I don’t think it’s insecurity. I think there’s a very clear parallel set up. Both Alicent and Rhaenerya hesitated. Both Daemon and Aemond see that as weak. Both sides are cracking internally.

Disrespecting the vfx team of RoP because of your feelings for the story is wild. RoP may even have better vfx than HotD and you can't just call it money when marvel exists.

Ya the LOTR show just feels so generic. Sure, it's source material set the groundwork for fantasy in the past. But the microwave was pretty impressive back in the day too. It exists just because money. It has nothing to say and doesnt stand for anything. The cinematography, sets, armor etc are all so generic looking too.

I watched the first season of HOTD didn’t mind it but wasn’t blown away. It had the usually HBO darkness loads swearing way too violent and the usual overt sex scenes. I just couldn’t remember most of the names of the children or the dragons to be honest as it felt a bit been there done that.

I don't think Daemon's problem is feeling emasculated simply because his wife is going to be on the throne and he feels "less" as a husband. The friction we've seen so far seems to be from Rhaenyra's brief change of heart on the conflict completely going against everything Daemon thought they were planning to do and what Rhaenyra originally asked Daemon to marry her for. Outside of that , maybe I'm forgetting something from Season 1 but I can't remember anything else indicating he was uncomfortable simply because his wife, a woman, was going to be queen. I just saw alot contrary to that with him defending and protecting Rhaenyra and her sons (Luke and Jace) who aren't even his own blood and before that he showed that he truly had love for his brother Viserys and defended him as well.
Also this kind of framing of Daemon as kinda like an incompetent caveman is kind of confusing as well based on what we saw in Season 1. Everything from him winning the step stones by risking his own life to protecting Luke and Jace as if they were his own to defending his brother in his absence to figuring out the hightowers were drugging Viserys to helping Rhaenyra plan Laenor's escape to tending to all the dragons on dragonstone to strengthen Rhaenyra's cause all show his constant competence and effort to help his brother or wife. Is Daemon perfect ? Heck no. Did he do some other horrible things ? Yes but I don't remember things that clearly portrayed him as insecure simply off gender dynamics or being some type of incompetent effortless caveman. Maybe something happens in Season 2 that changes that but I don't remember seeing anything to clearly indicate that in season 1.
The freshest “wound” on him is also Rhaenyra’s reveal that Viserys told her the Song of Ice and Fire from Aegon’s dream. That both lessens his faith in her because of her belief in it, and the hurt that him never having heard of it before solidifies to him that Viserys never trusted him to be his heir.
Technically, George RR Martin still has the 2nd part of Fire & Blood to release that will wrap up the Targaryen history.
He shouldnt have told us that. Just drop them by surprise at this point. Dont let us anticipate.

I doubt he'll finish it in part 2 gourges plans with his books rarely ever go as he planned he originally wanted asoiaf to be a trilogy and it Sure isn't one now , I think it's going to be 3 books instead of 2 .

Annatar did not present himself as an elf in Eregion, he presented himself as a Maia. Which makes sense, and would make the Sindar population well predisposed considering their experience with Melian, and would make the Noldor happy to have a real teacher of the arts that promised them exactly what they most desired: the means to presserve the magic in the lands of Middle Earth, which was noticeably fading already then. Nobody would have believed that a random newcomer elf would have that knowledge. Also the number of Maia is clearly unaccounted, there are such that just lingered in particular places of Middle Earth out of Aman (such as Tom Bombadil, if we accept the most plausible theory of his nature).
Not that Amazon gives two rats' asses about what Tolkien wrote, or even coherence and plausibility, of course.

There is no such thing as the appearance of a Maia (or Vala). These beings were not physical and visible, the shapes they assumed were clothes and could be whatever their will desired. So there is no such thing as a standard Maiar form.
Balrogs and Wizards are both Maiar, however they are not similar in shape. They look different. The Maiar were ‘spirits’, but capable of self-incarnation, and could take ‘humane’ (especially Elvish) forms.

Don't you remember the dragon fight in Game of Thrones' Long Night? The fights would look like that but with more lights. Unfortunately, I don't think we are getting Smaug-level of dragon visuals. So when they animate the fights, it won't look as polished as the Hobbit dragon scenes. High budget for a tv show yes but low budget/mid budget for a movie.
@@rexibhazoboa7097 a lot happened since Game of Thrones in the CGI & effects department. And the dragon on dragon warfare described in the book is on another level.
The question is rather if they're able to realize the complex battle scenes that the book promises on screen. We'll see!

And just so you know Sauron over time has many faces he presents to the world at large. Appearing one way in one part and another in a different part is actually true to what he does (it just compressing the time he does it). Just as how his form can be destroyed. It does happen. It then takes time to to come back in corporal form. In Lord of the Rings of he hadn't already put so much of himself into the ring before he was defeated in the 2nd age, he would have reformed much, much faster.

