Instead of a compelling downfall, they made Aegon start at rock bottom. In my opinion, they should've made him start off as someone pathetic but harmless. Like just have him be an alcoholic womanizer who doesn't take anything seriously, but at the end of the Dance, like most of the characters, he's a monster.
No, whitewashing Alicent and Aemond doesn't excuse turning Aegon into a villain because the Greens aren't trying to put Alicent or Aemond on the top of the food chain. Their figurehead is Aegon, a rapist who enjoys watching little kids fight to the death, therefore it doesn't matter how much they whitewash or dumbwash his supporters, all of them will remain the villains of the story simply because they choosed to support an evil leader. This is why the writers whitewashed the figurehead of the Blacks (Rhaenyra) and turned Daemon into the devil on her shoulder who does the dirty work so the audience can put the blame on him and still support his leader. I don't know why people often fail to realize that how much the characterization of a single character can change the meaning of an entire story, especially a character as important as Aegon, the protagonist's main rival.

Sadly the show its pretty biased towards TB characters, most of them got a good introduction but with Aegon they went straight up with his flaws, clearly so the audience hate him at first so i get tom's pov, for me the promotion of 'choose a side' isn't fair because the story they already put in S1 doesn't favor TG at all.

I love Daemon and I am Green but as a character not as a person and Aegon too, the same, for me they both are the best two characters of House of the Dragon for their complexity but yeah i am Green.

To be honest, my logic is simple: the greens are complex, funny, interesting and dysfuncional. I simply find them more interesting, and the actors better (no that tb actors are bad), and the aesthetics cooler etc etc.

I am team enjoying everyone however i find the greens more compelling, more interesting and more entertaining. They are so much more complex than the blacks who seem to be like the protagonists, who are justified in every good or bad thing they do. However that's not how the world of fire and blood is like. Both factions and i'd argue the greens having more good reasons to be on the iron throne. I am not on any team but the writers should stop white washing Rhaenyra and start being real.

Welcome to our little green family. 💚 I used to be completely neutral when I watched the show, but then I was bullied by some toxic team black fanatics for simply liking Alicent over Rhaenyra and Aemond over Daemon, I just find them more interesting characters. Some people in this fandom are so toxic, and I said to myself you know what? Fuck that, I'm embracing team green, baby. It's also quite annoying how most of the fandom doesn't seem to understand that Westeros is a medieval fantasy world with male primogeniture laws, and they project our modern real world standards onto Westeros, which is ridiculous.
Same here, i noticed that if you have any different opinion or point out a flaw from a tb character you get attacked, sad that the majority of the fandom isn't open to have conversations about this story, i also find interesting the characters from TG.

