I hope you enjoy this weeks episode. I've tried to include some alternative designs that don't immediately spring to mind when making a list of this kind. I'd love to hear what cars you think are in the category of 'Future Classic'! Let me know below which cars you think are worth getting hold of (if you don't mind sharing your tips!). Enjoy! Frank
The Polestar 1 I think will be a future classic. Just look at it! The Rimac Nevera as well will probably be another classic, as a pioneer of the electric hypercar. If you want an affordable option, the new Honda E will definitely be a classic as well. Edit: The new Defender and new Mazda 3 as well. Maybe for some older options there's the Boxster and maybe the Vauxhall VX220. Another edit: The Toyota GT86 and the MX-5 are definitely going to be classics. Edit 3: The Peugeot RCZ is a really interesting car for not a lot and the newer Scirocco looked really sharp.
I think the Mercedes S65 coupé will become a future classic. Or the S-Class coupé in general, but paired with an AMG V12? Well it will be extremely desirable. I also think the F80 M3 could become a future classic considering the direction BMW is moving towards at the moment. It's a sporty, light RWD sedan with subtle styling and an amazing Inline-6. The new M3 is just over engineered and way too heavy in my opinion. I definitely agree on the R32 Golf and the E38 BMW
My affordable 8’s are: Coco’s Citroen C3 pluriel , Bangles Fiat Coupe, Peugeot RCZ , Volvo C30, Alfa GT by Bertone, Mercedes W212 coupe, Audi TT mk1, Peugeot 306 cabriolet / 406 coupe by Pinifarina. Seeing any of these on the street nowadays will put a smile on my face. 😊

@@FeroxX_Gosu good point. I'm really happy to see so much positivity around the Mk1 TT lately. When we got ours 5 years ago it was considered uncool by most people I talked to.
Glad to see the CR-Z finally getting some love on this site. The design of the dashboard still outclasses some cars 10x its price. I'd also say that while the current Mazda 3 (2019-) isn't yet cheap enough to make this list, it's certainly a future design classic. With its shoulderless flowing silhouette and the funhouse-mirror-esque side panels that bring the surface to life once in motion, Mazda has found a style that is truly unique without being garish or overly aggressive like so many other automakers. The rear light signature is very recognizable and truly fitting for a cute little rounded out city car, while also giving off an air of precise performance. The interior is elegantly and thoughtfully crafted with the controls and infotainment feeling effortlessly integrated into one continuous piece of sculpture. And on top of its excellent design, I think that in 10 years we'll look back on it as Mazda's first step into moving upmarket, giving it historical significance as well. And I'm not just saying all that because I own one...😉
CR-Z owner here. I supercharged mine with a bunch of goodies from Japan. Takes it from an attractive economy hybrid to a genuine hot hatch that looks like nothing else.
Especially the later models have an "electric boost" option. Its not really adding a lot of power, but just the ability that you can press a button and get more power is so exciting to me.
Mazda has killed it consistently with design since at least 2011. So many models that could be future classics, especially the Mazda3 you mentioned. It's only a shame that - according to reviewers at least - it doesn;t handle the way it looks.
MINI Hatch years 2000-2006. This design captured the spirit of 'Cool Brittania' at the end of the 1990s. It was inspired by, but not a pastiche of the original. It remains a charming design after all this time. It is both at once Brit pop, and Savile Row.
Wow I'm so glad that you've mentioned the Astra GTC VXR! Absolutely love the look of that car with its connecting lines around the car and the raw power to back it up. It feels like such an under appreciated car design wise.
No way! I’m actually picking up a CR-Z today! For my job as an architect I needed a reliable, affordable and economical daily driver. But I wanted something interesting, relatively unique and quirky, so CR-Z! Thanks Frank for this ‘stamp of approval’!
