    I love this short and appreciate Stella’s point of view. I see a lot of myself in her. Moving far away to pursue a dream and things not working in your favor. Getting caught up in your new world, so you don’t speak with your family as much because you want to run away from the problems and pains they have caused you. Just like Stella, I’ve come to realize that your family is there no matter what. Sometimes we forget that. We can’t run from our family problems, and no matter how much pain they’ve caused us, consciously or not, they still love us.
    Her coming home in a time of need and realizing what she needed (her family) was right infront her. Maybe learning her grandfather is sick was her realization not to take her family for granted. At the end she showed accountability when speaking with her mother. I don’t think the comments about not agreeing with Stella’s actions or disliking her are negative. They are simply the opinions of others. No her actions towards her family and the decisions she made were right. By people voicing that doesn’t mean they were taking the space for black women to mess up away. Apart of messing up is accountability. We can mess up but we still need to see the facts in how we are acting and affecting others. I look forward to seeing more of this and how Stella’s life will unfold. Especially whether she chooses to go back to NY or not.

    I loved Stella with the World on Her Shoulders! I want more! I love how Stella is not this super polished perfect black female character. It makes her feel more real. I feel in Hollywood black characters are too perfect or a complete mess. I would definitely tune in!

    • @michellegomez5429

      Bizzy Bee Nursing Best comment & it shows reality. What I don't understand is why ppl don't understand this .. plus they are tripping on her for sleeping with the Boss when majority of these chicks commenting are sleeping around for free, taking care of the guy whom suppose to be their man, life is a mess and buying bundles of hair that totals up to rent & car note, oh! I forgot groceries too.... I loved this short film and I'm tired of ppl thinking we as Black women always have to be a certain way and prove something to the world. This show is life, there are a lot of Stella's out here... Yes, I'm half Black but I still know the struggles...

    • @BizzyBeeNursing
      @BizzyBeeNursing 6 років тому +8

      I died when you said bundles of hair that totals up to rent and car note, haha! I agree Black women are not monolithic. No one is all good and no one is all bad. That's why I like Stella. She's just trying to find her way. So she's bound to make some mistakes along he way. It's called being human.

    • @sandyg.8318
      @sandyg.8318 6 років тому +7

      Bizzy Bee Nursing soooo letting your roommate who happens to be white STEAL your rent money and not do anything is better? Fucking your boss on the thought that you, as the newest hire, would get promoted, is real? And you are black too in corporate America? Not being reachable then getting mad when you don't know what's happening in your family? Cursing at your father because he is tell the truth? Sorry but she seemed like an ungrateful attention seeking unrealistic spoiled little ass to me. Anyone like this, despite their race, is fucked up. Oh I guess I was supposed to feel like "oh she's so flawed, how unconventional and authentic". Not really.... #cringe

    • @BizzyBeeNursing
      @BizzyBeeNursing 6 років тому +8

      Because she is flawed is why the series is interesting. Her being unconventional adds another layer to the series. It evokes different emotions and thoughts. And believe or not there are Black women who do live this way. Struggling to run away from their past, having strained relationships with their family, putting up a fake facade to save face, doing whatever they "think" they have to do to make it in corporate America, and/or mimicking what they see other "successful" women/people are doing and realizing in the end the rules are vastly different for them. Although it's cringey it's also authentic. Sometimes life isn't pretty.

    damn people are so harsh on Stella, can black women make mistakes and not be perfect all the time? ( even with our hair). of course I don't like a lot of the things stella did, but it seems like she can learn form her mistakes. I relate to her, not everyone is born "woke". We are still unlearning and learning how to navigate the world as a black women. not every black woman is gonna be the "Nubian queen". anyways i think it was a great short film specially cause she wasn't the "ideal" black woman.

    I think Stella's character depicts the realty of many black woman who grew up in suburbs similar to where her family lives - from her unkempt hair to her unlikeable personality and naivete about the black experience. I think she's beautiful and a great actress and all of the negative comments about how annoying she is... are actually the intention of the film. They didn't make her annoying without doing it purposely, so I don't think people complaining about her selfishness is them not letting black women make mistakes. She's annoying just like her roommate is a duhty teef and her boss is an asshole.

They never really prance around with sew ins and wigs all the time. This is the average. The wigs and sew ins with designer is rare. This is middle class which would I guess count ass black high class.

This shows them that there strength (& STELLA'S) come from community and family. It shows that a big fish in a small pond wins over a small fish in a big pond, sometimes. Yes, Stella's hair does look bad and it is distracting, but that shouldn't be all these comments are about. It was a well-constructed film and showed the reality of many young adults who are just starting off in the middle of their own family and starting their own lives. I just feel like the comments are grazing over all the good in the film for the bad.

