    I would choose the GSXR because my ear has an issue telling RPM based on sound with the flat plain R1 and V twins that I ride. I also prefer the aggressive power delivery of the GSXR. It's a feeling you get when riding them.

      My brother had a GSX-R 750 and had told me that bike has wobbled,and tried to highside and other wonky unexpected and undesirable traits.
      All this happening in less than a year. He had a Yamaha 1000 and went back to Yamaha . After me wanting a Suzuki GSX-R for year's this made drop them from my want to buy list immediately. He literally complained everytime he got home from riding the Suzuki GSX-R saying he couldn't ride as hard as he did his Yamaha 🤷

    Sorry, is it not possible that Geoff wasn't riding properly at the time or are we to assume he always is perfect? I sound snarky but I'm not trying to be. To label all stock GSXR1000's as death traps is a bit extreme just because your buddy had a crash. I've seen a lot of tank slappers at tracks with all brands.

    • @KnoxArmour
      @KnoxArmour  2 роки тому +3

      Fair comment and not snarky 😀. Of course he doesn't ride perfect, but being an ex national level racer, he is competent... however the point is, and 1 that i personally very much believe in, is that you should be able to go full gas on a modern sportsbike on a straight and not risk a potentially life threatening tank slapper. We've spoken to many modern gsxr1000 owners who have reported the same thing, either with v near misses or were simply unable to ride the bike properly without suspension/damper upgrades. Talking to our suspension technician who is a technician for many racers, he said its clear the damper didnt do anything. Ive ridden the bike myself in stock form and it is unstable when ridden hard. Proof in the pudding is, with the upgrades weve done to suspension and proper steering damper, the bike is rock solid and is awesome now 👌. In contrast, the R1 was safe and stable even in stock form. Hope that all makes sense. Thanks Aaron Knox

      @@KnoxArmour Own exact same bike, which I bought brand new for track bike. First time out in stock trim at Cadwell had a full on 100mph + tank slap accelerating hard out of Barn onto start / finish straight. Completely uncontrollable, lock stop to lock stop, for considerable distance. Managed to save it, but GSXR-R definitely unstable in stock form. Sorted now, and awesome bike, but take the advice anyone thinking of tracking one of these. I was actually at Snet the day Geoff had his off, nice to see the bike restored 👍

Believe the 2020+ R1 has revised engine work which makes it more powerful in race spec, but the bike is similar in road trim with the extra emissions restrictions needed to pass the tough new EURO 5 regulations. INCREDIBLE very objective films - you guys have very much confirmed - these bikes have so much power the GSXR having a Flat Plane crank with even firing interval -perfect Primary balance minor secondary imbalance but it puts 4 separate power pulses at the back wheel - most powerful making it a real handful, the R1 very rare Cross Plane crank uneven firing interval Primary imbalance is not so good but is balanced out with a extra balance shaft but has good secondary balance but less power but what this achieves is 2 power pulses at the back wheel (2 off contraindicated by each other) this makes it so much easier to ride so hats off to Yamaha having the courage to design a more complicated engine with some disadvantages to achieve 1 key advantage - its far easier to ride - similar to big bang engines. You can actually hear the engine sound difference on the track videos, so ultimate excitement with risk GSXR, easier riding & probably faster for most R1. (currently ride GSXR1000K1 160HP that's easy to manage) Excellent review thanks

Thinking of an older R1 / Gixer 1000 ? K5 /2005 era ? any thoughts ? I ride with all the crap turned off on my XR, and don't find it fast or intimidating tbh, been riding 35+years tho.

