- Elektron Octatrack real-time sampling and mangling the Korg Volca units. www.elektron.se...
I wanted to show how the Elektron Octatrack can take any audio and manipulate it in real time. Korg Volca Beats and Bass are routed into the Octatrack's stereo inputs separately. By pressing YES on the Octatrack, I can capture the incoming audio and start mangling and re-arranging the recorded loop on the Octatrack. Sending MIDI out from Octatrack into Volca Beats and sync out into the Volca Bass.
I have created 2 Parts inside the Octatrack. Part 1 has got THRU machines where I can add FX to incoming audio. Part 2 has 2 Flex recording buffers assigned to it. So, I record the incoming audio on Part 1 and start manipulating the recording on Part 2.
Personally, I found the Volca Beats very limiting and the overall sound is not for me. The Bass one however is satisfying...
But for the price of them you can't go wrong.

Love watching your robotic hands. You're so fast, knowing exactly what you're doing!
***** is boss. He just crossed the 100.000 views mark with this video. I guess there's great interest in trippy electronic music in the world :)
I love ELEKTRON :)
and what about Korg Beats and Bass?
He is boss......you and he both have totally sold me on Elekton's gear, I just need my bank account to co-operate ;) I'm a massive Volca fan as well, and your name has come up quite often (along with links to your OP-1 and Elektron videos) in the Korg Volca Facebook group. Have you ever played around with the Volcas? If so, what did you think? Would love to see a Cuckoo Volca jam :)
He he.. Thansk. I didn't know that :) Actually, I've never touched the Volcas. They sound like fun. I should try them out at some point! They're just getting more and more!
+cuckoomusic would like to see a tutorial on how to actually set this scenario up. 😉
volca bass, the new future vintage classic...
lol
I have to admit out of all my Volcas the bass is without a doubt the first one I reach for almost every time
Sounds as the TB 303... uh future from 80's.. not new
Dude, you're more busier than a one leg man in an ass kicking contest on them things.. Nice jam though...
Dataline: Built FOR Elektron, BY Elektron
I know many like to complain about it, but I actually love the sound of the Volca snare
:)
this is unreal..
I'm way late on this but damn if this isn't some classic acid!
Freaking amazing! I never really got what the Octatrack was about but this video has singlehandedly opened my eyes to the possibilities.
MrDataline rules, plain and simple!
Now thats some push the envelope funny ass perfomance :-) I WANT A VOLCA BAAAASS!!!
bem dred!
www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.Xkorg+volca&_nkw=korg+volca&_sacat=0&_from=R40
get that shit into a warehouse mate !! :)
nice... and now, my dear pure virtual VST synth users, try to do this with your DAW ;))
This video could really benefit a breadown of the set-up!
Fantastic sounds and performence
Loistavaa! I mean, awesome!
I have one, it's basically like a more powerful MPC with a less intuitive interface. I personally love it.
Finally a demo that actually shows the potential of the instruments I've been looking into. Thank you!!!!!
This is the best example I have seen of someone useing the Ocatrack in a similar way to how I wish to use it. You;re skills are amazing sir.
holy fuck I was going to buy these volca pieces but now you've just sold me on the octatrack instead crazy awesome device
awesome performance man... uuuggghhh so wish I had the money for an Octatrack thoooougghh!!!!!!!!!
It definitely does. And it is a lot cheaper than shelling out for the vintage boxes.. lol @ paying 3k for an 808 now that Volcas are (almost) here! You'd have to have money to burn to bother with any of those old boxes after this... seriously
ok....fuck the xox with 2 vco....lol...i'm going the korg now....!!!!!!
2 questions : r u sequencing the korg from octal or is it just going audio thru?
and....i hear the korg has 2 vcos...but does it have built in delay as well?
thanks for ur time!
10:00 god damnnnnn
nismoman .
Haha you got my daughter dancing... She's almost a year and a half old :) nice
This is amazing! Do you have any music that I could listen/buy?
