I agree I went back to this song and I'm like wow this is fresh innovative and catchy as fuck. If all the songs on their new album had the chops of this song. Made up my mind it is the best song on gigaton and great choice for the first single
The more I listen, the more I see and appreciate the depth. The production of this song is outstanding. From the audible growls to the sharpness of the guitar (with a blues-like filler between chords) to the cleanliness of the drum sample, which is exactly what the song called for, to the bass line that drives so many pieces of the song. And these are some of the best lyrics from a PJ song that I can remember. This is the opposite of cheap pop music that so often clogs the airwaves today, but with a sound that echoes the influences that helped shape and create each member of the band.
Anyone else notice the drums move from an electronic drum sample to real drums? Totally missed it until hearing Stone mention it. Well played, Mr. Cameron.

I'm sorry but the lyrics go: "Doors open up to interpretation". I wouldn't narrow it down to climate change, especially with it being such a controversial media topic which is polarising. What's more, despite a few lines which can relate to flooding and the human race not having control over the greater "sun" / nature, I don't think that's the message the rest of the lyrics want to hint at. I personally think the song is much deeper, talking about something we often don't realise. We're often stuck in our routine bubbles without being able to progress further. Despite having plans, ideas, concepts, ambitions we often get stuck in a spot (can even hatch that onto addictions) and like clairvoyants we surf through an imagined world that is often far away from our reality. We, boys, girls, people dance away and get caught in "dicks" (sexual pleasures), "fix things" (work/ job related activites), "file things" (business, money) and we "fall away our circumstance" (run away from our current life condition which can be often hard). "The looser things get, the tighter you become" - that may refer to how we need some sort of rules, discipline because the fake freedom can lead to many negative things. Maybe it's about ourselves and how not having any borders can put us in chains we wanted to avoid. "Not one man can be greater than the sun" - sun being a metaphorical icon of a star, light, something pure, clean, perfect. Thie line and the one following it maybe shows how the perfection we often aim towards is not necessarily bad, but positive. As without the dark times we would maybe not appreciate the good ones. The last lines potentially show how we as people realise ("stand back" and see the big picture) how stupid our actions were (or the lack of them) just before death. Maybe the song is about love to another person. Maybe the song is about being stuck in a mundane every-day loop. Maybe it's about denying reality and living in a made up world in your head. Maybe it's about giving into easy solutions for quick but short term results. What if the song is about the typical modern day human, whether that be you, or me? That's my thoughts on it, hope you enjoyed. If anything is not understandable I'm truly sorry, I tried to make these sentences make sense but as a non native speaker it gives me quite the struggle.

3 songs in and love it already. Im VERY eclectic in my music taste and Pearl Jam has always been in my top 3 bands of all time. Always able to have their own signature sound yet stay with the times 😁💖
I didn’t notice until you said it. I love finding songs with identical riffs. My favorite example is Nirvana’s cover of Molly’s Lips, Jawbreaker’s Boxcar and She’s a Rebel by Green Day are all identical and also sound kinda similar to Blister In The Sun by Violent Femmes
30 years ago the industry could not consider the autonomy of artists, they decided not to make videos to sustain their ability to make decisions about their work. Today they just keep doing what they are given their fucking whore and it's incredible
Second chorus, it sounds like he says "expecting perfection leaves a lot to endure", as opposed to "ignore" in the first. Am I hearing things? Great song. I need this album.
I thought Talking Heads was rising from the ashes, but then when I found out it was Pearl Jam, I knew there was still hope in this ridiculous world we are walking through
It gets better and better with each listen, and the video is quite captivating. The perfect single guys, well done. Looking forward to seeing you in Imola :P
THIS IS SO GOOD! I know that Pearl Jam has gotten hate over how the song sounds but I think it's wonderful! In my personal opinion, I'm glad that PJ changed their sound because change is always great, of course lots of fans wish that they would have kept their same sound back from Ten you know, but I'm sure that some fans and even the guys themselves would have gotten tired of the same old sound. Experimenting with new sound is always fun for bands, and each band will most likely get hate because of it, but there will always be those fans that love and respect anything their favorite bands do. Sorry, I know this is really long lol, but I just want to thank Pearl Jam for being the bad ass band and guys that they are! I've been listening to Pearl Jam since I was around three and now I'm sixteen, and I still can't get enough of them. Keep up the good work guys!
Great vision and anti hate for new sounds speach for a young fan like you, I'm 50 and listen to them from the start. Cheers, was refreshing to read. Btw, not the same sound but around for 40 years and keeping it real and fresh are New Model Army... give it a listen, broad catalogue of songs and styles over 14 albums.
Bottom line is. When the opening chord of this piece begins playing and Ed begins howling LIVE at MSG the place will be on fire!! So they accomplished what they set out to do with this song
It's not often I fall in love with a song on the first listen through. They usually need to grow on me but this one had me with the 20sec. clip I heard when it first dropped. Great song!
By far my favourite song on the album, when it ends I start it again and again and.......okay fair enough give the rest of the album a listen. I close my eyes at times during and feel and see it could easily be a Bowie song
Belen M it is the most glorious sound I've ever heard aside from the sound of my daughter laughing! Eddie is the best vocalist ever, and he certainly does not disappoint live. I've seen them twice and can't wait to make it thrice!!
I first heard his live voice in 1995 when he did a lot more screaming. I've seen them 14 times and his voice has changed over the years but not in a negative way. THE BEST LIVE SHOW YOU'LL EVER SEE!!
And when there comes a point that you have already said and thought " there is no way to be a new rock song that I would like" THIS GREAT SONG comes out of nowhere !!!!!
I am amazed. Pearl Jam is keeping alive a rare music art form and it was dying out almost completely. I sense CBGB'S and gothic facepaint and a come back of guyliner. It's a very rare priveledged genre and you guys are carrying it now. Great job.... love the fact I woke up at 4 am with this in mind. Stay positive... positive ... stand back!
This song is great. It's got so many complexities to it. From the sound of the guitars, to Vedder's voice it's just interesting and beautifully introspective.
@@jamescotner2459 I will agree that it may seem a bit of a "stretch"to bring APC into this :) Just something about the progression of chords, transitions between verse and chorus etc , that reminds me of APC :)

