If you want to continue with this album..."Hand of Doom" should be next. It is a "warning" song about the use of heroin. Specifically about the Vietnam soldiers they witness returning form the war hooked on morphine and then falling into heroin addiction. Side note...the song following Hand of Doom goes right into an instrumental called "Rat Salad"...they often played the 2 together on tour. It features a lot of Bill Ward drumming.
@@CoachCastTV Also...for something that will really amaze you...try listening to this live performance of a song called "Changes" ..a song about something that was happening in Bill Ward's personal life...ironically, Bill does not perform on the song as there are no drums. ua-cam.com/video/e0zwFqhS_Hk/v-deo.html
Toni Iommi wrote most of the music on Sabbath; that's why plp call him the father of heavy metal; of course Butler (bass) and Ward (drums) are a great rythm section; (butler wrote the lyrics) Ozzy's contribution were most on vocal harmonies. Again most of the riffs you hear from other plp Iommi did it first. Try "spiral architect" "supernaut" or "wheels of confussion" great songs. Nice work again guys.
The name Black Sabbath came from a film of the same name, they were keen on horror films hence the song Black Sabbath they wanted it to sound like a horror film.
My aunt had the first album on 8 Trac, I started listening at 8 years old . I also had Led Zeppelin since that age. Never got tired of hearing them all from that time.
Awesome review. 63 myself and a life long Sabbath fan. Been to a few concerts. One back in the 90s with Pantera as their lead off band. So good. You're on a great adventure with Sabbath. Keep going.
I just love watching Black Sabbath fans being born, lol.. They're one of my favorite bands of all time, period.. As a somewhat competent drummer myself, Bill Ward is my number 2 fave drummer behind only Neil Peart (R.I.P) of Rush.. Fairies Wear Boots is one of my fave tunes to play along to on my kit.. You should give Hand of Doom a whirl, along with Into the Void, Under the Sun, Spiral Architect among many others I can suggest to you guys if you'd like, lol
Bill ward in rock hall of fame is #1 heavy metal ranked all time like toni iomi lead guitarist geezer butler bass and ozzy Osborne lead singer oh ya their first band was earth until 1970 check it out
Love "Fairies Wear Boots" and all their older stuff with Ozzy the best. Been listening to Sabbath since the early 70s. 62 now and still loving it. Killer stuff, man!
All right!! One of my favorite Sabbath tunes this is. I love that groove. It's such a good jam. Coach is right- Bill Ward kills it every time. I've loved this song ever since I first heard it in high school in the 70s. Yeah I've read that it was a gang of skinheads wearing combat boots that attacked Ozzy and Geezer one night, so they wrote a song about fairies wearing boots as payback! Next song I recommend from this album is Planet Caravan. It's so mellow that you won't even believe it. I think Mrs. Coach would love it. Love your channel guys!
Paranoid is one of my Desert Island albums. (I mean if I has electricity and a killer sound system on that island.) The album is perfect. Fun reaction. Try Symptom Of The Universe from their Sabotage album.
Sabbath has a concept progression for each album and each of the albums as a whole advances the story of the band. The first 3 albums have song topics that are more general or cautionary in meaning. Volume 4 is where they really begin to write about themselves. The songs are the script of their lives. Once Dio takes the microphone, the entire sound changes. Not saying it's bad...It's just not this.
Of course the song Im going to suggest/demand/beseech/beg for is "The Warning" off the 1st album. Which I thought you were doing the other week but it was a band called The Warning 😂 Which wasn't at all bad & 1st time I'd heard them 👍
This one has been a favorite since I was a wee head-banger. Like someone else mentioned, it’s the building-up that is so fun with these bangers. I suppose impatient listeners would not like it but with patience comes a great deal of reward! Great reactions Mr. and Mrs. Coach. Ozzy’s singing voice is silky 💥👍
Oh hell yeah. Might have been 30 years since I've heard the studio version of this classic! Nice pick for sure. The sound is so clean here compared to the wild versions recorded live. That drum centered intro is slick. I really like the ... is it syncopation? I'm not sure, but how to a poorly trained ear, the beats seem to come almost at random! Whatever, it's wonderful! Thanks CoachCastTV!
