    I do frame out restorations on these machines. I love them for their simplicity.

    You can get the exhaust header ceramic coated to cut down on the heat in your engine bay

    So I build the parts for these ( brake and sheer shop in Ontario) my papa and I have had a OLD Argo from back in the day, I’m contemplating a Honda 600R motor swap

    Biggest problem with 6x6/8x8 is engine cooling especially when an air cooled engine is used .
    All u need to do is manufacture duct work to motor air inlet . Most early Argo and similar had dedicated duct work for both inlet and exhaust airflow exit .

    Superb work. Hope you get years of great performance out of the Honda engine.

    Did a Honda v twin swap in an Argo back into 98", had and ended up with off set clutch issue. The belt, after swap, with a with a "Power Block" clutch would angle improperly upon open thottle. Never did figure our why. Young and ignorant I guess. Ran like a champ though.

    Honda GX v twins are great engines. i`ve owned 4 of them. Only thing is they like to have partial choke for a few minutes while warming up otherwise theres a small throttle hesitation.

    You would think a computer run fuel injected engine would run great and compensate for elevation changes.
    I’m curious to see how the power difference between the 28 hp Subaru and the Honda 22.1 hp (16.5 kW) @ 3,600 rpm. Can’t wait for the test run video. Thanks

    • @EricFB
      @EricFB  2 роки тому

      That was my initial hope. Engine history is unknown - could be high hr. It’s a pretty low tech FI system. Reminds me of when VW started making their flat 4’s FI in the 70’s. Honda 690 runs great. Once I can carve a slice out of my schedule I’ll put up a video of it in action. Cheers!

  • @DoRC

    Awesome project but surely you could have fixed whatever was wrong with the Subaru fuel injection for less time and effort than that took.

    • @leroylefort5069
      @leroylefort5069 2 роки тому +1

      Yes, a much needed valve adjustment and a little maintenance. Subaru and Kawasaki are both equally as good as Honda engines.

    • @AwDaleYeah
      @AwDaleYeah 2 роки тому +1

      @@leroylefort5069 lmaooooo no. Not a chance lmao. I legit service industrial wash equipment, almost all of which use a v twin. Honda and vanguard are the only ones that hold up.

    • @leroylefort5069
      @leroylefort5069 2 роки тому

      Haha, that's great. But I have 30 years on those small engines, it may be model specific for the area and type of equipment using them. Nice project , good luck. 👍

    • @EricFB
      @EricFB  2 роки тому

      Possibly. A big fat no depending who’s asking. Problem with the Subaru is they stopped supporting them in ~2015. Parts are scarce and support is non existent in terms of diagrams that go inside the FI module. Haven’t given up, I’ll try to get it going again this summer for another project. Mud motor attached to a floating dock maybe? Check back in a bit, cheers!

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC 2 роки тому

      @@EricFB oh yeah if there's not support from the manufacturer that's definitely a problem. I didn't realize that they didn't support them anymore.

    That really seems to make things more accessible in the engine compartment.
    I might need one of those for my 99 conquest?? Is the starter accessible with that Honda? Mine is between the engine and transmission. It would be a nightmare in the bush!

    I have a 90's model argo 8x8 with tracks, it has an old 18 hp briggs in it and it needs more power for sure. I was thinking of an engine swap, if anyone has any ideas or knows of anything else I need to change along with a higher hp engine, I would greatly appreciate any feedback. I would pay someone to do the job but I live in southeast Texas and Noone around here I've spoken to really knows anything about them (including me) or they just act uninterested in doing the job. Argos just aren't that common around me I suppose.

    What was the issue with the Kawasaki?... i have an 8x8 conquest like this with tge FD620D engine. When i thrash it hard recoveting a moose from the bush, i get an issue where the carboretter bowl gets so hot, the fuel is boiling up. It is driving me nuts & I have not yet figured out a fix or a root cause.

    • @EricFB
      @EricFB  6 місяців тому

      The Kawasaki engine was already out when I got this Conquest. I just replaced the he engine he had in it for the Honda. Brand new + Honda reliability. In your case I’m not sure. Make sure your cooling system is fully operational (rad plugged with mud/ leafs etc) heat shields in place, air filter not clogged etc. I do believe these struggle to keep cool when worked hard in the heat but worth giving it a look over. Good luck

    Personally, I would just strip back the Honda wiring, easy to find out which wire from the original harness triggers the solenoid, find a direct power lead for the backfire prevention solenoid, if it has one.
    Find out which wire's go to the charging system and hook them up accordingly.
    But that's just me, I love small engine wiring, I'm the type of person who puts a back fire prevention solenoid back on a machine, after somebody cut one off.
    Small engine or tractor wiring, definitely isn't as hard as a lot of people make it look.
    I like those stand-alone engines with the key switch, but they are definitely very easy to wire up correctly.
