  • This is a follow up to people that were asking questions on my first Durango ac clutch problem video. It requires basic wiring knowledge to source your wires and run them to an external relay. This saves you from replaces the PDC/fuse box. I’m not being super specific on this video because your model may have different wire colors. So this isn’t a diy, it just gives information on the process. Be sure to test that you have signal (ground) coming into the fuse box before doing this repair.
Smaller wire shown is signal for relay, larger gauge wire is load carrying directly to the clutch. Be sure to fuse the larger wire because doing this repair bypasses the factory fuse as well.
If you have a different problem and do this repair, you may second guess your repair and then you could be in a mess.

I understand you said you didnt want to explain how you wired it to the relay but ....mannn it would really help.
Because you said you wired the ground switch relay thats the part thats got me confused.
    The ground is 85
The switch is 87(on a four pin relay)
Did you connect the light blue orange wire to 85 or 86?
Did you put the light blue green wire on 87?
I knowll lil bit about relays but still learning.
Thanks for the vid. It really gave me confidence to try it

I’m not around that vehicle or a wiring diagram right now. But I believe the light blue / orange stripe is a grounding signal, it would go to 85. 87 would need an inline fuse added and then ran to the blue / green stripe wire. Both 30 and 86 would just be ran to the hot stud shown in the video. That’s for a 4 prong relay. Let me know if that helps

@Starwind_and_Hawking I truly appreciate you explaining it further! I tried and failed earlier. I'm trying to fix the wife's 2014 Jeep Grand cherokee 3.6 . The blue green wire on her truck is smaller than the one on your customers' Durango. This has led me to believe I had chosen the wrong wire or Chrysler decided to upgrade the gauge wire because of the issues with the board relay burning out

I have a 2015 durango that gives no air out my front vents would this method help fix that issue?

This is only for compressor engagement, it would not affect how much airflow or where air comes out of the dash.

I have a 2012 Durango that the clutch isn’t kicking on anymore, how would I be able to tell if it’s the clutch or the fuse box ?

My other video on this Durango shows how I checked to see that it needed the PDC replaced, go check that one out. This video just shows some info about bypassing the PDC, once it’s confirmed to be the issue and adding an external relay.
