Good lesson! I think it's important to get the right shaft in your driver so it loads up without being too stiff or too soft. The release of that energy in the shaft being bent and released at the moment of impact really helps.
One day I'll watch youtube golf content without hearing about how excited people are. Today is not that day. BUT, I do love Swing Quest content, Pete's a great coach, thanks!
Never realised raising the left foot was a thing! Definitely be struggling with sequencing as I keep coming over the top - will be taking this to the range today! Thanks a lot
Here is the thing, what you explain is all good for someone who is on a pro tour! Not sure if they turn to UA-cam get better though! I'd love to see a mid to high handicaper hit a golf ball with all those moving parts :) :D :)
Exactly! High handicappers will never achieve the timing required to properly swing a club, mostly because they don't have hours every day to practice. Even if they have the time, they'll never have the perfect timing needed. Golf is probably the hardest game to play & even harder to learn so don't freak out because you don't play as well as you think you should, & beyond that, learning a really good swing doesn't necessarily mean you'll score well. Swinging well on the range doesn't teach playing under real course conditions along with the added necessity of being good at chipping, pitching & putting which count for 75% of your score.
This is one of the things i've been working on for the past couple of weeks. It's transformed my swing. I always got too quick from the top and struggled with weight transfer. By really slowing the backswing down and then a gradual acceleration into the ball it allows me to sync everything up much easier. Gives you time to get your body in the position it needs to be at impact.
I'm not used to this level of advice without it being delivered in torrential rain on the Irish coast with a bearded ginger man yelling Marouch at me 😅 Love this throwing analogy, it makes sense without even knowing how to break down all the individual components of a throw.
Quality video for sure as most of us have this issue. First time seeing Swing quest so subscribed . I’m working on exactly the same things recently over the winter months so I’ll add in your advice here with the heel and skipping stones .
I had to end up closing off a little bit at address to get more of a turn. I have to aim a little more right of target but I am as consistent as I have ever been.... Thanks for breaking down the swing!
Pete, smoothest swing on you tube!!!! I've only started playing last 12 months and just had my 1st lesson and I struggle with the transition BUT the coach also so about how important the finish was as well!! Thanks Pete
Great video and perfect timing Pete! Not only have I been thinking about slowing my swing down to promote proper body positioning and better contact, but I also have a playing lesson later today.
I suffer from the occasional big block, mainly with the Driver from extending too early. From a quick skimming stone drill in the garden, I think this might be a big help with all my clubs now.
great videos as always. Just a comment thou on the "skimming drill #2" as i've heard many professionals talk about it: If you're a rght-hand hitter while being in life a left-hand thrower, it's really hard to "feel" that drill. Is there anything else that could be helpful for our breed of golfers ?
Pete I’ve always been confused about whether this sequence and the backswing are the same for full swing iron, driver and wedges? Or are there variations to it for shorter clubs?
Ok Peter…. Shoulder, Trail Hip, then Lead foot… got it but more importantly, where and what the shoes are you wearing and can I get them in Canada? Those are clean looking and I want a pair! lol
I watched so many videos telling me to get more hip turn and turn with the lower body first. I ended up being in a place where i got so much hip turn and went so early that my hands were coming behind my back. I couldn't get any power or consistency. I found out that i need to be in a window of sequence, not early or late.
I don't turn my hips when I turn my shoulders - perhaps that's why I cannot get it back far enough to hit it past 220Y. I am definitely trying this on the range later.
I'm a senior (65) golfer with a GA handicap of 16. Have several old issues such as knees and back, therefore a shorter swing is what I'm after without sacrificing distance, Help!
Well, the problem is that we assume that we have to move towards the ball/target etc. in the start of the downswing. But, we should do the exact opposite. We make the same mistake in the takeaway; and, assume that we should just simply swing back. But, the waggle would suggest otherwise. We press the left hand forwards to waggle the club back; and we press the index finger side of the left hand towards the right hand to return the club to the ball. And, really the waggle is the unconscious mind telling us how it wants us to control the club in the swing.
I wish I knew how the pros hit it like that. They swing it so smooth, it doesn't look like they're swinging too fast but still hit these powerful penetrating ball flights in the air.
That amount of rotation is easily achieved when you're using only your trail hand but adding the lower hand obviously doesn't let you turn that much. Also, you're demonstrating keeping the handle ahead when with driver, the exact opposite should be done to allow the proper upswing. I'm not doubting what you're saying but only what you're doing in your demonstration.
Changing speed snd continually building until time of impact is called acceleration. The club head is continually accelerating toward the ball at the time of impact.
Shoulder turn is bullshit. The more you turn you make the more you will be looking for you ball as it will not be in the fairway. I have a maybe a 45 degree shoulder turn and I pop the ball out their in the middle of the fairway. Yup I don't hit it 300 yards maybe 250, yet always in the middle of the fairway. From there it is a smooth iron onto the green or around the green. Most of these guys only made golfers worse. I stopped watching and reading golf shit years ago and yup my handicap dropped to single digit. They talk about what works for them. You have to figure out what works for you.
@@latenite3931 We all heard, but nobody who actually hits it long swings slow to hit shots further. It's not going to magically appear in the last third, and it doesn't matter if you have that post impact when the ball is gone and it's not so important. Get speed to start things off so you can have more speed on the way down. There, saved you the agony of having to watch a 10 minute video full of bollocks
Your arms have to slow down to allow the club to gain maximum speed just as your rotation has to stop to let the arms pass that increases speed. It's just like cracking a whip. Your hand has to stop to create speed, even by moving backwards to create the snap. Everything can't move at the same speed or it's impossible to create any speed which is also the reason for the wrist hinge which is eventually released providing speed to the hands which transfers speed to the clubhead. It's all a matter of perfect sequence which is why it's so hard for high handicappers to achieve. Something has to stop to allow something else move faster. That's a simple application of physics.
A series for a beginner building a quality golf swing would be awesome! Just food for thought!
One of the best explanations of how the golf swing works mechanically.
Good lesson! I think it's important to get the right shaft in your driver so it loads up without being too stiff or too soft. The release of that energy in the shaft being bent and released at the moment of impact really helps.