Boy oh boy the Z4 Coupe's design was controversial back in the day, but man, it stood the test of time and people came around to it. Spot on with the Z4, E38, S2K & Berrara. I'd add the TT, E46 ZHP & R129 to that list.
literally during this video I went online and searched for the Opel GTC to see what the offers are in my area - this car looks gorgeous, along with Alfa Romeo Brera... and I kept looking around until the video in the background was coming towards the end to the honorable mentions, and I almost dropped a tear when I heard BMW e38 7 series as I own this car and want to sell it... but I just can't, my heart is not that strong.
I just sold a Z4 3.0 si Coupe. Almost cried when I saw it. It was a great car. After lockdown I wanted freedom and open spaces and wanted to buy a roadster, so I bought a Abarth 124 spider. Mad mad car. Great fun, and painted as the mad car it is. Black and white with red mirrors
I just bought a 500 Abarth a couple of months ago. its got the same engine as your car, it is an absolutely crazy machine. I hope to have a 124 in my garage as well someday.
I own a 2003 Z4 2.5 with sport package convertible....love it! However I have driven the Abarth and I agree it's a great drivers car. Much more raw than and higher revving than the Mazda version. Looks better too!! Congrats!!
@@Boolean21 yes! Great fun too!! I cannot believe that you can have such fun with a 1.4 litre engine. The BMW had a fantastic engine as well but it was a much more serious car. It was more of a gran tourer as well. The Abarth is a joke. And everytime you drive one you are smiling. No, you won’t be the fastest, but you’ll be the one having the greatest time. That’s for sure. Hope you enjoy your 500!!!
@@donjuan150 BMW straight six is hard to beat. It is one of the all time greats. As a car, the BMW was a much better car. But as a toy, the Abarth is hard to beat. And since I use the car as a weekend toy, I’m enjoying it a lot, even more than the Z4. But, I’ll miss the Z4 of course. Hope you have a great time with yours!
Not quite so. In the UK a limited number were passed to ProDrive to tweak the weight and the handling. and that transformed the car for me. So it's the Brera S to go for to get the best looks and better performance. Mind you I have a real soft spot ( and one in the garage too ) for the much rarer Alfa Spider also built on the same floor pan. Again not fantastic dynamically in standard form compared to the Porsche Boxster but when you look this good who needs speed? Frank what are your thoughts on the much - maligned Alfa 166 probably the most svelte and understated Alfa of the 2000s? Well curated list but there are stunning Jags out there selling for washers at auctionso that's my addition to your excellent list.
Quite happy with my C6, seeing as I only paid £750 for it! Two years down the line, values on them have dropped further, though I can't see how they'll drop much more. They only made 23,000 of them. The number surviving in the UK is in the hundreds, and less than a thousand ever found homes here. I love it, it feels so special.
I really think the Z4M coupe is the most beautiful bimmer ever made ...the Z3M coupe was kinda weird looking but the Z4M is just gorgeous especially with the M3 CSL wheels...i think is one of the most underrated bimmers...u have to see it in real life to appreciate it ...its a rare sight though...the first time i saw it , it was love at first sight
The 2001 BMW 740iL is one of the best cars ever produced imho. They got absolutely everything right and dialed with the E38. Such a smooth and linear power delivery with minimal NVH while being roomy and having good handling etc... It's been difficult to reconcile in my mind but the E38 definitely wins out overall vs all of my current vehicles (1996 Volvo 850R, 1987 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16, as well as my first car - a 1988 Volvo 780 Bertone)
The new Toyota Yaris GR is already a future classic. Run and buy one now! Trust me. Honor place: new Suzuki “Gmini” ! Might be small and rough, but it will hold its value well!
Fiat Coupe, Maserati 3200 GT, 90s Maserati quattroporte, Lancia Thesis, early Saab 900 turbo, Jaguar XK, Aston Martin DB7, the world is full of interesting cars..
I hadn't got to your response before I penned mine. On the 166 I totally agree especially in the original slimmer fronted design. The interior finish is superb too.
