- Joe Satriani plays "Ice-9" and begining a guitar battle with Mike Keneally.
Hellfest, Clisson (France), June 18, 2016.
Band:
Joe Satriani - Guitar
Mike Keneally - Keyboards And Guitar
Bryan Beller - Bass
Marco Minnmeann - Drums
Rhythm guitarist is the amazing Mike Keneally. Mike has played around San Diego for decades and, in fact, once reviewed music for a local magazine called The Reader. At the time Mike was onboard (30yrs ago!) I released a humble singer-songwriter cassette that got to his table and he gave me some very kind words. Mr Keneally is just as amazing on keys as he is on guitar and he's EASILY the finest guitarist to ever come out of San Diego- hands down, period . . .
Thats great but hes fat, that only takes away some of the magic that joe produces on stage when you have a fat guy beside him wanking his guitar.
I've heard better. Period.
А Сатриани так мальчишка 😂
@@DaveDexterMusiche’s in joe satrianis bsnd and you’re in the comments section!
One thing I love about Joe is his instrumentals are always so groovy and they truly sound like songs within themselves.
äh sorry theY are "Songs" in themselves 😂
I said to myself that I was only goin to watch the first few seconds of it, ended up watching the whole thing lol.
TheDede508 me too huehue
Wooo same for me! Lot of time without listening this!
I got almost to the end & I don't even much like electrified rock. But this Satriani guy has paid his dues & is still ahead of the pack.
How could you only watch a few seconds of Satch? Lol It always turns into hours for me
TheDede508 same
I've been playing guitar for 45years. I've listened to Jimi, Eddie, santana and everybody who is great. Joe pretty much picks up where I think Jimi Hendrix left off. God bless you Joe and get back to your roots. You are a living legend. Peace.
Fun fact: the day Hendrix died, Joe got the news and immediately quit football at school telling his coach he was gonna dedicate his life to playing guitar
I think Joe is the modern day Jeff Beck with beautiful composition and feel..
Nice playing by Satriani but you gotta love Marco, he's crushing it everytime
Marco Minneman, Bryan Beller and Mike Keneally. Oh yeah and Joe Satriani. That is one virtuoso-laden stage!!
Lance Groody Joe has played with some incredible musicians over the years, but this was my favorite combination by far.
This was by far the best combo imo. Marco is a beast!
Mahalo..Alohaz
Damn glad I caught yer top comment for this man, when I saw Marco Minna...its all the clickbait I needed, faster than a lightning bolt....
Joe Satriani the professor of guitar. The commander. The best of all.
I've seen Satriani 3 times, and I plan to see him again when he tours with Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, and Jason Bonham! Truly get to see 4 heavyweights at the same time!
This is what's keeping rock alive ❤
Marco sticking in the thrash beat at the end of the whammy section! Superb!
Especially the last section. The ride cymbal is independent to the snare like a polyrhythm of some kind. So cool. You can see Joe and Mike acknowledge it right afterwards.
I like that he performed it like he was having a lot of fun with it, it really sounded like it.
Joe’s always been great. Phenomenally musical.
still my favorite satriani song, it’s so cool!
It's cool as ice...x9!
Paul the Box satch boogie is the best joe song
It is groovy man!!!
Raspberry Jam is as good as it gets!
Satriani and Vai ( although obviously Vai is absent here )...such stage presence and flair with a mastery of so many guitar music styles and techniques - I just can't help but be mesmerized by their playing...BRAVO and thanks for posting this gem !!
How good is Marco, I have seen Joe live many times, this line up is something else, next level!!!!
With due respect to all guitarists of the present and the past -
Joe Satriani is the greatest of all time.
Steve Vai and Joe the best in the world
Bottomless full of ideas.
agreed . sci=fi themed songs never fails to bore you any where any time. a bonafied musician
I love how everyone in this band has the "super musician" aura instead of just Joe. Clothes and colours do help realizing how legendary all the guys on stage are

Joe's most exciting backing band I've seen!
100% for sure !!
There's not a guitarist living or dead that Keneally can't go toe to toe with. He can play anything with anyone, any band.
Holy shit! I just realized who was on bass and drums. What a legendary lineup!
The best Satriani's band ever. Love them all. Incredible talented musicians.
Joe's getting pretty good he's almost there A few more lessons and he's ready to start playing professionally :-) he's got a big career ahead of him
I smell an investment opportunity.....
Haha
Probably nowdays he is a professional guitar player... Or I hope at least
man, you are funny.
@M T no comprende
Imagine the massive horror waking up in front of that audience with a guitar, and about to have a guitar battle with Satriani.
That'd be so fun!!
Except for those actually qualified to do so. :-)
Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest
i'll loose 4 sure but die happy (if it is a mortal match) !

Dueling guitars is amazing. Great performance.
Mike Keneally is such a underrated guitarist.
Was about to leave the identical comment. Saw him live once, in a small bar. Was amazing.
There's so much guitarists underrated... Perhaps myself too. Serious.
Saw him with joe at g3 he was amazing
Not to Frank he wasn’t
I've interviewed Mike, such a nice guy.