I didn't enjoy RoP, and it still seems like while the visuals have improved slightly in terms of costuming, the colour palette is still seeming drained and one note. There's a lot of similar shades on characters and backgrounds in the shots, with only the shot of the Dwarfen ring really making use of a strong contrast. HoTD however is maintaining the excellent use of colour, of the heraldry, of the people against the buildings, contrasting the smallfolk and the nobles, it just seems more visually pleasing. And no, I'm not over the Numenor armour of RoP S1.
HotD has multiple questionable shots of dragons. Vhagar's skin in that whole funeral episode looked fuzzy for lack of a better word. Maybe they thought it wouldn't be visible in the ridiculously low lighting but it was. Plus while the takeoff and flight motion was great, the landing looked on the same level as a video game. Vhagar's face when he burned Laena also had a sort of fuzzy/blurry look to it. Vhagar did look great in the storm with Arrax. Caraxes has his bad moments as well. The beast beneath the boards scene could've been much better. Point is, there is a huge room for improvement and it does not maintain excellence all through.

Its basically GRRM’s fault. That man writes with such detail that even table settings are described in the books what more how dragons look. So yea HOTD really has to work within that

Season 2 will undoubtedly be better season one was following the mystery box formula Season 2 is not. The biggest flaw with season 1 was they had far too many mysteries that they had to handle.

I'm really excited for House of the Dragon, but I agree I think the RoP trailer persuaded me to get into this second season!

See I don't have any issue with adaptions not being faithful to the source material. Adaptions aren't required to. If I can like Disney animated classics and yet they are far removed from the original source material. If I can watch West Side Story which is an adaption of one of the most famous works of all time, Romeo and Juliet. If I can watch Clueless which is an adaption of Jane Austin's Emma it just shows how adaptions can be wildly different from source material and that not be a factor on if its quality or not.
Now most of the complaints I have seen about Rings of Power isn't reasonable, its this isn't Tolkien's work. But that applies to most works that are created directly from one source.
But you immediately did bring up my one real issue with Rings of Power. And that is its timeline. Rings of Power does the Game of Thrones timelines. In that one each storyline shown isn't necessarily being shown in chronological order next to the rest of the episodes it's in. 2, the bulk of pure traveling is shown with maybe a scene or skipping to another POV, thus giving the viewers the ability to imagine time passing.
Season one clearly takes months, but most of what we see is some individual days. Like we have one real scene of Galadriel sailing to the undying lands, yet that would have taken time. Same with her swimming, same with her rafting, same with her rescue, same with sailing back to middle earth. It's her stay in Numenor that is actually showing fairly accurate what is liking a week to two weeks time.
This applies as well to Elronds, story where we don't see his travels between places, except for one brief montage. This also applies to the travels of the Harfoots, though at the least the Harfoots actually gives us the best scene showing traveling over time with the traveling song, showing many different environments over the passage of time.
Now with the books, the time frame they are drawing on is easily over a thousand years. It would be very difficult for the casual audience to connect with a cast, that outside of the primary elves, would have to change all the time. Certainly only using 8 episode season would make it very difficult for the audience, let alone the writers to make engaging, rounded characters up in mass every single season, and basically only keeping 4 elves, Sauron and the Wizard, and replacing every single other character time and time again.
So because of this limitation, the show very likely is going to cut the vast amount of world building and empire growth and falls that does occur. Trying to limit growth that can occur in years and decades, not centuries. One thing that was wise is how the show literally from episode one, let part of the Mordor aspect of the story be preset up as actions already started by Morgoth. This is a massive yet fairly smart cheat.

Unless everyone associated with the show lied their faces off (plausible, it is AMZN after all), season 2 was already written and filming in late 2022, while season 1 was being released. With the S1 story backlash, they were stubborn in stating that S1 fan feedback wouldn’t have much of an impact to S2 since the ‘bread was already baked’ or some such. This means the “he was here the whole time” had been planned in some form from the jump

Partly cos I worry they don’t realise how much they missed the mark and also even if they did cos they wouldn’t want to display obvious weaknesses like that inviting “troubled desperate show” articles
I’m also a strong believer in writers being able to write themselves out of a lot of corners (which a lot of Hollywood doesn’t with how often they reboot at the smallest road bump lol).
I think they could salvage something good with the right scripting cos the Durin stuff was great and some scenes in the final two eps for the other plots were good so it’s not a total lost cause even tho I don’t think the show will ever average out as great just maybe good but very pretty
Plus they don’t need to worry about the audience remembering “all” that happened in s1 cos really while many things technically happen very little of note really happened until like the final two eps
Got no notes on HotD as I have faith and the trailer style didn’t give me much to latch onto individual scenes. I do wish they had ignored the original show’s depiction of the Iron Throne and gone for the insane book-accurate one cos adding a load of swords around it isn’t enough and I feel the rest of the world feels more realised than I did which went a bit too grounded and constrained (maybe Winterfell will feel bigger than a small town square now and an actual castle city)
Oh god, you reminded me of the dark ep. I hope that director isn’t back this season cos I won’t have access to the show in HDR this time around (and even then summer time was too bright and I had to watch that ep at 1 am with my room light off to see what was happening)
It's likely not a retcon since in the Silmarillion Sauron is a shapeshifter and this is just his elven form named "Annatar".

