These folks are from Mountain Motorsports and Golden Snowmobile Rentals in golden. I rented a sled from them last year and they were awesome to deal with. They treated me very well.
Thanks buddy. Sweet videos. Very informative and fun to watch are you going to make more this year?
this is a great series, thanks for making these vids.
I think that's funny, I used to do this all the time. Now there showing videos on how to do it..lol
Thanks for putting this out there. I'm looking to upgrade from barely intermediate to full intermediate and beyond. What I didn't see from the start of the first donut was how you described turn right and leaning hard left into a left donut. Looking at the handlebar position relative to the bike, it looks like he never hardly gets out of straight forward steering. Are you saying that once you're in the turn you don't need to worry about ski position much (just keep the hard lean and firm throttle presence?
Love these videos. Ive been riding for years and my right-hand turns just never seem to get better. Any advice. Seems the say on dirtbikes, sleds and jet skis. Damn that push-pull movement
As long as your oil cap is on tight enough its all good. My bro put oil in and out in the mountains I tipped it right over a few times and opened the hood and there was oil in there. I thought I had a leak but the cap just wasn't on right. :)
Good advice 😁👍 thanks for the tips
Wow that's some terrain!
okay you counter steer to get the sled to tip over. then once its up on one ski you ride it like a bike. If you turn into the turn or bring the ski closer to the ground it will hook around and give you a sweet turn
So true sp true. My buddy was always like I can turn left better.
The sharper you want to donut, the harder you braap 'er, and magically you just get some good donuts and good braap eh?
I'm not really seeing the countersteer by the guy in the checkered helmet?? He is mostly leaning and turning his skis in the direction of the turn.
@Bgblu4X4 I'd say minimum of 18" of powder
Do you have the sway bar linkage removed to make it easier to get on edge?
Does anyone instead of both legs on each side have them both on one side ? Should I change to both one each side?
Let me get this strait: the less counter steer the tighter the turns or or vise versa?
could donuts be done with virtually any sled ? thankx !
doobyboy21 yes as long as it isn’t an ancient sled the isn’t meant for anything more than utility/ anything’s maybe 1985 and up, if you can carve than you can donut
@sledshot at 2:41 were r u
I can do it on any sled in any condition. Its really not hard just a little balance , counter steer and balance
the weighting of the sled has nothing to do with why people generally turn to the left, its the same on a motorcycle or in a car or off a diving board, it's just the way most people are more comfortable turning, stand up and try and do a 360, one way will feel goofy, and there you go.
@sledshot do you like those skis in riding tip donuts
hey im 13 and 120lbs and i ride a zr500 all stock, no riser block.. do you think i willl be able todo this
How deep of snow would you typically need for this??
Where was this filmed??
First time I tried I dumped it on its side, any tips, more throttle? And my dad was pissed to hahaha
@sledshot hey im 13, 120 and ride an all stock 1998 zr500, all stock..no riser block do you think i would be able to do this
Well not unless you have a a leak . The coolant is a closed system except for the over flow , gas is a closed system except in the carbs where they may get flooded my sled is fuel injection so no worries there. Brakes are cable no fluids there. So logical answer NO.
Nice
Great vids
Any idea why my sled bogs out really bad doing right side carves? It's completely fine doing left side carves though. It's a 2002 edge 800 rmk
Level head or looking down. Head and shoulders up. Body position and having the throttle hand in the deep snow might stifle your throttle modulation.
Check the breathers on your air box to your carbs! Mine did the same thing
I'm 14 years old and I ride a Polaris dragon 700! I was wondering how I can boondock easier cause I only way 100 pounds! Is there any tips you have for that?
TheKingfisher90 Put both feet in one side to get more weight into your turn. I had the same problem
Use more throttle when you go into the lean and then turn more
Patience was the trick for me as I had your same issue when I was 12 now I'm 15 6 feet tall and 150lbs now I can easily ride my 2006 Polaris 600 rmk and am decent with my dads 08 skidoo summit 800 163 so ya just wait and grow!!
Can you do this stuff just as easy with a summit 670x with the s2000 chassie?
kimzor No.
Which sled is those ski doos?
brp
Um, that won't work on my vertical edge ;)
the guy on the xp cant handle his sled....i cant boondock better on my hcr in half that pow and i only weight 125lbs and im not even that good at riding yet....but that guy on the rev has realy good control
im no expert but i guess if you stand with both of your feet on on side youre at least gonna get more weight on it
I've seen that on an incredibly steep bank and a guy ran it up 30 feet along the rim without going over the edge. Perfectly lined his skis along the inner topmost edge of the horseshoe bank. Amazing.
I'm always washing out :(
12-18" is good the deeper the better though ;)
That is the part I overlooked at first in this video. I've never been in that deep stuff before...and it's always been packed too. Presumably these tight turns are nearly impossible on packed surfaces then?
Actually not true. Most people put light weight cans on their sleds that lose 15 LBS. Hence the right side is 15 LBS lighter so it is easier to turn your left. Well it is for CATS anyways.,
Might be total body weight period. Heavier riders who can shift quickly from their seats seem to get better reactions if their throttle modulation stays smooth.
Are*
a foot will do
Wrong completely wrong. Since adding my can to my sled it is at least 15 LBS lighter on my right side. And 100 percent I agree that it is easier to turn left because of the weight. I can do doughnuts both ways but my sled is easier to turn on its side to the left. I actually tell my friends not to add a can because it fks your balance up. Any dealer with tell you this. Does it make a difference , not to me much, but a NOOBIE 100 percent .
Ur carving not donuts
