Having played one of my worst games of golf in years, in desperation, I tried teeing the ball higher. The difference was instantaneous and consistent. I was suddenly hitting the ball longer and straighter with a launch angle that took my breath away. OK, I know it's only one round but I felt I was consistently hitting up on the ball which was what was giving me the distance and, I believe, greater accuracy. This video makes perfect sense to me. I'm now using an 83mm straight tee but the difference in height is equivalent to moving from pink castle tees to orange.
Recently had a lesson with my pro and struggling to hit a consistent drive. Changed my tee height and now has orange tee, has helped me a lot and hit more consistent drives now.,👍👍
This is a great, informative video! A very common question with many of of students. Many tee their driver too low, which makes it very difficult to launch the ball and optimize their ball flight. Thanks!
Brilliant insight... Used it "2 3/4"on the range and it's was booming with a slight fade for me. Took it to the course and produced 5 great driver shots outta 6 "miss hit". Thanks again, great content...
Great vid, Ali! I get my best driver results using a 3 1/4" tee, so it's definitely worth testing different tee heights. And I think it's worth noting that a taller tee can help to hit a draw.
its true, Im 27 HC I was using white tees for a long time today I switched to pink tee height and drived 270 yards, my longest Ill try orange maybe next year :) thanks for video
Alex thanks for talking about back spin. So frustrating to watch your ball dive because of the backspin. So since you shown how to reduce this . Thank you . I will start experimenting with higher tee
Very good point. Definitely fits my problem, I hit way too much down on the ball and I will be teeing it up high from now on. Hope the crown doesn't scuff too much in the transition.
I like your instructional vids and content. Thanks for this information, I use the pink 2 1/4 tees but will try orange 2 3/4 to try and reduce spin rate, whilst gaining or maintaining height.
I personally look for the space in the back, from where the ball curves downward/rounds off and the ground. I find that if I can get my blade in between that small gap I consistently compress the ball, maximizing my distance, while minimizing effort for a better ball flight.
Thank you so much for this wonderful vid. Is the ball position referenced to your front foot matters or the same stance ang position can be applied for all the different tee heights?
When I tee it when I'm high....Oh, wait. When I tee it high when the..... Oh, yeah . When I sip the highball. No. When The ball is high and I hit it, it goes farther.
Do you have any videos of shaft reviews? If not, could we get a few? There's a ton of information and analysis on driver heads but very little on the actual shafts that are going in them!
Could not see your set up from the side on position I've seen your other video as where you say to hit up on the ball but if you stop taking the club up to the ball before you strike it and keep the bottom of the downswing in the middle of your feet you automatically hit up on the ball and need a higher tee? I think your angle of attack on the second strike was because you didnt stick to that discipline which you tell us about in the 40 yds more from your driver vid.
@@AliTaylorGolf Thanks Ali. So where would you say I should set up the ball position in my stance as a starting point. I have a low swing speed. I am 6 foot tall
I struggle to hit up on my driver, I think this is due to the fact I have a negative path and I thought it was very hard to hit up on the ball if you don't have a positive path i.e. coming from the outside stops you hitting up on the ball ?
ok cool, I will tinker around with my ball position but the only worry I have is with moving the ball further forward I actually make the path even further left
Mark, you are thinking too much. When you were a kid and swatted a fly did you think about your swing with the fly swatter? When you pounded your first nail with a hammer did you analyze your swing? Of course not. Keep playing and have fun, after all it is only a game (the best game ever). I don't mean to belittle your comment at all. Have fun and good luck friend.
Have a friend video your swing from different vantage points and I guarantee those problems will go away as soon as you see yourself on video. I'll give you a dollar if it doesn't work!
What you need to talk about....is the distance of the ball above the club....and not the measuring height of the tee. When playing on the course, the tees are in the ground. Are we supposed to bring a measuring tape?? lol. Most people will not use the particular type of tee that you mention.
I always get comments .. oh You've teed your ball up too high on the 1st even before I've hit ... kinda get on my nerves .. hopefully people will watch this vid and learn .. especially after they've hit a squirt fade from a low tee themselves lol
Totally irrelevant, he takes three swings and as we all know every swing has the capability to be different. The only accurate way to measure the difference using different height tees would be with a machine.
Seven Seven I think it's psychological for me. I feel like I'm just going to go right under it if I tee it high. Consequently, I have a shallow attack angle so I just use a 12 degree driver to get the launch I need.
hollywood1513 that means the bottom of your swing isn't behind the ball enough so your not swinging up on the ball. Try moving the ball further forward in your stance
I'm going to stop watching instructional videos. I find myself constantly inconsistant in my thinking on the course due to information overload thanks to videos like this. For christ sake just jam a peg in the ground and launch one!!!
Clearly there are different schools of thought on this, because every time I've tried to hit up with my driver, the ball shoots way up without any distance. My form must be off and the reason I keep being told to hit down.
Dan, it sounds like your driver is generating too much backspin, which would explain why an upward strike produces an up-shooter that doesn't go far. If your driver is adjustable, you might try less loft and/or a more forward center of gravity to reduce the backspin.
Hurry home and and do whatever you want it will come up to me and and you will be able to get away from you guys to get some rest and then I’ll come see ya then I can come see ya soon I guess I’m just got back in the truck I’ll come see ya ya I’ll come get up
Why do British people think they speak proper english, then proceed to say the word "but" two different ways in the same sentence? They have booot, and baat. None of them sount like but.....
Too much American influence on our own speech habits. I hate the word 'guys' it sounds like some cheesy 50s musical about high school kids. Viewers, subscribers, people, ladies and gents, fellow golfers, are all better sounding.
Eh your not even looking at the ball when you hit it haah your supposed to look at the ball whilst hitting it and and keep looking at the same spot for a second after u have hit it
you don't hit the ball..the ball get hit in your normal swing..if you're trying to hit the ball..you're stuffed..if you struggled with your driver..means always hook..try tee it low..
I bet he could give you a shot a hole and still smack your smart arse. His swing is fine. You just don't understand the golf swing. His head moves early, like many of the modern players, with the new technology.
How can you say his swing sucks? Every player has a different swing. Have you ever seen Jim Furyks swing he has one of the ugliest golf swings. So you can’t talk shit on someone’s swing to justify for their golf game