Any of these early songs like Fairies Wear Boots and Hand of Doom, you can usually find good live versions from the 1970 live in Paris concert, if you're interested in checking those out. But I agree, with the comments suggesting Hand of Doom. It's a warning song against the dangers of heroin use and also illuminating the drug problems that a lot of soldiers had returning from the Vietnam war.
Love the long instrumental intro. I could have happily listened to that for even longer. I agree with Coach about the quality of the drummer... Simple lyrics, but really fun! I'd like to suggest Queen's 'Princes of the Universe' for Coach - the official video - I think he'd love it. Also, for Mrs Coach, their 'The Miracle' The Official video remastered (as opposed to the lyric video) Never performed live.
This is my first of your reactions - but i subscribed as soon as I realized you knew who Bill Ward is - very impressive for reactors. Most reactors never bother to learn the names of the musicians they're listening to - at least beyond the lead singer - so kudos to you both. I'll binge watch your past reactions and then i'll be up to speed. Thanks for posting this one.
Blues based bands breaking into original heavy rock was a product of the late 60's/early 70's. Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, ZZ Top are all great examples of the same roots growing in different directions. I was in school band as a drummer and school jazz band as a bassist so I paid a LOT of attention to these bands during these releases. Personally felt some American bands like Ted Nugent filled the gap later until the west coast busted out. RUSH is like other bands in a league of their own.
If you love guitar riffs n bass n drums this is the band for you. N yes this was released in 76 n the 2 previous albums they were changing their sound a little but not to much
You guys have now reacted to some of sabbaths greatest songs. They have a lot of top shelf songs compared to many other bands that may only have a couple of hit songs. There are still a number of sabbath's awesome songs to come however. I believe their best song is "symptom of the universe" but some other other top shelf songs include "into the void" & "sabbra cadabra".
I totally agree with you about Bill Ward being outstanding and Black Sabbath has always been my favorite band but if you go by just pure talent you have to give Neil Peart and the rest of Rush their due. Neil Peart is known as "You're favorite drummers drummer and has been rated the greatest drummer of all time. Rush is actually my second favorite followed by Led Zeppelin, all of which have three of the best drummers by voted on polls. I highly recommend Neil Pearts drum solo live in Frankfurt. Be prepared to be stunned!
This song is also done on the "live in Paris 1970 " concert from which you watched "War Pigs" 👍🎸 Geezer Butler really is the unsung glue that holds it all together on the Bass ❤
I started listening to Sabbath in the 70s and there was a trend for rock bands to use controversial labels or albums covers to scare parents and church leaders and excite kids. It was a big marketing tool at the time and it sold a lot of records. The Beatles were one of the first groups to use this method using backwards lyrics and music and creating mysteries around certain songs with hidden messages. Basically the more the establishment at the time freaked out the higher the profits for bands and record companies.
In polls there are bands consistently at the top. Beatles are always #1, but 2-3 can vary between Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. The 1st actual Heavy Rock song I heard (my dad was a big Elvis fan and that’s all we would listen to) was ‘Iron Man’ by Black Sabbath. Changed my musical direction. The Beatles hands down are the most influential band. Zep influenced all R&R and Black Sabbath are the acknowledged fathers of Heavy Metal. I saw the original band in 1978 and it was an experience. Bills drumming, Geezers bass line, Tony’s wailing guitar and Ozzie ominous vocals were amazing. There was nothing like the original but Ronnie James Dio came close. Other suggestions - Sweetleaf……..Snowblind……Paranoid……..Sabbath Bloody Sabbath……..War Pigs…….and of course Iron Man. Ozzie did reunite with Black Sabbath and they produced the Album -13 which has the original Black Sabbath flavor. Enjoy the ‘trip’.

Glad you finally got around to this one, my favorite from them. I suggested this one back in the beginning when y'all were just taking off. I think I know something that would appeal to your taste, not sure about the Mrs, but please consider trying some Alice in Chains. "Man In The Box" live from the Moore theater or anything from the Moore theater would be a nice start.
