    I have both. And on static images focus is better and with more sharpness on the H2. And it’s all about cropping too. Also make sure your settings are right. Dig deep 😊. I just wish people just go out and shoot. Mostly all cameras in this time is good. Shoot and stop all these wars. Lol

      The problem is people going out and shooting. Instead of learning how their camera works and making the necessary adjustments to get the best out of the camera. Most people pull it out of the box, slap battery and card in it and expect it to make them professional photographers. When the results aren't that good, they blame the camera. It's always the cameras fault, never theirs.
      As for wars. It is interesting. Since the XT-5 came out, all the little dial-fans have stopped hating on the X-H2S and the X-H2. I don't think a lot of Fuji fans realise why a new CEO was brought in and why they started producing "professional" cameras with PASM dials, they probably still don't.

      Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment. Unfortunately, when I post videos about going out and shooting images, they rarely get a ton of views. Videos where I discuss which camera to buy usually gets more views and discussions, and I like to connect with people and answer questions. I hate to make videos based on reasoning like that but I hate more spending time creating videos that don’t reach anyone. I appreciate you watching! The cameras we have access today are amazing! That’s real talk.

      Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment. I couldn’t agree with you more - and I’m guilty of wanting things to “be easy” straight out of the box. Part of my commitment in starting a UA-cam channel was to document my journey and to show the process of using cameras, and thinking about photography from my point of view - an amateur and a freelance photographer. Sometimes I have a less than perfect attitude and preparation. With all the limitations of time, talent, gear, or effort - that I or we may face, I’m hoping to create something useful to some of us. I appreciate your input and insight.

    Thanks for sharing. I did these sort of tests many years ago with my 5Dmk4 and 1DX mk1 at the time, 30megapizels vs 18megapixs. I also did blind print test samples at A1 size.
    Nobody could pic any difference and many guessed wrong.
    So for me I super happy with the XH2S 26 megapixels is great for what I do. If u want better clarity in your images, Invest in the latest sharper lenses, they will actually make a bigger difference in overall IQ then more megapixels using your existing older lenses.

    The differences aren’t earth shattering but my experience with the xh2 is the resolution is showing more detail but that also means way bigger file sizes too. Hello! Thank you for watching and for your comment. I’m really happy having switched over from the R5 to the X-H2s. It’s been solid for client work for event photography, so I’m happy there. Last year I used the R5 for my first mini-documentary and for filming some campaign and corporate videos so I have yet to really test that capacity out on the X-H2s, but I expect that it will excel and match the R5. The funny thing about the R5 is that I bought it strictly for still photos and for client work, but it was amazing to shoot video with and I actually did more video than photo. I bought the X-H2s because it could handle my video needs and I was just “hoping” I’d get by for photo needs, and it’s photo capabilities really blew me out of the water, and I’ve been doing more photography with it than expected. Bottom line: having a camera that handles both is amazing. We are definitely in the era of the hybrid camera.

    Thanks for the video. This is just about the same debate I was having when Sony released the A7SIII... many were saying 12MP was not enough for photography. I was fortunate to use a Nikon D3 some years back... that had 12MP.
    Most people probably would not be able to tell the difference between 26MP and 40MP, but it is well-known that having more MP is beneficial if you need to crop an image for whatever reason.
    If you don't need the benefits a stacked sensor brings, you can save $500 and go for the X-H2 or save even more with the X-T5.

    appreciate your honest opinion. I sent my XH2 back after only a week. I agree that the megapixel increase doesn't necessarily mean a big jump in IQ. The lenses certainly make more of a difference. I remember when I first got the new xf 18mm f1.4, it made my XPro 1 look like a modern camera. If you are gonna spend money for a bump in IQ and you have the X trans 4 sensor already, I would personally first look at the newer prime lenses. If that's not enuf, then look at GFX or FF, bc XH2/40mp alone is not enuf to give you what you want IQ wise,. Performance/AF/Tech -wise, it seems to be great, tho, which is why I may repurchase it or the XT5 to use along the new primes. The zooms or less highly regarded lenses look the same IMO, other than you can crop in a little more with the 40mp.