Pearl Jam - Dance Of The Clairvoyants
Confusion is to commotion
What love is to our devotion
Imperceptibly big
Big as the ocean
And equally hard to control
So save your predictions
And burn your assumptions
Love is friction
Ripe for comfort
Endless equations
And tugging persuasions
Doors open up to interpretation
Expecting perfection
Leaves a lot to ignore
When the past is the present
And the future’s no more
When every tomorrow is the same as before
The looser things get, the tighter you become
The looser things get, the tighter…
Not one man could be greater than the sum
It’s not a negative thought
I’m positive
Positive, positive
Falling down, not staying down
Could’ve held me up, brother, tear me down
Drown in the river
Expecting perfection
Leaves a lot to ignore (endure)
When the past is the present
And the future’s no more
When every tomorrow is the same as before
Numbers keep falling off
The calendar’s floor
We’re stuck in our boxes
Window’s open no more
Collecting up the forget-me-nots
Not recalling what they’re for
I’m in love with clairvoyants
‘Cause they’re out of this world
I know the girls want to dance
Away their circumstance
I know the boys want to grow
Their dicks and fix and file things
I know the girls want to dance
Clairvoyants in a trance
I know the boys want to grow
Their dicks and fix and file things
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back

Away their circumstance

Stone esta tocando baixo?
Musica merda lixo PEARL JAM ja era
He sounds like David Byrne, formally of the talking heads
"This Has A Very Cool Sound! Seriously, Why Is This Not Heard On The Radio!?????"
It is on our Pittsburgh rock station!! 😊
106.7 KROQ fm in Los Ángeles are playing it 😃👍🏽🤛🏽
@Awakened Reality - Sleeping Compassion
I heard it on CIDR-FM in detroit.
It's all over SiriusXM radio on multiple channels.
East or west,
Pearl jam is the best
🎶 Expecting perfection
leaves a lot ignore
When the past is the present
and the future's no more
When every tomorrow
Is the same as before 🎶
3 songs in and love it already. Im VERY eclectic in my music taste and Pearl Jam has always been in my top 3 bands of all time. Always able to have their own signature sound yet stay with the times 😁💖
It is perfect, every single beat is just incredibly arranged, you are truly the greatest artists Love You and please come back to Brazil soon❤❤❤
I agree
Can't stop listening to this song since it's release. The final third is specially mesmerizing. Now we have a beautiful video.
I was going to tap out from it about halfway through.
Artist are "supposed"to grow and spiral out.keep going .spiral out.keep going.....
Tool
Bass riff sounds like "Cannonball" from the Breeders ('90's)
The first measure of the bass line sounds identical
Thinking the same
I heard it too, but the song still rocks
I didn’t notice until you said it. I love finding songs with identical riffs. My favorite example is Nirvana’s cover of Molly’s Lips, Jawbreaker’s Boxcar and She’s a Rebel by Green Day are all identical and also sound kinda similar to Blister In The Sun by Violent Femmes
The Breeders was the first CD I ever bought when I was like 12.
Pearl Jam this one, this one hits home...AMAZED🌸
"It's evolution, baby!!"
you serious:(
Do the evolution
I can hear some Yield era sounds in this song, it feels like it could have been on that album.
My neighbors listen to a lot of Pearl Jam......since I moved in
They said they love it! Turn it UP!
LMAO !! Same here 💓
Haha 👍
If I had a dollar for every comment like this that is rehashed for every song that comes out, I’d probably have 35 bucks :p
What about you 😅
This is IT. This is the epic comeback we've been waiting for.
Years of Pearl Jam making countless hits has beautifully come together in this song 💖
I love this song and Pearl Jam so much I'm glad they are still making music
Eddie's sounding as good as ever! Initially took a bit of getting used to, but I really like it. I can imagine it'll sound a lot more meatier live.
Yaaaaasss! 🤩
Genia xd

