- After the recent fight with Arlecchino, I was kind of surprised at how easily she beat the Traveler. So, I decided to reevaluate every single battle from Traveler's past and check their actual power level. Who was helping them and who wasn't, what was the situation at the time, etc. And the results are quite surprising as you can see from the video's title (at least for combat prowess). I hope you enjoy the video :D

Plot armor & power of friendship is a dangerous comfort zone, and losing against Arlecchino is a wake up slap with "you are not invincible, and you are not the main character of this world".

We lost against Arlecchino by literally forgetting we could use something other than our swords lol. I don’t know why we couldn’t use our elemental powers, when we clearly did in the cutscene with Navia or early in Inazuma. The fight with Arlecchino should have at least ended in a draw.

But Traveler is invincible like Zamasu.
They just can't defeat others but they cannot die either. That's why no one was able to eliminate them. Sustainer also failed to eliminate them and so just sealed them.
Traveler can only be sealed or made unconscious but cannot be eliminated. This is like Mafuba used against Zamasu.

One of the few "truths" that we were given throughout the game is first spoken by Zhongli, in that we are "witnesses". Furina knows this too - and this would require a book in and by itself. We are not the protagonists of the story of Teyvat, rather we are catalysts: we either set up events, or partake, or we get them unstuck in some moments. We are not supposed to be the "hero" of the story, we're not even out there for that reason. We're a fairly regular someone trapped in a bigger scheme who helps those around him out of goodwill (from the traveler perspective at least, I strongly believe that all of this is guided) so it's only fair that we don't go around mopping the floor with deities, demigods and legendary monsters. We are to "see" what happens, and the Fontaine arc made this particularly explicit. We were to see the prophecy unfold and be countered, that's all.
Ahh. No wonder I feel nothing for the travellers whereas the Trailblazers are still one of my favourite characters in media

@@luisfillipebeserra2108 I believe that the whole Neuvillette plot is a big foreshadowing: traveler is going around with his own agenda, yet strangely enough he meets friends at every turn, and helps them avert crisis here and there - keyword here being traveler helps them, not the other way around. That's the role he was cast to play - like Furina - and it is my understanding that by the end of the journey we will have accrued enough care for a world technically alien to us that when we get to actually act, we will do so in service of the world, rather than just say "k tnx bye" which could've easily been the case.
Plus, given the narrative style of Travail, I believe it's possible that the journey is being recounted rather than being presently lived: a FFX scenario if you will, where we re-live what happened and all the things we have witnessed, before going back to a present where our role as "witness" is over, and we finally get to "act", like Dain implied.

Alot of people seem to ignore that power and knowledge is also important factor,Traveler got skill and experience, but that is not enough. The god we fought had way more power than sealed traveler, that why we need help and buff from another, that why they gave traveler their power,because we are reliable, like they could have give the power to other people and shake ei will but yae can't, because they're not capable

It makes me think of what Zhongli said in his story quest. The traveler is a witness to Teyvat. Rather than being the strongest, we're just a strong person seeing everyone and everything in the world.
Seeing all these fights back to back made me think of that as well
In the end the traveler is just a witness, they're not supposed to be some sort of warrior, fighting is something they're good at of course but being a fighter isn't their role in the story but rather to experience what teyvat has to offer and remember it (or else without them the truth could be lost or changed forever thanks to Irminsal)

I mean I would agree if the traveler was just a witness but he isn’t they are a crucial piece in the story. They literally helped save every nation they have visited and they are a descender which is a person that has the willpower to rival an entire world. They are definitely not just witnesses.

Traveler at the end of the story will literally become the god of Teyvat. Sorry for the spoiler, but it's literally written in his/her story.
The traveller is basically a host for others peoples's wishes.
They receive buffs from others and with those buffs, they try to help those peoples.

I think the biggest problem with the Traveler right now is Hoyo is telling us but not showing it. We constantly hear about how strong the Traveler are but never showing it to us players.
The traveler insinuated a few times that the stories about them are dramatically different from reality when people ask. It's essentially a game of telephone where people add details that make them sound better than they really are. The traveler usually has the option to have a big head about how "strong" or "renowned" they are or not.
It is true that no matter how much time passes, the dull blade will always exist, it is the strongest weapon in the game :)

The traveler isn't a joke. The real jokes is the writing team who don't know how to sell a character without making the traveler looking weak. I am not saying he should win, but at least hoyo should have let him use his 5 elements and put a better fight.
Seriously, you'd think it's obvious that not just completely humiliating the traveler would just serve to make Arlecchino look even better for beating them.
More like they have no idea whatsoever what they're doing. I think Arle would've won against the traveler no matter how many elements they used, but making them use more than 1% of their power after which Arle defeats them just as easily would NOT make Arle look weaker.
I have the same problem with Raiden killing Signora. Signora was just defeated and forced to transform back by the traveler, Raiden killing Signora in that state only makes her look like an executioner. If that wasn't part of the rules of the duel, I would personally get the impression that Raiden is actually a weakling.
@@astra8372 wtf are you yapping about regarding Raiden, in a duel before the throne, Raiden IS the executioner to whoever loses the duel, or whoever loses to *her.* The Traveler challenged Signora, thus Raiden was per code and programming not allowed to fight Signora herself.

