Something funny since I started my channel: my friends never actually noticed my plants when they were visiting my house, but now when they see the same plants in my videos they always ask for plants. So I am doing a lot of propagation for them ☺️
Just ordered some sphagnum moss and it arrived yesterday. So this video is definitely for me 😃 yeyyy thank you 😘 I love propagating I’m water but I feel the humidity box is better especially for those winter rescues for my plants 🌱
Ha, ha! I have a Hoya that I have no clue what it is, even though it has about 5 new leaves but they are small. Maybe an Australis? Hmmmmm. Yes, it will be a little gift for me!
Lol it seems to me like everything is always 30 or close to that whenever I hear about Celsius. (I’m in no way saying that Americans not using the metric system is right, I’ve been trying to learn it for so long I even switched it on my phone to understand it better but, alas, I’m always like wHaT iS tHaT iN iNcHeS)
I don’t have room for so many small containers so I converted a storage box and added led grow light strips and used and old seedling tray with the small net pots. I LOVE IT. That’s what led me to IG for the Ikea greenhouse hack. Love all your vids. So well done and informative. Thank you.
Love this method! Got a couple of strings without roots of string of hearts not even 10 days ago and they're all growing new roots and baby leaves using this little greenhouse method! Thanks for the tips! :D
I’ve seen Harli G prop SOH from sphagnum, but she says she makes a new pot because untangling the roots from sphag is almost impossible so she just sets the moss on top of soil
I tried doing this, and removing the roots from the moss was pretty easy. However, potting all the tiny cuttings in soil was exhausting 😅 I also tried filling a 15cm pot with about 70% leca&pumice and soil+pumice on top and finally place the node cuttings on top of it. It worked just as good but saved a hell lot more time lol
Hello I've been watching you for awhile you can tell that you are definitely a true plant person your plants are beautiful I enjoy watching you and listening to your videos that's a beautiful mirror on your wall definitely brings out your pants I look forward to seeing many more thank you so much for sharing and I wish you the best with your plants
HI!!! I am a fairly new plant parent. I got my first "save" 2 yrs ago. It was a spider that someone had thrown out and the rest is history! I only have 40 plants at the moment. My first propagation happened by accident. It was Pothos that a friend had on her floor and I saved it a small vine had been broken off.
I’m rooting hoya cuttings in “Tupperware” with perlite but also in Ziplock baggies with perlite. I’ve not tried them in water, though that may be my next experiment! Love your videos.
Looks great! I love up cycling containers. I’ve actually been using this method for months now and it’s definitely the best. Just set it and forget it. We’ll kind of 🤗Happy gardening everyone 👩🏻🌾
Please show how you pot these babies up in the future. Haven't tried the moss technique but it looks easy. I've had great success with lipstick plants in water and I'm trying out water vs soil for my hoya. It has been about 3 weeks and so far so good.
Please do a video when you take your string of hearts out of the prop box and put in a pot!! I'm trying to propagate them now and would love to see how you do it when they are ready
Hi Christian! I have turned into a propagating loving plant owner. Bought one of those plastic covered with shelves greenhouses for spare room. I’m in process of “backing up” all my plants in greenhouse. Tried the sphag string of hearts butterfly method in GH but they died. Probably dried out, were watered etc. Too much. Now trying in closed glass container and much better as more constant moisture. Just in S. Facing window. You are an inspiration to me! Thanks for great video!
Great prop boxes. I do suggest labeling the box with what's in it and the date you took it. I use paper tape so you are not writing in the container itself. I always have proportions on the go, all year long. (Australia) As you say put under a light for longer time and you are golden, in spring you have new plants to pot. I love the butter fly method for the string/vine plants. I also make one vine to add in to the fuller cutting plant so when you pot it up you have an instant vining - bushy plant. Best of both worlds.
Really love that you use Tupperware and leftover salad containers etc for your prop boxes. I love cheap hacks/techniques like this, they don't have to be super pretty, just need to make more plants! Lol. Thanks for the thorough video
Love this way of propergating then water i also take and cut into notes but thanks for string of heart to cut it better i put long cutting takes longer thanks for info
Great video Christian, I keep my props in heat mats and under grow lights in my plant room. I love how you explain the process💚all of your props look great 😊
Thanks for tips! Wish I had done this to save my string of pearls, which shrivelled up and seemed to dry out though soil was moist. I will try it with my eschevaria leaves as I had not had luck propagating them yet. They grow babies when I do the water and plastic wrap method but are so small hard to figure out when they need water after I pot them in soil. And the eschevaria babies I had in soil have dried out.
Yessss! I made an extra prop box, mounted two (sad) plants on moss poles. I wanted some projects going so I could hopefully avoid serious seasonal affective depression. I’m kind of worried because I killed some plants last winter lol.
I've seen other plant people just put the moss with the plant propagations in it on top of the soil in the pot. The roots will grow into the soil eventually and they leave the moss in.
Thanks for the tips. I have 2 pothos in water and it's been 3 weeks and no new root. I just realized they are cold so I place it on my table in a warm area wish me luck.