This is my JAM! Love the synthesizer sound plus everything else that makes it great-the lyrics, guitars etc
Addicting!! These lyrics touch my Soul!!! Gotta dance !
Vuelvan a Argentina que los extraño lpm!!!!!! 😣
Alto concierto.

1993 PJ: No more music videos.
2020 PJ: Here, 3 videos for the same single!
LOL. Love the song by the way. Can't wait for Euro tour this summer.
I must admit that though i love the song, it's quite jarring even now to see the lads in a music video. It kinda doesn't feel...right?
Hevery one has its right to evolve and change his mind
@@schreini99 It's Evolution, Baby!
30 years ago the industry could not consider the autonomy of artists, they decided not to make videos to sustain their ability to make decisions about their work. Today they just keep doing what they are given their fucking whore and it's incredible
Many differences between 90s PJ and PJ 30 years later, things change! Even the lineup on some songs... :)
Uaaaau quantas referências!
E a voz inegável do Eddie
A música só cresce em mim....
Puta som do caralho , esperamos vcs no Brasil com a nova turnê..🤘🤘
Second chorus, it sounds like he says "expecting perfection leaves a lot to endure", as opposed to "ignore" in the first. Am I hearing things? Great song. I need this album.
They seem passionate about this, and so am I.
Pegada totalmente diferente man...porem ainda e foda!!! Pearl Jam Ever!!!
Idem
Amei de primeira. E a lot.
Kkk
Já me amarrei de primeira
wow..I love the sound engineering here..and all this undercurrent energy..so much restraint and still so much rock'n roll. Awesome!
PLEASE COME TO BRAZILLLLLLLLLLL
E escrever isso agora!
UP
pelo amor de God sim
John Tanner poxa cara, deixa kk
Rafael Ferreira Neves tem que rolar um Please come to Brazil em todos os vídeos, né?! kkkkk
I thought Talking Heads was rising from the ashes, but then when I found out it was Pearl Jam, I knew there was still hope in this ridiculous world we are walking through
Is that eddi voice?
Yes vadder is singing
It gets better and better with each listen, and the video is quite captivating. The perfect single guys, well done. Looking forward to seeing you in Imola :P
The lyrics are fantastic.
Whatever you said I agree with you! PJ Rock!
É foda essa musica

So Stone is playing bass and Jeff is playing guitar and keyboards here, at least in this video anyway right?

I am 8 years old and this is my second favourite song of pearl jam.
You're all cool parent's goal.
And the first …?
you have to listen to all Pearl jam songs since 1990. I would imagine you will have many more!
You have good taste.
@@monicasandberg3266 Im sure he haven't heard Yellow Ledbetter yet :p
"When every tomorrow is the same as before." This cuts me pretty deep...damn
Here with PJ since 1992..and love the new stuff. It's great to read that the "kids" still enjoy Great music
This is much better than their Money song that came out last year
I feel the same way honestly, it was about 2 years ago when i heard about pearl jam and ever since ive been a fan
Bottom line is. When the opening chord of this piece begins playing and Ed begins howling LIVE at MSG the place will be on fire!! So they accomplished what they set out to do with this song
That’s not a chord. It’s a note
Which is what? I’ll assume they were looking for “change”, the song is garbage.

Somo el mejor país de Chile hermanooo. Vuelvan, les amo
Hearing Eddie's voice live must be incredible.
I find great new music all the time. I would stay away from the radio.
Its like Talking Heads and A Perfect Circle had a dirty little lovechild.
Lovin it!
I get talking heads
@@jamescotner2459 I will agree that it may seem a bit of a "stretch"to bring APC into this :)
Just something about the progression of chords, transitions between verse and chorus etc , that reminds me of APC :)
@@DKBoogieMan And both Eddie and Maynard both chant a lot in their songs and they're both great at rapid change of tones, emotions and pitch.
No not Perfect Circle for sure!
No, not APC imho. 80's synths sound meets the bass run from Dredg "Same Ol' Road". But, and thats the point, it's really good.
The best song of the last decade 😍
This is the best dance song ever written. Thanks pearl jam for lifting me up again
This song is a banger.
