      They are wonderful ideas BUT!
1.- Almost all of them look difficult to clean if not hiring a professional and maybe with their help it's a 50% probability that it will malfunction or break. (Especially the Cardboard furniture, maybe someone drop a drink)
2.- I wonder if it really convenient, I live close to the sea so all kinds of metals get rusty in 4 to 5 months (even when using a special spray to protect them)
I love how practical they seemed but if they will cost me more money then what there are useful... I will not buy them 😅
Edit: another thing are they pet and/or child friendly? 😅
How about how much weight can the furniture support? I have many overweight cousins 😅
How about disability? Example: a blind person will have trouble with the furniture becase they have sharp edges
What happens if I need a Orthopedic mattress will it fit?

I love the Murphy bed ideas. Hubby and I downsized to a 3 bed home now that we've retired. I love it except that we both have hobbies that take up a whole room each, and our daughter likes to come visit us for a few days every month. As she needs a bed it takes up a lot of room in the small bedrooms. But I can have a murphy bed for her and still be able to have a sewing room when she's not visiting. Just brilliant. And the stairs are a game changer.

Additionally, most of these murphy beds need to be built in so they don't fall over when pulling the bed down, so impractical for rental spaces. If you can even find a manufacturer. If you are handy and have some cash you can do some ingenious ikea hacks.

I was in the critical care unit in the hospital following surgery, and it had one of these hide-a-loos. It was so confusing at first. The nurse said something about the bathroom, and I looked around the room, and there were no doors, save the entrance. I finally asked, and she pointed at the sink, and I was still confused. She had to pull the toilet out and show it to me. I thought it was a great idea.

Love these modular pieces! My daughter lives in a very small, second floor apartment that’s housed in a 100+ yr old brick building. There is no dining table or chairs, couch, bookshelves or any type of built-in drawers. The bathroom is accessed through the bedroom. Have seen the horizontal Murphy beds which convert into a desk/bookshelves. Any of these would be wonderful for her needs!

Me, too, about four years ago. Yes, it's a great idea, but a little awkward at first. I like the old roomettes on the sleeper cars on the train. The back of the loo folded down to reveal a sink. When I finished using the sink, I folded it up and the water drained into the tank of the toilet ready for the next flush.

    • @francoiseprecheur2222

@@pegatheetoo1437 : I had the exact same thought. There is an absurdity with this furniture: logic would dictate that they are bought by people living in small apartments (i.e. cheap apartments, for people with modest incomes). People who have large financial means generally stay in large apartments. They therefore have no need for this type of furniture which is extremely expensive and which they can afford to buy!

    I. Love these they are lovely, luxurious, practical. And idial. If I turn my recent home in 6 small office apartments. Including the toilet and shower area would make it a perfect fit. I wanted to built a loft in each. But that could give that a extra room for each. For a guest. Now what the cost could be, planning it and saw it can be done. I do not believe in debt. So I nead to save money to make such reality. To put my vision in practice. I also need to modernize the outside to fit these. Even become a show case for such would be wonderful in 🇿🇦

Next I placed a shett of plywood across the whole thing and placed my mattress on top. It was not fancy inside , but it did have a ton of storage and i lived in a very tiny space back then. I had a 3 step step ladder to get on the bed. id like this one if i had any money and it was available in the USA

Try living in London. Or some other cities, where the prices of small apartments are insane. You REALLY think different about this then. A house with an extra room can easily cost you 300.000,- Pounds more! It's insane. Compared to that, even a 5.000,- Pound piece of furniture gets to be affordable.

    • @AtMyBorders

@@gardenjoy5223 You definetly know everything about my personnal situation and with the very low price of a decent rental in my own european small town of Paris, please be assured that I could never have encountered a comparable situation that would give me reasons to say this.
Irony aside : many of these items, including the two I quoted, are used for punctual space problems that can occurs when treating guests and you do not have enough regular arrangements for seating or sleeping. They do not offer a solution to more lengthy space problems like the ones occuring when living in a small appartement for example. And this is what I mean when I say someone who NEED space won't find it satisfactory to spend their money on these costly solutions. Because, in my opinion, they do not apply or the price isn't worth the comparative space gain.

If someone is upstairs they could fall to the first floor if the don’t notice the stairs are folded into the wall (maybe a roommate or family member folded it away) or if they have to crouch down to unfold the stairs and lose balance they could fall. I think the reason the video only shows people unfolding the stairs from the bottom is because of how dangerous this could be for someone at the top.

I don’t understand why designers don’t make Murphy beds to pull out horizontally rather than vertically. Some one might have 80” (the length of a queen size bed) horizontally but not vertically. I would really benefit in my space by having a single sized Murphy but oriented to pull down horizontally. I only have one room to live in and because of that I am always sitting on my bed rather then being able to have a chair. It’s very uncomfortable. Give it some thought designers. A nice thick mattress that disappears into a beautiful cherry wood cabinet with armoire on each side to hang clothes would be such a blessing.

Near the end I saw one with a padded matching headboard and realized that I could have my own fabulous oak headboard and colour paint and decorations. Then the table that stays level means that the whole rest of it could have my present set up. So it stopped looking just plain old white. A good marketing idea would be snap shots of different classic bedrooms reflected with the same mechanics.

At 3:50, it's the most funny idea. But at 7:40 it's my favorite idea. A little dinnig table teenage style/city life.

Got to be honest, most of these designs are overengineered and with so many problems, and to top that off, very very very expensive, but I appreciate the creativity and craftsmanship of them.

I rate the “Shrinkable Sofa” by Daniel Chiriac, the “Sofa Bunk Bed” by Expand Furniture, and the “Folding Stairs” by BCompact (Zev Bianchi) a one-hundred-out-of-one-hundred for me.

The folding stairs has got to be my second favorite and the table that extends would be more our taste if it was more wood grain instead white or black shiny laminate I love the concept just not the finish for farmhouse decor ❤😂
