Honestly I’ve been thinking about doing a whole video just comedically ranting about all the terrible stuff the last owner did hahaha. Most of it is just so “what were they thinking”

Yeah the back and side angles are way better than the front in my opinion. Just way more defined

Hey watching the videos. Fixing my mr2 up also. If you want a $ saving tip. The plastic parts that break try plastic welding. Just fixed my headlights bezel the other day. It's like a soldering iron only melting the plastic together. The kit was about $15. Good luck enjoy

Awesome vid! And if that rod is still giving you trouble you can try heating it with a small butane torch then tighten it then loosen the nut and keep doing that till its free
Yeah heat is a good idea. Else I just have to take the whole thing out from the other side
Yeah if the heat doesn't work then that might be your last option either way good luck!
The random connector may be just for some optional extra or a thing that the car does not have, my celica has one near the firewall wire passtrough and also one near the battery
That’s true. My other thought is with where it is placed it may be related to the old stock air intake system that was replaced. If that is the case then I hope it’s not something that drastically affects how the engine runs. But again it can’t be that important since the engine seems to run fine from what I can tell

Recently found your channel and it's crazy how similar our mr2 plans are! I also got mine back in August and have also been slowly restoring it on a budget but I'm doing everything mechanical first before I work on cosmetics. It's actually my 2nd aw11, first one I had for over 4 years but was almost forced to sell it as it was in an accident that totaled the car. Cost way too much to repair. On that car I actually swapped a 20v silvertop which was awesome but there's something about keeping that stock 4age that makes it special, which is what I plan on doing on my new mr2. You should really try and find the stock intake when you can, it'll really complete the overall restoration look of the car as you've already done such an amazing job with the interior! Really looking forward to seeing how the car turns out as I really like your overall vision of keeping it stock while putting your own unique flair like you did with the painted wheels and patches on the seats. Yeah as I drive the car I do really enjoy the stock 4age. And yeah I wish I had the original intake but it’s not a priority at the time to revert as of now. I will say I may have to do some big engine work sooner than planned as it runs fine but burns a lot of oil. I still need to do a compression test but I’m hoping it’s just some valve stem seals. Whenever I drive the car something else wrong happens haha. I’d just do a full rebuild if I could afford it. But I also wanna drive it at least a bit hahaha. I’m glad the retro stuff is still getting views and I honestly wish I could do more of them. I’ve just been so busy with school and work that I can only focus on car video stuff at the moment. Yeah I agree it’d gain me more traction but tbh I don’t want this channel to just become an MR2 build channel. Now granted it is a big part of what I do right now but it is still my “side series” to my other stuff. Obviously most my recent videos have been MR2 ones lately but I’ve been super busy wrapping up school to do my more serious stuff is why.

Previous owner could get one "new" from junkyard when old worn out or he lost it and i think he didn´t know this new must be oriented correctly, but I just assume that.
Yeah I guess that makes the most sense. Just so many questions. But when you have a car that’s 30 years old and clearly been passed around, what can you really expect.
Damn, steep price on the exhaust. Can't help but think you got ripped off a bit. I would've guessed adding a O2 bung would've been like 60$. Did they do a lot of additional work? e: Since there is an exhaust leak too, I feel like you should ask for a compensation / have them fix it on their dime.
Yeahhhh kinda why I mentioned last video I wanna avoid shop work when I can. They did clean up the exhaust and muffler pieces well since they had lots of gunk on them and slight surface rust. Other than that they also had to remove the old exhaust and install and fit the new one. If I did it over I probably woulda just brought the single pipe and asked them to just weld the flange and nothing else. Then I’d install it all myself. Oh well what can you do
Yea I think 600$ can buy a brand new "after market" exhaust like from a parts store...

Oh yeah I remember you hahahaha. That’s actually hilarious you found this. Yeah the whole last owner thing has just become a running joke at this point haha, and it is very clear this car has just had abuse it’s whole life vs just from your friend.

hey did that grease work for the t top seals I own an aw11 and it has 2 leaks from the seals, just want to know if it was worth the purchase for the grease

@@RetraCast I’ll do that. Part number for the adjusting screw is 81131-17010. I had just ordered all new sealed beam retaining rings (81111-16020) and screws for mine for a fresh install after paint.
have a look at channel Resto Nation as he does a full coolant change and always use Toyota coolant not any other brand

Also I will say as a first car these probably aren’t the best option if I’m being honest. Most affordable ones are trashed and aren’t the easiest to work on sometimes. Plus the amount of people I hear crashing their MR2s is making these rarer and rarer. They are very fun cars but also very easy to get carried away with driving faster or harder than you are ready for. Experience is everything in driving so if you get one take it easy and save one of these and yourself. Either way though they are great cars but just giving honest thoughts as a first car. Just be smart and ready to work on it.
The windows don’t seal good it happens on mine too that might be why the seats are so bad
Where did you order the t top guides because I just recently got a Same generation mr2 and the t top is leaking and I feel that if I got those guides and new seals I could fix the problem

Don't do a swap....those 4age has a great potential.. just put in on a little turbo low boost and still healthy daily driver😉
Nah bad idea, 4age is a high range engine, sure adding a turbo is gonna highlight its "happy range" but your neglecting the low ends. The car is made to steer, adding a turbo is gonna make it unstable even if its slight.
Dont treat it like a civic, treat it like a mclaren, maybe a porsche.
A small centrifugal is perfect for the thing, a tiny plus for the highends and a big upgrade for the bottom, making the engine balanced. Discount SC
600$... thats way too much, i bought a trd genuine catback for my zzw30 from yahooauctionjapan for $300, sounds better than stock and it is stainless so rust free.
Yeahhh. I explained in another comment but I think they just got carried away doing too much extra work like cleaning out the exhaust pieces. I mean it does all look nice now but I really shoulda just had them weld the flange and installed the stuff myself.
Working on cars please dont put parts of the body to work on items. It scratches the paint and dent it when it was completely unnecessary. Take you part to a bench or cardboard on the floor. Go to harbor freight and get those foam floor squares. I use those for engine rebuilds, glass parts, etc. I love old cars and like to keep it original as possible without painting it. I see a lot of people work on parts on the trunk and it hurts to see. Also if you do work for others later on, it shows you really care for thier property and take care of it.
Also putting tools on the cowl or fender area leaves scratches and opens a chance to crack the windshield. Putting tools on a cart or the floor away from the car shows professionalism.

Yeah as someone who works on lots of cars both nice and beat, I do agree being careful. But this car is definitely in full need of a repaint and body work anyways. I’m not sure if you’ve seen the previous videos or not but the last owner did a terrible plasti dip spray job on the car that I’ve slowly been removing. The paint beneath is worn through with white patches in spots and has dings and dents throughout.
So yes I totally agree it’s not the best practice, but this (unfortunately) is a very rough project car. That being said I am planning on doing the body work and repainting it in the future after getting some more of the mechanical work taken care of. So I’m excited to someday see it as good as new, like it deserves to be. Rather than this sad neglected state.