Hi Frank! Chuffed I am that you mention the Brera! I own the V6 version and am not disappointed with the performance at all. Its four wheel drive system keeps it glued to the road surface and makes it a tremendous joy to drive, especially on mountainous roads. Love it to bits and intend to keep it as long as I can! Beware of timing chain issues though ;) Cheers!
@@yoshi879 Any BMW In-line 6, turbo or not turbo are the best motors ever. Mechanics I know will say it’s the best motor ever and the reason I bought my 2011 E90 323i over the F30 is because I just couldn’t get over the fact they had gotten rid of the small inline 6s in place of 4 cylinders. I think I made the right decision as the motor has had no problems and it’s as smooth as Silk and it Revs out beautifully. The rest of the car I’ve also had no issues. Best car I’ve ever owned and mainly because of that Small in-line 6. If I do stop driving it I’ll probably give it to one of my sons and buy a new G20 330i or 340i, Kia Stinger (with the V6), Mercedes C300 or Audi A5/S5/S4.
Thanks Frank for this channel, it's helped to understand things that I was kind of aware of but didn't really know how to articulate or understand. I think the Mk1 Audi TT could be a future classic, it was such an unusual and groundbreaking design when it appeared, and still looks good today. I love the Brera, but the original Alfa 156 is also a stunning design, it just needs a bit of tidying around the front to clean it up and a decent set of wheels to set it off nicely. I was slightly surprised by the CR-Z, but it's not a bad design and you've given me a whole new appreciation of how to look at the design.
Just discovered your channel and I became an instant fan. Not a car person in the strict sense, but definitely into the design aspect of cars. The Brera has been my firm favourite since I first saw one, a really unique and "masculine" piece of art on four wheels. Thanks for all the content, it's great to be able to glimpse into the mind of the person who conceived such iconic designs.
There's one car I have owned which ended production about 16 years ago, yet it still looks fresh and I'd have a good one in my garage. The original Audi A2. All aluminium, no need to lift the bonnet, very roomy interior, yet compact enough to park anywhere. If had the garage I would also happily drop £10k on the 10 year old Outback 3.6 currently for sale at my local Subaru dealer.
At the time it actually had the highest average buyer income of all Audis. My dream garage was 10 different cars, and included the original A2 for runs to the train station or to pick up milk. From memory it was an F430 spider manual (got it), 911, E39M5 (had two). Date car: Eagle E-type. Tuner car: MkIV Supra (had one). Supercar: McLaren F1. Track day: Ariel Atom or Caterham 260CSR. Milk run: A2. Schlepping and snowy conditions: old Land Cruiser or Defender, never wash it. Museum car: Alfa Carabo (for looks) and Rekordwagen (performance).
Great episode! Btw, I was working at GM Europe Design in Rüsselsheim while the Opel/Vauxhall Astra GTC was designed (as 3D-modeler and I did wheels and logos for the Astra "J"). I can tell you that at first it had an even more extremely raked windshield, almost like a Lamborghini Gallardo(!). Always loved this car, even if it got a bit more sensible as production model... Also - I have always had a craving to own a Citroën C6 sometime, even though I don´t really need such a big car and prefer hot hatches. Coolest luxury sedan ever.
I love this Frank. Brilliant. I like the way design is subjective, some we all may agree on, some we won't. That's the beauty of it because when we agree we may shout "yes, nice one" as I did on a few of these. I do think you are a bit out with your values. One is obvious, Porsche always go up. But what I really love about this is you are not falling for stereotypical cliche like say Italian cars. You are not judging by badge but by design and that is what I love about this one. Honda is a great shout and gets on with stuff, they take risks and have great designs. Well recognised. I owned a Brera 2.2 petrol but found it a bit wide (lucky I will never be able to afford a Ferrari) and pretty heavy. It was lovely to look at and had a tobacco and blue interior. I think you should mention the Alfa Romeo GTV 916. Well done though, great video, thank you.
