Not the most high energy and missing my usual humour in this video (sorry just been tired lately) but i went really thorough and gave as much info as I can on how to make a prop box and grow your cuttings successfully. Enjoy
I always save my Starbucks cups and other plastic cups I get for sphagnum moss cuttings, it’s a great way to reuse before recycling 💗🌿 to-go boxes as well ☺️
After watching 10-15 videos about wet sticks, you finally gave me the answer of what I was looking for!! When to transfer them to soil!! Thanks so much. Always enjoy your detailed videos. Peace!
This is the best video I've seen ! ❤❤ I've watched so many others and being a first timer, left kinda confused. They say cut here then snip and don't show a close up of where they cut. Frustrating! Then I watched yours !! Thank you, thank you. Going to the store now ! ❤
This video is so helpful!!! The best prop box video I have seen so far! I have had issues with my sphagnum moss getting a little moldy in the past but this video made me feel ready and excited to try again 😁
I just got some of the plastic storage boxes and sphagnum moss to start my own propagations! I am planning to propagate some philodendron bloody mary, prince of orange, and mccollys finale, and monstera peru to start with. Thank you for this video, this definitely helped to know I'm headed in the right direction.
I’m gunna keep trying the prop box, it seems to work so well for others. Mine always seems to rot so I’ll try the heat mat and maybe less packed-in moss… :D
THANK YOU so much for this straightforward and extremely informative tutorial. I really couldn't figure out whether I was propping properly. Now I have more confidence in trying again. I have a feeling I will be much more successful now. Thanks again!
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you take us all through how you propagate your plants. I’m very impressed and I’ve subscribed and given you a thumbs up too
I started a prop box but I isr perlite. It works really well and fast. Pothos cuttings were the first test pilots, then the wet sticks. Next I tried dieffenbachia stem cuttings after I decapitated my very tall and twisted girl. Everyone of them sprouted roots and leaves. I love it but still love watching my water propagations. Thanks for all your videos. Happy proping🌱🌱🌱😀
Thank you for demystifying the grow box. I now feel confident to start my own. I recently got three cuttings of scindapsis, so I will now put one of them in a grow box. Great video.
I have the S.M. you have. The information has encouraged me to take care of some plants that look sad and I do have plastic fruit boxes to do it. Thank you for the information. So happy that you are living your real dream job. I am working on mine.
Great video:) I have a few questions...1.If we are using a heated mat should we have it on all day or turn off at night? Do you need to propagate your plants in order to keep them healthy? and finally when your store opens will you be selling things like nursery pots, soil/potting mixes etc? Thank you for all these wonderful videos, I've learned so much and continue to learn new things:)
Hi Christian and thank you for sharing!! I've tried this but I've been dying to use sphagnum moss more often for propagations!! Love all of your prop boxes, plants and I see that some of the moss has turned green, nice to see!!❤️🥰
Such a sucker for monsteras! I have the monsters Peru, adensonii, oblique, delicosa, Ginnie, and the dragon tail. Some people say they dragon is a monstera; others call it a philodendron. Regardless, I love them all. Can’t wait to get more cuttings of the different varieties!
This is the best and most thorough, information-packed video on setting up and maintaining a prop box! I was just wondering - another plant aficionado on UA-cam said she drills holes in her plastic prop box for airflow and that she also places a container of water inside the box just for extra security in k owing there’s enough moisture. Do these things sound like good steps in your opinion or do you disagree?
Great video. I just switched my cuttings to a 50/50 vermiculite & perlite mix. I find that the spaghnum dries up too fast. I would definitely use spaghnum for larger prop boxes though. You look exhausted and thinner then usual. Take some time to relax buddy. 😁 BTW the shop is coming along wonderfully 😁
So jealous of the success with your monstera standleyana. I love them but struggle massively getting them to root. I have a few wet sticks with nodes and leaf cuttings, again with nodes in a prop box by a warm window sill. I will persevere! Would be great if you could also dedicate a video to monstera standleyana - their care, propagation, etc. There’s so little out there for that beautiful (in my opinion) aroid. Thank you for all that you do in spreading the grow love 💚
Very informative! I’m going to go find me a box to prop my exotica since the stems are very short compared to the large leaves and therefore makes water prop difficult.
Hi there! I am trying to propagate string of hears var. but the hearts keep getting dark green… and they turn mushy They are in a clear plastic container with a lid on top of moss I’ll really appreciate the help!!!