    I’m currently using a Fuji X-T4 and have (or had) the intention of upgrading to the X-T5, but I’m having some serious doubts about doing so after watching some testing by Jerred Z. On his video I asked him if he knew of other people having AF issues and he mentioned you, so here I am (yes, I did subscribe to your channel). I don’t really need the 40 megapixel sensor (but it’s nice to have), my issue with the AF on the X-T4 isn't so much the speed, but the accuracy, I use all Fuji native lenses, both zooms and primes and I noticed that having the “green square box” on the subject doesn't necessarily mean that it’s actually in focus, it doesn’t always happen, but it’s very frustrating when it does. From what I’ve seen so far, both the X-T5 and X-H2 have a similar issue (or worse than the X-T4). At this point, I’m going to wait for more testing (by you-tubers like you) or a “serious” firmware update by Fujifilm.

    On screen and posting photos on the web you won't see much of a difference. Large prints, over 36" inches you will notice. Sometimes you can only zoom so far either with your lens or feet. In these situations you can crop and still have enough MP for a decent sized print. I do a lot of macro with Fuji's 80mm F/2.8. Its focus distance is only so close and it only magnifies so much. There are some situations because of the 40MP, I can crop and still have enough MP for a lovely 24" print. I prefer Fuji's retro UI and styling, so I have pre-ordered the X-T5.

One thing I found with the images in the blog is you did not post the full res raw files the H2 being almost 8k at 16:9 and the H2S being around 6k. More resolution doesn't always help with portrait work. What's your opinion on the XH2s for portraits? I switched from the Canon R5 because the people photos and portraits at my event photography gigs were seriously a joy to look at. Very little editing - colors looking right for skin tones. I don't know how but superb resolution compared to the X-T4 - same megapixels but phenomenal results. That's just my two cents! This video may be helpful: ua-cam.com/video/f45i7T8gBq4/v-deo.html

    Everything is a trade-off. I'm Moving from 20%Large (4x5) & 60%Medium (PhaseOne P45+) & 20% 12MP Nikon D2XS to a single system I can pack on a motorcycle.
    I've been bouncing between the X-T5 (I love the IDEA of the dials), X-H2, and the X-H2s. Based on Fuji's marketing, I should use the T5 or the H2. Lots of photos and a little video. I've put aside the T5 (truth is, the way I shoot, it would just be a style thing) and am now trying to decide between the 2 and 2s because the build quality seems to be better and I much prefer the articulating screen when I use a screen at all. I can see an advantage to either.
    The big bonus of 40MP over 26 would be the breathing room for cropping and the price. The sweet spot for smaller sensors (35mm - APS-C) is about 26MP. 40MP on a nearly 6x4.5 sensor is a different beast than 40 on an APS-C. If I were sticking to MF, I'd be looking at the GFX-100S, but the truth is, unless you're printing large, no one cares. Not even the photographer once they have it printed and have moved on to the next image. Even if you print large (and I've done a lot of 40x50 and 24x60 images), it doesn't make much difference to the non-enthusiast. At a distance, most people view a 24x60" pano - you only need 180 dpi, and you can often get by with 140.
    I know autofocus is really important to many people, but there isn't a camera made today that doesn't have vastly better autofocus than everything I own. So is the autofocus on the H2s worth the price of, say, an excellent used prime? For some, absolutely - for me, I don't know.

      @vincentkeith5259 Рік тому +1

      @@WesKriesel LOL - so I'm back to considering the T5. No decisions until I get hands on. I tend to shoot in the 150-200 range for pano's and in the 50-135 (35mm) range, for single images - although I go moderately wide (24-28) for some landscape - moreso for architecture and 35-100 for street. It depends largely on which camera I'm using - I've got one moderately long lens for the Contax 645 - nothing in 4x5. and a 70-210 for the APS-C Nikon - which was usually fine.
      I suspect the 16-55 f2.8 and and the 50-140 f2.8 based reputation and the 80mm Macro will be first - after that - I suppose maybe I'll look at the either the 1.4 Tele Converter or one of the longer zooms. Hard to say, but I expect this kick me well out of my comfort zone.