If you are going to do the song Heaven and Hell make it the live concert version from the Wacken open air show, 17 minutes of absolute bliss, it is THE best version of this song.
I know some will argue with me on this point. That's cool because everyone has their own opinions. I like some of ozzy's new tracks better. It's worth checking out. You might want to check out bible black when all of old sabbath members came back as a group.
Hi there! Yes we have one recorded now that just needs editing and scheduling. Probably end of weekend or early next week. "Apparently" was the one we have next.
No its a song about actual fairies that are legendary fairys not gay im 58 seen sabbath live in 1978 when i was 12 with my dad been a fan for many years know all songs by heart
This is what I found about the song. The skinhead story dont make any sense. "The song came about when an incident occurred where Geezer and Ozzy were smoking cannabis and saw fairies in boots running around a park, but the most known story around the song was that the band got attacked by skinheads (the skinheads being the fairies in the song), but it's been proven to not be true."
I would like to be the 1st to say I am not ruling out what you have read either. I always thought it was about an experience they had with drugs and did a little poking around. Quite a few places have the skinhead theory. Its just my personal believe that the drugs story seems to fit the song much better. Keep up the great reactions!@@CoachCastTV
I have never heard the story about the skinheads before, having been 18 years old at the time of this album I had always believed that this track resulted from smoking to much dope & hallucinating on acid ! could have been wrong ?
Wait... You're in your 50's and never heard Black Sabbath before?😮 Wow! Then this is definitely a treat for your ears. They were so simple but yet so unique in their sound, lyrics, and imagery. Haven't heard BS with Ronnie James Dio yet? Oh man ... Are you in for a surprise. His vocals are on another level. Ozzy was great, but no one, and I mean NO ONE can come close to Ronnie James Dio when it comes to vocals. Can't wait to check it out with you guys.
Yeah I’m not buying into the skinhead thing. Looked out a window saw a fairy dancing with a dwarf. Doctor says smokin and trippin’ is all that you do. The song is about an hallucination on drugs. And you’ve GOTTA check out Ozzy’s solo stuff! The first two albums with Randy Rhodes on guitar are a must! 💯
@@CoachCastTV Allow me to make a couple suggestions. Mr. Crowley, Over The Mountain, Flying High Again or Diary Of A Madman. All are great songs showcasing Ozzy and Randy’s virtuoso guitar work! Enjoy!
Mid 50’s my self I feel fortune to have started listening to them in the late 70’s . The first six albums are insanely good. Love them all. My favorite metal singer is Ronnie James Dio. The albums with him are also great. The Ian Gillian album is really good. Tony Martin had some great tracks as well.
Definitely have a listen to Heaven and Hell, and can I suggest something from their 6th Album, called Sabotage (still with Ozzy). The track "Symptom of the Universe". It is a lot heavier (for the most part), but if you're in love with Bill Ward's drumming now, he'll definitely be your favourite drummer after listening to that track!
Bill, Tony, Geezer…….Masters.

Again, the lyric video for this song. Its hard hitting and a real warning
FYI - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath album is 50 years old today. Released 12/1/73 (5th album in 4 years!)
Geezer is the secret sauce of the band... He did most of the writing and lyrics..

I always figured it was written about a little too much partying after a concert. 😊
"A National Acrobat" is one of their hidden gems.
this song is based on a real experience with some skin heads the band got into a confrontation with. Ozzie described them as fairies with boots.

99% of that is marketing
Agreed!
Definitely have heard some of Ozzy's solo stuff, not sure how much of the entire catalog.
@@CoachCastTV Allow me to make a couple suggestions. Mr. Crowley, Over The Mountain, Flying High Again or Diary Of A Madman. All are great songs showcasing Ozzy and Randy’s virtuoso guitar work! Enjoy!
@@HeavyBrocks Thank you. I know Mr. Crowley and Flying High Again for sure, I'll have to think about if I know the others. Appreciate you!
The Jazz element...
Thanks so much!