I have been experimenting and documenting a second prop box journey with all different types of mediums and mixed mediums. I’m still getting mold and rot and no where near that amount of moisture in my boxes. And it’s definitely damp or wet enough. The Moss or perlite. Almost all my wet sticks definitely rot. Still experimenting and trying to just do a bunch of trial and error. Thanks for sharing!! Super helpful!
Hi, "my crazy plant life" is a good phase for your merchandise. Gonna try the sphagnum moss method and a plastic container, it looks so easy. Water propagating has not worked for me, I'm still a newbie.
This was VERY FASCINATING!!! I had no idea about this process or how it worked!!! Explains why there's someome down the street from me who puts cuttings at the curb from houseplants and from the garden, with a sign that says "FREE CUTTINGS" for people to help themselves to... I don't judge, but honestly didn't understand why people would take them (thought maybe it was for compost or something?? Lol) 😊❤👍
Hey quick question plant community! I have a beautiful LARGE prop box and have 20+ varieties of cuttings (mostly tropical or subtropical and love humidity) and most have been in there for 4-6 weeks and little to no issues. They reciee 10-12 hours of light from a full spectrum grow light (attached to the lid via velcro). However, the tips seem to get "soggy" and brown/black in the last few days? Unsure why I spray it when it gets dry-looking and I also treat the whole box with Neem oil once a week. I get some mold sometimes. Any help on what's happening? Is it leaf rot? Does it need to air out more than once a day for at least an hour? I love the box and it will be my primary source of propagating.
Thank you. You gave me more information that explains why my first and only attempt failed. Big time failed. 😂. Definitely going to attempt soon. Already have supplies. Question If I have a heating pad do I still need the bright indirect light as well? If so would a grow light be sufficient? Thank you. ❤️🌱
This video is great. Do keep your heat mat on all day? or turn it off at some point? Right now (Jan 2022) I'm propagating and using the heat mat. So new to the mat. It would be nice to see a video on how to use the heat mat. Thanks for sharing your videos!
Excellent show! You had plenty of energy! I wish I had half of your energy to say the least. I'm sure building out your shop is taking its toll..... Was the NZ spag. starting to green up and grow in one of those boxes??
Great Video and advice :) I've grown cuttings for Hydrangea, Hebe, Buddleia, Spirea & Lavender. Most of these plants are now on my channel header and I made a new Hebe video which shows these cuttings on their journey into big shrubs. Happy Growing :)
Love you and your video's. I have had a cutting of a Christmas cactus propagating in a box. I have propagated for more than 50 years. My problem with this one is it is growing beautifully from the top, easily 2 inches, but no and I mean NO roots. What do I do?
This was so informative thank you! I bought Sphagnum moss and I’m not sure if it is long string or not. I will have to look at the bag. I have a bunch of cuttings from a dying mini monsters that have rooted in water and a bunch of pothos. Is it ok to move the mini monsters leaves to sphagnum?
Thank you for your video , it’s so weird because I just found a leaf thrown away at work and it’s the plant shown in the bin in the beginning of your video. Can you tell me the name of it , I love it so much , it kind of looks fake . Is it a hassk? I have never propagated in my life , well maybe as a child . I hope this leaf takes off.
I’m truly impressed with your accomplishment; the shop is looking really good! I noticed a lot of people are using perlite to propagate plants. Do you have any experience propagating with perlite?
@@CrazyPlantGuy I’ve started mixing perlite and spag to help prevent the excess moisture I sometimes get with moss alone. Too soon for results yet though!
Hey I'm starting my journey with plantes but my place is dark as I live first floor. Can you give some tips about lighting? Like which bubble ligh can I use to help my plants? Something generic. The set ups are always too big or not looking very nice.
For the heat mat…do you leave it on 24 hours/day? 12 hours? 6 hours? Was thinking of using one on same timer as my grow lights? What has worked best for you all?
I have put in spagnum moss two wet stick stems with multiple nodes of a Philodendron Furcatum that lost all leaves and roots from shipping shock as this is a very finicky plant . I put it in a prop.box with 80%humidity and 20 °C . I also have in there two Verricosums an alocasia dragon scale, and a Cisus Discolor node. I hope they'll survive. I check on them everyday I'm pretty obsessed 😅 and terrified of rot. Fingers crossed 🤞
I’m also from Toronto and I was thinking how the only place I feel comfortable buying good quality sphagnum moss is at the pet store, and the dollarama bins for props. I guess it’s depending on availability and reliability. I find everything is more expensive in Toronto then it is for people other places.
I’m trying to propagate wet sticks (golden pothos and exotica) but they are not doing anything! The cuttings are still green but no roots or new growth point. They’ve been in the box for a few months now. Help? :(
Do you have your box in an area that warm and bright. Do you see condensation in the box? Pothos are quick to root while I find Scindapsus takes a bit longer.

