Depends how good you want to be. You'll for sure figure out what works for you doing it that way, but there's a correct way to do everything and you'll never be an advanced rider without having the basics down first.
The best machines for deep snow: twin-track Ski-doo Alpines. I’ve driven them on very deep snow (drifts 10’ - 30’ or more), and they handled them perfectly, never getting stuck. In contrast, today’s snowmobiles with vastly more horsepower and deep-lug tracks commonly get stuck and don’t offer the same laterally stable riding platform as Alpines, instead rocking left or right, resulting in a much less enjoyable experience. If you’ve never driven an Alpine, you don’t know what you’re missing!
The way I learned backcountry rideing was just messing around on out 300 luckily in Manitoba where i am we have some me hills and a decent amount of snow
Newer sleds have a more narrow ski width so its easier to get them on their side. In 1996 nearly everything was a trail sled and there was basically a wider is better mentality.
Why is avalanche education and safety not mentioned in this video? It makes sense to discuss these important skills, but are avalanche rescue/safety skills not as important?
I never rode a snowmobile off trail in the Mountains.. Referring to a 4 hour snowmobile rental in Whistler when my legs were like rubber from skiing a few days.. I just sat my ass on the seat.. That being said .. I spent 2 winters banging Moguls in CO 1 winters figuring out how to ski deep powder steep and deep and Extreme skiing.. at Alta Utah in 1983.. In 1983 they told me that Alta Snow was too light and too deep and snowmobiles just got stuck .. The first Mountain sleds were custom built and very expensive.. I am not sure when the Big 4 started selling Commercial Mountain sleds..
For my 52nd birthday , I'm buying my first snowmobile. I'm going for a fully loaded, luxury two seat with a sled to pull. Who makes the best luxurious fully loaded snowmobile, Polaris, Ski Doo, Yamaha, etc.?
yep the worst balance point ever, so hard to keep on an edge without steering mods. They don't have enough steering angle to keep the sled on its side.
how do you put the sled on its side???? i have a 1998 indy 500 and I can't get it on its side. I don't know if my sleds to heavy or if I'm doing something wrong. PLEASE REPLY
its because that chassis simply isn't made to do that, mostly because its a flat land sled. As far as Polaris chassis go, you really need to get to an IQ or above before your really can make it do things like that. Not impossible with your Indy, but it'll be a lot harder. And like one of the guys said in the video, you need someone that knows what they are doing to properly teach you the techniques.
i know i am a little bit late but first off you need to have a deacent amount of snow, then you just throttle hard to one directon and then turn ass fast as you can to the other direction to get the sled on it's side. i have done it with your exact sled model :)
No matter who's on a sled in the back contery ridding every one gets stuck. I wouldn't pay for a course like this. For me just hit it if I get stuck I get stuck trial and error.
Lol couple days of practice on that little hill isn't gonna prepare you for back country riding. Make sure your with experienced riders if your inexperienced
I disagree I have been riding snowmobiles since the 70s and I live in Minnesota I have no desire to ride in the mountains at all I ride ditches and swamps and trails mountain riding is for yuppies and story telling
I've been doing it wrong this whole time... I've been muscling the sled and to much throttle!! Thanks for the pointers!!
This was an awesome video ! More of these types of videos on Snowtrax tv would be so amazing !
I would like to take a course like this in a heartbeat.
when in doubt throttle out
And remember trees are for traction.
Remeber don’t ride a Arctic cuz cats climb trees
bullshit best way to learn something its jump on it and try until you succeed. From 80's kids and your welcome!!

Dad taught me same thing. Been helping for the past 17 years

You should maybe include a link to Amber's Sled skills school
Great video I love the sled's
The way I learned backcountry rideing was just messing around on out 300 luckily in Manitoba where i am we have some me hills and a decent amount of snow
I have a 1996 arcticcat 440 z and its hard to get on its side too but its much easyer in deep snow

I want to learn!!🙌🏼
learning in hard pack? do you think its harder or easier than if it was a little deeper?
DEVUNK88 way more difficult In hard pack
Rippin a 1991 phazer just hold it wide open the whole time and your miny
Mint
I have a 1991 phazer too, really havy snowmobiles, but fun tho
not so easy to get on the side!
@@mysticmac9103 phazers are about 300 pounds lol easiest sleds ever to get up on its side
@@cameronbarron nah new sleds are easier, I can just turn the bars while sitting and tip my sled over if i want ro
Whatever happened to Amber Holt ?
Where else is there to ride other than mountains? Isn’t that the only place there’s snow?
The dude on his 1991 phazer holdin her wide could teach the same "backcountry riding" this is lmfao
What snowmobile are those???
Jack Jeremy Böttger Revollar arctic cats

2 years after but, if you look closely they have a 1/4 inch of snow so if you get in an avalanche just stand up
Just a joke it should be in the vid
Love how you are using some of the lightest sleds on the market. Try an apex.
Darrren Betker tf would you want to mountain ride on an apex
Y? Very few people want or own one
Is she still doing classes out of island park?

I was actually hoping to learn some riding skills from this video. Instead it was just a dang promo video for “Ambers” school. So disappointing
For my 52nd birthday , I'm buying my first snowmobile. I'm going for a fully loaded, luxury two seat with a sled to pull.
Who makes the best luxurious fully loaded snowmobile, Polaris, Ski Doo, Yamaha, etc.?
I'm in the same boat 49 looking at the same kind of sled, I'm thinking of getting the ski-doo grand touring
Lynx
They already messed up by driving an Arctic cat
Connor Bak True this would be a better vid if it just switched those sleds out with polaris and ski doo the two true backcountry sleds
Connor Bak cats the only way bud

At least it’s not a Polaris
Lol I agree ☺
Where can we go to have Amber teach us?
West Yellowstone back country basics
lol that's right by robins roost in island park
I thought it looked familiar, right behind the condos we always stay in.

+Cole Grandall Try to tip it to the left while u stear it right :)

there is no pow
In Alaska IF you call a Snow Machine a SNOWMOBILE someone’s getting booted!!!
😂
Lols.. in that poor snow conditions you do not need to side hill the sled to turn it up the hill again. just turn and do not let the track slip. xD
No matter who's on a sled in the back contery ridding every one gets stuck. I wouldn't pay for a course like this. For me just hit it if I get stuck I get stuck trial and error.
You sound dumb
Is this literally just a video on how they teach, and not actually teaching us anything in this video? Annoying.
no this is literally an advertisement.
I'm twelve and i ride in the mountains all the time and this video makes me cringe
Yeah Ok
You're 12 and obviously kindergarten didn't teach you anything about how lying doesn't make you cool.
Not lying i have a cabin on black mountain in rangley
Logan McCarthy i
Trick Shots And More Ok, now I believe you and rangely what?
Anyone watching this that DOES NOT have more than probably 18+ inches of pow, it doesn’t work well. Coming from an Mn native
Lol couple days of practice on that little hill isn't gonna prepare you for back country riding. Make sure your with experienced riders if your inexperienced
I like you amber
I disagree I have been riding snowmobiles since the 70s and I live in Minnesota I have no desire to ride in the mountains at all I ride ditches and swamps and trails mountain riding is for yuppies and story telling
worst advertisement I have ever watched.
So what your sayin us flatlanders suck? Id love to see mountain riders try and carve groomed trails at 80mph.
Give them a trail snowmobile, too, while you're at it.
This is basicly a commercial. Don't watch.
BS
This is an advertising video...
didn't really teach anything
Cat is crap
This was useless, thanks.
