      Why didn’t you get a transom saver for the motor? Those straps are putting a lot of stress on your transom. My neighbor bought his transom saver, because he travels a lot with his 16 footer. I bought one for my boat too, just to take away the stress on the transom. I really like what you did with your boat.

    I did some of the same, I liked the idea of a long shaft so I rebuilt the transom to a long shift I found a friend that bought a 18' for upgrades to what he has. Because I helped with the parts boat he gave me the transom, 2 1/2" thick, I replaced my 15" with a long shaft beefed up the boat and went up 10 Hp. Works good I get 8 MPH more and I don't have to open to WOT , I get better fuel economy and think the motor will last longer.

    That's a good motor, you will get better performance and speed if the cavitation plate of the motor is flush with the bottom boat. Have you thought about installing a jack plate to lift the motor up? Since it's a long shaft.

    • @Outdoor-Tactics
      @Outdoor-Tactics  3 роки тому

      You’re not wrong, I’ve definitely thought about it. But the plan is to move the motor onto a boat made for a long shaft in the near future, and I haven’t really noticed any lack of speed while running up and down lakes. Or at least not enough to make me look for a solution.

    I hope yours lasts longer than mine did. My plywood started warping and delaminating after only 3 years. I had sealed both sides and the edges with marine varnish and then covered it with carpet like yours. I had it secured with screws every 8 inches, so I thought everything was weatherproof and I left it uncovered outside. Looking back I wish I had bought a cover for it, but the fact that they only last a few years themselves deterred me from it. Covers may cost a lot, but they're much cheaper than the labor and material you put into the boat. I'm negotiating with a metal working company on getting mine redone with sheet aluminum if the cost isn't too high. If it is I'll just buy a fiberglass boat and be done with it!

      I bought a fiberglass boat about a week ago, ironically enough. No signs of warping on this one so far though, it's been kept indoors.

    I might have asked you this before but how exactly did you measure those 2x6s to cut them for a floor support brace

    • @Outdoor-Tactics
      @Outdoor-Tactics  2 роки тому +1

      Not gonna lie we got a rough cut by trimming cardboard and then shaved off material where needed until they fit. Being an older hull the lines weren't super clean but we needed a level surface for that floor so we were willing to put the time in to make them as perfect as we could.

    How much weight does that add

    • @Outdoor-Tactics
      @Outdoor-Tactics  3 роки тому

      It's actually lighter than when we received it. The previous owners had a deck on here built entirely from thicker wood and vertical supports. Using aluminum and thinner plywood lightened it up substantially.

    I dont know anything about boats really, what are the cost savings for making a boat like this compared to buying a used "real" bass boat? This looks like a fun project.

      @Outdoor-Tactics  3 роки тому

      I’d have to run some numbers but it would definitely come out cheaper, it’s fun AND it’s got everything I want, without having to pay for extra features I wouldn’t use on a boat I bought otherwise.