Sneak in a nap, still great video
Not to worry. You are fine. Such good information. I think the most fun propagation is the wet stick. It is like magic
Get some sleep when you can, hunty 🙏🏼😊
GREAT video! This helped me so much! You are awesome and I hope you get back to feeling like yourself soon!
You are always amazing and inspiring
I always save my Starbucks cups and other plastic cups I get for sphagnum moss cuttings,

Same! Great humidity container hehe
Ohhh never thought of that!
Great idea, the clear ones with a dome lid.

Don’t give up on it Lizz. I think loosely placing the moss and heat mat or really warm area will make a difference.
Thanks for sharing! Just applied to my SOH :)

Thank you. Really working hard to have it ready for you guys to come and visit. ☺️
I love the results I’ve been getting from my sphagnum prop box. Just started using perlite only, as a medium. Loving that too! Thanks for sharing 🪴🙂

South Africa ...understandable as you setting up your shop...I wish you the best
I managed to grow a leaf from string of hearts into its own plant! No node required!
I just made my first box a few days ago! This answered all the questions I had! Thank you!!

Very good video Christian. No doubt you are tired. Wait until you open the store. Then the tiredness really comes. Good luck and I wish you the best.

I’ve been using plastic bags as a prop box because Right now I don’t have in room for a plastic box but it seems to be working for my Hoya cutting

Love your videos. How about going over what plants propagate best in water and which in spag? I never certain.

Such great idea's. Thank you so much. I bin following for awail. Thanks.
I use moss from the forest near my house haha and it's been doing great job so far for everything 😄
I add a little Fungicide to the water that I soak the moss in before placing it in my propagation boxes.
Oh yes, this is actually a good step to do that I forgot yo mention, thanks for sharing.
That's a very good idea, thanks =)
Great video. Any tips for string of bananas??

Awesome thank you, 🌱🌿🪴
Great video! Thank you! 🤩😍. Excitement and owning a business is tiring! Great job!💓
Nice, now you really have Scindapsus Silver Lady. 👍🏻
Thank you for making this video, i learn a lot😊
I looked up Rubber Fig using “Google Lens” and then clicked video and the first 3 videos where all yours “Crazy Plant Guy” - Christan.

This is awesome, hoping to prop my pothos plants over fall/winter!
Love propagating plants during the fall/winter season, cause by the time spring comes around they’re ready to move out of the box 😁
Great video!!! Can you use the common plant names too? I am soo new to this I don't know any of the Latin plant names lol
Could you share where you got the plastic boxes for propagation?
Thank you. This was very helpful.
I was wondering if you can regrow the wet sticks.
Thanks for the tips, where is your store located?
I love prop boxes, I use one as a rehab box.
For sure, great way to rehab plants too.

Very informative video! Thank you!
How long would you have the heat mat on for?
Can you recycle the moss after you put the baby plant in soil? and put it back in the prop box?
I have reused moss before, especially if they’re still intact and aren’t breaking down. I’ll usually just clean and wash them before reusing.
When do you put the probations into soil ? Great video.
Thank you 😊
I’m truly impressed with your accomplishment; the shop is looking really good! I noticed a lot of people are using perlite to propagate plants. Do you have any experience propagating with perlite?

Do you leave the grow light on all the time or is it on a timet
I leave them for about 12-14 hours a day. Mirroring the same time the day light would be out during the summer season
I always save plastic fruit containers and food delivery boxes to reuse as prop boxes!
Amazon has that moss now!!
I recently put my monstera cutting in a vase it’s not see through though it’s a glass pitcher is that okay?
Hey! I love your channel and this video was extremely useful to me right now! I am starting to sell plants, mostly cuttings from my mother plants, and I have been interested in finding a wholesale supplier. If I can ask how did you find yours?
Thank you for all your hard work on these videos and maybe someday I will visit your shop!
Thank you for your videos
Any idea why some cuttings rot? I've done prop boxes with moss for a while, some rot, some take.
My guess is because you didn’t let the cutting callous over. The success rate is a bit higher if you let it callous over to prevent rotting at the end of the cutting
