JUNEBUG | SHORT FILM SUNDAY
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 сер 2024
- At 28, Junie is a writer, obsessed with capturing the essence of her childhood growing up with her musician father, Davis. Davis, an alcoholic drummer with an infectious charm and an unending tenderness for his daughter is proving difficult for Junie to put into words. As Junie struggles to articulate Davis in her writing and to her boyfriend Calvin, she’s transported back in time through her own childhood memories of him and their undeniable connection.
How do you explain someone both impossible to love and impossible not to? JUNEBUG is an exploration of the fierce love between a daughter and father, the complexities of an absence that words can’t touch, the nostalgic and transitive power of music and the wonderland of memory. The film shows the love between a young girl and her father and expands on the impact of their relationship through her adulthood as an artist with fond, yet emotionally complicated memories of growing up with her dad.
Directed by Winter Dunn
Written by Nicky Davis
Produced by CJ Faison, Winter Dunn, Takara Joseph and Sandra Evers-Manly
Based on an original idea by Winter Dunn & Nicky Davis

I'm VERY proud to have worked on this project. Doing the wardrobe was an honor! Thank you Issa Rae for presenting our film. Thank you, Winter Dunn, Nicky Davis, CJ Faison, Takara Joseph, and Sandra Evers-Manly for the opportunity.
The wardrobe was very eye-catching and felt true to the characters and the scenes. I really like the striped dress Junebug (child) wears and the last look Junebug (adult) wears too.
Proud of you brother!!
This awesome 😎
You did great J!
Thank you to everyone supporting our film! It really was a work of love and everyone poured their all into it!
Forever daddy's girl here. My grandmothers time is drawing near and I already know my dad will be a wreck. Pray for us y'all.tears
This is a beautiful film. Children are so pure and their love unconditional toward their parents. Even in adullthood, they/we have a way of blurring the pains from our upbringing and focusing on the joys.
This reminded me of my relationship with my father who suffered from bipolar. We had the best of times and I saw him go through the worst of times too.
This makes me miss my dad! 17 years without him has not been easy. 😔
This soooo beautiful and so vulnerable ✨
:20 that’s my baby girls. Congrats Winter and the crew!
I knew that was her! She’s so adorable 😩
Beautiful story about understanding and loving someone without trying to "fix" them. I love the communication that the couple demonstrated especially seeing Junebug's childhood through her perspective which wasn't completely negative or positive. Love the vulnerability Junebug showed even when she couldn't find the words to do her part in having a healthy partnership.
This was amazing! I felt like I had lived her life. You guys perfectly captured that father and daughter dynamic
Whoever designed the intro waiting music video thingy, knows what their doing. They understood the assignment. Its so intriguing to watch
This is gorgeous. More Issa please
Beautiful! Love this! Everything about it is amazing! I especially loved the casting choices! 🙌🏾❤️
Loved the likeness of all the women from young to old! Danielle Mone Truitt is the truth!!!!! Whenever she cries, I do too! The gentleman who played the father was so swift in his mood swings, it gave me chills! Amazing!
Beautifully done. WOW!
I’m so ready for more. It makes me think a lot about my dad…
Love it. Super vulnerable ❤
Wow... I just had a vivid memory of when I was three years old. My first experience of fear...seeing the world from a miniature vantage point. Thanks for sharing your story . Writing can be like hold up a mirror. Telling it how it was/is over how you’d wanted it to be is tough but therapeutic.
Kind of scary how much I relate to the dad. Beautiful show. Hope its a series
Yeah me too 😔
Beautifully captured. The actors across the board were excellent in communicating the realness of the story. Very heartfelt. The little girl was so honest, tender, strong and wise beyond her years. Great direction and none of it happens without the story. Well done on all accounts.
That was phenomenal!!!!!! Absolutely phenomenal. Made my heart cry and smile!!! Keep em coming!!!!
Wow 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Really made me cry! I never had this daddy-daughter love when I was little! This was so sweet!
This is so beautiful ✨✨✨✨
The man playing the father is so handsome
I see what you mean. The rugged type of handsome. He even got that gravelly voice.
Thanks for sharing this with us! Terrence is a ray of light!
So beautiful
Beautifullllllll work of art. Relatable on so many levels. Thank you Issa. Kudos beautiful talented cast and crew
Beautiful trailer. Can't wait to see the full film on Sunday!!
See ya soon :)
Eye opening but Triggering
Amazing
I loved this, the father and daughter relationship was beautiful.
this was an amazing short! I love how the story is revealed through the music and how the concept is simple (no special effects needed or complicated shots). The writing was phenomenal and can’t wait to see more 👏🏾
This was a beautiful watch all around 🙌🏾
This right here… My God, today.
This was so amazing! It made me think of my dad that passed 6 years ago, but reminded me that I’ll always be a daddy’s girl! ❤️
This was so beautiful
Great storyline, and is relevant. I just had my daughter less than a year ago, and my biggest fear is not being the man she needs me to be. It's a fear of a lot of men worldwide, especially what we deal with in the world. It can be tough, this spoke to me.
This is going to be goooood!
Y’all killed it
Beautiful ✨
I know he didn’t come on the bed with his “outside clothes” 😂
FELT DAT....MWAH💋....🙏🏾
1,2,3. 1,2!!
Wonderful 🖤
❤
Brilliant 🤎🙏🏾
You know what? Junebug is the perfect nickname for a girl.😁 I don't know why it seems like only boy's get that nickname.
I believe the lil girl in Crooklyn was nicknamed JuneBug
@@lilredmama8231 Her nickname was Troy 😁, but it was probably because she was the only girl.
👑👑
I will see you Sunday
One of the better Sunday entries; actually shows off skill rather than some of the "Participation 🏆" entries that get shown. This one lacks a proper ending, but as a POV examination of a loved one's mental illness (bi-polar?), it was an interesting watch.
"a proper ending"?
How does one submit a film doing extremely well in the festivals for short film Sunday consideration?
How long are the short films?
Kind of nervous on how this short movie is going to end 😬
So are we :)
Meeeee too!!! As a woman who doesn't know her bio father ANYTHING about "dad's" always hits me particularly hard. I'm just such a Issa fan that I watched, not even knowing it was like this, just God keeping me in his arms🙏🏽 keep going y'all!!!🖤 love 💯
Anyone know the ending credit song?
