If you don't see the sprite renderer, then it is most likely because the selected object is not considered a sprite, if so then go to the hierarchy section and click your secondary mouse button, then hover over 2D Objects and select Sprite, then go to the inspector, here you can change the image of your sprite, and also use the sorting layer.
For anyone trying to animate a sprite In version 2018.4.1. You need to open put a sprite on screen, select it, then go to window and select animate, then animate. This will bring you to a menu where you need to select create, then one by one slide in the animation frames. I really hope this helps, even though it might not be the best explanation, unity has a better one on their webpage. Have fun!

if you want you can replace them with your own, handcrafted sprites later.... Where is the game design when people end up creating their game without code, without their own sprites? I think this video needs more emphasis on how you import your own sprites, because you make it sound like making your own sprites is some hard thing that you don't always do. I mean, It's not too hard to make some really basic sprites and import them in, showing one of the most common ways of basic early level design. I know this is just the basics, but I've seen practically everywhere, even on your dicord server, some people get the wrong idea. Other than that, I love the video! keep up the good work!
Well it's not that it's hard to import the sprites but that it's difficult for a beginner to quickly create something, even as an example, that will have some semblance of what you intend the Sprite to do. Even if it isnt that difficult it takes considerably more time to create the Sprite and then import it then it would to grab a free Sprite from the market place. However if he hasn't created a video series about it yet I would like to see him due so about Sprite creation and importing as well.

Damn i thought Unity crashed during the guide.
I'm about to make my own game right now, cheers mate!
2.5 D game next?
Edit: As an example "Diaries of a spaceport janitor"
NinjaSpotted that would be awesome.
NinjaSpotted yea 2.5 D would be awesome
There’s not really much difference. The game you reference isn’t 2.5D; It’s 3D.
2.5D is LittleBigPlanet and Shantae: Half Genie Hero, which are really just 2D games with 3D environments.
Isn't there assassin Creed games that are 2.5D? Did Xbox just give them a part of Games With Gold?
Yes please 2.5D
I would like to eventually develop a sci-fi sidescrolling shooter. What can I use for laser effects?

It's quite possible that, as a game dev, he chose to invest in a truly beefy pc
Really? it took like 20 sec for me. lol

i am using a new version of unity too, how do you make the animations?
Wulfric Cubing I’m on the newest right now. the tutorial worked fine for me, but the animation controller is just on the right screen automatically instead of you having to open it. it shows up in the hierarchy too when you need to open it again.
had this in my watch later list..... and 1 year later i am actually starting doing it now!in Unity 2019.1.fxxxxxx, lets see if as a Desktop Software Developer i will be scared to do this or actually find it funny and easy.....:P (update) damn that was easy...lets see the next video

The first one is more 2.5D since it has a 3D effect in 2 dimensions. :D
No man it's just a visual illusion, which does not affect the dimension the object is in.
im here in 2020 and thanks a lot for making this video, I want to be a coder when i grow up and i coant do it without this channel.