Hmm I’ve never experienced it. I think it depends on your cuttings as well. Make sure you’re not putting any cuttings that isn’t healthy or has some type of fungus. Also make sure your moss isn’t soaking. You still need air pockets within the moss even if the kid is closed.
I am in a very damp seacoast climate and have the same problem. I always get mold or algae with propagations. I don’t think the prop box is good for damper climates in my opinion, but I am going to give it another go. I am going try to pre-treat them with neem & retreat weekly as well as adding vent holes to the box and adding a UV light as too low or too little hours of light will also help mold grow. We shall see. Otherwise it’s back to water props.
You could try propagating in a 80/20 mix of moss and perlite, I’m doing this for some of mine right now and they seem to be fairly happy. I also live in colorado, so we don’t have any humidity, but I’ve never had success with pure moss
My goodness you are definitely a plant guy and a artist can you tell me what type of plant that was again the purple one that you were cutting into pieces can you do a book or should I say would you have a book coming out one day I would definitely appreciate it
The purple plant is Cissus Discolor. I recently did a care and propagation video of it. Thanks for the kind words. Yes a book to come, but it is a bit different. I want to make it fun, but also learn at the same time 😁 it’s coming soon. Stay tuned 🌿💜
So excited that I saw this! I’m trying to propagate stems with nodes and no leaves from a monstera in soil, but it keeps getting mould! I’ll try the tupperware method!
Thank you for this great video! I had just bought some Sphagnum moss to try this method the other week. I’m going to try it on my string of hearts, and string of spades.
You can get it on Amazon of course, but also they carry this in home stores like Lowe’s and usually in your local plant nurseries. Here’s some at Home Depot www.homedepot.com/p/Miracle-Gro-Sphagnum-Peat-Moss-85278430/204502292
I seem to propagate more things in the winter because I can’t get outside to do things and the rest of my house plants have typically slowed down and don’t need as much attention as in the summer months.
Who likes to propagate houseplants? What’s your favorite plant to propagate and which method is your go to? 😊🌿
Something funny since I started my channel: my friends never actually noticed my plants when they were visiting my house, but now when they see the same plants in my videos they always ask for plants. So I am doing a lot of propagation for them ☺️
My new favorite prop method is with perlite and water. So easy. No risk of rot. No gnats. Except for SOH. Butterfly method for those.
I love propagating Hoyas in a perlite prop box. Wandering Jews in water are fun to watch roots grow too
Just ordered some sphagnum moss and it arrived yesterday. So this video is definitely for me 😃 yeyyy thank you 😘 I love propagating I’m water but I feel the humidity box is better especially for those winter rescues for my plants 🌱
I Do!!! I May Want To See Plants In More Than One Pot OR More Than One Room!!!
When you forget what you put in the boxes it's like a little gift you made for yourself🤩
Riiight. I was just saying Oooh it’s like doing a unboxing 😂
Ha, ha! I have a Hoya that I have no clue what it is, even though it has about 5 new leaves but they are small. Maybe an Australis? Hmmmmm. Yes, it will be a little gift for me!
@@lleo9703 yay
I love tossing wet sticks into a box- tons of them and all of them. watching the leaves grow while trying to guess what it is 🤣
Yay for using the celsius scale! I always have to look up the temperatures american people talk about 😄
lol...haha riiight. I also need to try and convert it for them tho. 😅
Our arrogant country is; I think the only country that doesnt use metric system. I love my Country, but sometimes ..??? I wonder WTF is our problem!
YES! I hate that! 😂
Lol it seems to me like everything is always 30 or close to that whenever I hear about Celsius.
(I’m in no way saying that Americans not using the metric system is right, I’ve been trying to learn it for so long I even switched it on my phone to understand it better but, alas, I’m always like wHaT iS tHaT iN iNcHeS)
i dont even know why we don’t use celsius
That mirror behind you is absolutely gorgeous! So unique!
Thanks! It’s definitely a hit, I thought. I one would like it. 😅
Sooo happy I found this channel- and someone who is giving relevant information for Canada! You’re amazing, and thank you for all you’re doing!
I don’t have room for so many small containers so I converted a storage box and added led grow light strips and used and old seedling tray with the small net pots. I LOVE IT. That’s what led me to IG for the Ikea greenhouse hack. Love all your vids. So well done and informative. Thank you.
I love that you upcycled the salad box. Your videos are always so informative.
🎶 CUT THESE GUYS INTO PIECES 🎶 THIS IS A GROWING NODE 🎶 PROPOGATION, NO SEEDLINGS, DONT GIVE A HECK IF ITS NOT GROWING SEASON 🎶
This needs to become a planty meme pronto!
@@hoedown175 do it lol
Ah-mazing! 😂
My dude, thank you. I was trying to figure out how to convey this myself, bc that’s exactly where my mind went after he said it 🥰
Plant music, awesome idea!
And I love your new "décors", the greenhouses and the miror with the plants I love it !
Love this method! Got a couple of strings without roots of string of hearts not even 10 days ago and they're all growing new roots and baby leaves using this little greenhouse method! Thanks for the tips! :D
Riiight. It’s amazing how easily they root and grow. Can legit make a whole bunch of strings.
Your room looks so good!! Loving those cabinets!
I would like to see you transfer the hearts from sphagnum to the mother plant, I'm curious how thats done. Thank you!!
I second this idea!
I’ve seen Harli G prop SOH from sphagnum, but she says she makes a new pot because untangling the roots from sphag is almost impossible so she just sets the moss on top of soil

