  • Having enough power on overlanding trips is a must to keep your fridge running, charging electronics, and powering devices. The last thing we want to do is wake up to a dead starter battery or find that our fridge shut off in the middle of the night spoiling our food. The BCDC1250 in vehicle DC battery charger from Redarc paired with two Anitgravity DC-100-v2 100ah Lifepo4 batteries is an amazing dual battery combination that will meet all your power needs on your extended overlanding trips.

    Super cool to see that you see the options for long-term use for the extra power to run other units off this system.

    I’m excited to see the comparison video. I’ve had two power stations but returned one and gave my parents the other one for power outages. So, now I’m in the market to power my vehicle fridge among a few other things.

    I had a Genesis dual battery setup in my JK. That was a piece of cake to install. It was nice when I had a dead battery and could link the batteries for a jump start. I didn't really have any accessory loads on my Jeep to speak of then but now I'm looking at camp lights and fridge as well as possibly a diesel heater for cooler camping and a cooling system for summer camping. I need to figure out what I'm going to do for power now in my Bronco.

    I have a suggestion. Go to a dollar store/Walmart and get a plastic bin that will fit over the inverter. Put Velcro around the inverter on the bed sidewall. Put Velcro on the lip of the plastic bin as well. Maybe use hot glue to attach it to the bin. This would give you water protection. Not waterproof. And can be easily removed when you need to access the outlets on the inverter. Just my .02. Dave

    Great set up Matt. I have a Redarc BCDC 1225 set up in my 4RNR and I think you left out some important safety items. You should have a 60a fuse on the brown out put wire before the battery. I also recommend hooking up your accessory power to a fuse panel, then run the load power from the aux battery to that with another 60a load fuse near the battery and in between the fuse block. I use one from Blue Sea that accepts midi fuses. This makes it easier to add more circuits as needed. I also installed a Redarc lithium lo voltage disconnect. Look at your Redarc install manual fig 2.7.2 it shows how to wire it up the way I did. Have a Happy New Year! Let me know if you have any questions.

    nicely done. You should be able to power a camp now. One thing you might want to be aware of is that you might need some insulation for your aux batteries. They tend to need it when they get too cold.

    200ah and a BCDC-1250D, I would say OVERKILL, but that would just be jealousy rearing it’s ugly head. I’ve had a 1225D and 100ah BB for a couple of years. Recently moved the setup from the bed of my JT, to my little A-Frame camper. With 320w of solar. I have never gotten the battery down past 90%, until this trip to Utah where the sun has barely shown. The Redarc has been invaluable recharging my battle born from the Jeep. I have 200w of solar plugged into the Redarc and 120w portable panel hooked to a Victron charge controller. I really like that those batteries have Bluetooth, so you don’t need a Victron or Ali shunt to see how much power your using and putting back in. Still waiting on your camper review! Want to see how you plan on powering that thing as well.

    if you decide to get a larger inverter then just make sure you consider the amperage you will be pulling. Check the discharge rates of the batteries and make sure you have the gauge cable needed. I don't think you could do 3kw inverter on that setup, especially with that gauge cable.

I was gonna do the redarc dual setup, pretty easy to setup tbh, but when i outweighed the costs and ease the jackery made more sense it was cheaper and more better for me.

    Great video Matt. I have a very similar set up to yours. Have you had any problems with your alternator struggling to push 50 amps to the aux batteries? My Gladiator has the 240 amp alternator and I just ordered a 300 Ah self heated Temgot lifepo4 battery. I've been trying to decide which DC-DC charger to get, and how many amps my alternator can safely push to the aux battery. Based on your review, it looks like the Redarc BCDC 1250 would be a great option.

    Question for you Matt so I'm watching your video with my hubby and your adding 2 batteries to your jeep my question is why don't you wash your jeep before you put new things on. My hubby wheels all the time and always clean it up after he gets back home. I realize your going to get it dirty again but... it's like making your bed your going to get back in it but you still make it. So my husband said I'm being a Karen but I was just wondering. Two Cpaps in our Casita trailer with the house lead acid. We use the proprietary 12v adaptor cord , our 100w suitcase panel charges it up by noon. I just got a battery box wired up with sockets and plugs , and a 100aH LifePo4 battery to
      go in it. Just picked up a Renogy DC to DC charger and getting stuff together for a similar set up in my Colorado camper shell. A 100aH lid all you need, plenty for a fridge as well. They prewired boxes are from several companies, just search on youtube .

    I think when you do the Compare and Contrast episode can I make a request? For those of us that can't do math or even comprehend the whole Amp Hour and Watts.... Can you tell us more specifics about how long total your setup would run on the Power Station vs the Antigravity Batts? I can't find all the specifics of how long a fridge or even two would run off a Jackery or EcoFlow. Also trying to figure out if i should just drop 3k for the biggest power station available for easy power distrution or buy a battery setup with redarc like you

    • @OzarkOverlandAdventures

      I can certainly do some of that. In all of my power station videos I say how long they run our Dometic fridge. I'm not going to actually test my setup on how long it would run a fridge because I would have to leave my Jeep parked for over a week. lol

    This is awesome and affordable! Question, what is the use expectancy of the antigravity batteries before needing replaced, and what is their approximate weight? probably considerably less weight than the led acid batteries I bet. Thank you, have batteries Blessed New Year

    • @OzarkOverlandAdventures
      @OzarkOverlandAdventures  2 роки тому

      Lifepo batteries have a life expectancy of 2000-3000 cycles to 80% compared to 500 cycles or less on a lead acid battery and they are a lot lighter. They can also be drained to zero without damaging the battery.