The first time I watched the show, I had a lot of prejudice from the book and so immediately placed all of that onto Alicent and disliked her and I liked rhaenyra more but the more the show went on I just had this feeling and I watched the season for a second time, and I was really surprised about how much she annoyed me and how so many of her problems were self brought on and just how really thoughtless she was in regards to her children and the realm as a whole. People act like I actually care about Rhaenyras sons being bastards or not and that’s not the issue. The issue is that unfortunately it is against the rules & yes, some rules were made to be broken but I feel as a ruler, Rhaenyra should’ve put the welfare of the realm first, even if that meant stepping down and handing it over to one of her brothers especially if she couldn’t have legit heirs and she creates these challenges to her succession with the lack of foresight, and she lives as she pleases, as if there’s no consequences when any other woman, alicent included would never get away with the things she gets away with and not every woman has the privilege and luxury of being the kings favorite daughter, or a dragon rider. It’s said a lot, but rhaenyra does not want to change the rules. She wants to be the exception to the rule and she wants her children to be the exceptions. From a modern standpoint she isn’t bad at all, and you could heavily sympathize with her which is why she does get a lot of sympathy in the fandom, but in the context of the story, she’s very selfish, and she put her own personal happiness first even at the cost of her children in a way because of the stigma that they will have to face from society. What would rhaenyra know of being a bastard, yet she puts that burden on their shoulders. As with many Targaryen‘s, they think being a dragon rider makes them the exception to the rules not realizing they can’t be on dragon back 24/7 and ruling with fire and blood alone is not sustainable. It will not change something that’s thousands of years in the making and ingrained into peoples beliefs systems. Partly, I blame Daemon. He taught her to take what she wanted and do what she wanted, but he told her that from a man’s perspective and rhaenyra no matter how much she may want the privileges, is not a man and nor will society treat her like one no matter what viserys says. In a way she even did what her father did, her father had a second marriage with children with stronger legal claims. She had a second marriage with children that have stronger legal claims and even names one of them aegon just like her father did, and luckily her children love each other but every mother thinks their children will love each other when they have them but they don’t know for sure, and she doesn’t know for sure what will happen when all of her children are grown or if aegon and Viserys would come to resent their older bastard brothers. So the issue of targaryen inheritance can be debated somewhat even though I do think rhaenyra and her children should have been taken out of the line of succession instead of living this lie that will eventually go on to create a Civil War, but the Velaryon issue is pretty cut and dry from a logical standpoint. Corlys destroyed his house trying to get closer and closer to the Targaryen‘s and that throne. He should’ve just been happy with his children being Dragon riders and worried about his house instead of trying to get power and his name in the history books and to me he’s just as bad as Otto, both in book canon and show canon with his ambition. Daemon is one of my favorite characters and by far my favorite character on team black and I see him as such a multi faceted complex character with a lot of writing potential but at the same time, he personifies fire and blood, “fire can only destroy not build”. I think rhaenyra is the truest love he’s ever had in terms of all of his personal relationships but even she can’t keep a complete hold on him. I think the parallels between him and aemond are really interesting, both of them second sons and warriors, the greatest strength on each side of their faction, both claimed dragons instead of having an egg hatch. That relationship would be really interesting if they made daemon get over his hightower prejudice. Daemon has always come off as being a blood purist to me so it’s interesting that so many people think he would just embrace rhaenyras first three children for sentimental reasons, and not a power move and yet looks at his other niece and nephews as “half breeds”. You could say that it’s because of his hatred for otto but honestly, I think no matter who Viserys had more children with, I think Daemon would have looked at them as less then. I honestly don’t see him being that close with Rhaenyras older two children, maybe more with Joffrey because Joffrey was just a baby when harwin and Laenor died, and so there’s no competition or resentments that the older children would have and surely Jace and Luke see rhaenyra having these kids with Daemon and how happy she is. Happiness that she never had obviously with laenor and wasn’t allowed to show with harwin, and they know deep inside that their mother wishes despite her love for them, this is the life that she should’ve had. These are the children she should’ve had from the beginning and it should’ve been this way from the start, and if she could redo her life over, that’s what she probably would do and all of her children would be dameons and I imagine that creates some interesting psychology. The perfect, silver haired, valyrian children, trueborn in the eyes of the realm, born from two dragon riders, and then they are the product of an illicit affair deemed sinful, looking more in place with the common people than the royal family. I think the love they all have for each other as siblings over powers that, but it’s always brushed over which is unrealistic to me because in the original Game of Thrones series, even Robb and Jon, there’s this tension and undercurrent underneath all of the love they feel for each other as brothers because of the bastard dynamic.

Now I'm team green, I don't know but I just foud the greens more interesting and chaotic and their character complexities makes me drawn to them.

Rt comes with to much baggage as an heir while Aegon faults are not publicly known and lets be honest Aegon will be doing what he and Rhaenyra was doing for the last 6 years lets Otto, Alicent, and the rest of the council do the work lol
I would still choose Aegon because he can be manipulated by his competent counselors. Rhaenryra had the chance to build alliances but instead had to rely on her father to protect her from all the mistakes SHE made.
I choose the side that will not destabilize the realm and that will respect the traditions and culture of westeros.....granted my choice would be Rhaenys over the horrible two choices of Aegon and Rhaenyra.

The trailer gives us vibes of Daemon betraying her but I don't think it will ever happen since in my opinion he loves Rhae more than he loved his brother and he never betrayed him. But I'm pretty sure that Daemon's chaotic and restless nature will drop a bomb between them because that's what Rhae left behind after the 10 year old time jump...