And a side question, how were you changing the Beats and Bass patterns? Did you control that through the Octa? I was wondering how you did that!
I have the korg sequencer (bottom right) retails at $200 NZD - Its a funky little tool don't get me wrong, but you are very restricted with what you can do, I would not recommend buying it.
Mr Loop FX i just bought both of em , the volca bass hass power init you just need to jam it and discover it , i also have FL Studio wich alows me to virtually add effects to the bass sounds wich can make these verry .. verry unique !
+Mr Loop FX also, it has true analog signal, i believe. and that is why it is more expensive
Came for the Korg Volca. Stayed for the dance party! SICK MAN!
I can't even listen music on fucking yt, after 35 sec first commercial.
🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼
Great stuff tho by the way
Maybe you will laugh but I FEEL that many of these tricks you can do with carefull tweaking and looping of KP3. Elektrons have high class echo/reverb thing but you can approach this way of doing things a little bit cheaper.
Someone want to try? :)
It's one of the best live session on youtube! Great work mate!!!!!
I didn't know it could do that. I've been kind of admiring the entire elektron line of products for a while. this one got me.
bro, what the fuck this dope sound , aHHHUUUN
What size are the power supply inputs on the Volcas? Are they the same size as those industry standard Boss guitar pedal stomp boxes? Thanks!
Sir Dataline, you must be a fuckin ROBOT. RESPECT
octatrack i have!! now :)
Nice! 2:40 onwards sounds like The Hacker. Can't think of a better compliment than that :)
That's a chunky tech workout with a bit of experimentation to keep it interesting
Your channel is herby Sub’d!!! Noiice work.
buttery biscuit bass
16.49!? jesus i'm just going to give you a thumbs up and come back later. fucken nice one bruvva.
So the Octa is driving the bass and drums, right? Or am I being thick? Or is it just FX'ing them?
Man this is still fire fckn amazing those boxes are, you need to start uploading man
Well, I guess I have to buy an Octatrack now. Lol
Excellent!
(I do hate that awful Korg snare though!)
sounded too soft to do real hip hop...maybe for lo fi fuzzy trance/techno?
Can you tell what you know about that elektron octatrack? never heard of it
I always heard the rumor that the Volca Beats snare was bad, but I didn’t realize it was this bad!
I have.....took some work and not as easy on the fly, but it can be done
yeah i was thinking about doing this with a looper. but damn, octatrack..
Fast fingers, but the beat is the same with constant effect variation.
Great video! What would u say about the sonic possiblilities after playing with the Keys ? I know we cannot expect miracles, but still, is it worth getting it, for some nice chords and creating some basslines in a fun way (techno music oriented) ?
thank you!
i've got the keys and the bass and tho i found the keys a bit harder to get to grips with at first, i would fully recommend it! lovely sound and good functionality, tho would recommend use with a midi keyboard ! :) lovely analog sound tho
yes possible of course, but why? both have midi
14:16 that drop seriously rocks
05:40 !!! Nice work man!
crazy wtf mate you killed that!!!
3:22 transition 101 💪
love the part starting at 10:10!
So in PART2 is where all of the audio buffers are getting re seqeunced is where the crazy glitch is happening? because when it's all in the buffer, you can mangle audio even futher than just delay, you can reverse the sample, or pick different parts of the sample to trig lock, and it's all be pre setup, so once you record into the audio buffer, whaever scene you assign reverse playback it's doing that automatically to the newest audio recorded into buffer?
i slowly getting your genius, bow before the master, people!
it's called goooooooooooooooooooogle m8
The name suggests a very specific type of porn
Nicely done OT Wizard! Now could you just halve the tempo and make all your tweaks really slowly and obviously for all the noobs? ; )
Very well done. I'm very motivated to buy an Elektron Analog Four in a few weeks. Thanks.
this sucks ;) hehehe awesome really
I'm guessing you didn't get those Volcas from Sweetwater
fucking awesome.
don't know what else there is to say.