I love propagating plants and have done such a variety in water and am now trying the moss method. Thanks for all your interesting videos!
Honestly one of my fave planty things to do is propagation. It’s so exciting when you see them grow and take off. 😁
Hi, what the name of the moss he used? ... Because when I google it takes me to peat moss
@@sallofatani i think it's sphagnum moss :)

Lol I _only_ have *40* plants atm
Making a propagation box is on my “can’t wait to do” list!
That mirror is epic
You are SOOOO AMAZING!!!!!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us!!
I put mine in my beta tanks: the waters warm and cleaned regularly and they’re under grow lights since I also keep aquatic plants!
Cool to know I’m not the only one who does this with “to-go” containers!
Pet recycling of its best! Little private greenhouses.
I’m rooting hoya cuttings in “Tupperware” with perlite but also in Ziplock baggies with perlite. I’ve not tried them in water, though that may be my next experiment! Love your videos.
Oh nice. I’ve never tried the perlite one but I hear it works well. Might be my next experiment.
Looks great! I love up cycling containers. I’ve actually been using this method for months now and it’s definitely the best. Just set it and forget it. We’ll kind of 🤗Happy gardening everyone 👩🏻🌾
Your house is looking AMAZING 🤩 You did a bang up job incorporating the plant cases as home decor! Love it 💕
Look at the bottom of the container for string of heart roots. No need to disrupt or potentially damage their fragile roots.
Love the cute cat at 7:00!!