Traveler didn't win against Shogun though.
She beat his ass in the first fight, then the second was technically a stalemate, she just conceded at the end.
Not to mention that the Harbingers are ranked by strength from 1st to 11th and Arlecchino is rank 4th. and while they did beat Childe, they did struggle with that fight. so personally I feel that this take is a little misguided. In gameplay absolutely, traveler is consistently lackluster, but story-wise it makes sense for them to have lost that.
Let's not forget that Ei has the endurance to do a mirror match fight for 500 years.
but traveler was still standing strong while signora couldn't even stand straight or even attempt to fight back against raiden. it might be cuz of her arrogance, that she underestimated the traveler but a lose is still a lose
Not to mention that the traveler was buffed a lot in the rematch and it could be speculated that Ei wasn't at her full strength in that fight

Traveler is definitely not the strongest being in Tevyat, but i don't think he's as weak as some people said, he still soloed Childe and Signora, that's undeniable, which means that Traveler's current power is above them, even in the battle that he assist, Traveler is still one of the main and vital combat power
Yes, it is true that adepti's power greatly help in the defeat of osial, but let's not forget that it is they themselves that said that Traveler is the only one with constitution strong enough to hold all their power, in the battle with shogun and Ei, it is true that we " won" due to the wills of all Inazuma, but i think everyone forget that we are the only warrior in the entire Inazuma that could last long against Shogun
In the battle against god-scaramouche, yes, we are GREATLY assisted by Nahida's power and Hax, but even Nahida can't defeat scaramouche alone, Traveler are the only one with strong enough constitution to become a warrior proxy for Nahida

childe wasnt beaten by traveler. he was beaten by his own foul legacy, tiring himself out faster than it needs to be. in other words he just running out of time.

@@briantarigan7685 Still didn't change the fact that the Traveler 90% of the time is knocked unconscious, getting kidnapped by randoms, hypnotized, and so on. Still also didn't change the fact that even after learning that many elements, the Traveler didn't use any of it nor shows proper power struggle against the enemy without getting maximum buffed.
Traveler basically stole the credits on most of the fights, and is only good for being a "Vessel" for all this godly powers around it. And as it is said, winning against Signora is not a valid reason when the Traveler is basically knocked unconscious by anything other that is weaker than her.
It's bad writing, seriously.
The one thing that I don't like is how the game fails to properly display the capabilities of the traveler's power at least at this stage in the story. When it comes to any other character they have no problem (like shenhe freezing an entire tidal wave)
Its even more evident in the arlecchino boss fight because that simply doesn't look like a traveler thats been through five nations, that acquired 5 elements and has them at their disposal, and that has been in countless life or death fights. He would've still lost cuz rank 4th is crazy, but from the current traveler I expected a better showing.

I disagree with “Hoyo just hates Signora,” I think Childe got stronger since the Golden House. He is always fighting and training his skills, as seen in the Labyrinth Warriors event.
Childe is like a true Shounen protagonist that he is getting stronger and stronger. The reason why he is still 11th is same as why Naruto is still a Genin after 4th Shinobi War
(copied from my other comment) even back at the Golden House, if people even tried to remember the dialogue he literally states after we "defeat him" that the foul legacy took a toll on his body and that he "didn't think this through". this is further confirmed by the achievement you get for beating that boss fight which reads "I'll Let You Off... This Time", I don't think the traveler would be the one saying that, right? maybe back then the traveler did indeed match his vision form. but as you can see in the first cutscene as soon as he switched to his delusion we were on the ground... that is until we used elemental powers, but there's no way to know if we would have beaten delusion childe if the fight had continued after that scene, because instead, childe lost his cool and activated his foul legacy which is probably the reason he lost the fight, ironically, for the reasons I stated above. I feel like the only people who remember these details are people who actually like the character such as myself, while other people have many misconceptions about him.

im not a childe glazer but ever since every fight except signora, it's always scratched my head that we're always falling short
and then looking back eventually (about a year ago) I was like "did we even beat childe fairly?"
this guy about as old us as activated his self-kill mode, one which we know he's less experienced in as that mf was out cold for like a year recovering, allat when he was destroying us already AND had an ulterior, poltiical agenda...