@@patrickbateman6885 This kind of mentality leads nowhere really. The Audi tt is a great car designwise. But it is not rare enough to become highly sought after at this point.
Finally someone mentioned Astra GTC. I sat in it during Paris Motor show in 2012 (Opel OPC). Fantastic looking car but it seems no one cared about it until today. Thank You Frank.
As an owner I am very glad to see the Brera in another list of potential future classics. Weardly the most exciting situations are when you see another one in motion. Then the muscular design when you walk around it transforms into really elegant sculpture wich looks almost kinda petite.
I think the Fiat Coupé is always massively underrated in these sorts of lists! Definitely deserves to be there 😊. The C6 & Brera are great picks! Fell in love with their unique designs from the moment they were revealed.
I had a 1999 20v Turbo; BRG with tan leather as my first car at 17; the insurance for one year cost almost as much as the car...what a car, though! I put it in a ditch (oof that understeer) while showing off to my cousin. Ahhh good times!
Wow I've never seen a Citroen C6 before, they are stunning; I bet it's incredibly comfortable with the hydropneumatic suspension too. What's your favourite Renault Clio generation from a design perspective? I've always like the MK2 Renaultsport Clios
I’ve seen a few C6’s in the wild, they look really good and they are the last big Citroëns. To me they honour the days when flagship Citroëns were synonymous with high class luxury and unmatchable ride quality.
Nice list, Frank! 8 years ago I bought a 2009 1750 tbi Brera with only 48000km for 8700€, today with 120000km its worth is near 18-20k, mounting a set of 19 inch prodrive wheels. Last week I bough an older sister for the Brera - a 3.0 v6 24v Alfa GTV with that iconic design and engine, only 6200€ for a future classic with 150000km . Next on the list is a Z4 so with this list you're hitting my top 5 buys :)
I would say the first gen Volvo S40 from 1995-2004 (especially the facelift). Everyone gives credit to the V40 estate (which is understandable, the thing is beautiful) but I feel the sedan is underrated. It's just such a beautifully clean design with the proportions done right, very well balanced. My sister had one, it was so comfortable and that 1.8 turbo 4 cylinder had a nice engine note to it and was remarkably fuel efficient. Oh yeah and the seat warmer was the best I've ever used in any car.
Peugeot RCZ 2014 with design elements from their Le Mans race car. It's affordable, and looks like pretty special. I guess that car will be a future classic. Maybe the most affordable car with double bubble roof or Zagato roof.
I have an incredible lust for that generation of Mini. Now is the time to buy them too. You can get an average R53 for around £2000, a mint one for £3500 and a project for less than £900
In America I seldom see a Citroen, Vauxhall, Opel or Alfa Romeo - many of these have classic styling and performance. I do see many BMWs, Jaguars, and Chevrolet Corvettes- maybe you could include a Jaguar or Corvette in your videos ?
2013-2014 Mustang GT has aged beautifully because of its perfectly executed vintage Musclecar design brought to the Modern era. The fog lights in the grille are a gorgeous touch. Performance is raw and fun. It has a healthy sound. Interior is minimal but well-designed. Rear and front LED lights are distinct. Beautiful car. Car and Driver Magazine has a photo set that really does this machine justice.
Yes, there was just something about that Brera! Mean and sexy embodied in a single body. My big bro got me into Alfas haha, he had a high spec Alfa 156 at one point 👌🏾
I think the Fiat Punto MKI and Fiat Uno by Giugiaro were great designs but very scarce in the 2nd market especially in the UK. Lancia Thesis and Lancia Kappa like the Citroen C6 very rare and quirky but hugely desirable! The Chrysler Ypsilon based on Lancia Ypsilon would be on my shortlist too.
As someone who spends a lot of time on autotraider I can confidently recommend the 93 Saab as a future classic! Also any ford escort is gonna be worth a lot and I have a feeling that Citroen's quirky c3 pluriel will soon increase in value too! The latter is probably what I'd personally buy on a tight budget! They start at around £700!
