There are at least 40,000 different Christian denominations because none of them can agree on what the Bible says. And no two Christians interpret the Bible the same way. What all knowing god couldn’t have his supposed word written so everyone could understand it and interpret it equally? If simplicity is genius then god is an imbecile.

There are 4 sets of commandments and 613 laws by ‘god’. Almost all of the 613 laws pertain to the primitive era in which they were written but both ‘god’ and Jesus specifically state that all those laws will be in effect until the end of time. You could understand primitive writers of the Bible to believe their backward era would never change. But a god or Jesus who are all knowing KNEW things would change and almost all of those 613 laws wouldn’t apply in modern days. This proves that no god wrote those laws. Men did.
I’m amused at many of them. One of the 613 says is a man sleeps with his daughter in law then both the man and the daughter in law must be executed. But later in the Bible Mr Lot’s daughters get their daddy drunk and rape him on successive nights. Another law says if a child curses at his father that child must be executed. So according to god it’s okay to drug and rape your father but if you cuss at him you get executed.
And it’s okay to god to rape your father but it’s a death sentence if a man and daughter have a consensual affair.
No wonder Christians are the most prolific cherry pickers in the history of cherry-picking. If they actually adhered to god’s 613 laws none would be alive or have eyesight.
Jesus said to gouge out your eyes if you feel lust. Every normal human experiences lust so if you see a Christian without a seeing eye dog he’s a damned hypocrite.
Christians like to weasel out of laws by saying “Well, that was in the old testament so it doesn’t count”. That’s bullshit since the Ten Commandments were in the old testament and they want to erect the Ten Commandments in front of every building in the country.
Christians try to excuse god’s horrible wrath and the draconian laws in the Old Testament by saying those laws ceased to be in effect when Jesus arrived. But they are not being honest and they haven’t even read the Bible they say is the word of the god they worship. In Matthew 5:17-18 Jesus says he has come to ENFORCE the Old Testament laws. And to Christians who say Old Testament laws cease to be valid when Jesus appeared why do they say they follow the Ten Commandments in the Old Testament?
      MATTHEW 5:17-18
“Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have NOT come to abolish them but to FULFILL THEM!”
“For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, NOT one iota, NOT a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.”
Jesus loves the laws of the Old Testament and likes having people stoned to death, even innocent rape victims. And he believes if you eat shellfish you’re going to hell. And if you masturbate you’re going to hell.
Jesus’ affirming all the Old Testament laws in Matthew 5:17-18 completely debunks the myth that Jesus is all about love. Jesus even said “Slaves obey your masters, even the cruel ones”. Jesus was pro slavery. (1 Peter 2:18) The Bible says you can beat your adult and child slaves almost to the point of death. What just or moral god could advocate ownership of other humans and beating them almost to death?

My mother struggles with severe mental illness and was very abusive toward me and my siblings and as we got older and started fighting back and calling her on her behavior this was literally her biggest explanation why she can do whatever she wanted to us and we just have to deal. Honor your mother and your father. She kicked my dad out and raised us alone so it just came down to honor your mother. And she felt like that gave her free reign and zero responsibility for her actions.

I haven’t seen or spoken to her or my siblings in several years and I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on our relationship and come to the simple fact that it’s not that she just didn’t love me, I’m sure she does in her own way, but because of her illness and trauma she’s not capable of seeing her actions and how truly harmful they are. She only sees the good times we had and doesn’t see the screaming and hitting and tears. She doesn’t remember the manipulation degradation, but all the sacrifices she made to raise five children alone. My husband is bipolar and if he’s off his meds and falls down a rabbit hole, he doesn’t remember it very well afterwards. • @UniDocs_Mahapushpa_Cyavana

That's because the Bible consistently describes women and animals equally with them having the same purpose (to serve men) and them being described in parallel e.g. "hire of a whore, or the price of a dog."
The commandments also make much more sense if you imagine women the same way you would dogs, instead of human beings. They are expected to serve men for their divine reward, not directly follow man's commandments (except when it's them explicitly).

    • @UniDocs_Mahapushpa_Cyavana
      @UniDocs_Mahapushpa_Cyavana 3 роки тому +4

As a side note, the price of a dog being illegal is a lot more sinister than it sounds to us today.
Dogs are a vital part of keeping livestock safe and have so many essential uses, Having complete control over who gets dogs by making selling them "immoral" the cult this was written for (not yet softened its positions) has massive control of its followers and ensures compliance.
This a good example of why you shouldn't trust the Bible's authors or have faith in their morality.

Does it cut the whole line completely? Does it stop the blessings for all my other descendant generations? Why are things this important so vague?

Look at it this way. Vague sayings in a book with god's "wisdom" allows people to get people together and be told the interpretation, and then they pay money for those holy people to do that. Bad service manuals are great for mechanics to keep their jobs. Books stores are filled with better advice than any of the religious books and science books actually describe reality.

I tried to be a christian for 50 years, but it never took. I wasted so many years thinking I was the one who was broken, because my mind couldn't accept any of the bible as truth.
I bought a copy of Robert Crumb's illustrated *Book of Genesis* for my 19 year old son ten years ago, because he's an artist and I knew he would love Crumb's style.
It's a brilliant book, because it changes nothing as it's written. There are graphic depictions of famous bible scenes, such as Lot's daughter's getting dad drunk and riding him like a pony.
It was actually reading the book of Genesis, and especially hearing Hemant's excellent series of Genesis videos that finally helped me see there was nothing wrong with my "lack of faith".
I may have "lost" most of my evangelical family, but I'm free from their hateful, misogynistic, genocidal fantasy world forever.

Your emphasis on the silliness of some of the verses really drives home that these could not possibly be the words of a God such as Christians depict Him. I have always wondered why would a being with the power to create the universe be jealous of anything? What could possibly diminish his might? If his omnipotence is real, why is he so insecure?

Yeah, the Jews never call them ‘the ten commandments’, which in Hebrew would be ‘aseret ha’mitzvot’. They are referred to as ‘aseret ha’d’varim’ (the ten words) or ‘aseret ha’dibrot’ (the ten statements).
As mentioned, the Jewish law (Hebrew: Torah) has 613 commandments (Hebrew: mitzvot), most of which Christians don’t observe, while Orthodox Jews do (though there are some mitzvot that cannot be observed today due to the lack of a Temple).
Interestingly, Jehovah’s Witnesses base their refusal to accept blood transfusions on the Jewish commandment (mitzvah) to abstain from eating blood. Yet you never see them keep any of the other 612 commandments (or even the literal interpretation of the commandment against eating blood; I don’t think they only eat kosher meat).

One theory I've heard, was that the Jewish rules were only meant to be applied to fellow Jews. Everyone outside the group is on their own I guess.
Oh and also apparently, like most Christian leaders, God is in the camp of do what I say, not what I do.

When reading the Bible I often wondered about all the animal sacrifices that were to be left at the temple. There’s a lot of that. And there’s even one point where I remember “God” also requested salt, sort of like an afterthought.

The first metal worker was probably using the scientific method without knowing it....doing experiments, testing things.
Meanwhile his wife was likely spending his money and getting him to do free work for the temple. When you read about how Eve, Delilah and Bathsheba all fkd over their partners, you have to believe that the ancient writers of the bible were warning men about more than what god would do to them.

On slavery and not killing - you can see the writer/s having a very human trait - treating something as wrong not because it is wrong by itself, but because “it was done to me”.
On the sabbath - it can be seen somewhat as a social rule to give people some rest time. Of course it was modified to be something else.