anyways yeah, no, traveller isn't nearly at the level of harbinger yet, about as strong as an overworld boss is more accurate since I think at full potential we can solo them
and canonically we're probably fighting them with food preperation, supplies, scouting, camping out, and just general stuffs to make our time easier
it doesn't help that, besides adventuring, we don't really have proper help to master our elements
so we're going with the most subpar and uncreative geo, electro, hydro, dendro (love this one tho), and anemo prowess beating up thugs

@@ghetoknight7801 I think Traveller is actually stronger than Signora, but definitely weaker than Childe. This "Harbingers ranked by strength" is English localization buIIshlt, and some Harbingers can be stronger than the ones above them, because while the Traveller beat Signora without any problem, he admitted in the next patch event, that Childe is certainly stronger than Signora now, and stronger than the Traveller himself.
Meet the Traveler, Genshin's "Potential Man". Only as strong or as smart as the writers decide. And sadly, the writers are playing spin-the-bottle with every new quest.

As for the La Signora fight, I personally believe that though she had the strength of the 8th position when appointed, she gradually lost a lot of fighting strength due to her Cryo Delusion and the Crimson Flame eating away at her. Also makes sense that her title is "The Crimson Witch of Embers" as she is not the "The Crimson Witch of Flames" she once was.
Maybe also why she had resorted to diplomacy over violence throughout the Prologue & Acts: 1 & 2 of the Archon Quests.
Side note: The Traveler has simply acted as a catalyst for the main plot events and fights through which much more powerful entities can take action and by themselves, they simply aren't that powerful.
The real reason she lost is pretty simple. It's bad writing since they needed to have a Fatui weekly boss in Inazuma despite not being the right time to end her story, since now she is one of the sore spots within the community as wasted potential. I don't think players even accept her defeat since they could've easily made her escape, but she had to die since there were no plans to make her playable.

@@proto245 I wouldn't say bad writing. The Traveler fighting and winning against the 8th harbinger after handling their own against the 11th isn't all that bad of an expectation. Now, Raiden stepping forth and taking the W is bad writing as...yes, Signora could've escaped after losing to us.
Yeah that's one thing a lot of people don't realize; Signora was once known as the "Crimson Witch of Flames" and is now known as the "Crimson Witch of Embers", implying that her flames are no where near as destructive as it used to be.
It's also worth mentioning that her boss-drop item description states that "her flames turned to embers over the years" or something; I'm pretty sure this is the game saying that she became a lot weaker from the time she was appointed
@@proto245 The issue here isn't her death itself but Traveler beating a fairly high ranked Fatui. They could've made any reason for Signora breaching any made-up duel etiquette and Raiden killing her before the duel was over, or Signora being nerfed by some off-screen event but we beat her fair and square right then and there, which doesn't line up with prowess of other Harbingers.
Some elements literally have not even been used once for no reason.

It also bothers me a lot that the devs seemingly make Traveler's kit ass on purpose. He was actually decent with Dendro, so hoyo made extra sure to ruin his Hydro kit.
Traveler is also listed as a 5 star, yet has 4 star level multipliers. It's like they're doing everything they can to dissuade us from using him.
Agree, I understand they want people to pull for the other characters, but there is no excuse for the traveller's kit to be so underwhelming.
They seemed pathetic to me with how they chose to treat Hydro Traveler, but my annoyance started as soon as Geo/Electro (Anemo is still a bit fun for me to pop out, even if its far from great, its a nice starter).
Genshin makes shittons of cash. So so much money. People will pay just as much even if Traveler even approaches meta. There's various parts of Genshin Impact that I have to just shake my head at why they do it when the same money will come in regardless. There's no excuse for Hydro Traveler, just zero.

The inconsistency is the problem. Genshin's writing is too focused on showing off new characters and the such.
Exactly. They've always been pretty inconsistent in terms of story development and, specially, power level. The Seven are a powerful bunch who won a war spaning several thousand of years and rules the land. The Harbringers are a bunch 'serving' one member of the seven. Yet their portrayal of them is like the opposite. I'm not even going to insert the Hexenzirkle into this. Who knows what they make of them. Maybe the Archons are only alive because Alice is on vacation. Maybe the Sovereigns lost because Surtalogi was taking a nap or something lol.
I just hope to see more consistency in this regard. Hope they pay attention to this and try better.

The way how I see it Childe is always improving so it stands to reason he could have passed Signora in power who is long dead. Plus he spent at least 40 days fighting that whale and survived to tell the tale. Traveller however has shown no such dedication to get stronger and just half heartedly moves between the regions collecting elements like pokemon and doing nothing to practice them. Like come on Nahida tells you the top 3 of an antagonist organization you keep fighting are god tier and number 2 already knocked you out by just being in the room. You think you can get away with no training? In fact, Childe even scratched Neuvillette to show how much he has grown, meanwhile Traveller can't even move against Arlecchino.
You know why? Because Tartaglia is the true goat, he's a gigachat, he is the main character he's always improving and getting stronger. He's doing his best and I believe in his abilities as childe main I have pure faith in him 🗿

Imagine - the fight against Capitano is doing badly. After a particularly powerful strike, the Dull Blade shatters. So the Traveler has to pull all stops... and take out the silver blade.

