I tried the 97 and loved it. The low swing weight just means the head flies through the air so far. I felt like I was wielding a scalpel on the court, but I wasn't lacking for power at all. This might just be a difference in swing type.

I bought the Percept 97. I like to take big swings just like at the batting cage so its a good fit. When I demoed rackets with more power I was hitting out consistently. Felt like I had to hold back on swings which wasn't as much fun.

This video sounds so much different from all the praises on the internet, which is a good thing.
In my experience, power and control do tend to contradict each other. And good control does not show when you hit deep inside your comfort zone. It is good to have when you are late, mispositioned or else - when your swing is off balance.
I had my time with thin beam 18/20 racquets. They were as heavy as a brick (which my arm started to complain about at some point) or vastly underpowered when I was on the stretch myself.
Now at the age of 49, I am back to 16/19, lighter setup than before. And I tend to hold back a bit to not overshoot the ball. But now I can pull off some surprising counter shots out of the corner of the court, because the power is there. But clearly at the cost of some control, the eychange is exactly 1:1.

I own the Percept 97 and it's horrible whenever I have to fall back because my feet are too slow like you mentioned - zero power. When I can get there, I love the racquet. When I can't, I hate it.

I'm returning after a long hiatus so many grains of salt, I demo'd the 100d alongside the ezone 98 and solinco whiteout 18x20 and I'd agree broadly. I will give it, it has great directional control. I could place balls left to right, but It just had no power, so I was having trouble getting depth. I liked returning , but baseline battles were rough, I had to really hammer it to give it enough depth, it just always felt like it just wasn't quite enough. If they gave it a touch more power, stiffen it just a bit in some way, it'd be great. but they didn't.

That being said, there's a lot of rackets I haven't tried that should in theory be good fits for me. (pure aero 98, vcore 98, pure strike 98, maybe even a radical mp or a blade) so maybe another round or two of demos is appropriate tbh.

It is interesting how the "classic" control lines remain despite more powerful and forgiving options exist. I would want to customize the 97 310g version to the 97D specs without the denser string pattern. I would want a compromise between the 310 and 330 gram versions. At this point of needing so much customization, I would pass on the 310 g version all together because the cost is too high now. At 279, customization costs is not worth it. I would pick a heavier option in the Percept line or go to Prostaff/Prestige. The 310g is just not worth it anymore at the higher price.

It's not the static weight of the D that is the deal-killer for most rec players: it's the mass distribution, swing weight, low power and string pattern, which come together to make a noticeably harder package to get moving and much lower launch angle and power level than most players realize. All in all, you really need to be a well-established athlete of a tennis player to get any real benefit from the D. And I'm not one to gate-keep a racquet by level, but the D is like the Blade Pro (H22), in that if you're not at least a physically strong 4.5, even 5.0, IMHO you really have no business playing with it... not when other substantially easier-to-use 18x20 pleeners are out there, such as the WhiteOut or Prince Tour 100P, both of which are just about as playable, with way fewer concessions for the typical 3.5 to 4.0-ish rec player. Mind you, this is coming from a 4.0-4.5 who's mainlined the VCP 97D for many months now, in addition to the 2019 Tour 100P, and it's absolutely no contest as to which is the more finely balanced racquet for most players (the 100P, hands down). So take that as you will, and I don't want to stop you from trying the D, but rather just want to set expectations more broadly.

Sometimes you need to know your limits. I don't wanna be rude but you don't have the playing skills to play with that type of racket, no full swing. A few gr. of lead and a lower tension make this racket a dream for the player of this type of racket.

    Hello Beckett.
Definitely a racket with a 97 rim, 310 grams of weight without strings and with a swingweight as ANEMIC as 315 with strings is ridiculous for many recreational players, obviously it is a platform racket but I think Yonex loses a good number of potential buyers with those specifications. I know there are also the 97D and 97H options, but it can be a disappointing experience for many. Greetings