    I really agree with what you said about the stock gsxr-1000 suspension, I have basically the same bike but still stock rear suspension and stock damper...
    There's been a few scary moments, mainly head shake/wobble.
    The way it wheelies so easy exiting corners, etc, and the way it's stiff and somewhat unpredictable (to me anyways) it has definitely contributed to a couple death wobbles. Group I used to ride with pretty much all have newer r1s or r1m's, and they look at me like I don't know how to ride because I got a death wobble.
    I rode a BMW s1000rr with no steering damper for almost 3 months, got it down low in corners, popped wheelies... Never thought it was unpredictable or like I didn't know how it would react over a rough road. It felt telepathic, if I wanted it to go left, it went left. If I wanted right? It went right.
    Never wobbled on me, no tank slapper moments.
    The gsxr?
    Well, I've got an aftermarket damper waiting to go on, and I've already turned it almost completely stiff. That constant flighty/light feeling is definitely not my favorite, and probably only contributes to it's extreme willingness to enter a wobble for any reason at all.
    Also noticed that the stock damper let's it get wild for a second or two before the electronics intervene and stiffen it up.
    Roll raced and leaving the concrete strip and entering the asphalt strip both I and my buddys zx10 suffered a bit of head shake.
    Where mine basically started death wobbling and I had to wait and ride it out before the damper stiffened and helped me out, my buddies zx10 wobbled a couple times and that was it.
    So basically...stock electronic damper is trash. Throw away, even the cheap adjustable one I have as a backup from Amazon is stiffer and more solid feeling. $39.99 as well...
    That's my two cents. As far as the power of the bike, if you had the suspension to put the power down? Well, the r1 would be hard pressed to keep up. If it could at All... I have one to beat right now actually. But putting on the damper and adjusting my rear shock first, I like riding bikes that feel planted and stable ish at least. I feel much better about full throttle as well. Otherwise I just have to let him win because I prize my bike and my life over beating just one guy. One of those I know I can but what are the consequences type of things...last time we ran I just had to let him go. 🤷 Is what it is. If the bike feels off, or like it's gonna randomly death wobble without reason, I'll let out and slow down.
    Thanks for the thorough reviews guys. Enjoyed!

    Real question here on a good CC to start track riding, Would you learn more on smaller CC bikes like the R3 or KTM 390 or would the 750 be better ( I own a 2015 GSXR 750 ) ? I have never done a track day and would love to improve my riding skills more than just go fast.

      @KnoxArmour  2 роки тому +3

      Take your 750, its the best 👌. Need something fast enough so that the guys on bigger bikes dont pass uou at a million mph which is scary, 750 works well. With a 750 you can go from learning to being the fastest guy at the track day. Thanks Aaron Knox

    Tbf, they said the gsxr1000 feels better than the r1 because it has top spec aftermarket suspension, and the R1 is better when you compare them in stock form...that the gsxr1000 is dangerous in stock form if you push it at the track. And that if both had aftermarket investment, they would likely be about the same. The comparison in the video isn't a fair one, and they tell it isn't a fair one. So, if you just want to buy a bike to use at the track in stock form, buy the R1. And, if you want to buy a bike for a track build, buy either one. Suspension will cost you about $5k.

      @@KnoxArmour I ride a 2020 gsx-s1000 so I can’t attest to it, since you guys did the seat time. But I’ve been doing research since I want to trade bike in for the gsxr..
      Per Suzuki:
      Changes from 2017 to 2020 for the base gsxr1000. Quick shifter is standard and revisions to the front disc for less fade. Modes: C mode reduces torque and hp across all revs, B mode 100%torque and fueling tapers off right before the engines VVT is engaged, A mode 100% everything. Traction 10-5 wheelie control is engaged and 4-off: no wheelie control.
      As I have not tested myself, I can’t say if it’s accurate. Thank you for the video, it helped me to decide to trade in for the gsxr

      @downlowgo_401 Nice one, you'll love it. 😆
      Definitely, the wheelie control is there in those lower tc modes. It only doesn't interfere around 1-2... The problem is, i wouldn't trust exactly what it's doing, its just that sort of bike, bot like the R1 which you can lean on much more 😂...
      Another thing, from 2019 onwards, the engines got more power. Not an official thing, but there is an undisclosed update in the engine that adds about another 4-5hp at the rear wheel... Hope that all helps. Aaron Knox