Dude, this is an amazing performance! I've seen tons of your videos, this is the first one I've seen you rocking the Volcas as well....killer! I've been working a ton with the Volcas, hoping to add some Elektron gear in the future, as soon as the budget allows :)
How did you configure the MIDI tracks to work with the Korg Volca Beats to let you sequence the audio patterns from the Octatrack?
Terrific! Sounds like Kraftwerk and Euro progressive trance have an affair. I want some more in this taste.
cant go wrong with korg, ALL my real time audio is from a korg triton le, and also my drum kits played through just an sr202, but with a mixture of kiks, snares and so forth from the triton. The rest is a mixture of vst inst downloaded for cubase. Please check out my latest track theindustryfinalmix. This is really GOOD. nice 1
Can you explain what you mean by pre sliced? do you mean you slice your grid "over silence" before you record any incoming audio and the save this, which then lets you resample from the inputs and have THAT audio automatically cut into 16 slices ready to re-arrange? if so that is the best new trick I have learnt !!!
Fantstic. Can't wait to try out those little boxes.
Not commercial but good
Is there a metronome bleep sample somewhere and did he just made a metronome bleep sound cool?? Sir, you are the root of my GAS. Keeping posting dude!
hmm but when you take a bass and a lead volca.. it is getting pretty close, specially when you have an octatrack to apply fx in realtime
very nice MR DATALINE
still relevant
I think they are in japan. and a few leaks
Instant answer to my question if the small pattern amount on the Volca's would be a problem. Paired with the Octatrack one can jam until eternity! Great stuff as always.
Bye, bye A4?
7:50 - 10:00 then it fucks up - those few minutes are some ROUGH Aphex tunage!!!!!!! Fucking bouncing techno after that lol!!!!
Man! I could add some seriously "MANGLED" samples to this and produce this line with vocals and track it nationally with interscope records bro. ...good upbeat and definately down with the intro bassline...solid!
motherfuckin yess
Is the reverb on the Octatrack identical to the Analog4 ?
No its not.. A4 reverb better i find!!
I will certainly try using the Volca with KP3 ( and other things ) when I get them. ; - )
Hi there :) just starting and in need of contructive coments :)
Made with Volca Keys, Bass and Beats recorded live !
Thursday Techno
is the kick drum sound purely a sample of volca beats or has it been processed by the elektron? anyway nice kick sound :)
it's not possible lol
I can do it with a combination of digital and analog things though
this is the set up i'm trying to get.
Outstanding
so is the octatrack doing the sequensimg and then the sound is fed in the otatrack again for effects??
Great performance, and it looks really fun too! Been looking at the Octatrack, but I have a backlog of other gadgets to master first... Keep up the great work, you got yourself a new subscriber! :)
Jack dangers (meat beat manifesto) has cool theories on the progressive use of the octatrack live....you are on schedule. Just get better at your Chang-ups and add vocals and samples...you got the right gear and the science....just start rocking it live!
It's like someone trying to be Elvis in 1980....oh yeah the stray cat strut.
Whow,
Cool!
Running preset patterns ftw
How do you sync Volca with Elektron?
midi out to midi in..
I'd been wondering about combining Volcas and Elektrons. Fat and choppy all at once!
somebody have a new subscriber.
hey mr dataline !
great video.
could you please exactly tell us the assignment of all your tracks on PART 1 and 2 ?
Is it right that you have a recording buffer 5 on PART 1 ( on witch track is it ? ) and you play this recording bufferr 5 on PART 2 only ?
cheers !
Do you have an explainer somewhere that you talk about the delay between switching PARTs when you are using them to switch machines types? You tell me that it's a bug you use as a feature, do you go more into detail anywhere about that at all? Much appreciated master CENK!
instead of Volca, i put a Roland TR8s and MC707 into my Octatrack, it's just a much more expensive version of what you're doing here...
when you go back to part one and you're taking out the trigs that you put down in part2 what are the trigs doing, until you take them out, since they don't have a sample attached to them anymore?
