I’m so fascinated with this fight scene because it’s just too realistic like it feels like we’re spying on a real couple and not some over dramatic fight for a movie. It’s so well written and acted out probably because we’ve all been here at least once.

It's a "technique" used by women, and weak men, to act like they are doing something while arguing, because they are affraid to stand face to face to the other person, mostly when they are insecure of their sayings or want to avoid the fight. Instead, he is beeing confident.

no, both didn’t listen to other persons needs. She just wanted to feel like her opinion mattered, he just wanted 20 minutes to decompress. Neither have an inch. You missed the point of the argument. She admitted it wasn’t about the dishes, flowers etc etc.
@@Vandelberger I think *you* missed the point. Prior to the scene, she asked him to get her 12 lemons for a centerpiece and he brought 3. Then he proceeded to tell her it wasn't worth the effort to do make the centerpiece when she already planned the entire meal and was going to cook it herself. All she asked was for him to buy 3 lemons and even that he failed. This was the final straw for her.
Vince Vaughn's character was a complete jackass the entire movie and only until he lost her did he realise she was right. He was insecure, lazy and inconsiderate, basically someone you don't want a relationship with.
In real life she would be getting bent over the end of the bed about 20 mins later 😂😂

This movie is like a lighter version of THE WAR OF THE ROSES.
When I watched this movie as a teen, I kinda sided 50/50 with both of them. Now that I watch this as an adult, I pretty much side fully with her. The guy was completely immature and toxic. Also, when I first watched it, I was disappointed that they didn’t get back together at the end, and that they left that possibility open to interpretation. Now I’m glad that they went their separate ways and matured (especially him) separately.
The point wasn't the dishes and her being a clean freak. Him "wanting" to do the dishes symbolises his want to sacrifice his own time on his own accord for her comfort. Him wanting to do something that is known as a chore for both is just small subtle things to make her happier at his own expense for once. Small things.

The fact that these two were actually on the verge of break-up in real life during this movie shooting makes the scenes and the movie more realistic.

I have to say, I am with Brooke on this one. All she did was make reasonable requests and ask Gary to make more of an effort, but he refused because he was too lazy. I mean, did it occur to him that he could have just helped her first, then checked with her if she needed any more help before relaxing? That way, he's being a considerate boyfriend instead of a selfish one.
This movie is a cautionary tale on long term compatibility and it's importance over being with somebody fun to be around. Somebody fun is all well and good, but if you're not compatible it won't work long term and you'll end up miserable trying to force it to work.
As a 25yr old man watching this in the theater, I sided with him. As a 43yr old man watching this clip on UA-cam, I side with her 100%. I know it’s just a movie but Gary lost a really great girl here and he has only himself to blame
This movie supposed to be a comedy, to me its drama with a little hint of humor. I can really relate to her character.

My husband almost never cooked, even when I begged or nagged or threatened him to. If I’m not in the mood to cook, he always offers to order takeaways no matter if I end up cooking anyway. He also almost always wash the dishes, even though he almost never takes out the garbage. The point is not about the chores, it’s the thought of doing the chores for you. (Also understanding each other’s love language is crucial)
Men usually like Cooking or Barbecuing. Shopping and Cleaning not so much.

He didn’t just want 20 minutes to decompress… he started asking for 20 minutes and 2 seconds after asking for 20 minutes he suggested they do it tomorrow.
And it’s not like things were cleaned up and left in the sink just to be washed. There were food covered plates all over the dining room table… it’s kind of gross to leave all that out overnight.
