Small town NEEDED my help RESTORING their most overgrown home

- I was contacted by a city council member of a small town near me. He said they have a few houses that could really use my help. So, I had him send me addresses so I could check them out. My wife and I drove about an hour to see them and decided they were bad enough for an SB Mowing transformation! So, I came back the next day to get started on the first one. The virginia creeper vine was completely taking over the front, making it look horrible for the neighbors. The edges were also getting really overgrown and there were tree limbs hanging over the sidewalk. I got all that cleaned up and the after result was amazing! The city was so thankful and I am so happy I was able to help them out.

Now the neighborhood should team together and maintain this. You did a huge favor for them, as well.
However, the owner is taking no responsibility. I have a problem with that. The property should be forced to be sold if abandoned.
The bank owns it, these properties are owned by banks and they could careless if it lowers your value it’s just a piece of many investments they own.
Why cant the city take care of it now that its all cleaned up and looking good. anyway im just an outsider so i dont know how it works over in the states, From Scotland 😉
@@jd4evapodcast86 Sadly you are correct. It is just a chunk of inventory they are trying to sell off. It isn't worth the cost of maintenance and upkeep to the bank. In Monopoly this would be Mediterranean and Baltic Avenue just past 'Go'....
Don’t most towns have their public works department mow it and add it to property taxes?
Shout out to that city councilman for realizing he needed a little help and reached out. 👍 Especially with smaller towns, the funds are just not there. Thanks to Spencer for stepping in. 👍
That city council just solved the problem with no cost. He/she will get bonuses while it was all done by hard work of SB Mowing. I hope SB will get some thank-you for his incredible work for community.
Funding may not be available, but what was to stop the Town Council or whatever it's called to ask for volunteers to help clean-up those properties? Geez Louise - it's not difficult to ask for help!
I mean that's almost literally what they did by contacting SB. It's a win for everyone involved and was a very smart move by the town.
This “small town” is a suburb of the largest city in Kansas. I’d expect them to have funds.
The property value just went up 20% after the trim!

you know what I like about this young man... he is demonstrating a strong work ethic.... he is not like other internet influencers who provide nothing but vapid interactions, but he shows others that through hard work, they can accomplish anything that they seek to achieve..... remarkable young man... love watching his videos, and I hope nothing but the best for him.....
People should never let their hedges get higher than the bottom of the windows. It’s a perfect cover for people to break in if they do. I warned a friend, who ignored my warning, and came home to discover someone had tried to break into her front windows in broad daylight.
Should call the council member back and tell him the city needs to fix that sewer drain and its cover. Plus, good job on avoiding the red Chevy parked in the way.
I would love to know how many of these houses are sold and given a second chance to become a home after the work you do! Would love to see a "What do they look like now" episode!

This went from a haunted house to an adorable bungalow! You did a wonderful job.
We have 2 indoor dogs but they do go outside to go to the toilet. Even with pee pads there is no way the inside of that house doesn’t reek of dog excrement and urine! Hopefully someone will be able to negotiate with the city or mortgage company to buy it on the very cheap and renovate the interior. Someone could have been living in it all this time, raising their family! It’s heartbreaking to see homes go neglected like this. Nobody wins!!!

Spencer, your decision to help out this town, was a great one. This transformation was like night and day. Trimming up the trees and removing the vines was needed very much. The neighbors are probably delighted to have that property looking nice and cared for.

Amazing transformation. I know the neighbors appreciate it , and I always hope that it will inspire the neighbors to pitch in and help keep it clean since they are the ones who have to look at it.
Sadly I wouldn't expect any neighbors to do anything to keep it mowed.

And you certainly haven gained yourself an amazing reputation that even other towns close to you have called in your expertise to help them, would not be surprised if other states starting calling you. The before and after pictures on this house are so dramatic! I especially loved how you trimmed up the trees along the street and tamed that hedge in the front. Fantastic job, as always. I can’t bear to hear about the animal abuse. Why in the world would someone do that to an animal? Ugh
They breed them and sell them on the black market. Horrible, just revolting abuse. You can go to jail for over 5 years if caught by animal authorities.
And why didn't anyone contact the authorities about it 😢

Plus you sadly sound like a person who can't understand why people consider their pets as members of the family instead of animals, kind of sad you don't understand or feel that kind of love.
It is amazing what cleaning up a yard can do for a house! Hopefully the neighborhood or city can maintain it and someone can purchase/rehab the house. It looks like a really nice neighborhood! Fantastic job Spencer!
it makes me so sad to see sellable homes sit empty. we have so many homes like this all over the nation. and the animal abuse just makes me tear up. ffs why? you did such an amazing job again Spencer, beautiful work and so giving of your time/effort. you're so awesome. :)
It’s probably not sellable which is why its sitting empty. No one probably wants to take on the Reno task. If it smells that bad in there all the floors and walls probably need to be ripped out and replaced….

If I was the neighbor living beside that house I would mow that grass to keep it nice. I trim things in my neighbors yards, it benefits everyone.
@@lorenawhaley5284 i do the same for my 83 year old neighbor. She cannot do it anymore. I live on a cul de sac and all the neighbors take turns mowing the ‘island’ grassy area at the center.

What a huge difference. I bet the neighbors and neighborhood are so happy that the mess was cleaned up. After what the neighbor said about the dogs always being inside I would hate to see or smell it. Poor furbabies 😢
Why the bank hasn't auctioned off this house by now is amazing to me! This was once a cute, mid-century home with a rock fireplace and a great neighborhood. And it could be again! All your hard work just may be the catalyst for turning this poor house back into a home!
Given the history of dogs running wild in the house, there's probably little to no interest from potential buyers/flippers. And it didn't look like there was any back yard at all, not a property with a lot of upside potential.
It's probably been condemned.

Where I live, it is the city's responsibility to keep up the public sidewalks and boulevards. Most homeowners/tenants will do it on their own, though, which is nice. Another great job!

Might I say how wonderful it is to hear about any member of any part of our government, at any level, who is willing to cut through the c*** and just get something done for the good of their community. No red or blue, just insight and pragmatism. Thank you to that city councilman. If we ever get out of the mess we're in, it will more than likely come from local actions like this, and from volunteerism of all kinds, including Spencer. :)
Would have been GREAT if the City Council member had found a way to pay the man. Where are the tax dollars going?

That is, a really nice corner property! The house has a quaint but modern look utilizing brick, rock, and siding. It is a fixer-upper for sure! I would gut the inside, let it air out, and then return it to its former glory.

On the outside it looks great except for the one corner drain the city needs to work on/ repair/ unclog! I bet the inside needs a complete gut! I hope those people were fined served some jail time and also community work. I hope the judge threw the book at them!

I actually quite liked the plants which were growing on the outside of the house, made it look way better