    I love how refreshing and relatable this is. The city life is truly the "dream life" but from experience even Ive learned that family and loved ones out weight NYC like nothing else. There's a peace and clam about the suburbs and being around love ones that is so hard to find in the city. We chase our "dreams" but give up happiness in the long run. I love the flow of this short film and hope there is a part 2.

    Great short film and a beautiful depiction of a loving, caring, strong, black family...I loved the fact that their family has a very diverse group of friends!!...And I feel like it was hard for them to keep secrets...And lie to one another so I was extremely glad about that...That I could tell they had great communication between all of them...And the fact that their oldest daughter understood clearly...The position her family was in especially when it applied to money!!!!...And that if they had any extra money it would have been her's cuz they would have helped her...They #truly would but because of her bad timing...With her situation and the fact that their dealing...With her grandfathers chemo therapy/medication!!...That they're unable to at this time...I don't feel she was being unappreciative...She #understood her Mom & Dad weren't in #any position to help her right now!!...Such a beautiful short film and if I had to give...This short film an ending...I would say she ends up staying home for a while...Calling the deadbeat roommates & letting them know...And her boss know she appreciated the job opportunity...But unfortunately she will have to refuse the invitation to come back...Right now in this moment in time I feel...She would be of better service at home helping her family...But thank you again for this wonderful opportunity you've given me to grow...And find myself but I have to say no at this time...She ends up finding a better job close to home...Her family decides not to sell the house!!...And she's able to spend more quality time with her grandfather!!...And the rest of her family and she ends up rekindling her relationship with that handsome young man😍😊

    What type of black folks y'all know😂😂😂.... either you know a Stella, worked with Stella, or stood in line next to one. This breaks away from the typical black woman stereotype. Super wealthy and in control or a crackhead. We are so use to white folks being our voice that when we see something different we are confused. There are a 1000's if not millions of versions of black womaness. Black women have flaws!!!! and if you have such a negative reaction to the character maybe there's a little Stella in you🤷🏽‍♀️.

    There is so much life lessons in this movie, especially to young black women climbing the corporate ladder.
    1. Ensure that family takes priority, keep in touch and visit as much as possible. Don't take family for granted.
    2. Don't let society stereotype you and define your future.
    3. Don't be too trusting and neglectful.

    What a great story. I felt like it captured a real story about a person who just happens to be black and a woman. Her flaws are honest and real. Also it was also filmed so well, all of the perspectives and angles grabbed my attention. Can't wait to view more short films. Cheers!

  • @dashanee0390

    I like this film and the characters imperfections, there's beauty in them. Its so organic and refreshing to see a black woman not have it "all together", with her edges and hair laid, or curls "poppin". Reminds me of myself and my struggles. Yes I have made (and still make) bad decisions, my hair is nappy asf, and my attire isn't always the best but; hey, I'm human and still loved. Great film!

      DaShanee' Miles It was refreshing to see a different black character. Like someone else stated black women either are portrayed as super wealthy and in control or crackheads. I think her hair is a reflection of what is going with her financialy and emotionaly. I really liked the film and would like to see more. I'm so tired if seeing divas and hoodboogers it was so good to see something different.

  • @BuddyL

    This may be the start of something, but it needs some refining.
    There's a germ of an idea here, but it definitely has "student film" written all over it: insecure camera work; (mostly) tin-eared dialogue; and a lack of characterisation, even for a short. There IS something here, but the lack of experience shows.
    Keep at it: listen to how people talk to get better at dialogue; don't force characters into unnatural plot points (the ending phone was a deus ex machina, but why would Stella decline tbe offer? And what's with the hatred of NY?); and be more secure with the camera - just brcause you CAN get coverage from every angle doesn't mean you SHOULD.
    Best of luck with the next one.

      @Kay Ann 🤔 I *would* ask what errors you imagined you saw in my comment (which is still unedited), but the fact that *you* wrote out "type-os" in response to a comment from two years ago proves you aren't the brightest 💡.
      Off with you now. You've embarrassed yourself enough.

    Stella is just spoiled rotten. That's the only thing wrong with her. She received alot of love and encouragement growing up. She comes from a wonderful home with doting parents. She has a network of family and friends that love her unconditionally and are constantly rooting for her. She is so used to it that she is totally unaware of how blessed she is. Reminds me of my daughter.

Not getting a head is the reason why black ppl need to start there own business.create your own opportunities.