@z.e.v Indeed, that is also an important detail at that point is that Foul Legacy drained Childe much faster and Childe acted rashly and fought more recklessly than he would usually.
Not like that really matters to the Signora point. For me, we surpassed Liyue Childe (Foul Legacy Included) by Inazuma, but as of Fontaine, Foul Legacy Childe seems to be above us.

@@luisfillipebeserra2108I think it was stated by the company itself that he spent a lot of time in the primordial sea, and even if you don't care about him, which I still respect you as a person, but back to the point, he's getting stronger and stronger. He's only increasing in his abilities and improving his skills as childe main I have never doubted in his abilities, and I always put my faith on him because I know that he's only getting stronger. I believe in him that's why 🗿

-Traveller Got thrown by Osial's wife breath (Beisht)
-Got knock down by Scaramouche's purple fart on the Inazuma AQ Quest
-Defeated by Raiden but was saved by Thoma (as the video showed)
-Nearly got slashed by Raiden but was saved by powered up Kazuha with his dead friend's vision
-Early get defeated by Raiden again but got saved by Yae and 100 visions on statue
-Got defeated 168x by Scaramouche but again saved with a power up from Kusanali and with the help of Sumeru citizen
The fight between Arlecchino and the Traveller w/ the trio probably only(?) for shock value. That being said, the cut scene where Arlecchino said "Still...not strong enough to beat me" might suggests that she is expecting the Traveller to get stronger at some point during his journey? Also, from my perspective, the Traveller is more of a "catalyst" to the natives of Teyvat to defeat their enemies rather than just naturally powerful.
I'd like to make 1 note about the 168 battles against Scaramouche. Those 168 loops were all within SCARAMOUCHE'S DREAM, since that was who the power of dreams was used on.

It's impressive that the same company that has Kiana Kaslana, is the one that has the Traveler, because the difference in how they write their protagonists is so huge!
The Traveler to me at this point is just...a plot device, not even a character, and I really liked them a lot in the beginning. Compared to Kiana and even the Trailblazer (even the other protagonists from the other Hoyo games) they just flop.
The Kiana from the beginning of HI3 is very different from the one in the middle, who is different from the one in the end of part 1. We see her change, grow, cry, grieve, fight tooth and nail to protect her friends, get stronger , get new powers and even sacrifice herself. Kiana chooses things by herself and death affects her to the end. From Herrscher of the Void, to Flamescion to Herrscher of Finality.
The Traveler doesn't change, even after all their battles and adventures they're still static, the same. Most experiences of the past ventures don't follow through in the ''character's'' mind unless it's very convenient, the few deaths we have, not even Signora's, don't stick to their mind or change them or develop them much. It's like they're a blank sheet at the beginning of every nation. All that happens in one nation stays in said nation, until it's convenient for the Traveler or Paimon to remember it happened. Most of the time, the Traveler doesn't act because they want to, but because someone asks them to, or Paimon just pushes them into doing it. ''Right Traveler?''.
And that's when they're not being inconsistent or annoying, like in the Furina quest. I can't believe that the Traveler who saw all of Furina's struggles and pains is the same one in the quest.
Even in their objective of finding their sibling, is something that's only brought up once or twice in the Archon Quests, so we can remember that it's what they actually want. Because it really doesn't seem like they want that, most of the time they seem to forget their sibling and we spend another year without them ever mentioning the other.
They have 5 elements at their disposal, but they never use it in battle. They could be a Avatar-like character, causing multiple reactions at a time and make battles super dynamic but they don't. It's just wasted potential at this point. The Traveler doesn't need to be overpowered and can still lose, but them not using all the experience they have is just weird.
Don't even get me started on the furina quest... "I still need answers" angered me so much. Like to traveler that was the ONLY REASON worth saving her! And then the way they treated her [in CN ITS WORSE!]