I’ll tell you my interpretation of season 1. I don’t think it’s fair to say that Alicent brainwashed her children into not liking rhaenyras sons. Theres a natural tension created all on their own. Aegon is flippant and cavalier, as a way of brushing off his father not caring about him and it doesn’t really affect him (it does). He thinks that no one cares about him or expects great things out of him anyway or else he would be the heir like every other son in the realm so why even try? “Let’s give them the worst version of myself” He’s the eldest in the group, he’s valyrian looking, he’s the son of the king and a dragon rider so naturally Rhaenyras sons fall under his influence and out of all the targaryens, the only one who doesn’t have a dragon is Viserys, weak & rotting. Basically everything that a young boy would not want to be seen as. Aemond is currently the only one of the boys without a dragon at this point and all of the boys independent of Alicents influence naturally start ostracizing him because of this reason. Aemond in an effort to overcompensate for aegons deficiencies becomes dutiful and studious and everything their mother wishes aegon would be so aegon has this advantage over Aemond in this one way only and capitalizes on it probably constantly and the younger boys follow along. Aegon is the architect of the teasing and the bullying but to aemond who would naturally be ingrained with a sense of loyalty to his older brother is going to obviously put the blame on the obvious bastards. To Aemond their very existence is an insult to house Targaryen, and shows just how weak their father is by allowing them all the privileges of if they were true born. While I obviously don’t agree with it, Westeros is a heavily religious continent and prejudice against bastards is going to be ingrained in society with everyone not just Alicent and Aemond is going to see these bastard boys given these high positions, set to inherit the iron throne and driftmark, they have not one but two father figures and their mother feels much more comfortable in their existence so she’s able to have the privilege to be loving to them and naturally build resentment towards them. Losing his eye to luke and seeing his father care more about the insults to rhaenyra than his mutilation only cements these feelings. Alicent is always scared that her children will be killed so she doesn’t invest in them emotionally to the same degree and like her father, expects them to do their duties with a stiff upper lip. Otto is ambitious as they come, but he was around when viserys was picked over a much more competent Rhaenys and despite his ambition, I truly do believe he thinks it’s for the better of the realm that a male heir succeed, because to completely do a culture change and have the firstborn child regardless of gender be the heir would be a massive change for Westeros and change can bring chaos and inciting infighting amongst the noble families, so in a way he wasn’t wrong, and then on top of that rhaneyra has bastards which isn’t special but it is special to put them in the line of succession. Many lords have bastards but marriages in this world are for political alliances, so why would any Lord marry his daughter to another family knowing that that man may put his bastards in line over the children born to the marriage because the original point of bringing together two families for power doesnt stand in the face of an outside child. Not to mention the religious aspect of it. The nobility are the one that grumble about having a woman on the throne but the small folk don’t really care, they’ll make their comments, but they’re not going to riot to the point of hurting the targaryen‘s as long as they’re fed and there’s peace but something that small folk wouldn’t tolerate is a bastard on the throne, because all they have in their meager lives is religion, and that could become an issue later on down the road. So I don’t think that Alicent or Otto were blind or naïve. I think they were realistic. I think rhaenyra was the one that was naïve to believe that her ascension would be bloodless, and people were just follow it based on her father’s words alone. The small folk though, may have no decision other than to accept a bastard on the throne if all the other competition is out of the way, so Alicent and her sons are not delusional to think that may be a possibility. Rhaenyra spurned Alicent, despite knowing it wasn’t her choice to marry her father and she only reconciled with her in episode three on her own terms. It was never a friendship of equality and mutual trust, If it ever was. The fandom thinks that Alicent needs to be rhaenyras pawn and put her interest above even her own children to be seen as worthy. Alicent tries frequently in the episode to protect rhaenyra and rhaneyra throws it back at her face. She even lies on her dead mothers grave to save her own skin. When Alicent realizes the lie, she comes to understand that the person she once loved the most, she can no longer trust. Add 10 years of resentment of watching Rhaenyra live how she wanted with harwin while Viserys rotting body crawled on top of her over and over again, putting children in her, the most natural of resentments would form. Then you also look at the fact that Rhaenyra and Daemon hatch this plot to make it look like laenor was killed “ they’ll fear what else we may be capable of” they counted on the fact the alicent would think that they were capable of murdering their own kin and Alicent does, because why would she think that they had just let laenor go? At this point in Alicents mind, Rhaenyras certainly doesn’t trust her. She doesn’t trust rhaneyra and rhaenyra has proven herself to be a liar, and willing to bend the rules to make herself the exception, and also willing to murder her husband only weeks after his own sister’s death to marry Daemon, who has certainly shown no love for Alicent or her sons. Her paranoia is valid. I think this is a natural set up of consequences that all stem from one place. I don’t think this is just a simple case of “brainwashing” like a lot of the fandom likes to accuse Alicent of.
As you already see in the comments it sadly won't be civil :) Some people are just too dumb to realize its just a show and everyone can have it's own opinion and cheer for whoever they want. Telling them my fav character is aegon is the best you can do in the community