Haha right. 😁 love it. Also like being surprised sometimes
Ohhhh Christian, I can't wait to start
propagating this way. I love that you go into detail. I'm a nubi Thank you
Thanks for sharing all of you propagations. You've been busy. Watching this video makes me want to go chop up some plants!😃🌿💚
Haha. Thanks Peggy. I’m also tempted to chop up a few more...lol. I might try and do some anthuriums since I see little baby ones on some of them .😁
omg loved watching this it's like Christmas opening all those boxes!
Exactly Christmas unboxing of plant presents 😁
Please do a video when you take your string of hearts out of the prop box and put in a pot!! I'm trying to propagate them now and would love to see how you do it when they are ready

I’m hooked. Your videos are fantastic! I’m your new biggest fan!
It took awhile but I’m finally starting to like moss propagation. And I agree, it’s great for winter time
Me too...this was the first year I’ve tried and I’m really liking it. 😁
😀 tupperware party😀 ur intro are on another level. I have not propagated yet, enjoying being a new plant parent🌱🌳 and watching them grow
I just bought a Cissus discolor plant, very expensive in Australia, So happy found your video here~so I can trying to have more of them now☺️
love it....great tips and you seem like such a nice guy! thx!
Great video Christian, I keep my props in heat mats and under grow lights in my plant room. I love how you explain the process💚all of your props look great 😊
Thanks Elizabeth. Good to know that you’ve had success with heat mats and grow light to propagate. 😁
💚
Beautiful plants. I have problems with propagating pretty much everything, except for the grapes.
Thanks for the great video, I’ll keep trying!
Gosh! I’m really fired up for the sphagnum moss method now!!!
I have Dubai propagating also , it’s great way to have more or save an hard to find or expensive plant which this one is for sure . Tfs
that's awesome. I agree, great way to save a plant and make more of these harder to find ones.
Awesome video. Thanks for such simple and easy propagation tips. Ready to try this method.
Nice props boxes.

I always have my prop box growing something! Less in winter but I need to do it for my sanity haha
Haha, riiight. That’s what I was thinking, I need to keep myself plant busy this winter. 😁
Yessss! I made an extra prop box, mounted two (sad) plants on moss poles. I wanted some projects going so I could hopefully avoid serious seasonal affective depression. I’m kind of worried because I killed some plants last winter lol.
Would love to see when you pot your the string of hearts. Seems like the spagnum and those little roots would be a challenge to transfer to soil.
I've seen other plant people just put the moss with the plant propagations in it on top of the soil in the pot. The roots will grow into the soil eventually and they leave the moss in.

Hello and happy new year. Can you try and propagate a variegated monstera and do a video about it?
Love this! I need to buy me some of that moss so I can start propagating
Great medium to also use for baby plants too or those that may need a bit more root development
What’s the green and purple vining plant at 5:00? Couldn’t hear the name you said
Cissus Discolor 😁
Crazy Plant Guy Thank you!
What a helpful video, thank you. I am planning to do some winter propagating and your video has been very encouraging. Keep up the fantastic work!
Amazing video, but question: how can you avoid mold? Sometimes when I propagate in a close box it works other time the cut rot and create mold.
Hmm I’ve never experienced it. I think it depends on your cuttings as well. Make sure you’re not putting any cuttings that isn’t healthy or has some type of fungus. Also make sure your moss isn’t soaking. You still need air pockets within the moss even if the kid is closed.

Great info thanks very much

Thanks. This was my first year trying moss and I’m loving it. 😁
I want a variegated string of hearts and Philodendron Brandi. So nice. And a Melanochrysum 😍
This just reminded me to go look at my propagation boxes. 😂 I'm a set it and forget it box propagator. 🤦🏿♀️🤦🏿♀️🤦🏿♀️🤦🏿♀️
Awesome video. Thank you

Thank you fro this video! Can vermiculite be used in place of moss...?
Intro was amazing!! 😆
Glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you. Seems to be a hit 😁
Hi nice video. Can we propogate succulents similarly
Thanks for sharing😊
These look amazing!!
Great propagation methods Chris I have a couple of water propagations is my kitchen 1 Clivia mini flower 1 Hoya Australis 1 Chinese evergreen💚🌿💚
Where do you buy the moss?