While there are five elements, the game states that only one can be used at a time. Claiming that the Traveler doesn't use elemental powers is untrue. There are numerous cutscenes where they use elemental powers. The main power of the Traveler is light, not the seven elements. Without light, the Traveler is better at sword fighting than using elemental energy. Trying to use elemental energy against someone like Arlechinno is ineffective: Geo (throwing a small rock at an elephant), Electro (trying to electrocute a tiger with a 1-volt battery), Hydro (throwing a water balloon at a whale's head), Anemo (blowing air in someone's face), Dendro (throwing seeds at a lion's head). Why would the Traveler use these powers for no reason, only to waste stamina? I can provide at least ten examples of cutscenes where the Traveler uses powers off the top of my head.
The Traveler has changed. In Liyue and Mondstadt, the Traveler helped without asking too many questions, showing immature behavior. In Inazuma, the Traveler tried a lot to avoid getting involved on any side and to avoid fighting anyone. In Dendro, the Traveler is much smarter; they think a lot before making decisions and know their role in all of it.
So yes, the Traveler is not like Kiana because Kiana is not a self-insert type of protagonist like the Traveler. The Traveler's personality is intentionally bland to make it easier for most players to identify with them. However, over time, the Traveler undergoes more development and matures. In the current state of the game, they show a lot more intelligence than they did at the start. And let me prove this, is dificult to find traveler haters, but kiana haters? lmao everywhere in the comunity.

Still, it is granted that this whole debacle could've been avoided by simply giving a single showcase of Traveller's elemental power.
Traveler is strong, no more further arguments than previous statement, however one man fighter cannot survive without any reinforcement nor buff, which was the reason why Traveler seems like a deflated balloon in the middle of crisis from beginning (Dvalin rampage at Mondstadt City) to Arlecchino Boss. This is also why Traveler and Traveler's Sibling are one team, the implications was very clear that Traveler's true strength was from teamwork.

Interesting how the video failed to mention that the reason the traveler was knocked out in Fontaine was due to a heightened hydro sensitivity caused by drinking water of the primordial sea that was intended to dissolve Navia, which allowed the Oceanid in the fountain to basically mindnap them.
Mind you this water wasn't the impure stuff in the Sinthe Vasher was distributing, but the unadulterated stuff added to a beverage with the intent to silence someone permanently.
In Sumaru, it was probably from it being their first exposure to the incense, and partially from Rukkadavata reaching out. I'm pretty sure it would be normal to have an intense trip when exposed to a new psychedelic drug for the first time and I'm sure it was not a small amount either seeing as that researcher had been using it meditate for a while and people tend to build up tolerances to drugs over time and thus needing higher doses to achieve the same effect.
As for the memory clone of Scara's mech, that was a surprise attack from an enemy that the traveler has already defeated, who's pilot was standing in front of them. So it's bull that they used the traveler being supprised by the laser attack as evidence.
Dottore is also a different matter, he is literally an evil scientist who has gone through great lengths to research the human body, and exploited a weakness that most flesh and blood creatures have, sound waves, specifically frequencies out of a typical person's range of hearing. He also did this out of the blue when the traveler had just finished fighting Scara and had let down their guard.
Most of the things the video shows as signs of the traveler being weak would also affect most of the other characters just as badly if not worse (as with Fontaine characters and the primordial seawater). While I agree that the traveler is, as they are now, is not overpowering god level threats on their own, heck most of the Fatui Harpenders could take them out, the OP seems to be conveniently ignoring aspects of the story where the traveler can actually stand on their own against strong opponents. Not sure if it is just because they didn't look deep enough into the lore and story of the game, or they just enjoy bashing the traveler.
Personally I clicked on the video expecting actual observations and keen insight into why they think the traveler is a fraud, but was highly disappointed by this surface level observations and shallow reasoning.
Can't believe UA-cam recommended this to me after a Game Theory video, the difference in quality is jarring. I've seen other genshin theories from other creators and at least when they question the traveler's power level they use actually evidence other than complaining about how many times the traveler has gotten help or passed out after literally being poisoned or drugged. I agree with most of what you say, except the part where you think this channel isn't good. Most of the content is good but this particular one seemed like a traveler diss track. They should be comparing things to normal people from teyvat. Not the unfair things that happen.
Poison or things that are considered one shots shouldn't be included. Poisons that would cripple anyone else even with medicine should be a pro, not a con.
Traveler's power level is very inconsistent, but he seems to be getting stronger after unlocking each element. The same way he got buffed, most of his "losses" are related with somekind of debuffs, poisons and as you said, psychological attacks.
Childe's position isn't related directly with his power level, but also with the fact he is the last and youngest among them, and he is not much important to the operations in other ways further than fighting. Also, he says in his story quest he got stronger than the day we fought. We must remember he is a teenager yet, he is evolving like us.
The story is definitely flawed, the traveller is able to jump great distances and great heights and at the same time too slow to escape out of a dungeon swallowed by a desert. Stories are sometimes flawed to invoke emotions, there may exist irregularities.
But few things are certain -
Traveller is strong from strength perspective. And he is regaining his strength or using the elements to fill the void.
He maybe affect or void of capabilities that seem common for people in tevat.
Also last but not the least, he has immense conviction and bravery. He has no fear and always the first to fight.
Some people have this misconception that being a descender and having 'will to rival the world' means the traveller will have to become the most powerful being in teyvat, also overlooking that many people helped him in each fight throughout the journey, Thank you for making this video to highlight this.
The reason why Traveler needs so much help to deal with these threats is because he hasn't regained all his power yet. Him having the will to rival the whole world likely means he will one day rise above all as the most powerful entity in Teyvat, as is the case with literally any other Descender.
That's right, the only thing thatTraveler has on their favor to "rival the world", is that they aren't chained to "Destiny" (I could even put them in a comparison with Kiana from Honkai; not in power, nor story of course; but in circumstances. Traveler is absolutely out of the story, while Kiana is in a mid-region where she IS and IS NOT Kiana Kaslana; since, biologically, Durandal is Kiana, while Kiana is half Kiana and Half Sirin..... But that's why she could surpass Finality's power and control; I think Traveler is in some kind of similar situation of being a Liminal Entity; he is and isn't part of Teyvat's Destiny/Fortune/Finality at the same time)