The team green characters are so much more complicated and interesting. I could write an essay about each of Alicent's children but I would struggle to come up with a full sentence to describe any of Rhaenyra's children.
Rhaenyra was really flawed in the book and it made her a memorable character but the show has removed all her flaws and made her too good and noble and selfless, it makes her boring.

I love Alicent so much but I'll still stick with Rhaenyra's side of the story. I get Alicent's motives and ethics but still. No matter whose are the kids of Rhaenyra she's the one Vicerys wanted her as an heir, there was an official ceremony. Her kids are still her kids so claiming they're bastards? I don't get it. It's still the future's queens kids so... I don't get that.
And fighting for a woman's right to rule the kingdom, I'm all in. Daemon is not a great figure and he'll do some awful things in the future but it doesn't help that Alicent has 2 meh sons, a despicable father and the person I hate the most. Sir Criston despicable Cole.
In Westeros, the nobles don't have the right to choose whoever they want as their heirs. If they really had this sort of power, Randyll Tarly didn't have to make sure to disannul Sam's entire claim first (by sending him to the Night's Watch) before declaring Dickon as his heir. Or King Aegon the Unworthy could have just moved his tongue, and remove the son he hated (Daeron ll) from the line of succession. Westeros is a feudal monarchy, not an absolute monarchy, so disregarding the laws of the Andals and the First Men, as well as the precedent of the Great Council, is not within Viserys' authority. A King CAN turn his ideas and desires into law if he actually makes the effort, but Viserys didn't codify anything to deal with a situation in which a King has a son but wants his daughter as his heir. He just forced some Lords into swearing some oaths that died with them (he didn't even bother to make them repeat their oaths after Aegon was born.)
Rhaenyra has a dangerous disregard for duty, and she does not have any wisdom when it comes to making decisions:
1- She was named heir specifically to avoid Daemon getting near the throne (this is acknowledged by everyone, including Viserys.) Despite this being the cause of why she was named heir, what did she do? Married Daemon and had children with him. In marrying Daemon, she's willingly placing a dangerously chaotic individual in a very high position of power. Someone who has notions of supremacy, and does whatever he wants whenever he wants. This is something that would be bad for the realm at large, but because she thought that it was convenient for her to do it, she does it without regard for the wider implications. So no, despite what the show told you, Rhaenyra didn't need to marry Daemon in order to strengthen her claim. She actually needed to the opposite and stay away from him.
2- She was given the opportunity to choose her husband, a luxury that 99% of Westerosi women don't have, but what did she do instead? Humiliated Lady Redwyne (she became the Greens' ally), talked behind Jason Lannister's back (he became the Greens' ally), thrown temper tantrums and then disappeared into the woods for hours. Not to mention, Harwin Strong was among her suitors. She could have married him and save him, herself and their children from the accusations of treason, unchastity and bastardy, but she didn't because she wanted to fool around first. The ironic part is that by making out with Daemon in a brothel (where everyone saw her), she unintentionally forced Viserys to marry her off to a gay man because her virginity came into question.
3- Her claim to the throne was already tenuous, yet she has not one, not two, but three OBVIOUS bastards. Since Rhaenyra likes to throw around the word "treason" herself, people don't tend to realise that it is she herself that is actively committing treason. In trying to pass off her bastards as legitimate children and putting them in the line of succession, she's essentially defrauding the crown and House Velaryon (having bastards is not a crime in itself, but lying about their legitimacy is.) Not to mention, this also ensures that if there wasn't a civil war to contest her ascension, there definitely would be one to contest Jace's. Meaning there is no hope of her reign having a peaceful transition of power after she's gone. And if there is one thing that all rulers must ensure, it's a peaceful transition of power. You need to ensure there is a kingdom left to pass on (in other words, don't screw everything up badly) and that your heir is well-suited to assume responsibility when the time comes (in other words, produce heirs that will be accepted by the realm at large.) Also, imagine how unfair it would be to the women of Westeros if a child that wasn’t even theirs inherited everything they spent their married life supporting. If Jon was older than Robb, Catelyn would have never agreed to marry Ned because why would she spend her life in a foreign land, help her husband run his castle, and give birth to his legitimate children only for someone else’s child to inherit all of his properties?