Such an awesome tone! Getting that sound live is amazing.
What a performance 😮 love the guitar too, looks sharp 🤘
Zlatan Ibrahimovic on bass, really cool.
hhhhhhhhhh yes
😂
I think this might be his most talented group of musicians. Those drums sound amazing!
I can never stop watching this video when it pops up in my feed. OMG they are all so good and tight as hell!!!!!!! Inspires me as a player. So glad I've seen Joe live a few times.
You should look up his up in flames live video on here. Quite the jam.I like him by himself.
180,000+ views and not a single comment on how awesome this was?
Bigngreen this was awesome
Mike Keneally is a jack of all trades. Love that guy
Nice to see Mike Kenealy who is 1 of my all time favorite players .
Can’t say as I have ever heard of him.
He has quite a background. I think I recognize him from touring with Dethklok.
Look him up. Or don’t.
Nazmo King he played with Zappa back in the 70’s and toured with Vai in the 90s. Phenomenal musician. He has a bunch of solo stuff out, but before warned; a lot of it is kinda avant-garde and very bizarre. Lol
He plays that guitar as easy as a walk in the park. Amazing Joe.
I’d thought I’d seen every video of this song. I was wrong. Then it appeared, algorithmed right between Greg Howe & Michael Fath. Thank you for this.
So glad i was in the first row... even today i can't believe this was real. This was the best moment of the show !
Joe is a true vitruoso. He has tons of knowledge and technical skill and tries bot to show off. He just writes and plays emotional, awesome music.
Best looking guitar I’ve ever seen him play. Such a cool paint job.
Never really listened to this guy, but dang it sounds like he really absorbed some jimi Hendrix quirks in his soloing theres no way he isn't a massive jimi fan. I like it
y tho He is. I think Joe started really getting serious about his guitar playing right after Jimi died - as from an interview.
Joe was a drummer up until September 18th 1970, and a guitarist from that afterwards. He's unashamedly a massive Hendrix fan (and loves a bit of the Jeff Beck too).
That’s what he’s always said about Hendrix .
Man, Joe is an absolute beast on guitar, but all 4 of those band members are some of the greatest around. Such talent on that stage, would have loved to see that live!
Why is everything this man touch so smooth lol
Because he's Italian....
Mama mia !!!!
To be that smooth and that comfortable with your playing in front of a crowd that size, is the topper most.
...великолепный музыкант ,столько времени слушаю ,не перестаёт радовать. восхищать и удивлять.
Он ещё и пел, послушай "I believe"
+Роман ...да я слышал )))
+Serega. serega ...и ещё Big bad moon. )))
Тоже слушал, он вроде только в том альбоме и пел.
+Роман ...мне больше нравится его игра.)
I love how Joe always plays half of the rythym along with the lead part live when it's two separate tracks on the album. Most musicians do little cheats live to make it smoother and less mistakes but Satch bumps it up a notch by playing more than a single track from the album at once
This aspect of guitar playing is the main reason why his song Super Funky Badass wound up being my most favorite song that I've learned on the guitar in 20+ years of playing. Bouncing back and forth between rythym and lead melodies like that is a neat challenge and it's fun to see how far I can push it and how clean i can get it to sound. it's fun to play around with on songs like this one as well! and THIS MAN does it soooo tremendously!!!
Most beautiful guitar i've ever did see! seems like a muscle car!
That's the Point
Too bad it’s like $2500... yikes. I’d never pay that much for an Ibanez.
It's got V8 pickups that make you play faster 👍
@@MrJackal43 So...it's good enough for Joe, but not for you?
@@MrJackal43 ibanez are the best guitars.
One of my favorites from "Surfing..." Great sound quality for a live track!
Amazing performance. I saw him with this band, it's wonderful to have 2/3 of "The Aristocrats" and "the amazing Mike Keneally" onstage. Marco Minnemann is a monster on the drums!
PS. It really dazzles me to be the first comment on such amazing video!
Con Marco Minneman, es un lujo🎸grande banda ahí ✌️ gracias 🎶
Satriani gives all us balding Italian-American men hope of becoming a guitar god someday.
A bald head makes you more aerodynamic while shredding bro....its science
@@RizoSupernova haha
Joe could have ended up bald and not being able to shred. He didn't do that bad after all. I would give all my hair to be able to play like him.
Just as Dylan gave those who cannot sing.
WOW! THAT JUST CHEERED ME UP!
The drummer is really pounding it out love it
Marco minneman is an absolute Monster. Check his audition to Dream theater
The independence at 2:02 - 2:04 is insane. You can see Joe and Mike appreciated that one.
@@ThePepitothepew used to jam with Marco when he’d stop in a little bar in Temecula and we were doing acoustic open mic night! We always had a fun time! He played so hard he put a hole in my friend Jeremy’s Cajon! lol😅
Fantastic hi-energy set from Joe who always gives 110% - and great to see Marco and Bryan moonlighting from the Aristocrats :0)
2:46 wow what a bend
When is this man gonna age? He’s still the man!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤠🤠🤠🤠
The combined talent on that stage :o
Joe Satriani is the Best ! Greetings from KK Sabah,Malaysia🇲🇾🤘🏼☮
Joe Satriani - the best guitar player ever! 😎🤘🏻
My absolute favorite Satch song!
didn’t know mr worldwide played guitar
Maybe his rap game isn't good but he is a beast at guitar
lol 😂😂
No words needed. Awesomeness.
amazing!