Its not a retcon, its literally what they were setting up. Main complaint, it takes till season 2 for the story to start. I have been saying for ages that Sauron was in the background the whole time, the mithranium subplot was a deceit of Sauron. The whole "alloy" thing was more an elven jewelsmith would never consider sullying such a precious metal with something inferior.
Its the setup though. Alloys are such an essential part of metal work/metallurgy, that Celebrimbor, supposedly a master craftsman with millennia of experience hasn't at least even heard of that process, much less think of it, seems impossible.
It comes across as too much of an ask for one's suspension of disbelief. Never mind that now theres no way he's gonna make the rest of the rings.

I don’t really don’t effing care what people can keep bashing about the rings of power when people have been pulling out the heights for it and demanding it for it to be canceled this season could give us our redemption and people are just so ignorant I’m giving rings of power over house of Dragon because because rings of power had but has better villains when their villains are want to bring darkness to the middle earth. The villains are related to the family squabble.
It’s strange to compare the masterpiece of the House of Dragons, the trailer for season 2 is stunning and to compare the unsuccessful and bad series Lord of the Rings, which I couldn’t even finish watching. For me, The Lords of the Rings was a very bad set in terms of the entire plot of the actors, but for that they spent a billion on this series and it turned out to be shit

I disagree that Rings of Power creates new images or new anything. It’s all regurgitation. House of the Dragon is something we haven’t seen before. The story is out so we know what happens and can say that it’s different from GOT. Rings of power doesn’t even feel like it has a story. It just feels like the diversity show.

Neither one is particularly interesting franchise, both are essentially flogged to death, in case of GoT it was just alot faster. House of Dragon I switched off when they had the time jump wasting 5 episodes as irrelevant and showing the main character was precisely the entitled bratty princess that none should root for leaving absolutely no interesting characters in there. Since you people are just keep bashing on rings of power, it would seemly highly unfair for ring lord of the rings fans to some who would like it. I’m gonna say it anyway rings of a masterpiece and I’m gonna say it House of Dragon sucks. It’s a complete failure as a failure as Game of Thrones ending.

I struggle trying to understand what clearly most people have problems with in shows and movies. For me personally. I see all shows and movies as stand-alone stories. Even one's in well-developed universes. People complaining about how this or that detail doesn't fit in some wider universe for whatever reason, I could personally not give even the slightest crap about it. Was it a good story with great visuals set in a universe I know some things about? Then all the better. Every movie, every TV series is it's OWN STORY.

Lord of the rings: so it isn't a retcon. Sauron is a Maiar. A lesser god to some extent. Gandalf is also a Maiar btw. So Sauron is not the fighter Morgoth was. Sauron is a deceiver and manipulator. He schemes more than anything else. He is also a craftsman. He was a maiar close to the valar Aulé the smith. But he is a schemer. In the books from what i remember he is a elf for most of it working his way into the throne rooms and council positions of powerfull kingdoms like Numenor. This is also the form he uses to deceive Celebrimbor into making the rings with him. This form is known as his "fair" form. Sauron is a manipulator more then anything.
House of the dragon: now before we start I am a green supporter but I'll try to be non biased if I do need to talk about the factions.
So the throne is "to big". Well actually it is still to small. In the books it is way larger than what is shown here. Does it look silly? Yes, yes it does. Is it cool as hell? Yes, yes it is. So the throne is actually toned down a lot.
"Framing the season about the two of them". I think he is referring to Aegon 2 and Rhaenyra. It was always meant to be about them. Alicent is a supporter of the greens not it's leader. That has always been Aegon. Now in the first season they don't do this because it is way better to force the conflict between Rhaenyra and Alicent. It starts off that way in the books to. But, it should now be Aegon taking the reigns instead of Otto, Aemond or Alicent. And Criston Cole should get closer to Aegon not Aemond as he will be named hand of the king and if I remember correctly, somewhat be angry with Almond when he decides on some risky tactics the further we get into the war. But it is Aegon who always was the main focus of the Greens.
If he is referring to Daemon and Rhaenyra, I got no clue what he was talking about.
Daemon not knowing how to wash dishes or anything because he was rich is a bit stupid. This man has been at war before. Been on campaigns and all of those things. Now true, he was still a prince there and had some better treatment, but i think he still does a lot of things himself.

HOTD is so f dynamic, epic and unpredictable so I’m fully rooting for it. Just love the way they chose to follow the book and it definitely pays off.