4- Speaking of the transition of power, she also does nothing to ease the transition of power from Viserys to herself. When Viserys' health grew worse, a smart and dutiful heir would have had him take a backseat and assign herself greater authority to begin ruling in his name. If Viserys can do away with centuries of tradition to name her heir, then presumably he could easily have her seen as his voice in court and acting on his behalf. Yet after marrying Daemon (an already established political blunder), she runs off to Dragonstone for years, and leaves the ruling of the realm to the Greens, her political rivals. All those years since being named heir, Rhaenyra did nothing to foster relationships with other Houses and Lords. She was not touring the realm, hosting diplomatic dinners on Dragonstone, arranging marriage alliances, etc.
5- Sending Rhaenys to Storm's End as an envoy would have been a good idea since she's wiser and actually related to the Baratheons. Instead, she decided to send her inexperienced bastard who obviously had no connection to Lord Borros. Next, she sent Luke without any sort of bargaining chips. She had him, a person who should be able to offer terms, deliver a simple raven's message (she had THREE unbetrothed sons to offer.) I get it, the dragons were faster, but in person delivery requires more (Otto Hightower offered Rhaenyra FIVE ROYAL POSITIONS when he came to Dragonstone to convince her to accept Aegon as her king.)
As a ruler, you will make some people happy and some angry. Those grievances don't just go away. One day someone will start getting ideas if there are alternatives with strong claims to the throne. Even if the Greens themselves didn't agree to rebel against Rhaenyra and/or her heirs, people were still able to use them as their figureheads and start a rebellion in their names. For example: Lady Jane Grey never wanted the crown, so she willingly gave up her position as the Queen of England, but people STILL decided to start a war in her name, so Mary Tudor felt that she had no other choice but to execute her. Rhaenyra will constantly be curious about what her brothers, their children, and their potential supporters are up to, and a paranoid ruler is a dangerous person. Not to mention, if the Greens' claims are a threat to her, they are 10x more of a threat to her successor (because Jace is a bastard AND his claim emanates from the female line), so even if she isn’t forced to kill them to secure her own reign, she would definitely feel the pressure on behalf of her son. And when choosing between her own children and the children of Alicent, we all know who she would choose. No, Jace and Helaena's marriage wouldn't have erased her brothers' claims to the throne. It also wouldn't have stopped Jaehaerys, Maelor, Aegon III, Viserys II, and/or their offsprings from rebelling against Jace and/or his offsprings. So you see, the Greens were fighting for their lives the whole time. The Blacks, on the other hand, were fighting for nothing but more power. That's why the writers added the White Hart and the PTWP prophecies to make Rhaenyra seem like the "chosen one", whitewashed the shit out of her character, butchered Aegon's character (her rival claimant), and turned the Green Council into an awkward joke.
Rhaenyra was also ignored by Viserys for first 14 years of her life yet you don’t see her rape people do you? Rhaenyra was also mentally abused for 10 years by Alicent among other things. She had also lost her father, daughter and now her son Lucerys but that’s not depressing enough for you huh 🙄
Also her son’s are Targaryen just like her and they were well respected by the lords of the realm except for the greens and Baratheons and Lannisters. Bastards or not, she is the rightful heir who got usurped because of her gender. The writer of the book had other version written where she has children with her husband or no children at all in which she still gets usurped.

She literally assaulted Criston in ep 4. He tried to leave only for her to block his way and then kiss him. He had no allies at court except her. She was in a position of absolute power over him as a princess and "heir to the throne", all he had at that moment was given to him by her when she chose him as a Kingsguard on a whim. His consent at the time was dubious at best. Rhaenyra is a slave to her own pleasures and self indulgences and is not that different from Aegon II if you analyse their characters. The difference is only one is presented in a positive light to the audience while the other is not.
