Do you see the world through the eyes of SURVIVAL or LOVE?

  • In this video, I explore the central driving principle of human motivation: survival.
99% of what we do in life has the goal of maintaining (or 'surviving') our sense of psychological self (our sense of ‘I’). As we do this, we continuously add new self-images, identities, beliefs and behaviours to this ‘I’, which starts to resemble this giant ball of yarn. These new additions are created to help us survive as ‘I’ but then become part of it (and must in turn be survived and defended).
How we perceive others and the world is then a reflection of our survival programming (the contents of our ball of yarn). And we build balls of yarn around our sense of other people and the world to help us navigate them (we need to know what they are before we can react appropriately).
The key point is that your entire experience of reality (your self, others and the world) IS survival in action. All meaning derives from your survival programming and is a reflection of it.
Survival is great. It's totally necessary. But striving to maintain this ball of yarn IS SUFFERING. Because it demands that reality be different from how it is to meet the demands of our survival programming. This resistance to reality and striving to continuously manipulate it is incredibly painful.
So where does the love come in? Well, let’s ask ourselves: what isn’t survival? That which perceives reality! Known as Being, Consciousness, Awareness, Presence etc.
In this place, there is no survival activity. It doesn’t need anything to be different from how it is (because it has no survival conditions). So it doesn’t resist reality. It accepts it as it is. And this is love!
As we become more conscious of survival in our experience, we can deconstruct and reintegrate this ball of yarn and all its defences. And we come to rest more and more in a space where we, instead, see the world through the eyes of LOVE
There are two tools to do this. Somatic inquiry to help us deconstruct and integrate the ball of yarn. And nondual inquiry to help us see that our true self is this Pure Being.
    In this video, we explore
    - What is survival?
    - Why does it matter?
    - How can we transcend survival?
    - What does it mean to see with the eyes of love?

So as you meet the feelings the parts, personalities, survival mechanisms automatically drop? So basically life just wants us to meet it deeply, to meet everything that has arisen within us right? Thats scary to me! Its like people have taught me that my real self isnt welcome but then life is asking me to be authentic and of course that would be the most comfortable thing but Im afraid of losing people, getting looked at with an ugly face. Well its not like you feel accompanied anyway with these people, and we have to build capacity to be with these feelings, right?

Hey, there are many nuances to the process but, yes, we meet these survival mechanisms and identities within us and they tend to dissolve (slowly or quickly). And 100%, this is scary! Because it feels like we're giving up what we have used to survive (and maintain our friends and so on, as you mention). We're letting go and trusting that we'll be OK. We can do it bit by bit and see each time that we're still OK (and freer than before), which encourages us to carry on shedding this false identity. And as we change, our life may change; our relationships and jobs might change. We might lose people. But you might also meet new people :).
