At last count, Santa Clara Vanguard has achieved this act during seven seasons throughout its long and illustrious history. The iconic Bottle Dance, long associated with the Vanguard color guard, is known as one of DCI’s most cherished signature moments.

My mom was color guard in vanguard from 1974 to 1980 and doing the bottle dance is one of her favorite memories from their performances
I did this in high school color guard in 1979. We received a standing ovation and people were screaming. It was like being a rock star.
We desperately need a modern adaptation of this timeless classic of a tradition
When I was in school in the marching band we play fiddler on the roof an our colrguard did the bottle dance we got a standing ovation

'92 Velvet Knights is one of the greatest drum corps shows of all time. The production takes icons of every sort, from myths, from storybooks and even drum corps itself, and mixes them together. By the end, the audience response proves that we are inextricably tied to our cultural icons, and tied to our need for satire. A brilliant and buoyant show. Every single performer knew what they were performing and why. A completely authentic message delivered by master showmen with a singular sense of purpose. This is an example of the performer becoming one with his material.
The 90 version from VK was MUCH better and the actual full dance.
well the SCV alumni corps just did it tonight; everyone was on its feet for that one too. SCV is amazing.

Even though I was a Madison Scouts fan, seeing the bottle dance at the first DCI in 73 left me awed... and found me searching for this video today.

Mistakes happen in drum corps shows all the time. Even Blue Devils 2014 had a few hiccups in their show. After their beginning trumpet feature, the low brass have a quieter part coming between the platforms and then it leads into a jazz run and then the opener is over. Well in that section one of the members in the front run stepped off a count early into the jazz run.

Why are women doing this dance? I am a woman, but I know this shouldn't be. It makes about as much sense as men doing "We Love You Conrad" in Bye Bye Birdie.
It’s just because back then colorguards were almost always only women, and it would be incredibly hard to play a brass instrument while doing that dance, and drums couldn’t properly do the dance either because their drums would be in the way.
