    Second tip. Do NOT build a secret door that opens and closes by itself because it would take too long during a break-in of a robbery home invasion for the door to open and close. Instead build a door that you can open and close with your hand like any regular door so you can control the speed of opening and shutting the door. Also, make sure to put padding where the door makes contact with the wall along the edges so it will not make a banging sound if you are trying to hide in it during a robbery and not give away to robbers you have run into that space during an invasion.

    A couple of hints from from an old long time security builder.....1). Install your latch/key onto somewhere other than the secret door itself.- 2). Use stainless piano hinge for large swinging shelves/bookcases along with white rubber caster under opposite side. 3). Always make a hiding place inside of your hiding place. 6:43 the staircase that can transform into a ramp looks like a great idea to increase wheelchair access when there isn't space for a conventional ramp :D the depth of the stairs makes the slope longer which makes it more usable for wheelchairs etc. Also might make it easier for ambulance gurneys to more smoothly take and injured or sick person out of the building.

    I feel like the secret doors that require like doing 3 things and then waiting for it to slowly open and such are kinda missing the point. The security comes from the stealth, not whatever locks and secret steps and such you put in place on it like a traditional vault. All you really need is the ability to deadbolt it from inside. That way you can minimize the amount of time and effort it takes to get into the room and then maximize the amount of security you would have once inside. Even if it's trivial to open normally even potentially by accident, that doesn't really matter because once you deadbolt it in place, the fact that it looks like another random wall or bookshelf will only further be enhanced since they can no longer actually open it.

    One tip of advice if you will build a hidden room, if you have kids don't tell them about the hidden room/s because kids can NOT keep a secret and they will eventually blurt out the secret to everyone outside the house. Instead, keep the hidden room a secret from your kids and if an emergency occurs, have blindfolds ready to put on your kids so that when you bring your kids to the room during lets say a break-in, the kids won't know where you are bringing them into with the blindfolds on. Then, when it's time to bring the kids out of the hidden room in which you MUST all remain silent during the break-in, put the blindfolds back on your kids and remove the blindfolds when you have walk far away from the hidden room on exit of it.

    • @darlenebattle2713

    • @ruffxm
      @ruffxm Рік тому +7

      Yes, because in addition to one random home invasion, you'd want to keep the room a secret from your kids in case of a second random home invasion. And in your wild dreams, do you actually think you'd have time to grab blindfolds, wake your kids, place them on each kid, guide them to the entrance of the secret room, then guide them down a staircase or ladder? And no one will ever hear you creaking across the floor to the secret room location while making sure each kid doesn't bump into a wall. Your fantasy must include a real inept home-invader, because how long do you think it takes someone to break into a home through a door or window? A minute tops. Yeah, ok. Someone's watching too many movies.

    • @CrypticCobra
      @CrypticCobra Рік тому +4

      If you are mid break in and have the thought to go get the blindfold to protect the secret from your kid, you need to SERIOUSLY rethink your priorities. At that point just grab the kid and take him to the room. God forbid he tells someone AFTER the intended purpose was utilized.

    • @CrypticCobra
      @CrypticCobra Рік тому

      Chances are you're going to tell the police about the safe room anyway post break in, and that will get documented into a report. A report that could be pulled via an open records request.
      Also bet you will feel stupid when their is a break in while your kid is home alone and ends up dead when you could have told him where to hide.

    Most of these hidden things.. are electric operated.. What would happen, if our power grid, went off line for a year or two? Is their a back up plan, to get these electrical doors and steps open, without electricity...??

    I wouldn't show any of this to anyone. Then it's not a secret anymore. It's like Mark Twain said: Three men can keep a secret if two of them are dead.

      Sure, and does that matter at all? can you break into any one of these peoples homes and know where the hidden room is? no, because you have no idea where any of this was filmed.

    No secondary exit in case of fire ... or weather catastrophes - to me, that is scary. Other than that, these secret areas are very cool.

    3:19 does anyone know where I can get this type of hinge system. I am looking to do a concealed door and I want the wood to overlap one another thus making it almost impossible for regular hinges to work. I want this to be a hidden feature in my custom cabinetry Just like you see in this part of the video where there is an over hange on both the right and left.

    But, is it practical? @7"00, Movement of the Rollerwheels will eventually scar the floor, indicating where the hidden door is.

    Recessed bookshelves built flush into walls are as suss as. Police always find them as would a smart house breaker, they usually sit against a wall so to a observant eye don't look right.
