His favorite singer (in addition to Aretha Franklin) was operatic soprano Montserrat Caballe, with whom he recorded the operatic album Barcelona in 1987... Freddie was the FIRST singer/musician to cross music genre lines from pop/rock to collaborate with someone in the opera music field. (At the time, Luciano Pavarotti said that Freddie & Montsie - that was her nickname - were "dumbing down" opera... Then just a couple/few years later, Pavarotti did his own team-up album w the pop/rock genre.😄) Montsie & Fred became the best of friends; they ADORED each other. After Fred had passed away, Montsie was approached by other singers/musicians to do other genre crossover collaborations... But she turned them all down, because she said it wouldn't be the same/as good an experience as what she had had w Freddie.💕
