up!
Many thanks - very clearly explained. Had been trying to work out how these functions work on my RX10Mk4. Now I know!
Just got the mark 3 version. great video thanks.
Thanks. Just what I was looking for
Thank you for such a clear explanation!
Very clear explanation, thanks!
Thanks for this, Aaron, it is just the sort of careful exploration of procedure that one might expect of someone who spends time where procedure and survival are closely linked. I have the RX10 IV so I will have to go through this on my camera and see how much overlap exists. I am having trouble "holding" settings, and I think that your procedures may be the key to unlocking what Sony (or White) have failed to provide. I read a lot of expeditionary accounts and I will add your output to my reading list. Currently I am reading Joan Druett's book ISLAND OF THE LOST - inadvertent expeditioneering.
Very nice explanation. Thank you.
This is great. Thanks for putting this together.
Y E S thank you so much! The VA is absolutely superb!!
So cool! I didn't know I can save photo settings also aside from video settings!
omg! thanks so much! this is the best tutorial about MR!