Thank you! I have a 2016 CR-Z, and I love it. It didn't seem to get much love here in the US, but it definitely has a bit of a cult following. I can definitely see it becoming a collector in the near future. Personally, I plan on keeping it for a long time...
I was happy to see the CR-Z on this list too. I had a 2011 CR-Z for 8 years - every time I walked toward it in a parking lot it made me smile - such a beautiful design. I switched to a 2017 BMW i3 Rex, and every time I approach it in a parking lot I grimace just a bit (but the i3 is beautiful on the inside and much quicker than my CR-Z was).
Hello Frank! I love your videos Sir! I think the most expensive car that should be added to the list is Alfa Romeo 4C. Is it is still very new and modern, but the design is drop-dead gorgeous. And That design is going to age like fine wine. Someday it's going to shoot up in value and it's going to bring a decent return on investment, if not astronomical.
@@nikosstories Copy of the brera? what do you mean? In terms of shape? Cause many cars have had that shape, it's not like it belongs to the brera. Apart from that, there are no similarities. Different headlights, fascia, bumper designs.
I liked the second-generation. Corrado too. Funny, the gen1 Scirocco had nearly the exact same side-view of the Corrado but the micro-design of the Scirocco put me off, I prefer the Corrado detailling.
I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the BMW 2010 135i as I have recently purchased one when I was looking for a Z4. I have instantly fallen in love with this car and don't think there is anything you could say to change my mind but I would still like to hear what you have to say that may make me more humble about my BMW. Thanks, Michael T
Jaguar XK8/XKR. Great looking cars in the right colour/specification and they are just stupid cheap right now. You can buy them for under £10,000 all day long which I'm certain won't be the case forever.
I'd agree for the supercharged coupe, seems like a good deal. Plenty of power and good looking (shared platform with aston martin). However, unlike with aston, no manual were offered with the ford' sourced v8. Reliability is questionable at best. The second gen also had its problem, they went with an alluminium chassis but cheaped out on the subframes that rot away faster than a late 90's mazda
I'm not sure about the Astra, but I think the rest are pretty spot on. Even the Z4, which stylistically I dislike, has matured nicely, and having had the opportunity to take a M one on track in anger, they drive great. Prices are a completely different story here in the US where these are all 2x, but that doesn't necessarily make them any less of a value from this standpoint, I suppose.
I think the r230 sl mercedes, especially the sl600 with the v12 will be a future classic. Also the first generation mercedes cls. Such a unique boat tail design.
i hope you see this but i have never been into designing and yet i find your videos really interesting and it's getting me into drawing cars. keep doing what your doing ❤️
Hey Frank! I think it would be awesome if you gave us your opinion about the new lotus Emira. Such a Beautiful car, really nice flow lines! I’d love to see a video about it. Thank you for your content!
Just put them aside c6 and you will see they, unfortunately, don't belong in the same league. Simply not that level of design sophistication as c6. They would have been highly desired classics by now, if they had ever been meant to be.
This is a pretty good list. Not sure any of the Z4s other than the M will make it, but we shall see! Here are a few I would add: - Buick Reatta; the exterior looks slick, the interior is space-age on both sides of the facelift, and in good condition it still turns heads (especially if it's red on the stock alloys!). Hand-built, too! - Audi TT Mk. I; I think this one needs no introduction or explanation. ;) - Audi TT Mk. III; very expensive and still being sold today, I think this car is going to be on the short list of cars that will appreciate with its exquisite combination of athleticism and bubbly character on that drips both inside and out. - Toyota Supra Mk. III; everybody knows and lusts over the Mk. IV, but the Mk. III channels that quintessential late '80s and early '90s wedge look in a package that is both performant and reliable, and I think people are going to gravitate to them more and more as we move to the future and Mk. IVs become firmly entrenched unobtanium.
