i would just like to add an important side note to this particularly at like 3:50 ish
autohop doesnt really make bhopping that much easier, scrollwheeling is pretty effective. What autohop actually does is remove an rng factor that is caused by the way the engine interprets keystrokes or scrollwheel strokes, being that every tick of the game can only register one action but a scrollwheel in its entirety includes 2 actions in the code, a +jump and then a -jump
this rng factor leads to completely uncontrollable loss of speed and can ruin runs entirely, and no amount of practice or skill can overcome this, thus in most of the bhop speedrunning community, they decided to create autohop to remove this rng factor and make bhop actually rely more on pure skill because with the more accurate timings meant people can achieve higher speeds and need to maintain them with insanely precise aiming throughout a whole run. this all lead to more competition, skill, and entertainment from bhop speedruns and actually probably made it harder for worse players to get in to, but i still think is definitely a benefit to bhopping as a whole for good and bad players.

i think what you really had to add is the difference in
air acceleration. in matchmaking for example, on official servers
even in 1.6 you always have 10aa, which doesnt let you strafe
easily in the air. only dedicated servers with set scripts, specifically
for surf, or bhop, or kz will have 100aa, which lets you strafe easier
in the air, and also lets you make turns during crouch.