My personal theory about signora is that she was already dying. Especially since she emerged from that ice cocoon as her fiery self. The traveler just pushed her over the edge she was already standing on for a long time.

Not upgrading the MC at any point is going to be a trouble in storytelling when it's necessary. You can't have the traveller continuously needed to have anyone buffing them when the threats are getting crazier and crazier. Story telling wise, it's a terrible writing that shows no development in their journey. It's already bad enough they didn't show much development in characterisation

Canonically, the traveler is supposed to get stronger with each element they collect, but Mihoyo hasn't done a good job of demonstrating that. Also, it does make sense that one of traveler's greatest strengths, a high afinity for the elements, is also a weakness that can be exploited against them, since that was what happened in Sumeru with the incense and in Fontaine with the oceanid.
Still this makes me miss the days of Ho3 where protagonists were allowed to be badass powerhouses. It's hard to believe these stories are written by the same people when the quality differs so much.
1. this stories most certainly aren't written by same people, i doubt even genshin itself has same writers for these 3 years. 2. even in hi3rd we had Bronya who was basically power boost for other characters 4 times in a row, and she is one of the main characters. hoyo plot writing is mid in general, the lore is cool tho, in both games. but dialogue and plot parts suffer a lot
I hope that Traveler's defeat in the Arlecchino fight will actually serve a purpose plotwise and he'll get some sort of training in Natlan since it's a nation of war and the last stop before Snezhnaya

Technically, Arlecchino is the closest thing we have to "God-level" without being "God-level", so it makes perfect sense that the Traveller is weaker than her.
The thing is: Traveller is a "Witness", he sits back and watches as things unfold, he isn't one to take direct charge unless necessary. Also, Hoyo wants to hype up their characters so that they will sell more, so they won't have Traveller taking the spotlight.
When will the Genshin team realize that they can do the "5* character marketing" without making Traveler look extremely bad

Facing off against one of the top 10 strongest beings in all of Teyvat and being called strong doesn't make the Traveler look bad at all. Traveler is nerfed; they don't have access to their light powers. Of course, they would lose against one of the strongest beings in Teyvat.

To sell the character through the story. In navia questline, aether literally get sideline to the point he got aid against a frickin boulder by navia. Im glad in hsr even if mc doesnt win against cornerstone aventurine, he still use his lance and tried his best, hell even aventurine actually recognize the lance. Thats enough prove that trailblazer actually IMPROVES.
My thoughts exactly. They need to nerf the traveller to highlight the other characters. The flame lady that stole Venti's Gnosus lost pathetically to the Traveller because she was not playable.
This is the actual truth. Genshin’s team will never allow the traveler to upstage the playable characters. Whether it’s in kit or cutscenes, traveler will always be made to play second fiddle to the limited characters.
And this seems like a thing exclusive to Genshin where they regularly embarrass the main character to prop up the others.
Traveler also improves but you just want him/her to become OP generic trash isekai MC who never lose and no need to get help from another people. Also HSR is only 1 year, the same time traveler defeat signora with his/her own power. the "real" threat in HSR is not come out yet.

This is why Trailblazer/Kiana are better protagonist than the traveler. They have inate powers that awaken within them unlike the traveler that keeps on depending to others for support.