Love that skimming stone feel drill, thanks Peter.
no worries and thank you for watching

Such a good video Pete, helped me a lot. Thanks 🙏
Peter, you seem like a genuinely good dude. The type of guy that I would hang out with. Great instruction! Subscribed!

a few really good drills especially the throwing pebble one good drill

If I could give this more than one thumbs up I would!

Yep, it’s the skimming stone for me - wish someone had told me this a few years ago, when I first took up a golf club! 🙄😁
Great video Pete 👏 few things to work on this week
Pete, smoothest swing on you tube!!!! I've only started playing last 12 months and just had my 1st lesson and I struggle with the transition BUT the coach also so about how important the finish was as well!! Thanks Pete
I got to finish that 1v1 between you and James. Looked like an amazing course
Great lesson!
Good stuff you helped me with this and I slowed down my back swing and transition and I have more speed and control at the bottom
Some good points here especially the reference to throwing 👍
Brilliant Peter, im for the driving range straight away
Great video and perfect timing Pete! Not only have I been thinking about slowing my swing down to promote proper body positioning and better contact, but I also have a playing lesson later today.
Great lesson
I suffer from the occasional big block, mainly with the Driver from extending too early. From a quick skimming stone drill in the garden, I think this might be a big help with all my clubs now.
Happy Gilmore swing it is. Most motion possible 😊
Great video, Pete! Does the skipping the stone “feel” work for irons as well or does that lead to hitting up on irons and losing compression?
Yeah same feeling, just feel like it’s making a bigger splash
Do you also recommend lifting the left heel for irons, or is this strictly for the driver?
Peter Finch is a gift to us all and must be cherished and protected!!! ⛳
This is an excellent video!!
You're not using the Jumbo Max Grips anymore? Great Video! Thanks,

Has to be a lefty frisbee wrist snap, I’m a lefty playing righty and that works for me
Thanks for the video Pete! Would the skimming feeling be similar with irons? Or driver only
Best. Video. Ever!!!
I’ve had my driver for about 2 years now and I’ve hit it perfectly about 10 times, so I call my driver swing the highland fling heel toe heel toe 😁.
8:17 Petey speaking directly to me
Pete I’ve always been confused about whether this sequence and the backswing are the same for full swing iron, driver and wedges? Or are there variations to it for shorter clubs?
How does the lead arm work to help get you into the finish position?
I was taught take it back low and slow like a rock on a string.
Omg where can I get that same TP5X caddie bag?
Ok Peter…. Shoulder, Trail Hip, then Lead foot… got it but more importantly, where and what the shoes are you wearing and can I get them in Canada? Those are clean looking and I want a pair! lol

Exactly what ive started to do with my game, My irons have iproved so much and now im just working on my driver.
SKIP THE STONE MAROOCH
I 'liked' the video only because you didn't edit out that hook shot :)
Any recommendations for exercises/stretches that will aid in improving the range of motion to allow the rotation. I know I struggle with tight hips.
I'll add this to the list, I'm far from an expert in this area
Would love a video on this 👌🏻
Flairing the feet will help as a start. Little penguin waddle going on
Pete. What ddriver are you using now? Is that the G430 Max or LST?
I don't turn my hips when I turn my shoulders - perhaps that's why I cannot get it back far enough to hit it past 220Y. I am definitely trying this on the range later.
Exactly opposite of what padraig Harrington and Pete Cowen said for higher handicappers
Urinating sometimes incrementally leads to a bowel movement.
What simulator software is that?
I'm a senior (65) golfer with a GA handicap of 16. Have several old issues such as knees and back, therefore a shorter swing is what I'm after without sacrificing distance, Help!
Man I wish you could coach me 1 on 1 I may actually be able to play then! Also wish I lived anywhere but northwest England that would help!
I’ve been struggling with topping The ball and shanking it and it’s started recently and idk how to stop it

Wish I had the nerves to try this in my round today, I’ll wait for range 😂
I wish I knew how the pros hit it like that. They swing it so smooth, it doesn't look like they're swinging too fast but still hit these powerful penetrating ball flights in the air.
Get a real good teacher, it really helped me.
I tend to hit more from the heel, could that be me standing to close?
I really struggle with strikes at the top of the face 😢
I definitely play better when I hold my finish. My iron strikes are really better and ball flight to boot

C’mon MAROOCHI
Changing speed snd continually building until time of impact is called acceleration. The club head is continually accelerating toward the ball at the time of impact.
For the end position, I always say to my friends golfers, think of a friend taking a picture of you at the end of the swing and pose for it....
Jon Rahms swing looks like a hack and thrash but it works for him. I want a Fred couples swing
How about a 73 year old with 73 year old spine other body parts important to full swing
That’s great for young players but senior players can’t rotate like that . Than what?
Skipping! You skip a rock across the water
Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up.
So basically everything they taught about the golf swing 30-40 years ago is completely wrong. :(
Shoulder turn is bullshit. The more you turn you make the more you will be looking for you ball as it will not be in the fairway. Too much talking
Awful lesson + clickbait. You hit it further by having a faster swing, not by slowing down.