I like this performance, Joe's playing with some feel here🎶🎸
I'm there in the crowd at 5:21. Satch was awesome!!!
Man ! What a solid formation. Minnmeann, Beller, Keneally. Joe is sitting on rock.
Joe taught Steve Vai amongst other greats, he's the monster of all monsters in tone, taste and style, in concert is even tastier than studio endeavors, GIANT
He also taught Kirk Hammett, but let's not hold this against him. :)
What a tone! The best!
Love his other drummer JC. But Marco Minneman is one of the best. This BASS players the bomb too. From the Aristocrats. No doubt
A real guitar show man
Great to see the respect gives by Hellfest'organisation to one of the best guitarist ever ...not a battle but a jam between 2 artists ...Competition is for suckers ...; at 75 years old , joe will always bust off the scene when young clowns will have already retire .....
Feeling good music.
is that Marco Minnemann and Mike Keneally? wow
I think he just performed an exorcism on that guitar.
Hands it off to guitar tech: "this axe is clean"
This axe is now Sacred
Joe is my guitar idol
Hahahah
Haven't heard this one since Joe was doing his 1st big tour. He's sounding really good here.
I think that is the first time I have seen one of Joe's rhythm guitarists allowed to shine on stage. Refreshing.
Mike Keneally is a guitar legend in his own right, most famous for playing with Vai and Zappa.
RME76048 nope
That dual was DOPE !
best bass ever
Maybe not ever, but pretty damn good.
if you don't appreciate Bryan check out metalocolypse on adult swim (cartoon, not porn ) w.his band deathclock. hillarious
Tomas Mauleon if im not mistaken that's the signature bass from Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse ...
Joe Satriani , sem comentários .... É o mestre da guitarra.
Joe Satriani is so good that he put John Petrucci from two different dimensions to play Bass and Drums while he smash the guitar.
Marco Minnemann may be best drummer he's ever had. Saw this lineup with Joe on his 2013 Unstoppable Momentum tour in Denver, was just amazing, couldn't believe it when I saw so many people leaving before the encore.
he is more electrifying now than before whem he was just starting
Joe you are my favorite guitarist
Shredding on that strat! Nice! It's great when guitar tech looking types can join in😂
Love this track and all performances
Jeff Bezos is more talented than I thought.
He's Lord Voldemort
😂
Lol! I thought Joe 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Omg, that's the best thing ive heard all day. 😂🤣😂🤣
I love how these musicians play music !.
Aways a pro...one of the greatest :)
Best guitar sound I've heard from Joe by far. Wonder what he has changed.
*Paul Gilbert Leaves The Room Laughing Like Darth Sidious*
Always loved this tune
Jeff Bezos on guitar and Christian Bale on Drums - pretty good.
Fucking awesome! Mike Kennelly was made for this gig and it’s cool as hell that Joe lets him stretch out his chops like that. He’s my favorite rock instrumentalist ever, and it’s his compositional sense that makes him better (to me) than his student Vai. Killer shit!
Jason becker tribute miss him playing in such time
🤯 joe, and the band kicking butt, and taking numbers.
3:09 what a groove
Thanks for posting. What a great band and so cool to see so many musicians on the side of stage checking out the music.
Steve Vai had himself a pretty good guitar teacher in high school😂
Kurt Cobain too!
Kirk Hammett too.
Yeah Satriani sent Vai walking home after he got to a lesson and hadnt done what Joe told him from the wwek before.
Student becomes the master.
@@HooksBill Not in this case!Vai will never be Satriani's Master!
Great composition, attitude, technique and familiarity make this easy to listen to for a wider audience than say, a math fusion wizard. His chops may have been surpassed by many but I ain't no snob to a good 'song'. They sounds awesome.
Amen to that man!
this man must be from outer space :-)
His jacket is
Man I remember when "Surfing with the Alien" came out, it blew my mind, actually I went out and bought a new head unit and speakers for my car specifically so I could drive around listening to it pumping as loud as possible!
I blew the speakers in my Dads old Cortina playing my Surfing with the Alien tape full blast. Good times.
@@BT-fg1is haha, it was one of those tapes that was perfect for driving and playing as loud as possible, I'd go for a drive just to play it, and if I was on my way home I'd sometimes have to do a last minute detour to finish a song, haha actually my missus busted me a couple of times "didn't I see you drive past the house 10 minutes ago?" :)
@@ats-3693 I know exactly what you're talking about man.
I can’t understand that someone dislike this video, sorry, if you do click to watch this video, supose that you like the guitars videos and is impossible that this video can’t like you, what you expect watch here? Can someone that gave dislike explain me the reason why? only curiosity. Thanks !
Some people just hate rock n' roll so much that they want to do everything they can to push it down.
