      Indeed he did. He has in the past not given the same due respect to Jimmy Page, also by any standards a master of guitar and inventor. He repeatedly mocked him and had unkind things to say even in later years. I have total respect for opinions and objective criticism. I don’t like things said in a mean streak. But like Liam Gallagher, Elton John, Cher and many others, he was opinionated and often expressed it in ways better left for non public consumption. That being said, if he were perfect he wouldn’t even exist. And thank God he did exist. The artistry he laid upon us was not of this universe

      Fabio Vinicius I hate to tell you but Eddie said in an interview that it was when he saw jimmy page playing the les paul with one hand that he took all his inspiration from and created his whole style from it....all the 80s bands got their inspiration from Jimmy page, and you can hear it in all their music. The talent is there with Eddie, but the songs aren't....not even a bit of poetry,, just power riffs. Entertaining fir sure but lacks sentiment.

    Eddie was the smily-est, truest, most humble, grateful, respectful & kindest of rock stars OR musicians & fucking incredibly amazing guitarist...NATURALLY. It ALL came so natural to him & his endearing literally loveable perma- smile. His death causes me actual grief & I never met him but did see Van Halen in 84, 85, 87, 90 & more I forget exactly from the Salt Palace to Irvine Meadows & a couple more totalling 11 concerts over the years. Eddie ALWAYS delivered ALWAYS shared his love for his fans... In front row once he kept smiling, joking & talking with us as he hardcore jammed & played to a sold out stadium audience during eruption. He made us feel like we were friends & in a very special Eddie way we were for that brief moment. I was so stunned by how he treated us like equals or maybe even a bit like he admired us as in he was such a cool regular person too.
    Eddie was the 1st person who taught me by pure example only that true success and Mastery at anything comes especially to those who are grateful for it, show it and share it with others in like fashion and manner etc.. He had his demons of course but we all do so who cares his good way outshined them as is supposed to be the case. He died surrounded by even his ex and all who loved him/his family.

      @SuperBuzz71 9 років тому +28

      I couldn't agree more. The irony of EVH is that he is so known as a soloist, especially among guitar players but his riffs are known by everyone. Panama is the Brown Sugar of the 80's. The song 5150 and Drop Dead Legs, especially the outro are rhythm guitar riff masterpieces. For all the technique EVH brought to the guitar the thing he's forgotten for is bringing back the 3rd. Power chords are great but he perfected a way to compensate tune so he could being the 3rd back into the harmony with big tube overdrive without it sounding like crap. God bless EVH and that magical Plexi head for giving us the BROWN SOUND. That is his true legacy. Too bad for us the mindless compression record companies force upon us in the age of the volume wars, riffs are not allowed breath anymore. Now days to have any feel or dynamics most songs on the radio have a "quiet part" and then kick in to the "heavy part" in pure formula. You shouldn't nee a f'ing quite part to make the heavy part rock all the time! Nothing really rocks anymore on rock radio because it has no feel due to the click tracked drums, shit loads of compression and the redundant power chords that would make even the great Toni Iomi embarrassed. Bring back the feel and bring back the 3rd.

    A true master of his craft, and a genuine, humble guy. A natural born entertainer. I am so glad that I was able to live the Van Halen reign first hand! Thank YOU Eddie for sharing your gift with us!

    His humility...and respect for Les was. the sign of a great artist. My goodness could he raise the bar of anyone on the stage with him. Can`t shake this death of someone I never knew, this time...

    GOAT easily.
    He has inspired millions. Yes, very sad that he’s gone. But similar to the way I felt when we lost Bowie: grateful that I occupied this small speck of dust at the same time he did. Thank you for everything.

    When he is goofing around with other instrumentalists like this, improvising, you get the sense of just how sharp he was. I mean dead on the beat with every note, perfect timing and taste and mix with the others, and masterful switch between rhythm and lead at any given millisecond.
