The story being shown in HoD was heavily inspired by the Anarchy War. This should give you some perspective on how the show...might go...if they stick to the story. And on what story its trying to tell.
The Sea Snake's house is House Velaryon (not Blackfire) - and they are alive and well in game of thrones (they even appeared once or twice on screen as random guys if I remember right - they are under Stannis). What issue I have with them being black (they could have married out their race in 200 ish years I thinkand become so white they aren similar enough to the Dornish? ) is the fact that a racist society like Westeros accepted them when they still had issues, 200 years later in GOT with the Dornish that were mediteranean -ish. As opposed to Essos , Westeros is a tad more traditional and conservative ... and medieval - while this doesn't mean there couldn't have been diferent color people in Westeros, it is unlikely they would be able to do anything and keep their status (maybe that's why they are a small and irrelevant house in GOT ) due to the other lords being biased and racist - it's a real scandal later in the very books that house of the dragon is based on when a person from Essos, can't remember exactly what nationality they were, but white they were not, takes up a very important council position - maybe even hand of the king / queen ? ... so that is my issue with this. I do like half the actors they chose, especially the Sea Snake, it's just not a good representation for that world. and makes awkward timeline inconsistencies.
Wait what? lmao, Westeros was literally conquered and unified ("Seven Kingdoms") by a foreign entity (Valyrians, more specifically Targeryens but they had help from houses Velaryons and Celitgar). The Targeryens, as Kings of Westeros we're accepted and integrated into the society, keeping Andal traditions and imposing some of their own like their ability to marry siblings. Also, like the Targeryens, the Velaryons are not native to Westeros... how can their presence "not be a good representation for that world"? You do realise the Roman empire as an example, also encompassed Northern Africa? St. Moses Black, St. Athansius, St. Augustine and countless, we're Africans (not native to Europe) LONG prior to the medieval period (pre-400ad) that had cultural impact and within Europe and are still venerated today lol. You're imposing a rather modern liberal perspective of history on the show, as opposed to an actual historical take. Dourne is also quite literally part of Westeros...meaning Westeros isn't racially a monolith - theres no debating that. Culture is far more important than race interms of prejudice, you see examples of this within the show where people from the North are portrayed and seen as savages by others further down in places like the Westerlands/Crownlands. Dourne wasn't hated for their race, they we're hated for refusing to acquiesce to Targeryen rule when forming Kingdom which led to all the Dornish wars; As well as their style of fighting (Guerilla warfare), was seen as disingenuous/lacking honour.
I liked how it showed an entire kingdom will pretend to believe in something they obviously all know is a lie, just because admitting the lie would tear the kingdom apart (and cost them their lives). It made it more Orwellian.
@@frankvandorp9732In the book, its not so obvious as the kids are white with a dark haired grandmother. The whole plot around them and the rumours the hightowers spread is so much better done
@@frankvandorp9732 I get that take, but, in reality, vying powers would never have let the charade go on as long as it did. Themes and narratives are fine, but what made ASOIAF so great was the realism (and the expert writing) I still love the show (1 episode aside) but I do think it could have been improved had it stuck to the lore.
i enjoyed GoT, most of it. (and none of it after season 8 episode 3.) but...some of the evil shown was sooo unsettling that i have had a hard time motivating myself to watch it again, and for this reason i am little bit "meh" on house of the dragon. though...it does seem like they are trying more than rings of power, which i do have to respect.
When the rings of power trailer said an ancient powerful evil has returned or something we started laughing because of how it could be clipped and used and do they really think that way about their show? Aren't they over estimating the impact of the rings of power? It's not an ancient powerful evil it something for people to point at and laugh.

I don't think changing the Valaryons made the show better, it did make it more obvious to the audience, but it kinda made it a bit comedic.
Themes and narratives are fine, but what made ASOIAF so great was the realism (and the expert writing)
I still love the show (1 episode aside) but I do think it could have been improved had it stuck to the lore.
20:05 That's Daemon paying for Blood and Cheese.
Larys Strong is Littlefinger Otto is more Tywin
its rook rest not battle above the ghosts eye, that battle probably season 4
TEAM GREEN!
i enjoyed GoT, most of it.
No one in Dance of the Dragons is a Blackfyre.
The Blackfyres didn’t exist until about 100 years after the Dance of the Dragons.
It will be rooks rest not the godseye
Geralt of Syria...lmao
I’m sure one day I may watch this show if George ever releases another book but until then I just can’t support it.
As a big fan of the books there are some concerns
Really?
I mean.. it's a high budget telenovela.
God's eye will be in season 4, lol.
When the rings of power trailer said an ancient powerful evil has returned or something we started laughing because of how it could be clipped and used and do they really think that way about their show? Aren't they over estimating the impact of the rings of power? It's not an ancient powerful evil it something for people to point at and laugh.
See we just have different tolerances. You can accept 50% wokeness if there's 50% content. I on the other hand cannot take even 1% wokeness at this point.
I will never be watching this.
I swear HBO is just taking the piss on Amazon.
Hey shad big fan just wondering which homeless shelter you pulled that scraggly guy in red out of?
Honestly, I wasn't blown away by the trailer. I just think it's funny that they released it just an hour after the anti-Tolkian fake fan fiction.
it was more meant for the book readers. We notice a lot.
All the characters in Rings of Power you hate because they're terribly written. In House of the Dragon their is characters you LOVE to hate because they're well written, like Aegon.
Shad, please react to Elder Scrolls Online High Isle trailer. We need a breakdown of the Nameless Knight's fighting style! Pleasee...! 🥺