When I returned I picked-up the X-H2 for the use case of being able to crop more for landscape and bird/nature photography. I agree with you for your use case, but that is not everyone’s. Others might find a difference in shooting action sports or fast moving animals which I would expect the X-H2S to have the edge but have not had enough time with both to have a full opinion. For static shots with no movement the X-H2 pixel-shift might offer landscape or product photography advantages. I don’t shoot much video up to this point but with a new granddaughter I may start to. Right?! The R5 is a masterful camera, never fails, with resolution for days. But I was never delighted with the images, just satisfied at most. I wanted to shoot with a camera that always produced images I loved. And with the X-H2s, I can have that. And shoot professionally for projects I choose to take on. I hear you. There are probably gigs for which I'd rent an R5 instead of shooting Fuji; the X-H2s is maybe not perfect for every situation.

      @Alberto Andaloro I agree 100%. I guess if people want grainy images and pretend film simulations (I shot film for 20 years and have zero interest in the film-look) then it might be a good swap for them. For anyone who wants more realistic, more detailed, cleaner images, no way.

      It’s craziness that people are looking down on APSC and see FF as the “ultimate” for image making. Go get a 100MP medium format camera and you won’t ever go back to FF for image quality! It’s all relative. Smaller sensor doesn’t unnecessarily mean more grain, it’s how you work with the limitation of a smaller sensor and balance the light, composition and the exposure settings accordingly. Try the Sony A7R4 at ISO 1000, it’s just a grainy as an APSC camera with similarly high resolution.

      In the video he said he switched from R5 to X-H2s... He might have valid reasons for switching... I don't know what's so crazy about that. He's free to do whatever he wants to do.

      I am looking to upgrade my 7D MK2. The R7 is a serious disappointment and not up to the task for wildlife photography, well if your wildlife moves and you live a in a climate where it might rain. So, I am looking at alternatives. Because I have Canon lenses I could buy a R5 and this would cost a very similar figure to switching everything to a X-H2S and Fuji lenses.
      For me, the R5 is a pretty good camera. But it has less "reach". If you set it to crop mode you get a 17mp picture, less than my 7D Mk2! It is interesting the number of people who harp on about ff cameras and yet briders are using the crop mode all the time on the R5, you might as well buy an APS-C camera!
      The X-H2S offer 26mp, a fair bit more than 17. 40 fps is double that of the R5, and whilst that isn't everything, it helps with birds and fast moving insects.
      I haven't discounted the R5 entirely and I have shot with Canon for 30+ years but the R7 has got me thinking that they are not listening to their customers if you couple that with the extortionate cost of RF glass, and no third party glass....... Well, let's say that Canon is not what it used to be. I liked the old Canon, the new one........................ not so much.

    You should check your blog post again, the differences are massive but it seems like you uploaded way lower res versions of the xh2s photos 1108x738 vs 2300x1533 for the xh2

      I'll definitely double check the files on the blog post, but just to be transparent, for my analysis and talking points, I formulated all my conclusions by examining the files on my desktop computer (Mac M1 Mini + LG 5k monitor) in Capture One.

      Ah, good question! I purchased the new version of the 56mm F/1.2 lens specifically to test with the 40MP sensor. The lens is on the compatibility list from Fuji.

    Yeah. 40 Mp may be on a full frame camera, on a crop sensor there is more noise. On the XT5, it might be better if they but the old 26 MP instead of the 40 MP. 40 MP will be hard on the CPU when recording video and they have to skip lines in 4K without crop. So over all, 40 k is bad for crop sensor and current CPU power. You gain little resolution but get more noise. It’s not worth it. And the file is big also.

    • @WesKriesel
      @WesKriesel  Рік тому

      Hi! Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment. To my untrained eye, I didn't detect more noise from the 40MP sensor at regular exposure settings. When I cranked the ISO, however, the X-H2 did not perform anywhere near the X-H2s in terms of usable shots at high ISO.

    I don't know what ISO your ferris wheel shots were taken out, but the noise was terrible. I wouldn't take two X-H2 cameras for an R5. They are NOT a suitable replacement for anyone who wants clean images and superior autofocus.