The Z4 M Coupe will definitely be a classic I believe. The lines are amazing from a design standpoint, and the M treatment with the S54 andthe CSL suspension, brakes and steering rack make it the perfect sports car. Oh and it is rare too !
Citroen C4 3-door also matching that Brera-CRZ-Astra idea) Plus I'd mention Tesla Model S, Honda Insight, Mercedes C-klasse CL203, Mini Clubman and BMW 1st series.
@frank - I think you missed the E82 BMW 135i as a future classic. Clean, strong, flowing Bangle led design. Perfect proportions, perfect overhangs and wheel openings. Still looks every bit a classic BMW. Strong performance, fun factor, classic I6 noise. Very attainable, and easy to work on.
I would put the first gen Audi A5 on this list, as well. It has such an elegant design, and the proportions are just perfect. It´s one of the best looking cars of the modern era, in my opinion.
I actually had a CR-Z. The car was pretty good in almost every way, except……..it simply couldn’t get out of its own way. If it had ANY power, it would be an instant classic, IMHO.
I was in high school when it first came out and I was in love with the car. The CR-Z with the Mugen kit...just right. Bisimoto tuning with the turbos and stuff got it up to 500hp, but at least 200 hp would've matched the looks and weight. Now I think I would just spend my money on a Hilux or something utilitarian but damn if it wasn't an underrated car...the hybrid system probably made some people also look somewhere else.
The 2000 Audi S4 prices remained stagnant for a long time even though they’ve been cult classics for a while. Recently they’ve skyrocketed. Timeless design, fun driving experience and an endlessly tunable engine have made people forget how difficult they are to work on.

The zhp is the facelift, which is quite ugly
literally during this video I went online and searched for the Opel GTC to see what the offers are in my area - this car looks gorgeous, along with Alfa Romeo Brera... and I kept looking around until the video in the background was coming towards the end to the honorable mentions, and I almost dropped a tear when I heard BMW e38 7 series as I own this car and want to sell it... but I just can't, my heart is not that strong.
Was surprised the Brera didn't show up un the Alfa video. Glad to see it here.
I'm glad you included the Brera, because that is a masterfully designed automobile. Thanks.
@@carlosgallegorodriguez7281 Sounds perfect! Thank you my friend....
Really agree with the Brera. I've noticed these all the time, just a shame about the lack of performance options.
That feeling when your car design taste matches the taste of great car designer!!!!!
Thank you so much Frank! Great Channel!!!
Here we go - BMW Z4 E86 owner here... Best toy I have ever bought!
The only problem with that being how ugly the Yaris is
@Aryan A exactly. And also a three cylinder electronic infested car. Things that will be nearly impossible to preserve.
@Aryan A That’s the point. It’s just a Yaris. Completely understated.
Fiat Coupe, Maserati 3200 GT, 90s Maserati quattroporte, Lancia Thesis, early Saab 900 turbo, Jaguar XK, Aston Martin DB7, the world is full of interesting cars..
I have a suggestion, Alfa Romeo 166 3.0 V6. Last executive car of Alfa Romeo (probably ever) , really unique line, gorgeous interior, amazing engine.
I hadn't got to your response before I penned mine. On the 166 I totally agree especially in the original slimmer fronted design. The interior finish is superb too.
@@iainbradley2847 indeed the first series is my favourite
Great video as always! I would also mention the Volkswagen Scirocco!
Beware of timing chain issues though ;)
Cheers!
The Z4 is a must have
@UC93xkBO9rejlWOn8rE5Prnw with some LED's its basically a 2018 car
Had a bmw 130i with the n52b30, so same engine as the z4 coupe. Absolutely brilliant engine, loved to be revved and totally reliable.
I loved the CR-Z when it came out and I still love it. Such a cool little car. If it had more power and a little more space I would own one
Great video as always, I would add the Fiat Coupe to the list; Its a unique design that really stands out. Glad the C6 got a mention as well.