Despite the trailblazer only being on their journey for 1 year, I can say that they are stronger than the current day traveler.
We have seen huge growth in the trailblazer over the past year, and not just in raw power.
I remember just how epic it was seeing the trailblazer unlock the powers of preservation for the first time and face Cocolia alone.
Them trudging on in the Xianzhou… and now about to get a major power up with the harmony path. Possibly in a more grand and epic way than when they unlocked the preservation
And the trailblazer actually uses the new powers they obtain. Like for example in the aventurine fight.
I don’t think there was a single scene where traveler used hydro or dendro, and there’s only 2 scenes where they used 2 elements at once

in terms of the harbinger power ranking, i think it's based off of all factors of "power".
for example; physically, tartaglia is most likely one of the strongest of the fatui in regards to his raw strength, abyssal powers, and pure fighting capability, but he isn't very smart at all, and he's also still a young human man, hence why he's 11th. pantalone on the other hand might not be nearly as strong physically (he doesnt have a vision *yet*), but his economical influence and intelligence is without question incredibly powerful. in a lot of circumstances, brains is stronger than brawn.
those who have leverage on both sides are much higher up. like dottore, who not only is exceptionally intelligent but most likely also physically powerful combat-wise, and arlecchino, who has an entire intelligence network at her fingertips as well as her crimson-moon powers.

This reminds me of comics. Who would win... the one the writer wants. The traveler's power fluctuates to fit the story. We won't die from poisons in the chasm or cleaning up after the explosion in the Fontaine Research Institute but some incense knocks us out.
I’m definitely not the only one that was extremely disappointed when the traveler didn’t use a single element during the entire arlecchino fight. He should’ve at least dealt some hits.
Considering the sheer number of occasions when Traveler falls unconscious - its not the statement of Traveler being weak, but the direct statement of Traveler relying mostly on sheer physique and swordsmanship instead of elemental powers and non-physical resistances. Which, ultimately, leads to the fact of laziness engulfed hoyo writers, because there is zero other reasons why character whose main power is enormous elemental connectivity would use anything besides such.
Honestly, the only thing I'm kinda mad about the fight with Arlecchino is that they never use ANY elemental powers. Like WHAAAA???

13:33 The reason why Childe seems strong now is because he's been training. He himself has stated that he's much stronger now than in our liyue battle with him. I think he said that in his story quest, so you can only imagine how much stronger he's gotten since then. Also, Signora being a higher rank than Childe doesn't mean she's physically stronger than him. We know that the harbinger ranks are not based on combat ability alone.

Full power, yes, but traveler fought a god that is probably much more powerful than an archon, Sustainer is often theorized to be one of primordial one's shades, and primordial one essentially reformed the entirety of teyvat. Also, it seems that Sustainer also destroyed khaenriah, which was probably a very powerful and influential nation, seeing as there are many khaenriah remains all over teyvat
Also worth noting about the opening, the Traveler is disarmed and separated from their sibling. Others have noted their fighting styles are meant to compliment the other, so the Traveler was fighting unarmed and without the aid of their sibling.
They are strong enough to cross the imaginary barriers of the imaginary tree, this is more feat than many characters in hoyoverse universe can do

Damn I just realized, fuck using elemental powers. Traveler doesn’t even infuse their dull blade with elements when fights. Dendro+hydro+electro infusion=boom profit. But they didn’t do even that, they indeed seem like something superficial for that world.

It seems that the traveler has inconsistent use of his powers as well. It’s already been established they can use multiple elements at once yet they always seem to want to prove the dull blade is all he needs lol

i'm sure they'll get stronger over time, after all, signora whooped their ass in mondstat, but still got wiped in inazuma by them. This makes me believe that the more elements the traveler unlocks, the stronger they'll get. By the time they get the "light" element thing that they had when they fought the principles, i'm sure they'll be as strong as an archon

I know the traveler is very weak compared to arlecchino but man that fight cutscene really let me dissapointed in general not because the traveler lost but because the traveler seems to not try at all, like they use just common sword slashes with no elemental powers or nothing (let's remember the travelers have 5 elements as of now), I think it would have been more exciting if they made the traveler really try and use various elemental powers but in the end still be crushed by arlecchino, that would have been more epic and impactful.
I really hate the fact the traveler seems to have forgotten how to use multiple elements, i mean, come on, i understand him losing vs Arlecchino, but not why the writers didn't consider him at least using his elemental powers to fight her, i mean, he does have access to 5 of them already after all...
Love all these lore videos. Well researched and always offer so much information about parts of the game lore that might not make sense at first (like how the Traveller ended up losing to the Knave)
I think it was mentioned somewhere that the fatui harbingers are not necessarily ranked according to their strength (how strong they are in fights). I think thats why we beat signora, childe is probably more powerful than her but there are other reasons as to why she was the 8th and not just raw strength. I am pretty sure childe is also stronger than pantalone (the regrator) and maybe also the rooster but the reason why they're higher than childe might be because they have other skills like pantalone and finances and rooster as a political figure. (not sure about the finances part of regrator, correct me if im wrong). Also childe is pretty young compared to the rest so maybe even experience is taken into account.
No one who buys the rank = combat strength has been able to justify Pantalone being above Childe to me yet.