Nic Brokenshire that’s awesome! Driver needs a positive angle of attack where the driver needs a positive. Keep it up!

I needed this! Great presentation. Thanks!
I use a long tee and crank them out there 300+, but I carry short tee's for lower flight characteristics on certain holes.
Mike Devyne pro tip: you can also push your longer tees further into the ground
Alex thanks for talking about back spin. So frustrating to watch your ball dive because of the backspin. So since you shown how to reduce this . Thank you . I will start experimenting with higher tee
Thanks. Would like to see how T height And the degree of loft on the driver (for us duffers) effects distance assuming we hit up on the ball.
I have found that the distance I can hit the ball out of the Tee Box directly correlates with the amount of alcohol I consume.
Do you mean " indirectly "
@@adrianred236 undirectly?

Pink in the main for me, orange for wind behind par 5 I hit both fade no 1 choice on a pink, and draw no 2 mainly with Orange.

Wayne Harris exactly!
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT when you strike your ball?,.The back of the ball?,.the middle?,.or the front?,.THANKS?,.Will REALLY help me immeasurably!

Would love to see your feedback on the fittings you have done with Titleist 718 AP1, AP2 and AP3.
Decent and very informative. Thank you

Interesting that the second and third shots show a de-lofted club face from forward shaft lean.
Thank you so much for this wonderful vid.

which tee would be the best for 9 degree driver?
Does your ball position in the stance stay the same?
+Harry Fry Try to keep it the same because changing ball position will change the direction the club travels at impact.
Would that apply to my 13 degree Big Bertha with a light shaft? or should I use maybe a shorter tee?
Depends on your club delivery and strike.
@@AliTaylorGolf Thanks Ali. So where would you say I should set up the ball position in my stance as a starting point. I have a low swing speed. I am 6 foot tall
I always tee it high because I'm tall (6'7") and seem to maybe float up when I swing... I cant really hit a good shot with a low tee
Thanks fpr thid TIPS
How about if you hover the club?
Won't necessarily change it but always worth a try.
I struggle to hit up on my driver, I think this is due to the fact I have a negative path and I thought it was very hard to hit up on the ball if you don't have a positive path i.e. coming from the outside stops you hitting up on the ball ?
You can hit up and still have your swing path to the left. Very often due to the fact that the ball position is further forward in your swing arc.
ok cool, I will tinker around with my ball position but the only worry I have is with moving the ball further forward I actually make the path even further left

A 2" tee is only 1.25" above the floor, which is more relevant no?
Totally agree, height above ground is what matters.
Tee it high and let it fly

Most golfers tee the ball too low and it costs them distance and accuracy.
So many golfers tee it too low.
what i need to do with a 12° driver
Eliot Vanderschrieck sell it
Depends on your club head speed. How fast do you swing?
Totally irrelevant, he takes three swings and as we all know every swing has the capability to be different. The only accurate way to measure the difference using different height tees would be with a machine.
Right, needs to at least hi maybe 5 balls at each height for a minimal statistical analysis
The different tee height allows you to produce optimal angle of attack and strike, therefore maximum distance.
Thought this was a priest giving golf instructions. LOL

Anything wrong with just teeing it lower and using more loft? I find that I get bottom strikes the higher I tee it up.
hollywood1513 yeh, me too. In fact I top it if I tee it high!!

+hollywood1513 Usually more loft creates more backspin.
AliTaylorGolf but that may not be a bad thing if attack angle is shallow and dynamic loft isn't being increased right?
hollywood1513 that means the bottom of your swing isn't behind the ball enough so your not swinging up on the ball. Try moving the ball further forward in your stance

Some people tell me to hit down on the ball, with my drives, like with irons. Yet, I keep seeing videos that say to hit up on the ball. I'm confused.
You have to hit up with your driver. Down creates backspin & loss of distance. Hit down with irons & a little down with fairway metals.
I hear what you are saying but many keep telling me to hit down with my driver. I wonder if it's because of my swing?
no, your swing has nothing to do with it, always hit up or slightly level, but never down
Clearly there are different schools of thought on this, because every time I've tried to hit up with my driver, the ball shoots way up without any distance. My form must be off and the reason I keep being told to hit down.
