- A small city outside of Wichita, KS had this vacant home that was making their neighborhood look awful. One of the city councilman reached out to me and asked if I could help clean it up. So, I went to check it out and it was one of the most overgrown homes I've seen in a while. I spent the entire day transforming it and the result was amazing. The neighbors were pleased at the result and I was so happy I could help out!

Maybe the city did pay him for the jobs. I probably wouldn't mention it neither if I were in his place, (I mean that they paid him).

I don't think the city can randomly compensate like that without it being an approved budget. If that was the case, it could so easily be abused, with payments to random family members for services rendered.
City would probably have to put it out to bidding for the work to be done.

Oh my gosh Spencer! This is the kind of transformation that would cause a neighbor to do a double take and ask, "Has that house always been there?"
Spencer, I have to thank you. Three years ago, I was partially paralyzed. I had to relearn how to walk with a lot of hard work. Last year, I was able to start mowing my lawn. This year, YOU inspired me to get the edger out. I wasn't able to finish but I got a good bit done. In a couple of days I'll get after it again. Thank you for all you do.
When I reached my 70’s I started mowing and trimming the front yard one day and the backyard the next. It’s hot and humid in the Midwest and that’s the only way I could get it done. Hats off to Spencer, all that clearing!!

That house is obviously the original farmstead. It was probably beautiful not so many years ago. Thanks for letting it be seen again.
Boy that was a big job. It amazes me that the neighbors let their sidewalks grow over too. Hopefully by your makeover, they will be motivated to uncover their sidewalks as well. Stay safe and God bless.
The sidewalks they could've at least helped trim down even if they didn't go to the extent that Spencer went to. I mean the yard work isn't their responsibility. But should've helped cleaer the sidwalks so they could walk on them.
I think there might not even BE sidewalk into the yard of the house with the birdbath out front.
Tough to tell for sure from the camera angles though.
My Friday morning fix! Love your videos, but now every time I drive through a community and see an overgrown yard I think, “Spencer would love this one.” 😉

Yes I do the same thing but I want to go buy a mower and equipment to help people out like that but I'm not sure if I do like Spencer can do that because of my back and legs would not even last an hour.

You did more for this little piece of property than the city ever did. This old home was once someone’s pride and was cared for. I don’t know the situation that caused them to leave, but thank you for once again giving it dignity before the city does what it has to do.

@Bunty Morrison except fixing crappy yards & filming it for YT is what spencer does. the city basically gave him cart blanch to mow, film & make money. plus the city saves tax $$.
Surprising it's that they did not recive any money from any platform, it's easy to say I do it for free when I earn thousands on UA-cam etc.
@Bunty Morrison i use it more as white noise, i find it quite relaxing. yea, it can be repetative, but i like to see crappy yards so mine looks good.

sadly that is life. look every home has been destroyed or abandoned. if there is no one to pass it on to then it gets left to rot.

An awesome transformation, Spencer! It would be great if a local high school or college could take on this house as a restoration project while learning skilled trades. Then maybe a deserving family can call it home.
Here in great falls Montana we have a program called high school house. Each school builds a house from the foundation up. Kids get skills and neighborhood housing finds a new family to buy it.

I think it's great that the city reached out. I've always thought UA-cam lawn guys would have lots of yards if Code Enforcement would provide you with addresses.
You do such a thorough job. Neighbors have GOT to be relieved. Weird sidewalk...wonder if the neighbors' walks are also grass

This was once a lovely home and I am sure the owners enjoyed many years of happiness as is evident by the back yard trees that were ;planted. Thank you for restoring this somewhat, Spencer. As always you do a wonderful job. Thank you.
I'm torn between giving the councilman a mouthful for not taking care of this themselves and you making a video of it and do an amazing work like usual.
They could either hire a contractor to clean it up and put a lien on the property or have him do it "for free" and post it to YT. Which is a better outcome?

@@lylecoglianese1645 When you Americans say "check", you don't mean a literal check do you? ie a piece of paper that you take to the bank. I hear Americans say "check" all the time, but I'm hoping it's just a colloquial way of saying "payment". Checks are so 1990s. At least they are here in Australia.
@@lylecoglianese1645 Cash! No, I don't use that either. But many of my payments are made by bank transfer which doesn't cost anyone anything here. Otherwise, many people do use Visa/Mastercard in most stores and of course, online. But there are others who do still use cash (but it's declining).
I haven't "written a check" (or "cheque" as it's spelled here) since about 2005. And I haven't used cash since before COVID.
And this might surprise you: in my 36 years of my working life, I've never received a check for my pay. It's always gone straight into my bank account.
It's interesting that the check has continued to be used over there. Next you're going to tell me you still use a DVD player and read a newspaper 😂.

That house doesn't need to be torn down. It needs to be adopted and taken care of. It looks solid. Great job as always Spencer.
Being that over grown it probably has mold and needs to be at minimum gutted to the studs

@@jeninmontana The cats need to be cared for, they didn't ask to be living there. Some horrible human abandoned them and did not have them fixed. Human fault not animal fault!! Be kind!
It's not the fact it was overgrown but the cement and sidewalk work is all cracked up, foundation is likely damaged, mold and more from years of neglect. It would be cheaper and more beneficial to bulldoze it and start with a new build with all the work it'd be to repair.
I’m inclined to agree with you except for the cracks visible in the foundation (seen at the end of the vid). If those are wide enough, could there could be some major repairs needed? Wonder if it would be cost-prohibitive?

I watch several mowing services, but you were the first. I must say I’m disappointed in many of them that I watch because they just don’t come up to the quality of your work. You have a respect for peoples property, even if no one’s living there. Some of them just go in and cut everything down… Grass, bushes, flowers, mow down whole flowerbeds full of plants (not weeds) with weed eaters. I guess they either think it looks good on UA-cam or they can’t be bothered to be selective. You respect the properties you work on and the neighborhoods that you work in, and don’t do any of that slash and dash yardwork that so many of the others do. It makes your videos much more enjoyable to watch. It’s probably why you have so many subscribers. Thanks for the job you do and for giving us something decent to watch!

The sad thing is all the houses in that community are of the same age. It would do this community a great service if somebody would come in and fix up the house and sell it.
I hate seeing an area with old homes with a modern one in the middle. Looks ridiculous. That and modern homes are ugly. Hopefully whoever gets the lot makes the new home one that fits in
