Usnea is prolific here in Nova Scotia. It makes me so happy to see it, to your point of it being an indicator of the air quality. I've made double-extract tincture and purple dye from it.
@@maheway7880 Chop dried usnea into fine bits and put into oil. I used coconut oil. You can either let it sit for 6 weeks to infuse the oil or I did a double boiler low heat method for a quicker infusion. Did it in a crockpot on low, lid off for avout 4 hours. Strain the oil and for every 3 ounces of oil add 0.5 ounces of beeswax to make a salve. Heat oil and beeswax slowly in a double boiler until the beeswax is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let it cool down a tad. I added drops of tea tree essential oil, oregano essential oil and a bit of raw honey. Sorry, I don't count or measure. Mix well and either transfer to smaller jars or keep in the jar you used to make it. Usnea alone would suffice for an antibiotic ointment. Adding the other things was my way of upping the potency.
@@reibersue4845 thanks dear where i live there is no usnea physically , so i bought usnea extract i suppose to add them usnea drops into beeswax iguess
Gee if I ever head out west I'll be sure to keep an eye out for that stuff

Nice to know you are benefiting from this magnificent lichen!! Thanks for sharing!!!!
There is a variety that grows in deep East Texas too .
Awesome!!!!
Oh I need to put this on my task list to collect and tincture! 😊
It stops a sore throat right at the onset - a definite must have in the home apothecary!!
It's an incredible antibiotic for upper respiratory! Anything from the chest up! Better than pharmaceutical or over the counter anything!