the battle with childe... we never finish the battle... so technically speaking we don't get to defeat him either since he did not seem weakened at all... just a thought I had (edit: in the cutscene I meant. i was watching this part with my cousin who recently started the game. directly after he was weakened but only due to the effects of his foul legacy. but he quite quickly seemed fine and made himself a water bubble and escaped off soo... yh the only reason we could actually say we beat him is due to the effects. otherwise I think he could've gone on much longer which he did do in fontaine against the whale. i think it was said he kept it busy for months or smth)
and about 10:04, the way I see it... the attack was too fast, that much is obvious. traveller was focussing on scara after all.
against signora confuses me too though... like why was she beaten? unless the ranking of the harbingers isn't just power, or maybe childe is only 11th without his foul legacy but with it he's stronger than signora?
Traveler is good at fighting but they’re lacking strength of theirs own. In the world that knowledge and experience is directly linked to strength(Doesn’t sure if this applies to traveller as they’re not native to this world). Traveler who is just a baby(in Teyvat) with 5 elements doesn’t stand any chance against anyone at all. As we can see, the fight against baby god Scara which is made by combining Khaenri primordial human art(Inazuma model) and Dottore’s god imitation using gnosis as a medium to channel energy into Scara, A being who can ascend into god hood. They is no chance we’re going to win against these kind of battle without using THE POWER FROM BEYOND or using massive source of pure leyline energy as a battery. But I still have my hope for traveler cause they seem to be very adept at using external sources of elemental(?) energy though, as in Liyue(Adeptal), Inazuma(Ambitious), Sumeru(Dream),and Fontaine(Authority over water). And it looks like the reason traveler can’t use they power from beyond the stars might be because they lose authority over theirs power as in the sustainer is sustaining. THEORY: As for the Knave I think she has the Fichl all seeing eye 😅 so the fight is just end before it has even start.
Why do I have a feeling now that we are going to defeat the final boss with the power of friendship with all these characters?
The traveler probably needs the power of 7 gnosis + all visions power from all over teyvat combined + light element + their original sword
It's funny how Arlecchino's fight with the Traveler was the trigger to finally open the eyes of Genshin players. We were aware of these issues even before Arlecchino, but it went under the radar because the traveler "won" those fights. However, now that the traveler lost while shaking like a coward this was the straw that broke the camel's back.
About Signora, She was quite literally dying, we honestly don't know how much of her original power was even left. Even her second stage intro basically says she's severely weakened. So in all honesty she was most likely over half dead from her own powers eating her alive, maybe in Natland we will get a chance to rekindle the crimson witch of flames.

Honestly, considering that Arlecchino descends from a khaenrian bloodline due to the crimson moon reference, it is very possible that her trait interfered with traveler’s resonance with the elements, due to reactions between dark and light. Otherwise, there is no other possible explanation.
It's also funny because in cutscene when changing fight phases in scara boss fight traveler has enough physical strenght that concrete floor that's over 1 meter thick breaks before they get smashed.
Had commented on the origin video, but I still think progressively, Traveler had some struggle against Childe (11th Harbinger) but ended up winning by some luck & they were able to defeat Signora (8th Harbinger) was prob bcs they had gained more training with the Watatsumi army (assuming it happened in a long span of time). However, they r still not strong enough to defeat Scara (6th Harbinger+power up robot) & had to farm knowledge to gain wisdom & buffs. It's even more evident when fighting Arlecchino (4th Harbinger) & she wasn't even going all out. Childe's prowess growth during the whale scene is prob due to his own intense training in between the Inazuma & Sumeru Archon quest, meaning that Childe is much more discipline in his combat training compared to Traveler prob. But imo, current Traveler can beat the 10th & 9th Harbingers, however they might struggle against the 7th Harbinger. Since Project Stuzha (I think it's the project held by both 10th & 9th Harbingers?) is coming up, I think Traveler would have to confront TWO harbingers at the same time (which they might b equal to 7th/6th in combat) Traveler' kit in all elements r felt mostly like the Support Character (Hydro being THE worst one) & I can only hope that when Pyro MC comes out, we will finally get the DPS MC we deserve!

13:29 The ranks of the Harbingers do not always correlate to their power level (except for the top 3) but by how much trust and authority they have within the ranks of the Fatui
The reason Childe is ranked 11th is because he’s a loose cannon who the Fatui cannot fully trust or control. They’d rather have him on their side than running loose causing problems, but don’t want to give him too high a rank. They keep him around to use him as a weapon of war because of his immense combat prowess
You really mean to tell me you think the banker guy and Rooster could beat Childe in a fight? Tartaglia is probably strong enough to beat most of the other harbingers except for the top 3 and maybe Arlecchino