The alfa and opel look so good. Very sad we didn't get them in NA
Seriously...I've never seen a Brera before. Absolutely gorgeous!
Very happy to see my car on this list!! Crz’s never get enough love. As soon as I laid eyes on it I knew it’s potential was through the roof.
I really love my Laguna 3, especially the Laguna 3 Coupe, incredible design
Agreed, love that coupe!
I really enjoy and appreciate these kind of videos, as I'm sure many others do, too. Thank you!
A pleasure Nigel. 👍
Amazing to see the Brera on this list! I own a 159 right now, same front end as the Brera. Beautiful beautiful cars 😍
The 1st gen. Audi TT is quite cheap. The nice interior makes it a decent package overall I think.
Definitely missed this one his list.

@@christianfranke6652 There is a reason its not here because it’s a hairdressers car and he doesn’t respect it.
@@patrickbateman6885 maybe, that’s what Clarkson said. Still I think designwise it’s a True 90s Icon. Prove me wrong 😉
@@patrickbateman6885 This kind of mentality leads nowhere really. The Audi tt is a great car designwise. But it is not rare enough to become highly sought after at this point.
Love all these designs you’ve mentioned. I have a soft spot for the Vauxhall vx220, one of those designs that’s matured well over time
Wow number one is my car!! Make me feel better that Frank Stephenson recognises that piece of awesomeness.
Finally someone mentioned Astra GTC. I sat in it during Paris Motor show in 2012 (Opel OPC). Fantastic looking car but it seems no one cared about it until today. Thank You Frank.
That Alfa Brera is absolutly stunning! ❤️
Great vid Frank. Nice to see that someone else appreciates the C6 and the CRZ.
I own a fiat coupe 20vt, what a car, seriously i think its one of the most beautiful looking cars ever produced!
To me they honour the days when flagship Citroëns were synonymous with high class luxury and unmatchable ride quality.
my favourite lio is the mk 4, C6 isn't really for me, style wise, but thats better for the ones who enjoy it.
I am VERY suprised seeing C4 on this list, since that is one of the ugliest rear end imo.
@@mater753s do you mean c6 ? With those bendy rear lights, very curvy aesthestic
@@fapulousboy3228 yes, C6, sorry - the one featured in this video...
Very interesting choices! I really enjoyed this video! Thanks Frank!
Peugeot RCZ 2014 with design elements from their Le Mans race car. It's affordable, and looks like pretty special. I guess that car will be a future classic. Maybe the most affordable car with double bubble roof or Zagato roof.
I've just discovered your channel and I can't get enough. Thanks for doing these videos, they're awesome! 🔥🔥🔥
Frank might have been too humble to suggest it, but the R53/50 MINI will always be a classic.
Undoubtely
I have an incredible lust for that generation of Mini. Now is the time to buy them too.
You can get an average R53 for around £2000, a mint one for £3500 and a project for less than £900
Hi Frank. MG TF is a good idea for the category of "Future Classic". I have such a model and I recommend it.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the new Lotus Emira.
In America I seldom see a Citroen, Vauxhall, Opel or Alfa Romeo - many of these have classic styling and performance. I do see many BMWs, Jaguars, and Chevrolet Corvettes- maybe you could include a Jaguar or Corvette in your videos ?
I was on holiday in Italy as a 12 year old and when i saw a Brera i couldnt even believe it excisted. It's amazing in Person.
Hey Frank, thank you for the new episode. The Brera looks pretty interesting !
More of these affordable amazing designed cars. Great video!
@@joeb4294 You made me laugh at the image of you begrudgingly moving towards it:)))
I'd still add the Audi TT first gen.
gotta agree
no lol its so ugly🤮
Hello Frank!
I love your videos Sir! I think the most expensive car that should be added to the list is Alfa Romeo 4C. Is it is still very new and modern, but the design is drop-dead gorgeous. And That design is going to age like fine wine. Someday it's going to shoot up in value and it's going to bring a decent return on investment, if not astronomical.
I think the VW Scirocco deserved to be in such a list.
True, especially the last generation.
Vw Scirocco looks like a bad copy of alfa romeo brera. As the passat cc looks like a bad Mercedes cls.
Thanks,

Jaguar XK8/XKR. Great looking cars in the right colour/specification and they are just stupid cheap right now. You can buy them for under £10,000 all day long which I'm certain won't be the case forever.
I'd agree for the supercharged coupe, seems like a good deal. Plenty of power and good looking (shared platform with aston martin). However, unlike with aston, no manual were offered with the ford' sourced v8. Reliability is questionable at best. The second gen also had its problem, they went with an alluminium chassis but cheaped out on the subframes that rot away faster than a late 90's mazda
CR-Z is so beautiful! I have many many wallpapers of CR-Z & 2014 Civic type-R, both are a delight to look at. Absolutely Stunning!
Such a unique boat tail design.
it would be great to hear your thought on the new design language at lotus and the new emira.

My 2001 BMW X5 4.4i sport is an instant Classic because Frank designed it and it is simply Stunning.
I'm glad you mentioned the Citroen C6. I think two more future classic: the Saab 9-3 Viggen, and the Lexus IS 300 Sportcross
Here are a few I would add:
- Buick Reatta; the exterior looks slick, the interior is space-age on both sides of the facelift, and in good condition it still turns heads (especially if it's red on the stock alloys!). Hand-built, too!
- Audi TT Mk. I; I think this one needs no introduction or explanation. ;)
- Audi TT Mk.
I own a 6 speed CR-Z, made my whole day
Absolutely love your youtube channel!!!
The Z4 M Coupe will definitely be a classic I believe. The lines are amazing from a design standpoint, and the M treatment with the S54 andthe CSL suspension, brakes and steering rack make it the perfect sports car. Oh and it is rare too !
Totally agree with you, funnily enough there are roughly the same amount as Z4m coupes out there as Z4 3.0si manual
Finally, some love for the Z4!
Citroen C4 3-door also matching that Brera-CRZ-Astra idea)
Plus I'd mention Tesla Model S, Honda Insight, Mercedes C-klasse CL203, Mini Clubman and BMW 1st series.
Someone near me owns that Alfa and everytime I see it, I have to stand there for a minute and just admire it.
The Citroen C6 it's not an obvious choice at all, but it has a timeless beauty from the first day. And it looks even better in close real contact.
Exactly!
How about VW Scirocco? I find it very difficult to choose from Scirocco and Brera, both are brilliant.
Forgive the joke, but if you find it hard to choose, then there must be something wrong with your eyes😉
@frank - I think you missed the E82 BMW 135i as a future classic.
I've owned two CRZ, another good addition to this list I think is the VW sirocco, similar shooting brake design, we never got it in North America
I actually had a CR-Z. The car was pretty good in almost every way, except……..it simply couldn’t get out of its own way. If it had ANY power, it would be an instant classic, IMHO.
Exactly.
Loved the look of it, but as many have complained, it didn't have much grunt
I was in high school when it first came out and I was in love with the car. The CR-Z with the Mugen kit...just right. Bisimoto tuning with the turbos and stuff got it up to 500hp, but at least 200 hp would've matched the looks and weight. Now I think I would just spend my money on a Hilux or something utilitarian but damn if it wasn't an underrated car...the hybrid system probably made some people also look somewhere else.
Here's a few more I'd pick:
- Audi TT mk1
- Nissan 350z
- BMW E63 6 series
- BMW E65 7 series
- Honda Civic EG
- Toyota 86 (pre-facelift)
The 2000 Audi S4 prices remained stagnant for a long time even though they’ve been cult classics for a while. Recently they’ve skyrocketed. Timeless design, fun driving experience and an endlessly tunable engine have made people forget how difficult they are to work on.
